Diplo Explains Recent Catalog Sale & What He Wants To Do With The Money

Diplo says that there’s a growing trend for artists to sell their music catalogs because it’s more convenient to have the money upfront. That’s the reasoning he gave to explain his own decision to sell his Mad Decent Publishing catalog to Olivier Chastan‘s music rights and brand management company Iconoclast. When asked about the deal at LAX, Diplo revealed to TMZ what he intends to do with the money.

“It’s a great investment because when you stream music it just constantly goes. So a record like ‘Lean On,’ one of my songs with Major Lazer, always has 400,000 streams. It’s always gonna generate capital so it’s a great investment.” As for why keeping the catalog wouldn’t be a great investment for him, Diplo explained: “I don’t want to wait 20 years for it to reach the max. I just want money now so I can go do stuff with it.” As for what he wants to do with the money, he added that he wants to make a movie, invest in property, and more.

Olivier Chastan explained Iconoclast’s decision to purchase Diplo’s catalog in a statement provided to Billboard. He described the body of work as “one of the most exciting and original catalogs where Brazilian Baile Funk and Angolan Kuduro mix with EDM and pop.”

“I first became aware of Mad Decent when Kevin Kusatsu and Diplo were working on the first Major Lazer album,” Chastan continued. “The sound was completely different, the songwriting utterly original and fresh-sounding, and the production uniquely creative. Our acquisition of the Mad Decent Publishing catalog illustrates our commitment to preserving and growing culturally significant art of any era including with artists that are shaping contemporary music.”

Diplo is far from the first artist to sell their catalog in recent years. Bruce Springsteen did so in 2021, bringing in $500 million in exchange. Justin Bieber also recently sold his catalog for $200 million while Dr. Dre sold a portion of his for just over $200 million.

Deion Sanders Ripped By Twitter For Viral Comments On Recruiting

Deion Sanders is one of the most famous coaches in college football right now. Overall, he is known for winning and turning programs into contenders again. That is exactly what he did at Jackson State. However, he eventually left the HBCU so that he could get a bigger opportunity with Colorado. Now, he is trying to turn that team into a contender again after some poor seasons. Although it is going to be a tough task, there are many who believe that Sanders is the one who can turn that program around.

Recently, the NFL legend was on the Rich Eisen Show where he got to talk about how he recruits his players. While these comments were made weeks ago, they are now starting to viral on social media. In particular, people are taking issue with his recruitment philosophy as it pertains to quarterbacks and defensive positions. “Well, we have different attributes. Smart, tough, fast, disciplined with character. Now, quarterbacks are different,” Sanders said. “We want mother, father. Dual parent. We want that kid to be 3.5 [GPA] and up. Because he has to be smart. Not bad decisions off the field, at all. Because he has to be a leader of men.”

Subsequently, Sanders spoke about what he looks for in his defensive linemen. These are the comments that truly came across as problematic for a lot of people. As you will see, his criteria are completely different, and a bit patronizing. “Defensive linemen is totally opposite,” Sanders explains. “Single mama, trying to get it, he’s on free lunch. I’m talking about just trying to make it. He’s trying to rescue mama. Like mama barely made the flight. And I want him to just go get it.“

In the Tweets down below, you can see just how upset people were with Sanders and his remarks. “A bunch of white folks kee-keeing and it didn’t give him a bit of pause. Yuck.” one user wrote. Another person pointed out the hypocrisy, saying “His own fuckin son not even from a ‘dual household,’” Overall, these comments were not a good look for Sanders. Carl Crawford Apologizes To Megan Thee Stallion

Megan Thee Stallion’s ongoing legal war with Carl Crawford continues after she called out her label 1501 Certified Ent. The Houston rapper claimed that she signed a bad contract early in her career without the opportunity to negotiate. Once she inked a deal with Roc Nation for management, things went further left. Meg claimed that the label blocked her from releasing new music to the dismay of her fans but ultimately, a judge granted her a temporary restraining order that allowed her to drop her album.

