Latino Heritage Month: Watch New Trailer for ‘Reggaeton: The Sound that Conquered the World’ From Daddy Yankee and Peacock

Screen Shot 2024 09 30 at 4.24.21 PM

Daddy Yankee has been busy lately. The Godfather of reggaeton is promoting a new docuseries Reggaeton: The Sound that Conquered the World which in addition to Daddy Yankee, will bring together some of the genre’s biggest names, including Ivy Queen, and Bad Bunny, to recount the rise of reggaeton from its underground roots to its current global dominance.

Get this, the docuseries will premiere on October 3 on Peacock. It’s being branded as a four-part series is directed by Omar Acosta (Mixtape) and executive produced by Daddy Yankee.

The series seems intriguing and long overdo considering the global impact of the music genre. It will trace reggaeton’s evolution from its early days in the barrios of Puerto Rico to its worldwide commercial success, driven by influential artists like DJ Playero, Bad Bunny, Karol G, Vico C, and J Balvin.

“The project is important today because reggaetón has come such a long way,” Acosta told Billboard. He recalls his early days in Puerto Rico: “I remember when I was a kid… I’d run into Playero, and I would ask him for tapes. First, he would give me mixtapes with hip-hop or house music. And once he gave me a tape of local kids singing, and it was very raw, but to see it go from that to this global phenomenon. It’s important to tell the story of reggaetón because I don’t know that people understand that impact… it’s been generational at this point.”

Diving deeper, Acosta collaborated closely with Daddy Yankee over the past five years to bring the docuseries to fruition.

“We would sit together when I was cutting and editing, and I would see him thinking of the process almost like making a song,” Acosta shared. “He’d tell me, ‘the rhythm in this part here should be more like this.’ It was a great collaboration.”

Klay Thompson Shares Thoughts on Dallas Mavericks Media Day: ‘I’m a hooper, so I can adjust accordingly’

Screen Shot 2024 09 30 at 3.40.28 PM

Klay Thompson is really wearing a Dallas Maverick jersey. Read that again.

At the Mavericks’ media day, the unthinkable became a reality. Luka Doncic summed up their season goal with one word: “Championship.” After a tough loss to the Boston Celtics in last year’s NBA Finals, the Mavs see Thompson, a four-time champion with the Golden State Warriors, as the key piece to get them over the top.

NBA champion Kyrie Irving, instrumental in recruiting Thompson to Dallas, expressed confidence in the team’s title chances with the sharpshooter on board. “I feel like our dreams can be possible because he’s here now,” Irving said, highlighting Thompson’s value to the team’s championship aspirations.

Let’s get one thing right, even at 34, and despite having endured two significant injuries, Thompson remains a dominant 3-point shooter, with a career average of 41.3% from beyond the arc. He’s a splash brother. Period.

His arrival addresses Dallas’ struggles from long range in the Finals, where they only shot 31.6%. With Thompson on the floor, Doncic noted, “When me and Kai have the ball, you basically can’t help off of Klay. Because if you leave him wide open, he’s going to make it.”

Coach Jason Kidd also praised Thompson’s elite shooting ability, “When you talk about Klay, he’s going to go down as one of the best shooters of all-time. To have him on our side makes the game offensively easier.”

What’s interesting and remains to be seen if this will be a challenge or if Thompson will gel or have a learning curve within the Mavericks offensive system. Thompson acknowledged that transitioning to the Mavs’ pick-and-roll-heavy offense, a stark contrast to Golden State’s motion-based system, will take some adjustment. However, he’s confident in his ability to adapt. “Just being able to play with Luka the last few days, his ability in the pick-and-roll is maybe the best I’ve ever seen,” Thompson remarked. He emphasized the importance of preseason as he adjusts to the new system but is optimistic about the process: “I’m a hooper, so I can adjust accordingly, and I look forward to doing that.”

Good luck, Klay and welcome to the Mavericks.

UNDERWATER PROJECTS, narrated by comedian Wanda Sykes and directed by Liz Havstad, explores the dangers of coastal urban flooding in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, where the world’s largest naval base is threatened by rising sea levels. The film highlights how insufficient flood walls in the area leave vulnerable communities—like a nearby housing project and historic African American neighborhood—exposed. Combining live action with animation, the film profiles local leaders working to develop climate resilience plans. It’s available for viewing at WeShallBreathe.com.

nvestigation Discovery (ID) has released the trailer for its upcoming documentary, Chris Brown: A History of Violence, which delves into the troubled legal history of the controversial pop star. Set to premiere on October 27, the documentary will be part of ID’s third annual “No Excuse for Abuse” campaign, spotlighting issues related to domestic violence and abuse.

The documentary examines the various legal issues Brown has faced throughout his career, with a particular focus on his infamous 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna. The incident, which resulted in severe injuries requiring hospitalization for the pop star, brought Brown’s violent behavior into the public eye. Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault and accepted a plea deal, but the legal troubles didn’t stop there.

