Tyler The Creator Fulfilled His Decade-Long Dream Of Headlining Coachella With ASAP Rocky, Childish Gambino, And More

Tyler The Creator pulled out all the stops for his high-flying headlining set at Coachella 2024, opening with an explosive stage entrance and bringing out a slew of surprise guests, including ASAP Rocky, Charlie Wilson, Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover), and Kali Uchis. During the set, he reminisced about his first playing Coachella back in 2011 with Odd Future and how chaotic that set was in comparison. In his own words: “I didn’t even know what Coachella was.”

On Saturday night, he fulfilled a decade-long dream of headlining (which included an undercard performance in 2018 that presaged his eventual top billing), incorporating a park ranger motif with a set designed to look like a desert mesa. Over the course of the show, he brought flames, fireworks, and a UFO that hovered over him and Rocky as they performed “Who Dat Boy” from Flower Boy and the standalone “Potato Salad.” Meanwhile, Glover popped out to perform a smooth rendition of his 3.15.20 track “Time.” Kali Uchis naturally showed up to sing hre chorus from their collaboration “See You Again,” while Wilson sat at a piano with Tyler to sing his part from “Earfquake.”

Tyler’s set certainly lived up to the hype. Then, near the end, he was blown off one of the buttes surrounding him and yanked off stage in another masterfully crafted stunt. And just like that, in the words of his Call Me When You Get Lost collaborator DJ Drama, he was gone.

What Songs Can You Expect Tyler The Creator To Perform At Coachella 2024?

With Coachella kicking off just about a day from this writing, you might be looking to get familiar with the works of the headlining acts, Doja Cat, Lana Del Rey, No Doubt, and Tyler The Creator. While you can learn more about what songs the latter might be performing right here, you can click the others’ names to see their potential setlists.

So, what songs will Tyler The Creator be performing?

While there’s no way to know for sure until he’s actually onstage, we do know he won’t be performing any songs from his new album — because he doesn’t have one coming (yet). At least, that’s what he says, but you know Tyler… always looking to surprise his fans.

So, we can look to his most recent festival performance — at last year’s excellect Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival — for some clues. You can check out that full setlist here.

Naturally, that setlist was dominated in large part by Tyler’s most recent album, Call Me If You Get Lost, with performances of “WUSYANAME,” “LUMBERJACK,” and “DOGTOOTH.” Meanwhile, fan favorites from across his career popped up in the set, with early breakout “Yonkers,” fan-favorite “IFHY,” and “Tamale” filling out the midpoint. Of course, his critical darlings Flower Boy and Igor were both well-represented, with examples from each making up the remainder. I wouldn’t be surprised if he performs “See You Again,” “Earfquake,” and “New Magic Wand,” which were some of the standouts from those albums.

We’ll find out on Saturday at 11:40pm. For more set times, click here.

Azealia Banks Suggested That Tyler The Creator And Lil Nas X Become A ‘Power Couple’ And At Least One Of Them Seemed Into It

Azealia Banks is mainly known for her incendiary takes on everything from Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter cover to Nicki Minaj’s feud with Megan Thee Stallion, but her latest hot take to go viral is slightly more… romantic(?). While criticizing Tyler The Creator and Lil Nas X for their romantic interests (ah, there it is), she made a suggestion that one seems open to and the other just seems confused by.

“I really think Tyler The Creator and Lil Nas X should get over their obsession with broke white bussy and become a power couple,” she wrote on Instagram. In a caption, she elaborated, “No more white Taco Bell-eating Caucasian twinkery, guys,” which is, admittedly, one hell of a roast. She also took the opportunity to accuse Lil Nas X of jocking her style (ONE hit 14 years ago, has anyone ever seen such a run of semi-relevance behind less?), offer some suggestions for new collaborators, and make vague allusions to the allegations against Diddy — who again, has also not had a serious hit in like a decade. Someone buy this woman a Delorean and the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity it’d take for her to catch up to 2024.

In any event, Tyler seemed amused by her matchmaking attempt, writing, “lmfao what the hell” in response. Nas took things a step further, joking(?), “azealia banks is right! Me and tyler SHOULD f*ck!”