Unfortunately, the feud between Meg and Crawford didn’t simply exist in the courtroom but also, bled into the world of social media. While Meg earned plenty of accolades during this period, Crawford’s reputation took a massive hit. During a recent interview with TMZ, he explained that he’s trying to rebuild the label from the ground up after bringing on Kai “Verse” Tyler as the new president of 1501 Certified Ent. Crawford explained that he lacked experience in the music industry, which he partially blamed for his spat with Meg. However, with Tyler’s help, he feels they can reclaim their position in the music industry.

Even though Megan and Crawford are still duking it out in court, the 1501 Certified Ent. founder acknowledged that he made some mistakes in their relationship. Admitting they haven’t talked since 2019, he said that he “never had problems with Megan Thee Stallion. “It’s just the social media stuff, it turned really, really sour. You take this social media part out of it, we don’t have a problem,” he said. “You not gon’ hear me mention Megan Thee Stallion’s name in the media unless I’m doing something like this.”

However, he also addressed the “petty” photo where he posed with Tory Lanez after she accused the Canadian rapper of shooting her. Crawford admitted that he was trying to troll Meg but he stated that he doesn’t have any allegiance to Lanez in this situation. “I don’t stand with nobody in that situation,” he said. “I think I just got wrapped up in the whole scheme of things that was going on. LeBron James & Kyrie Irving Reunite: Watch

LeBron James is in his 20th season of NBA basketball. Overall, he is still playing at an incredibly high level. However, this has not put the Lakers into a playoff position, at least not yet. The team is currently battling for a play-in spot, and they even have a chance at getting the sixth seed. Although, it is not going to be easy. They have to play some pretty good teams to get there, and last night, they had to take on the latest dynamic duo in the league. Of course, we are talking about Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Luka and Kyrie have had some struggles together. That said, they are incredibly talented and can definitely take down a team like the Lakers. Instead, on Sunday, the Lakers came out victorious. At one point in the first half, the Lakers were down by 27 points. Despite this, they were able to make an impressive comeback that featured some heroics from LeBron and Anthony Davis down the stretch. It was a horrible loss for the Mavs, but a massive win for the Lakers.

Subsequently, after the game, LeBron was able to greet players from the Mavs. In the clip above, you can see that this included Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Overall, Luka and Kyrie didn’t seem to be too upset about the loss. They simply dapped up LeBron with huge smiles on their faces. In fact, Irving looked incredibly happy to see James as they executed what seemed to be a pretty involved handshake. It is just another example of how much these two love each other.

Unfortunately, for the Mavericks, this could very well spark some rumors about what Kyrie will do in the offseason. He is going to become a free agent which means he is free to do as he pleases. Damian Lillard Drops 71 Points During Epic Performance

Damian Lillard is one of the best point guards in the league, however, he isn’t talked about enough. Overall, it is easy to see why this is the case. He plays for the Portland Trail Blazers who are largely irrelevant right now. They do not have the pieces to be playoff contenders, and ultimately, Lillard has been loyal to them, to a fault. He wants to win a championship in Portland, but at this point, it remains to be seen if that is possible. Although most fans just want him to go elsewhere, namely the Lakers, it doesn’t seem like a real possibility right now.

That said, Lillard is known for exploding on offense. There have been multiple occasions in which he has popped off for a grand total of 60 points. However, he has never gone for 70. On Sunday, that changed in front of our very eyes as Lillard started out his game against the Rockets with 41 points in the first half alone. Subsequently, he went off for 30 more points in the second half. If you are counting properly at home, you will know that he dropped a grand total of 71 points, which is wild.

This is the second 71-point game of the NBA season. Back in early January, Donovan Mitchell went for 71. It was an incredible match for Mitchell, who became the 7th player to score over 70 in a game. Consequently, Lillard is the eighth. Thankfully for the Blazers, they were able to secure the win thanks to Lillard’s performance. Had the team lost, it would have been embarrassing for the bench and all of the other starters. Although, the Blazers were playing the Houston Rockets which definitely helps.

For the Blazers, they are in a fight with teams like the Lakers for that final play-in spot. Dwyane Wade Dedicates NAACP Award To Daughter Zaya: ‘All I’ve Wanted To Do Was Get It Right’

Over the weekend Dwyane Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union received the prestigious Presidents Award from the NAACP at the 54th annual Image Awards.

