Who Did Boosie Badazz Influence?

Louisiana-born rapper Boosie Badazz has come a long way in the rap game since his days as a member of the Southern hip-hop collective Concentration Camp. Formerly known as Lil Boosie, Boosie Badazz’s influence in the rap game, especially in Southern hip-hop, is undeniable. Hence, it isn’t surprising that some of the greatest talents in rap music gained inspiration from Boosie.

However, his impact on the genre came into question recently following remarks made by Kanye West. Still, Boosie knows his worth and is ready to defend his legacy at any opportunity. Thus, when Kanye West claimed to have invented every style of music for the last two decades, Boosie was among those who strongly disagreed with him. Taking to his Instagram page, the Baton Rouge rapper shared an excerpt from Kanye’s interview and captioned it, “NOT ALL GENRES NOT EVERY STYLE NOT BOOSIE MUSIC YOU CANT RELATE TO NOTHING I RAP ABOUT R YOUR MUSICNOBODY LISTENS TO KANYE N THE PROJECTS R THE TRENCHES IM,A GON HEAD N SAY IT “ MY PEOPLE DO NOT RELATE TO YOU.””

In October 2022, Boosie also claimed to have influenced more “street n****s” than any other rapper in history. Boosie made this claim during an interview with VladTV. While discussing Kodak Black’s tribute to him in the song, “Too Boosie,” Boosie Badazz declared, “Ain’t nobody ever in rap history never raised more street n****s than me. I’m talking ’bout no rapper in history raised more street n****s” than me.” Boosie further claimed that every generation loves him, adding that he is always thankful when people credit him for his career.

It takes a man worth his salt to make such claims, and Boosie wasn’t playing when he made those comments. But how true are his words? Is Boosie Badazz’s influence in the rap game as great as he makes it out to be? Here are five rappers who credited Boosie Badazz for influencing their music.

Young Dolph

Memphis-born rapper Young Dolph opened up about how Boosie Badazz influenced him to start rapping. A clip from an interview before Young Dolph’s death showed him admitting to Boosie Badazz’s influence. The late rapper shared that he met Boosie through a friend, and they smoked weed together. In that moment, Young Dolph stated that he knew Boosie was an authentic individual, even as he lived a particularly affluent lifestyle. That attitude and show of wealth struck a chord with Young Dolph, who declared soon after they left Boosie’s place that he would start rapping.

Boosie also talked about his influence on Young Dolph’s career during an Instagram Live on Feb. 5, 2024. He revealed that Young Dolph decided to start rapping after selling him weed. Boosie shared, “[Young Dolph] said that after he sold me that weed, man, that n***a got there from rappin’? I’m fixin’ to rap. That was 2006. I inspired a lot of muthafuckas. A lot of muthafuckas. I just don’t like to give me my flowers. You gotta be a real n**** to give me my flowers.”

MO3

Besides Young Dolph, another late rapper who rose to fame thanks to Boosie Baddazz’s influence was Dallas MC MO3. MO3 was signed to Boosie’s label and collaborated with him on different occasions. They worked on the 2019 song “Errybody,” before collaborating on the joint album BadAzz Mo3 a year later. Boosie and Mo3’s album peaked at no. 136 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

MO3 spoke about Boosie Badazz’s influence on his musical career during a chat with Flaunt to promote his and Boosie’s joint album. MO3 was dubbed the Boosie of Dallas then and expressed his delight at earning that title. “It feels good. That’s an accomplishment. That means I’m destined to be legendary. I’m holding all that weight right now. I’m this generation’s Boosie,” he said. MO3 also described Boosie as his favorite rapper, saying, “That’s my favorite. I don’t have any other favorites. Because he rapped my life. He helped me get through my days. Before I was rapping, I was 14 listening to him.” MO3 is no longer alive, but he managed to make a great impact in his lifetime, thanks to Boosie.

