Nicki Minaj And Husband Sued For Alleged Backstage Assault, X-Rays Included In Evidence

The trouble never seems to stop coming for Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty. The pair were both sued for an alleged assault that happened backstage at a show in 2019. The show took place in Germany and during a point in the show a fan managed to break through the security barrier. Thankfully he was stopped before he could get to Minaj, but the incident still clearly bothered her. The man who is suing her claims that he interrupted her backstage after the show while she was berating a female security guard about the breach.

The man filing the suit claims that he was later brought to a private room where Nicki was staying backstage. After arriving his suit claims Minaj hit him with his own barrage of insults. But the crucial moment in the suit came when he was reportedly hit in the face by Petty. Because the alleged attack surprised him he can’t know for sure whether it was with a fist or a weapon. The man sought a default judgement after Minaj failed to respond to his original lawsuit, but it was struck down by the judge. Now he’s being allowed to seek a judgement again and this time it submitting a series of notes from a doctor and an x-ray of his jaw as evidence.

Kanye West Sued By Donna Summer’s Estate Over “I Feel Love” Sample On “Good (Don’t Die)”

It’s been a whirlwind of a ride for Kanye West, who finally unveiled his joint project with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures 1, earlier this month. Already, the album proved to be monumental for Ye and Ty. However, Ye now faces a new lawsuit as a result of the project. The estate of Donna Summer has filed a lawsuit against Kanye over her single, “I Feel Love,” which he sampled on Vultures 1 single, “GOOD (DON’T DIE)” without proper authorization. According to the estate, he used a soundalike to interpolate one of her songs after initially being denied his request to sample “I Feel Love.”

You’ve likely heard the song already, even though it was later removed from the album days after its release. became one of the highlights of the project, though the familiarity of “I Feel Love” is undoubtedly part of the appeal. However, Donna Summer’s team made it abundantly clear in their suit that they already denied Ye permission to use the song (apparently, he reached to clear the sample on Jan. 31) yet he attempted to find a loophole around it. Still, Summer’s estate explains that the interpolation won’t protect Ye from copyright infringement.

Donna Summer’s Estate Won’t Stand For Kanye’s Antics

It really isn’t difficult to understand why the estate of the late singer, who still controls the copyright of the song, didn’t want to off on the sample. TMZ reports that this is presumably due to the string of controversy that surrounds Kanye, from his comments on George Floyd to his pro-Hitler tirades. At the end of the day, they decided that Ye’s use of her song wouldn’t be beneficial and passed up on Ye’s offer.

As for why the song is currently unavailable to stream on DSPs in certain markets, Summer’s estate said they reached out to streaming platforms to remove the song. Though streaming platforms like Apple and Spotify removed the song, it eventually returned to the tracklist. However, the song already gained millions of streams and for those who purchased the album on Apple Music, it’s apparently still available to listen to. The estate of Donna Summer is seeking major damages, along with an injunction to prevent the song from being distributed.

Jam Master Jay Trial: 2 Men Found Guilty Of Murder

A jury has found two men guilty of murder in the trial for the killing of Jam Master Jay. Both Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington stood trial in the attack on the hip-hop icon who was killed at a recording studio in 2002. The two face at least 20 years behind bars and a maximum of life in prison.

Prosecutors claim Jay acquired 22 pounds of cocaine that he intended to have Washington and Jordan, among others, distribute. Eventually, Jay informed Washington that he planned to cut him out of the deal and the defendant began hatching a scheme to kill him in response. Washington and Jordan held Jay at gunpoint at the recording studio on October 30, 2002, and instructed him to lie on the floor. Jordan then executed him with two fatal gunshots at close range.

The state called a witness who was at the recording studio that night and they corroborated the story. They claimed they were “confused and scared” to reveal Washington and Jordan’s identities in the years prior to the trial. “It’s about greed, it’s about money, it’s about jealousy,” Assistant US Attorney Artie McConnell said in the prosecution’s closing arguments. “And it’s about the actions of two men, Karl Jordan, Jr., and Ronald Washington, that the evidence proves are killers.”

Washington and Jordan’s defense centered around the case of Jay Bryant. They claimed he was the true killer. Bryant is set to go on trial on his own in 2026. When the guilty verdict was read, the courtroom erupted into chaos according to CNN. “Y’all just killed some innocent people. Get me outta here,” Washington shouted. Understanding Bank Account Freezes: When Mental Health Meets Financial Security

The 2020s Are the Years of Exciting Tech Advancements in Mental Health Treatment

In financial security and regulatory compliance, banks wield the authority to take specific measures to protect their institutions and clients. One such measure is freezing a bank account when there are suspicions that the account holder may be of unsound mind. While this action may seem invasive or arbitrary to some, it serves a vital purpose in safeguarding both the financial assets and the well-being of the account holder. Understanding the hows and whys behind this practice is essential for maintaining trust and transparency in the banking system.

Firstly, it’s crucial to grasp the circumstances under which a bank might consider freezing an account due to concerns about the account holder’s mental capacity. Banks are legally obligated to act in their clients’ best interests, including protecting individuals who may not be capable of making sound financial decisions. Instances where an account holder displays signs of cognitive impairment, such as dementia or severe mental illness, may prompt a bank to intervene. These signs could manifest as erratic transactions, confusion about financial matters, or requests that seem out of character or potentially harmful to the individual’s financial well-being.

