Today In Hip Hop History: K-Solo Released His Debut Album ‘Tell The World My Name’ 34 Years Ago

Albumism KSolo TellTheWorldMyName MainImage

On this date in 1990, original Hit Squad member K-Solo dropped his debut album, Tell The World My Name, on Atlantic Records.

Produced primarily by PMD(Parrish Smith) of EPMD, Tell The World My Name was the launch of Solo’s hardcore delivery, which was his calling card on his introduction into the music biz on EPMD’s “Knick Knack Paddy Wack” off their Unfinished Business album. Solo’s signature spell-out style along with his uncanny storytelling abilities made his first album one of the tope drops of 1990.

Tracks that led the album’s momentum includes the alphabetic “Spellbound”, his prison to the booth saga on “Fugitive” and the timeless “Your Moms In My Business”, which was a catchphrase in teenage love situations of that era.

Salute to K-Solo, EPMD, DJ Scratch and even Al B.Sure for their contributions to this integral piece of Hip Hop history!

Saweetie Revealed Which LA Strip Club She Secretly Worked At And How She Kept Her Family From Finding Out

Before she was a hit-making rapper, Saweetie was a USC student paying her way with a secret job. While the Bay Area rapper has previously talked about working at a strip club to pay the bills, she previously played coy with the details. However, during a new interview with LA radio station Real 92.3, she finally revealed which local club she worked at before her rap career took off, and how she kept it a secret from her family.

While telling The Cruz Show about her experiences as a strip club waitress, Saweetie spilled the beans when the hosts wondered if she could name the club where she worked. She revealed that it was Dames ‘N’ Games in downtown LA, which she says she chose because she not only made way more than she did at another waitressing job (Buffalo Wild Wings), but also because “it’s not popular in the Black community, and I didn’t want nobody from my family or my friends of my family seeing me work a strip club.”

To that end, she even employed an alias while working there (which isn’t that unusual for the biz), “Carmen” — a name she chose because it “felt like a powerful, sexy name.” Now, though, Saweetie is good enough for the rapper, who has a new single, “Nani,” out, and is working toward the release of her debut album.

Charlamagne Tha God On Diddy’s Allegations: “The Issue Is Patriarchy”

Charlamagne Tha God discussed the series of allegations Diddy is facing as well as the new video of him abusing Cassie in 2016 during an appearance on The View on Wednesday. Promoting his new book, Get Honest or Die Lying, Charlamagne discussed the role the patriarchy plays in enabling domestic violence to take place.

“The issue is domestic violence. The issue is exactly what I said about men not going to do the proper work on themselves and they’re dealing with a lot of pain and a lot of hurt and a lot of unhealed trauma,” he said. “And they’re projecting that pain and that hurt onto other people. The issue is patriarchy, right. As long as you have a system where men feel superior to women and they’re dealing with that pain and they’re dealing with that hurt, we’re going to continue to project that onto our women.”

Charlamagne continued: “But right now as I’m talking, there’s a woman out there getting beat up by a man and she’s not going to get [any] news coverage. Nobody’s going to talk about her.” CNN was the first to publish the footage of Diddy attacking Cassie. The Bad Boy mogul apologized for the incident in the following days with a video on social media. He explained that he began going to therapy afterward and is working on bettering himself. “I went and I sought out professional help, I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. Fans In Disbelief Due To Kendrick’s “GKMC” Making It On The Apple Music Best 100 Albums Over “TPAB,” Ebro Attempts To Explain Why

A lot of die-hard music fans, especially hip-hop heads, have been debating and venting their frustrations over the last couple of days. The reason for that is because of a new list that Apple Music completed earlier today. Experts and musicians collaborated to come up with the Best 100 Albums of all time were based on some rigorous criteria. However, people are taking this list as a slight on many artists behalf. One of those includes Kendrick Lamar, who wound up getting one placement on the Apple Music rankings. His 2012 record good kid M.A.A.D. city (Deluxe) went on to land in the seventh spot.

While you certainly cannot argue the impact and greatness of this record, fans felt that another album of his was severely snubbed. His 2015 To Pimp A Butterfly, did not only not score a higher ranking, but it did also not even make the final cut. That may be the bigger argument here, as fans online are making the claim that both of the albums should have been on the list. It is a fair point to make, especially since several artists got the luxury of receiving multiple spots like Beyonce, for example.

Fans Are Not Buying Ebro’s Explanation For Kendrick’s GKMC Over TPAB

Ebro, one of the main contributors to these rankings, has already had to explain himself. Not too long ago, he hopped on X to break down the criteria they used to make each selection. Now, the famed figure in hip-hop is attempting to calm the angry mob over the Kendrick picks. In a recent sit down to talk about the final 10 albums, Ebro led the charge as to what the reasoning was for GKMC over TPAB. To sum things up, he said that because of the album’s divisiveness at the time of release, as well as its dense and detailed listening experience, they felt it was not as universally adored as much. You can check out the clip in full with the link above.

What are your thoughts on the explanation as to why To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar did not make the Apple Music Best 100 Albums? Was Ebro’s perspective acceptable, or do you think both should have made the list? What do you think of the list overall? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Busta Rhymes Tells Diddy That Coi Leray Is Off-Limits In Resurfaced Clip

As of late, there’s been a lot of online talk surrounding Diddy and all of his past relationships, largely due to some disturbing footage that surfaced online last week. In the footage, the Bad Boy Records founder seemingly assaults his then-girlfriend, Cassie. He’s since apologized, though it did little to quell the explosive backlash.

The footage prompted fans to dig into Diddy’s history with Cassie, Kim Porter, and more. Now, social media sleuths have dug up an old clip of an interaction he once had with Coi Leray. In the clip, he can be seen chatting with the “No More Parties” performer at a restaurant. Looking on from the sidelines was Busta Rhymes, who previously collaborated with Coi on the song “Luxury Life.”

Busta Rhymes Checks Diddy

After listening in on their conversation for a moment, Busta Rhymes gave Diddy a playful nudge, seemingly telling him to watch what he says and does. Social media users note that Busta Rhymes looked a bit concerned, though it’s unclear whether or not he was serious or simply joking around. Coi herself has yet to address Diddy’s latest scandal or the resurfaced video of Busta Rhymes stepping in during her conversation with the mogul. Her father Benzino, on the other hand, has been a vocal supporter of Diddy amid his legal issues.

Earlier this week, The Danza Project posted an interview with The Source icon, who called out the Black community for turning their backs on Diddy amid his allegations. It’s unclear whether or not he made these statements prior to seeing the footage of Diddy seemingly assaulting Cassie. What do you think of the resurfaced clip of Busta Rhymes telling Diddy to back off of Coi Leray? Do you think he did the right thing? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.