I am sure that there are those in the stan community who would love nothing less than to see her unhinged shipping fantasy come true. Meanwhile, those of us who have business of our own to mind (and lord, how I wish mine did NOT include writing about this nonsense for clicks) will continue to do so while Banks worries about everybody else.

Reneé Rapp And Tyler The Creator Will Have Merch Mystery Boxes At Coachella For AmEx Cardholders

With Coachella just around the corner, as the California festival starts later this week, American Express will be treating its cardholders to some special surprises while they’re there. Those with a card can bring up to three guests into the Amex Experience, which has four different immersive rooms. One of the spaces is themed to Reneé Rapp‘s album, Snow Angel, as she’s performing at the fest. The rest include a “retro snack bar,” a “bustling night market,” and a calming “cave-like room,” according to a release.

The perks don’t end there, though. Cardholders will be able to access exclusive merch at Coachella through a new merch-to-go window. This year, there will be mystery boxes of merch from Rapp and Tyler The Creator, which could include anything from hats to larger items like sweatshirts. Tyler The Creator’s merch can also be found at the Coachella Artist Merch Tent or the Golf Wang pop-up one.

Last, but certainly not least, American Express is partnering with In Your Dreams to provide festival attendees with complimentary glam services, whether you’re looking for hair help or some cool makeup.

Some of these same experiences, including the non-alcoholic bar, will also be available for those heading to Stagecoach instead of Coachella. They just will have a different spin on it. More information about Coachella 2024 can be found here.

Tyler The Creator Reacts To Azealia Banks Shipping Him & Lil Nas X

Azealia Banks is perhaps the most notoriously opinionated person on the Internet in the music space, which can lead to mixed results. Sometimes, her rants are right on the money, whereas other expressions leave everyone either scratching their heads or clapping back with retorts. We’ll let you decide where the rapper’s most recent statement on Tyler The Creator and Lil Nas X fall on that spectrum. Moreover, she recently took to Instagram to express her belief that they should be a “power couple” and stop looking for a love life with white partners, elaborating on the matter in quite the unfiltered way.

“I really think Tyler the creator and lil nas x should get over their obsession with broke white bussy and become a power couple,” Azealia Banks shared. “I think the sensationalism of successful black gay men toting trailer a** rent man hookers as arm candy is played , predictable and and [sic] they’re both obviously being objectified and plotted on by these boys for hire. It would be way more monumental to see to [sic] young black gay men as an item. Even just for aesthetic reasons. The idea of spending the extra hardly earned black male dollars on some cheap white buss is extra whack.”

Azealia Banks Explains Why These Two Rap Stars Should Be A “Power Couple”

As Azealia Banks’ rant continued in the caption, she said that they would shift culture and that Tyler, The Creator could “teach Lil Nas X how to rap so he can stop doing his Azealia Banks impression.” She also offered a list of people that Nas should collaborate with, blasted white creative directors, slandered Arca for some reason, and said that the industry celebrates child sex traffickers rather than actual talent. As you can see above, it was all pretty loaded. But Tyler had a comically simple response to all this in Banks’ post’s comments section: “lmfao what the hell.”

Tyler The Creator’s Response

Meanwhile, this is all kind of ironic because of a viral clip of Jerrod Carmichael explaining how the IGOR creative bluntly rejected his romantic advances as Tyler laughed. Do you think Nas will also respond, and does she have a point here? However you may feel, drop your thoughts down in the comments section below. Pharrell Williams Dropped A New Album, ‘Virginia: Black Yacht Rock Vol. 1,’ While You Were Arguing About Kendrick Lamar And J. Cole

One of music’s biggest artists just pulled a Beyoncé, quietly dropping a new album without warning in the middle of the night. No, it wasn’t J. Cole, whose mixtape Might Delete Later has been dominating social media discussion today as a result of his “7 Minute Drill” call-out of Kendrick Lamar. While y’all were arguing about whose entry in the Burn Book was more vicious (smh), Pharrell Williams released Virginia: Black Yacht Rock, Vol. 1 —City Of Limitless Access for his 51st birthday. It sounds exactly as its title suggests.