Kodak Black

Kodak Black is very grateful to Boosie Badazz for his influence and has never hidden his admiration for him. During an appearance on DJ Whoo Kid’s podcast, Whoolywood Shuffle, about five years ago, Kodak was asked which rappers inspired him while growing up. In his response, Kodak said, “Lil Boosie and Plies.” To show his appreciation for Boosie even more, Kodak released the song “Too Boosie,” in 2021. In the track, he paid tribute to Boosie and referenced how he acts like the Baton Rouge rapper. Kodak also rapped about Boosie’s influence on his lifestyle.

TEC

Baton Rouge rapper is another MC who gained inspiration from Boosie. Being from the same city as Boosie, it isn’t surprising that TEC was greatly influenced by him. TEC endured so much to get to where he is today and those life lessons taught him to be stronger. Tec, who has spoken about Boosie’s influence on his music, adopts the latter’s brash and vulnerable style. In October 2021, TEC released an album, Web The World, in which he featured Boosie in the song, “Clapped Up.”

In an interview with Passion Of The Weiss, Tec opened up about how it felt to feature Boosie on a song. He said, “That shit meant a lot. That was like a goal in itself. Everyone from Baton Rouge wanna get a song with Boose. He was everybody’s favorite rapper at some point. Especially if you from our city – f**k rapper, he’s a role model and shit. Everybody wanted to be that n***a, fa real. So, to have him on my album? That s**t raw.” In another interview with Thirty Visuals, TEC named Boosie Badazz as one of his biggest influences.

YFN Lucci

During YFN Lucci’s rise to fame, one of those who helped him was a close friend, Nut. In an interview with Complex, Lucci said, “I met Nut when I was like, 22.” Nut believed Lucci would become successful in the rap game and supported him willingly. However, Nut died right after Lucci dropped his first mixtapes. Lucci made an EP titled Long Live Nut to honor his late friend. The last song on the EP was the track “Testimony,” featuring Boosie, who was Nut’s favorite rapper. Like Boosie, the Atlanta-based YFN Lucci employs emotive storytelling in his lyrics. He also loves using melodic hooks to keep his listeners tuned in.

Boosie Badazz has a great influence on hip-hop, especially the Southern hip-hop scene. Rappers like Young Dolph, Kodak Black, MO3, and TEC seem to have adopted Boosie’s musical style, making them more appealing to Southern hip-hop fans. Hence, though not everyone likes Boosie Badazz, he is not wrong when he says he influenced many artists in the rap game.

A great track on its own, Glock wanted to bring another version out, with this Young Dolph remix being the most special of them all.

It will be three years on November 17 since his untimely passing and the fans miss him more and more every day. Today, we have another posthumous track as Young Dolph and GORDO are teaming up for “Kill For This S***.”

GORDO may not sound familiar to many, but maybe referring to him as Carnage or DJ Carnage will help. The multi-genre producer has worked with some of the topflight rappers in the game from Migos, Young Thug, and more. This now GORDO’s first collaboration with Dolph and it is not your typical Memphis trap track. The Guatemalan-American DJ works in the EDM and house lanes too and that is the direction for “Kill For This S***.”

Young Dolph Trial’s Judge Scorches His Alleged Killer In Court: Watch

The trial for the murder of Young Dolph is meant to be an unbiased and fair one, but that is becoming quite difficult to see these days. However, it’s important to note that it’s for external reasons, so there’s no actual threat of injustice when it comes to the verdict. Moreover, this stems from Shelby County Judge Jennifer Mitchell’s recent reprimanding of prime suspect Hernandez Govan in a Tennessee courtroom this week, according to court documents obtained by AllHipHop. For those unaware, he sought a change in his bond terms, as he wants to be able to find employment to provide for his family.

Furthermore, Govan stands accused as the mastermind behind the hit on Young Dolph. The court charged him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. They arrested the suspect in November of 2022, a year after the rapper’s passing, and granted him a $90K bond and house arrest arrangements. This also follows other developments in this court proceeding, such as authorities seeking jurors outside of Memphis to lessen the risk of bias in the outcome.

Back to Judge Mitchell, though, she chastised Govan for his behavior during this bond and house arrest term. “Mr. Govan, I don’t have to tell you how serious these charges are,” she began her remarks about the Young Dolph case. Mitchell believes he is “playing fast and loose with the court” and disrespected the judicial process. “You’re doing interviews… and the court doesn’t like the fact that you feel free enough to do interviews. You are to not have any interviews with anybody for any reason.”

