A graphic scene explicitly showing gang rape in the latest episode of Tyler Perry’s Ruthless has left fans stunned. The scene appeared in Season 4, Episode 13 of the long-running drama about a woman seeking escape from a sexually exploitative religious cult. While the show has often dealt with heavy topics. However, this moment appeared to go beyond the pale for many viewers.

“Tyler Perry is going to hell. He genuinely hates black women. He despises black women. I have no doubt that he spends his time trying to figure out how he can depict harm coming to black women. There is ZERO reason to show that type of violence happening to black women,” one fan on X wrote. Meanwhile, others called or an immediate boycott of Perry’s work. Furthermore, another line of thinking was to link Tyler Perry to Vince McMahon, who was recently accused of sexual assault.

The Kerry Washington-led film, directed by Perry, tells the story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all-Black, all-women overseas battalion during World War Two.

The Six Triple Eight is a deeply overlooked piece of military history, serving as the only predominantly all-Black Women’s Army Corps battalion during the Second World War. However, especially in the wake of the latest episode of Ruthless, many have questioned by Perry is the one directing the project. The irony of a man directing the story about an overlooked part of women’s history has not been lost on many commenters.

Perry said he doesn’t have respect from people and try to educate themselves away from their blackness.

“When I get to those ‘hoity toity’ Negroes who don’t understand [and are] looking down their noses at everything… I marvel at them at how intelligent they are but how they miss the most simple things… marvel at any Black person who wants to remove themselves from their Blackness. There’s this instant thing of ‘let me get away from where I come from, let me get away from the Madeas of my family, and let me educate myself away from my Blackness,. Those people I don’t have respect for.”

Tyler Perry Slams Scrapped BET Network Sale, Says He Won’t Bid Again In The Future

Tyler Perry offered some blunt views of the scrapped sale of BET Network offered by Paramount earlier this year. “I was disappointed about it for a number of reasons. The way it happened was disrespectful in a lot of ways. Don’t try to get me to pay for something that’s not worth anywhere near the value,” Perry said at a recent equality summit in Atlanta. Furthermore, he confirmed he would not be interested if Paramount tried to sell the network in the future. “No. God bless them. I’m still working with them. I wish them the best,” he replied.

Perry had been a major player for the network earlier this year. “I am very interested in taking as much of it as I can,” Perry said in April. Other interested parties included Byron Allen and Diddy. However, Paramount abruptly pulled the sale over the summer, leading to a wave of speculation as to whether the network was ever truly for sale. However, as Perry noted, he still fully intends to work with their parent network, Paramount, for the time being.

LeBron, along with Peyton Manning, is reportedly in talks with the Obamas to produce a new sports docuseries. According to reports, the show will be an NBA version of Netflix’s Quarterback, which followed three quarterbacks in a standard “fly on the wall” format. Manning’s production company helped produce the show for Netflix and now the Hall of Famer is interested in doing the same for the NBA. According to Front Office Sports, the show is reportedly being produced for Netflix.

The show is still in the very early stages of development and likely won’t start production until the 2024 NBA offseason. However, it’s an exciting prospect to hear about at the very least. It will also be interesting to see how the series format is adapted for the NBA as opposed to the NFL.

During a recent appearance on Keep It Positive, Sweetie, Tyler Perry shared his take on splitting bills in relationships. The actor and filmmaker started out the conversation by saying that Black women earn more than Black men in society. From there, he shared that he thinks as long as a man is treating his partner well and contributes what he can, there shouldn’t be a problem if he earns less than she does.

“A lot of women, especially Black women, and I might get in trouble for saying this but I will,” he began. “In our society right now, Black women are making a lot more money, for the most part, than Black men.” Perry continued, “If you can find love, if that man works at whatever job and is a good man, and is good to you, and honors you, and honors the house, and honors his wife, and does what he can… because his gift might not be your gift, that is okay. That’s not somebody that’s beneath you. That’s somebody who came to love you at your worth.”