Banks must assess the risk and take appropriate action when faced with such situations. Freezing the account temporarily allows the bank to investigate further without risking further financial harm to the holder. It’s important to note that freezing an account is not a punitive measure but rather a protective one aimed at preventing exploitation or financial mismanagement.

Freezing an account due to concerns about mental capacity typically involves several steps to ensure fairness and transparency. Banks may first attempt to contact the account holder or their designated representative to discuss the situation and gather more information. If necessary, they may also consult with legal and medical professionals to objectively assess the individual’s mental capacity.

Once the decision to freeze the account is made, the bank must notify the holder of the action taken and its reasons. This notification allows the individual or their representative to contest the decision if they believe it to be unjust or based on misinformation. Additionally, banks are often required to report such cases to relevant authorities, such as adult protective services or regulatory agencies, to ensure that vulnerable individuals receive the necessary support and protection.

While the idea of a bank freezing an account may initially evoke concern or frustration, it’s essential to recognize the broader implications of this practice. Banks play a vital role in preventing financial exploitation and abuse by taking proactive measures to safeguard the financial interests of vulnerable individuals. Moreover, freezing an account due to concerns about mental capacity can catalyze identifying and addressing underlying issues, such as cognitive decline or elder abuse, that may otherwise go unnoticed.

In conclusion, the decision to freeze a bank account based on concerns about mental capacity is a complex yet necessary aspect of financial regulation and consumer protection. By understanding the rationale behind this practice and the steps involved, individuals can appreciate the role that banks play in ensuring the security and well-being of their clients. Moreover, fostering open communication and cooperation between banks, account holders, and relevant stakeholders is essential for upholding trust and accountability in the financial system.

Tyler Perry Puts $800M Studio Expansion on Hold After Seeing Possibilities of OpenAI

Tyler Perry Puts $800M Studio Expansion on Hold After Seeing Possibilities of OpenAI

Artificial intelligence gives Tyler Perry something to consider regarding his massive $800 million studio expansion after witnessing the wide-ranging potential of OpenAI’s text-to-video model Sora.

IndieWire reported that even though Perry invested four years planning the studio expansion, “which would have added 12 soundstages to the backlot,” it will be “indefinitely on hold.” Now get this: Perry described the evolving tech as “mind-blowing.”

“All of that is currently and indefinitely on hold because of Sora and what I’m seeing,” Perry said. “I had gotten word over the last year or so that this was coming, but I had no idea until I saw recently the demonstrations of what it’s able to do. It’s shocking to me. Being told that it can do all of these things is one thing, but actually seeing the capabilities, it was mind-blowing.”

Apparently, Sora, said Perry, could make it so that studios don’t have to do multiple-location shoots for films or even build practical sets. Perry is no stranger to AI integration, and he’s used the tech in upcoming films for aging makeup. Now, that’s scary for makeup artists in the business, but he did say, per the article, that AI could adversely affect below-the-line workers… Hmm, you think?

“It makes me worry so much about all of the people in the business. Because as I was looking at it, I immediately started thinking of everyone in the industry who would be affected by this, including actors and grip and electric and transportation and sound and editors, and looking at this, I’m thinking this will touch every corner of our industry,” Perry said. “I am very, very concerned that in the near future, a lot of jobs are going to be lost. I really, really feel that very strongly.”

Perry seems conscious of the potential pitfalls as it impacts the blue-collar side of the industry and stresses an “all hands on [deck]” approach to controlling AI and how it may affect skilled workers in the business.

“It can’t be one union fighting every contract every two or three years. I think that it has to be everybody, all involved in how do we protect the future of our industry because it is changing rapidly, right before our eyes,” he added, and went on to express concern in protecting workers when using AI. “I think the only way to move forward in this is to galvanize it as one voice, not only in Hollywood and in this industry, but also in Congress.”

Let’s see how this plays out for Perry, but it’s safe to say AI is here to stay.

‘Bob Marley: One Love’ Surpasses $100M at the Worldwide Box Office

‘Bob Marley: One Love’ Surpasses $100M at the Worldwide Box Office

Paramount Pictures biopic Bob Marley: One Love, based on the prolific life of Jamaican musician Bob Marley, has eclipsed $100 million at the box office in only ten days.

The breakdown includes over $60 million in North America and nearly $40 million from foreign box office. Full stop. These days, when theatrical successes are few and far between, as the exhibition industry still works out the kinks post-pandemic, this is a big win.

It is fair to say Bob Marley: One Love has performed better than projections with a modest production budget of $70 million.

The biopic is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley and Lashana Lynch, who plays Marley’s wife, Rita Marley. Despite the strong performance, the film follows other run-of-the-mill biopic blueprints, follows Marley’s life during essential moments, and dives into his music and the storied activism that arose from it.

In a statement from Bob Marley’s son Ziggy Marley, he said: “My family and I are honored with the amazing response to ‘Bob Marley: One Love’. Like my father’s music, this movie is meant for the people and his message of peace, love, and unity is clearly connecting with audiences around the world. We thank the people for embracing this film and in so doing helping to highlight the message of one love.”