Of course, it’s fair if you didn’t realize such a thing happened. I myself didn’t catch on until Pharrell superfan Tyler The Creator posted about it on Twitter, at which point, I scrambled through the DSPs (yes, all of them, music writers can write off all those memberships on our taxes — this is me reminding myself to actuall do my taxes) only to find out that its only available on its own website. Hit up blackyachtrock.com to hear it. Feel free to throw on a linen suit first, make yourself a tropical drink. You can also download it and take it on a yacht with you laters. Whatever… ahem… floats your boat.

Pharrell’s new album arrives, strangely enough, after news of friction between him and his former production partner, Chad Hugo, over the name of their production group, The Neptunes. You can read about it here.

Tyler The Creator’s Coachella 2024 Billboard Serves As A Warning To Phone-Addicted Fans

Tyler The Creator helms “The Best Festival In America” in Camp Flag Gnaw, according to Uproxx’s Aaron Williams and Philip Cosores. He’s bringing his cachet to Coachella 2024 as the headliner on Saturday, April 13, and Saturday, April 20, with Lana Del Rey and Doja Cat serving as the other headliners. Tyler is also bringing his no-nonsense attitude to Coachella Valley.

On Wednesday, April 3, Complex (and several other outlets) circulated a billboard from Tyler that reads, “I would love to see y’all faces and not your phone lights.”

The billboard’s messaging aligns with Tyler’s creative values, which he has relentlessly expressed over the years. In early 2022, for example, the two-time Grammy winner sat down for Converse’s All-Star Series and made (ironically) viral comments about NFTs.

“What the f*ck is an NFT, bro, if I’m really outside?” he said, in part. “I bought a Mini Cooper three weeks ago, 1991 Rover Mini Cooper, just to put a f*cking bike rack on it to drive to San Pedro to ride my bike down the hills out there because it’s awesome. I’m really outside. What the f*ck is an NFT?”

So, presumably, Tyler will not hesitate to pause Coachella should fans disregard his instructions to experience his set through their phones.

What Happened Between Jerrod Carmichael And Tyler The Creator?

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael had his new TV show premiere over the weekend. Since then, a clip of him confessing his feelings to Tyler The Creator has gone viral. “You laughed and called me a stupid b*tch,” Carmichael jokingly said in the scene.

Carmichael putting this on the show left many who saw it online wondering what exactly the back story was. Here’s what to know.

What Happened Between Jerrod Carmichael & Tyler The Creator?

During the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show, he revealed that he developed feelings for Tyler The Creator and decided to text him about it, according To Entertainment Weekly. Carmichael also invited him to possibly be his date to the 2022 Emmy Awards, but he was busy.

“I fell in love with my best friend. 1 out of 10, don’t recommend,” Carmichael told the audience in one of the show’s clips. “I knew I had to tell him. Things started getting kind of weird between us. I had these feelings… so I texted him.”

“I remember saying, ‘I know you didn’t ask for this, but somewhere down the line I developed feelings for you and I don’t know what to do with that,’” he added. “Then I immediately turned my phone off and went into therapy.”

This text conversation led to Carmichael asking Tyler to sit down and talk about how their friendship turned awkward after that.

Check out the clip above.

Jerrod Carmichael And Tyler The Creator Sat Down To Discuss An Awkward Text Exchange In Which Tyler Called Him A ‘Stupid B*tch’

Jerrod Carmichael‘s new reality show, Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show has everyone tuning in. In the premiere episode, Carmichael detailed a fairly awkward encounter he had with a famous rapper.

Back in 2021, Carmichael sent Tyler The Creator a text confession his feelings for him. Tyler, however, seemed to receive the confession in a rather unserious manner. Evidently, Tyler responded to the text message calling Carmichael a “stupid b*tch” and laughing.

But Carmichael continued to shoot his shot. He revealed that he later asked Tyler to accompany him to the Emmy Awards, however, Tyler shut him down.

At the end of the episode, Carmichael and Tyler sat down to talk about the encounters. Tyler told Carmichael that hearing him express his feelings was “a lot to download.” At the time, he wasn’t sure how to respond, and even know, he admits he still doesn’t.

“Getting news like that and then avoiding it is a way to avoid change,” Tyler said. “I didn’t think brushing that off and continuing regularly would be such a dent. I don’t know.”

Tyler did, however, say he holds Carmichael in high regard, despite not having romantic feelings for him.

“That’s like a brother,” he said. “That man’s like family.”

You can see a clip from the show above.