Since the 2009 incident, Brown’s history has been marked by other troubling encounters, including a separate guilty plea to an assault charge and a sexual assault lawsuit that was eventually settled out of court. The documentary will explore these incidents and more, offering a deep dive into the darker side of the singer’s career.

Brown, known for hits like “With You,” “Forever,” and the viral sensation “Under the Influence,” has often made headlines for his chart-topping music. However, his legal issues, which include domestic violence, assault charges, and multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, continue to cast a shadow over his success.

Chris Brown: A History of Violence joins other hard-hitting documentaries from ID, which previously produced Quiet on Set, an exposé of child abuse allegations within Nickelodeon. By spotlighting Brown’s troubled past, the network aims to continue its mission of raising awareness about the ongoing issue of abuse and reinforcing the message that there is “No Excuse for Abuse.”

The release of the documentary comes at a time when discussions around accountability and the treatment of survivors remain critical in the entertainment industry. A History of Violence promises to shed light on the singer’s long history of legal troubles, offering viewers an unflinching look at the complicated legacy of Chris Brown.

Sabrina Carpenter Jokes About Eric Adams Situation: ‘Should we talk about how I got the Mayor indicted?’

Screen Shot 2024 09 30 at 2.48.50 PM

We didn’t have Sabrina Carpenter joking about Eric Adams on our bingo card. But that happened. Okay during her concert at Madison Square Garden, Sabrina Carpenter addressed the recent headlines involving her and the indictment of New York Mayor Eric Adams … Only in New York.

Okay, the controversy stems from Carpenter’s 2023 music video for “Feather,” which reportedly played a role in the mayor’s legal troubles. Smiling at the crowd, Carpenter joked, “Should we talk about how I got the Mayor indicted?”

Now get this, the moment, captured in a viral clip with nearly 100 million views, has further fueled speculation about the connection between the video and the mayor’s corruption investigation.

ourThe “Feather” video, filmed at a Brooklyn Catholic church, led to the dismissal of Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello. It was claimed that the video’s controversial content contributed to the scandal involving Mayor Adams. Small world.

ICYMI, on September 23, the New York Post reported that federal investigators subpoenaed the church where the video was shot, focusing on ties between Gigantiello and Adams’ former chief of staff, Frank Carone. While the church has not directly linked the video to the investigation, it confirmed full cooperation with authorities.

What’s more, the “Feather” video was released in October, it faced immediate backlash from the Diocese of Brooklyn due to its provocative and violent imagery. Church officials even re-blessed the location and reprimanded Gigantiello. In response, Carpenter maintained that she had received proper permission to film there. Light-heartedly, she told Variety, “Jesus was a carpenter,” and even sported a T-shirt with that slogan during her Coachella performances.

Meanwhile, Mayor Adams, is charged with bribery and fraud, and publicly denied the allegations.

Judge Slams Prosecution in YSL Trial: ‘Really Poor Lawyering’, No Mistrial

Screen Shot 2024 09 30 at 2.28.56 PM

The YSL RICO trial of Young Thug and company just made headlines yet again. The Judge Paige Reese Whitaker, presiding has voiced her adamant frustration with the prosecution.

It all went down today (September 30), during the trial’s unfathomable 138th day, Judge Whitaker sharply criticized the state for allegedly prolonging the case and developing it in unclear and potentially deceptive ways.

Get this, her fiery remarks came in response to a new motion for a mistrial, which the defense has been pushing for throughout the trial.

“I can’t figure out what it is,” Judge Whitaker began in a scathing critique of the prosecution. “If it’s disingenuous… I mean, I don’t want to malign the prosecutor standing in front of me right now. So I’m not going to say the possible things that it could be. But it is baffling to me that somebody with the number of years of experience that you have, time after time after time, continues to seemingly purposefully hide the ball to the extent that you possibly can for as long as you possibly can. And I really don’t want to believe that it is purposeful.”

Oh but wait, she didn’t hold back when she continued, “But honestly, after a certain number of times, you start to wonder how it could be anything but that. Unless it is just that you are so unorganized that you are throwing this case together as you try it. And I am sorry to say that. But this case is being made much more difficult for everybody because of the haphazard way in which it is being presented. I’m going to take a recess for a few minutes. I’ll have a ruling when I get back.”

Despite her scathing criticism, Judge Whitaker ultimately denied the defense’s motion for a mistrial. While the defense may still attempt to file another motion, her strong rebuke of the prosecution indicates her growing dissatisfaction with how the case has been handled.

So anyway you slice it, the judge is clearly not happy about how the prosecution is handling the case but no mistrial means the show will go on.