Both gave moving speeches advocating for the Black LGBTQIA community

“I am intentional when I use my platform. I recognize what I have been given and it is my job to uplift the voices of others and share my access and resources,” Wade said.

Wade opened the speech by dedicating the award to his 15-year-old daughter, Zaya, who is transgender.

“Zaya, as your father, all I’ve wanted to do is get it right. I’ve sat back and watched how gracefully you’ve taken on the public scrutiny and, even though it’s not easy, I’ve watched you walk out of that house every morning as yourself,” Wade said.

The retired NBA star thanked his daughter for showing him “that there is more than just one way to communicate effectively.”
“You’ve taught me that communication with my mouth isn’t enough. I have to also communicate with my two ears and my two eyes,” Wade said.

Gabrielle joined by saying, “A new era that demands our collective answer to one simple question: Will we fight for some or will we fight for all of our people?” Even as we demand equality at the top of our lungs, we consistently fail to extend our advocacy to protect some of our most vulnerable among us.”

To an emotional crowd, Wade ended his speech saying that he was “proud to be chosen” as Zaya’s father.

“Zaya, you’ve made me a better human just simply by being who you were born to be, a baby girl, Zaya Wade,” he said. “So baby thank you for showing the world what courage looks like.”

Memphis stand out Moneybagg Yo decided to add an honorary member to his Bread Gang collective and recognize fellow Memphis native GloRilla by giving her a Bread Gang chain during her sold out to make her an official honoree of the Memphis-based clique.

Moneybagg lost a member of the Bread Gang last year with the shooting death of Big Nuskie, who was killed in Memphis last summer. GloRilla and Moneybagg Yo were seen on stage, with M.Y. saluting the “Tomorrow” rapper before gifting her with the iced out chain and medallion. See above.

Method Man has had one of the best careers in Hip-Hop history. The notches on the legend’s belt continued over the weekend after he won the NAACP Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work in Power Book II: Ghost.

The series creator, 50 Cent, hit Instagram to celebrate the rapper and actor, dubbing him No. 1 in Wu-Tang.

“@methodmanofficial is no joke, he was always #1 in Wu Tang to me but he has transitioned into something that has to be celebrated,” 50 Cent wrote on Instagram. “This train won’t stop, shout out to @naacp for recognizing and the ZARS network.”

Are you ready for the return of Tariq? 50 Cent’s Power Book II: Ghost is set for a March return. On Thursday (Feb. 16), STARZ released a new trailer, showing the fallout of the murder of basketball star Zeke, Tariq, and Brayden taking their work to Wall Street, and the Tejada’s seemingly ready to turn on Monet.

Most notable in the trailer is Tariq turning his savage up and looking to top his father’s legacy.

“I’m not like my dad; I’m smarter than him,” Tariq says in the trailer.

During the trip, the two spot a baddie needing to be rescued from the ocean. The two toss out a flotation device and pull her on board, showing her the finer things in life until she turns on them and a group of baddie pirates then invade the boat.

Drake and 21 Savage are then held hostage as the boat is destroyed, and the woman robs the two and causes havoc before executing the rap legends. You can see all of the havoc in the video below.

Chance The Rapper Met Martin Short After The Actor (Who Didn’t Know Who Chance Was) Did A Kind Thing For His Daughter

Only Murders In The Building star Martin Short seems like a real nice guy, and that was certainly Chance The Rapper’s takeaway after his recent run-in with the actor, who did a nice thing for his daughter on a flight.

In a tweet shared yesterday (February 26), Chance explained, “So I just got on this plane with my daughter, and found out our seats weren’t next to each other. I really ain’t wanna inconvenience anyone by asking them to swap seats, but before I could say anything this kind older gentleman offered his seat to Kensli so we could sit together. We both said thank you and as he stands up, I realize it’s THE Martin Short!! So cool and Kensli freaked out cause she’s obsessed with The Santa Clause 3. What an awesome person! SHOUTOUT TO JACK FROST.”

A Twitter user asked Chance if Short knew who he was and he responded, “Definitely not, which made it way cooler. He just a nice dude ig.” Somebody else joked (or perhaps not), “My daughter could have sat by herself.