“Please don’t give me any reason to revoke this bond,” Judge Mitchell concluded her statement. The court will review Govan’s bond conditions on March 1, and it’s unclear how this will impact the rest of the trial. However, there’s already a lot of speculation and dissatisfaction with how this whole thing is panning out, and whether this will really bring the justice the late Memphis legend deserves. Young Dolph Murder Suspect Begs Judge To Allow Him To Work

The alleged mastermind behind Young Dolph’s murder, Hernandez Govan, wants this accusation to weigh less heavily on him. Moreover, according to AllHipHop, Hernandez Govan filed a request to Judge Jennifer Mitchell, who presides over his case, to ease his house arrest terms to he can find employment. Govan faces first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder charges. His current 24-hour house arrest lockdown began with his leave on bond in May of 2023 for $90,000. Govan reportedly wants to find work to support his wife and daughter, something that the court already denied him.

Furthermore, Judge Lee Coffee denied Govan’s previous request for this house arrest relaxation. This was due to claims that he violated his bond terms by failing to get permission to travel outside of Shelby County, and doing so anyway. Not only that, but the judge warned Govan was probably at risk of falling victim to a targeted attack thanks to his alleged involvement in Young Dolph’s murder. “Memphis Shelby County, Tennessee is the first most violent metropolitan area in the country,” Coffee remarked. “This case has generated a substantial amount of publicity, and if you’re running around free… somebody might be trying to kill you.”

Reportedly, Hernandez Govan isn’t too concerned with this risk, and simply wants to work to provide for his family. However, it seems like this trial, which is set to begin on June 3 of this year, won’t involve too much hometown bias, or at least much less than what suspects feared. Justin Johnson in particular, another suspect in this case, allegedly begged that the jury in this case not be from Memphis to avoid a strong connection to the victim. This is because the rapper’s passing was so impactful, shocking, and deeply saddening for the community that jurors from the local area are much less likely to be impartial.

Johnson actually got his wish, and now we’re just waiting for the rest of the trial to manifest itself. We can’t really guess as to whether the court will be receptive to Govan’s request, but we can’t image previous precedent paints a pretty picture. Suspect From Lil Baby Concert Shooting Revealed As CEO Jizzle’s Brother

In a shocking twist, the identity of the shooter who shot Young Dolph’s cousin, CEO Jizzle, at the recent Lil Baby concert in Memphis in Sept. 2023 has been revealed. It was unveiled that the shooter has been identified as Jizzle’s brother.

Brotherly Betrayal?

The suspect responsible for the gunfire has been identified as none other than Kevin Young, the brother of CEO Jizzle, who was injured during the incident. During a court hearing on Tuesday, court records revealed that Kevin Young’s bond had been revoked by a Shelby County judge in Tennessee.

Young, who was 22 years old at the time of the incident, fired a shot inside the downtown arena and struck his brother, CEO Jizzle, during the rap concert. Fortunately, Jizzle only sustained minor injuries after being hit in the stomach, as confirmed by officials.

Prior To Charges

Lil Baby’s recent concert in Memphis, Tennessee, took a dangerous turn when gunshots rang out. The Atlanta rapper was forced to abruptly end his performance, as a man, who was recently identified as the cousin of the late rapper Young Dolph, was shot and rushed to the hospital.

Young Dolph’s Cousin Shot

On September 7, Lil Baby was forced to abruptly end his performance at the FedExForum as one person was shot and rushed to the hospital. The gunshot victim was later revealed to be Ceo Jizzy, the cousin of the late Memphis rapper Young Dolph.

Gunshots erupted during the Its Only Us artist’s performance, where he was headlining his “Lil Baby and Friends” Tour. The Memphis police swiftly responded to the scene on Beale Street, arriving around 10:30 PM.

As they arrived, Ceo Jizzy had been injured from the shooting. A video captured the moment he was wheeled out of the venue, still conscious but in critical condition. Jizzy was immediately transported to Regional One Hospital for medical treatment.

