Nipsey Hussle’s Suspected Killer Has A New Trial Date

Eric Holder, the man accused of shooting and killing Nipsey Hussle in March of 2019, will finally go on trial in June, according to HipHopDX via the Los Angeles Criminal Court website. Before that, a pretrial readiness hearing has been set for May 19 in which the defense and prosecution will determine whether or not to resolve the case without going to trial. Holder has pled not guilty to one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of felony possession of a firearm.

The trial has been delayed multiple times, with the first occurring in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, in May 2021, Holder reportedly refused to leave his cell, and then, two months later, both the assigned judge and Holder’s original defense needed to be replaced (the judge due to retirement, the attorney due to death threats against his family). The most recent delay was earlier this year, after the trial was scheduled to begin in January.

Holder was arrested just two days after the shooting in the Los Angeles County suburb Bellflower. Police said that the shooting was motivated by a personal disagreement in front of Nipsey’s Marathon store on Crenshaw and Slauson. A security video allegedly shows the agitated Holder walking up and firing on Nipsey, hitting him and two bystanders multiple times. Nipsey was pronounced dead at the hospital just hours later, leaving the hip-hop world to mourn his loss just as he was finally receiving the mainstream success he’d worked for a decade to get.

The new trial date is June 2, 2022.

Drake Gets Petty After Troll Makes Ghostwriting Joke Involving Adonis

It’s been years since Drake was exposed for using a ghostwriter. While he’s proven that he’s more than capable of penning his own bars, the Canadian rapper continues to face criticism over his pen. Internet trolls frequently downplay his talents because of his use of external songwriters but apparently, one individual took it a little too far.

After sharing his support for Lavar Ball and Tee Morant’s fatherly pride, Drizzy caught a stray from an Instagram user who replied, “Ya son prolly play with ghostwriters.” Drake clearly isn’t playing about his son, and quickly fired back at the commenter. “I just followed your girl cause she’s rob miserable and needs some excitement in her life,” Drake commented.

Drake wasn’t lying, either. Fans quickly noticed that he found the troll’s wife and followed her on the ‘Gram. The woman, who goes by @tonibowden.x on Instagram, quickly shared a screenshot of Drake’s follow on IG. Later on, the troll revealed that Drake actually slid into her DMs. “I’m here for u ma,” Drake wrote.

While the troll has laughed off the entire situation, Drake’s previously faced accusations of being a homewrecker. Last year, a man claimed that Drake slept with his then-fiancée during the Certified Lover Boy sessions, causing the couple to break up. Drake never responded to the allegations but his recent clap back indicates that it’s probably true.

Dave Chappelle Attacker Arrested For Assault With A Deadly Weapon

The man who attacked Dave Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater while he was performing for Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival has been arrested. 23-year-old Isaiah Lee is being charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon for the incident.

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed to Page Six that Lee is being held on $30,000 bail. While attacking Chappelle, he was allegedly carrying a replica handgun that had an ejectable blade inside.

Photos taken from Lee’s arrest show him badly injured after being tackled by security.

Cell phone footage from the incident quickly began circulating online afterward, which showed Lee charging the stage and attempting to tackle Chappelle. It’s unclear what provoked Lee into targeting the comedian.

After returning to the stage, Chappelle joked that “Whenever you’re in trouble, Jamie Foxx will show up in a sheriff’s hat,” adding “I’ve been doing this for 35 years. I just stomped a n***a backstage. I’ve always wanted to do that.”

Chris Rock, who was also performing at the festival, joked “Was that Will Smith?”

The joke was a reference to Smith infamously slapping Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars ceremony back in March. While not getting too into the incident, Rock has cracked several jokes about the slap during recent stand-up sets for his ongoing “Ego Death” tour.

Check out a clip from the incident below, and photos from the attacker’s arrest here.

Eminem is among the inductees for the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it was announced today. The Detroit rapper joins the diverse class of 2022 including Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Duran Duran, Pat Benatar, Eurythmics, and Carly Simon.

According to Rolling Stone, Eminem is the only hip-hop artist to be inducted as a Performer this year and the only artist that began releasing music in the ’90s.

Additionally, he is the only act to be inducted in his first year of eligibility, an achievement previously matched by Tupac Shakur, Public Enemy, Nirvana, and Guns N’ Roses.

“This diverse group of inductees each had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture and helped change the course of rock & roll,” John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, said in a statement. “Their music moved generations and influenced so many artists that followed.”

Eminem is the latest rapper to be inducted into the Rock Hall following hip-hop icons JAY-Z and LL Cool J last year.

Other nominated acts that didn’t make this year’s induction include A Tribe Called Quest, Beck, Kate Bush, Fela Kuti, New York Dolls, and MC5.

The induction ceremony will take place on Nov. 5 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and air at a later date on HBO Max.