The Young Thug Trial Judge Suggested The Prosecution Is ‘Throwing The Case Together’ As She Considered Mistrial

The judge in the ongoing racketeering trial against Young Thug appears to have reached the end of her patience with the prosecution. Judge Paige Reese Whitaker upbraided Chief Assistant District Attorney Adriane Love for the presentation of the State of Georgia’s case during court today, just ahead of considering a mistrial motion filed by the defense.

“I don’t want to malign the prosecutor standing in front of me right now, so I’m not going to say the possible things it could be,” Whitaker said. “It is baffling to me that somebody with the number of years of experience that you have, time after time after time, continues to seemingly and purposefully hide the ball to the extent you possibly can, for as long as you possibly can. I really don’t want to believe that it is purposeful, but honestly, after a certain number of times, you start to wonder how can it be anything but that. Unless it is just that you are so unorganized that you are throwing this case together as you try it.”

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the trial has become the longest in Georgia state history as a result of numerous delays, many the direct result of the DA’s office’s presentation of its case, as well as issues with its previous judge, who was removed and replaced by Whitaker earlier this summer. The trial, which was to have begun in 2021, still has over 100 witnesses to get through, and if not declared a mistrial, is expected to continue into next year.

Young Thug is accused of one count of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, possession of a firearm while committing a felony; possession of a machine gun; two counts of participating in criminal street activity; and three counts of violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act. The DA’s office says Thug was the co-founder and leader of a criminal street gang, Young Slime Life — which not so coincidentally shares initials with his label, Young Stoner Life. The State believes that the label is a cover for and funds the gang’s activities, which include a string of violent crimes such as murder, robbery, and assault.

Snoop Dogg & Dave East Team Up For “Bosco” Soundtrack Cut “Love You More”

Back in the beginning of the year, NBC streaming subsidiary Peacock released Bosco. The film is based on the true story of one Quawntay “Bosco” Adams, who was handed down a 35-year prison sentence for attempting to possess marijuana. However, with a child on the way, he was going to make sure that he was going to be able to make it to the hospital. But him and a woman from Missouri have to get through constant security and a maximum-security wing of the prison. The film adaptation of the book, Chasin Freedum, hit the streaming platform on February 2. Around the time of this announcement, it was revealed that major hip-hop artists would be on its accompanying soundtrack. DDG, French Montana, and The Game are a few of them.

However, we are going to be talking about the collaboration between Snoop Dogg and Dave East, “Love You More”. Overall, given that it’s for a movie’s soundtrack, the production is very clean. However, it does have a nice rhythm and it’s more of a lovey R&B cut. Helping with that more lowkey vibe is singer WHOISTEVENYOUNG, who is sort of sounds like Chris Brown. This track between these three talents of varying experience is one of 10 on the Bosco (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) – Side A. Given the title, we can expect to hear more tracks. However, there doesn’t seem to be any confirmation on that just yet, so we are just speculating right now. You can check out “Love You More” with the link below to it’s new music video.

Kanye West Was The Guest Of Honor At La Dinastia Wagner’s Wrestling Event In Japan

Kanye West is a big fan of Japanese wrestling, as he proved a couple of months ago when he “performed” at an event in the country. Well, it looks like he’s a regular attendee – or at least, as regular as an attendee can be when they spend so much time traveling the world, making music, and being as controversial as he is. Moreover, Ye recently went to another wrestling event in Japan with star La Dinastia Wagner, who actually fist-bumped him when he spotted him in the crowd. The moment was a pretty big deal for the crossover audience that’s a fan of both worlds.

Furthermore, this went down on Monday (September 30) at a Pro Wrestling NOAH event in Tokyo. In addition, other wrestlers greeted Kanye West, including Los Golpeadores, Super Crazy, and Daga. We can’t imagine that he will stay in Tokyo for long, though, as he’s also reportedly working hard on his recently announced upcoming solo album, Bully. While we wait for that drop (if it ever actually manifests, that is), check out the video with La Dinastia Wagner by clicking the “Via” link down below.

Kanye West At Japan Wrestling Event

As far as other extracurricular hijinks in Kanye West’s life, his Malibu mansion’s new owner blasted him for how he gutted the property. “That was a really dumb move. Really no purpose,” Belwood Investments CEO Bo Belmont told The Los Angeles Times. “He single-handedly destroyed this architectural masterpiece. My goal is to make it as though Kanye was never there. The house will be restored right back to what it was. It would have required extensive review… There’s a process to it and he does things his own way, and the city of Malibu, they don’t care who you are they’ll hold you accountable.”

Meanwhile, Kanye West seems like he’s in a more relatively chill space right now compared to other moments throughout 2024. Fans really enjoyed his Eastern shows in Korea and China, including a wholesome performance of “Only One” to the song’s inspiration, his daughter North West. Whether wrestling matches or real estate moves contribute to it, we hope that Ye continues to heal.