A day later, Jizzy posted a clip of himself in a hospital bed on social media, where he not only asks fans to “pray” for him, but to “pray for the opps.”

An Eyewitness Speaks Out

According to Memphis police, the shooting took place on the first floor of the FedExForum, but no further details have been released regarding the circumstances. The incident occurred within the first thirty minutes of the concert, leading to the evacuation of the arena for safety reasons.

Clarissa Johnson, an eyewitness, described her experience when the shots were fired, stating:

“I heard a pop. I’m not sure what happened but I had a suite, so I told all my crew, ‘get down.’ So we evacuated. Once we evacuated, did a head count. I’m still not sure what happened. It’s not so sweet tonight, though.”

Due to the incident, Lil Baby’s scheduled performance in Louisville has been canceled, according to Ticketmaster. The identity of the shooter remains unknown at this time.

Under the banner of “Black Men Deserve to Grow Old,” Mia Jaye holds individuals accountable for the violent acts that plague their community. She believes that the lack of accountability perpetuates the cycle of senseless killings, and it’s time for change. Jaye shared in the interview:

“We’re not holding one another accountable for the lives that are being taken senselessly, violently, and things of that nature. And so we need to speak up and let our people know like we need to do better.”

‘I Don’t Want People Thinking We’re Good’

The tragic loss of her brother in 2021, followed by the murder of Young Dolph on November 17, 2021, catapulted Jaye into action. As a mother of their two children, she finds solace and empowerment in their creativity and talent.

The children, aged 6 and 9, have embraced their voices and are actively participating in the movement. Jaye explained:

“They feel so empowered, you know, as 6 and 9-year-olds, right. Like they feel so empowered, like they have a voice and they’re using it, and they see their creation come to life and they’re just so proud of it.”

However, two years after Young Dolph’s murder, Mia Jaye’s frustration with the judicial system is palpable. She has taken to social media to raise her concerns and demand accountability. In her plea to the public, she emphasized:

“I don’t want people thinking we’re good; we’re just plugging along. No, we’re not. I don’t even know what’s going on, so let the public ask y’all. That’s why I opened up my mouth because the feet still need to be held to the fire.”

Jaye expressed her dismay at the news surrounding the case, particularly regarding Judge Lee Coffee recusing himself and accused shooter Justin Johnson of producing a song while in jail. She expressed frustration:

“For me to see this play out as if it is some type of entertainment… That’s a disrespect to me. That’s a disrespect to my family, and it’s a disrespect to Adolph.”

When asked about her vision of justice for the late rapper, Mia Jaye emphasized the importance of truth and accountability:

“It looks like the truth coming to the forefront, not just a fall guy, a fall that won’t be good enough… Everybody who had any type of involvement with this being brought to justice, being brought front and center, being handed a sentence.”

The trial for Young Dolph’s accused killers will start in 2024.

In other news involving justice for Young Dolph, the trial dates have been set for murder suspects Cornelius Smith and Justin Johnson. The date for the suspects will be March 11, 2024, in Shelby County, Tennessee.

The “Preach” rapper was posthumously honored by his hometown of Memphis and Georgia with his “Dolph Day of Service.” The day was first recognized on November 17, 2022, the first anniversary of Young Dolph’s death.

Young Dolph’s murder investigation and trial is underway, and the late rapper’s fiancée Mia Jaye isn’t happy with its progress at all. Moreover, she recently spoke to WREG about the whole ordeal, as well as what she thinks will truly bring justice to Dolph’s memory. During Jaye’s remarks, she suggested that there are many more individuals involved in this tragedy than what court suspects indicate. Specifically, many could interpret this as a reference to his previous rap beefs, although those don’t seem to have anything to do with this loss as of yet. Regardless, there’s a lot about this trial that the Memphis MC’s partner expressed discomfort with.

I’ll never get over this sh*t. let me deal with it alone luv,” Key Glock wrote on Dolph’s passing’s anniversary.

As one of the Paper Route Empire boss’ main companions, Key’s always done his part to do right by him. Nevertheless, this court process will define how this incident goes down in the history books.
