YNW Melly Denied Mistrial In Double-Murder Case

YNW Melly is currently going through a very contentious double murder trial. Currently, the rapper is facing double-murder charges for the alleged executions of YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy. These murders took place in 2018, and Melly has been locked up for almost five years at this point. However, the trial is finally taking place, and many are watching it very closely. Although, there have certainly been some confusing twists and turns in just one week of deliberations.

So far, the prosecution has had a difficult time presenting evidence. For instance, the judge denied the use of Snapchat memories. Moreover, they also denied the use of the song “Murder On My Mind.” Additionally, there have been some hostile witnesses who have called out the prosecution for allegedly pressuring them into their testimony. This all subsequently led to a motion for a mistrial on Thursday. Melly’s lead attorney wants the trial thrown out, and over the weekend, Judge Murphy III got to think about a potential decision. According to reporter Bryson “Boom” Paul, that decision was handed down this morning.

YNW Melly Gets Unfavorable Ruling

In the tweet above, Paul confirms that the judge denied the motion for a mistrial. This means Melly will remain on trial for the next couple of weeks. Depending on how the trial progresses, this could take longer than anyone would have expected. Moreover, a juror is currently hospitalized, and Paul reported that Melly’s trial will pick back up again at around 1:30 PM EST. Needless to say, the day hasn’t even begun and the trial is already making headlines.

This is a trial that has had a lot of anticipation around it. Fans have been waiting years to see what would happen, and so far, we know even less about what happened than we did before. Either way, this is a developing story, so stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from around the music world. Also, let us know what you think about all of this, down below.

YNW Melly’s Gained Almost 800K Spotify Monthly Listeners Since Trial Started

The double murder trial of YNW Melly has netted him a lot of extra numbers on streaming platforms. Whether his supporters returned to his music, other tuned in out of morbid interest, or unfamiliar folks just wanted to know who this rapper is, the Florida native’s music got a huge popularity boost. Moreover, his Spotify monthly listeners reportedly went up by 8.2% since his trial started on Monday, June 12. YNW Melly Nabs Hundreds Of Thousands Of New Listeners

In fact, a particular ruling in court might motivate people even more to listen to the 24-year-old’s work guilt-free. Last week, Judge John Murphy III rejected the “Murder On My Mind” music video as proposed evidence in the trial. This is due to, according to the judge, the video not furthering the case’s pursuit of fact in the murders of YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser. However, it would create a bias against YNW Melly due to the video and song’s content, in a way that does not actually prove or pose any relevance to the deaths in question. For this reason, it was denied a place in the courtroom as a part of the prosecution’s argument.

Meanwhile, said attempts at presenting improper evidence in the court’s eyes resulted in the “223’s” MC’s attorney motioning for a mistrial. The defense accused evidence and testimonies of being prejudicial and painting a negative light in a way irrelevant to the charges. As such, the mistrial request will be the main topic discussed when trial resumes tomorrow (Tuesday, June 20). If accepted, that doesn’t make him free just yet, but it does suggest that this will be a much harder case than the state probably thought. YNW Melly’s Mother Sends A Message To Haters: “I Pray For Everyone”

YNW Melly’s mother, Jamie King, has taken to social media to share a message with haters amid her son’s ongoing double-murder trial. “I’m praying extra hard for the weirdos in the back talking about my family for clicks and likes,” she writes. King continues, “I’m the deleting [Instagram] I can’t be crying and making myself upset because of a lying clout chaser who won’t show his face in court but care so much.” She says, “I had 1 heart attack already because of stress I refuse to let this kill me.” Adding, “I try to be peaceful and respectful to all of you. I pray for everyone because I know it’s the right thing to do.”

Melly, as well as YNW Bortlen, are accused of murdering Christopher “Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “Sakchaser” Williams in 2018. The trial began last week, and streams for Melly’s songs like “Murder On My Mind,” “Suicidal,” and more are through the roof. Judge Murphy III recently took Melly’s lead attorney’s request for a mistrial. The trial is now set to resume later this week, on June 20.

Melly’s Mother Speaks Her Mind

Though all four men were said to be friends, Juvy’s father thinks that Melly could have a motive. He says that a money dispute surrounding the sale of the YNW brand could have been a catalyst in this case, further stating that he’s always believed that Melly is guilty.

“From day one, I believed that Melly was responsible for my son’s death on October 26,” he told Law & Crime. He says that Melly’s “demeanor” and “body language” is what has him convinced. “When I finally talked to [Melly] and Cortlen on FaceTime, their response and how they reacted — they showed no remorse. They didn’t act like they was grievin,’ like they lost a best friend or nothin’,” he explained, “in my opinion, they were in the best spirits. They never came to town, never came to my son’s funeral.”

YNW Melly Appears To Try To Leave Courtroom Mid-Trial In Viral Clip

YNW Melly’s trial for double murder had no shortage of noteworthy moments in its first week. Given the easy accessibility of the trial proceedings via livestream and its rapid spread online, many fans reacted in varying degrees to its antics. Some laughed at his attorney’s notebook, others recoiled at him blowing kisses in court, and so on. However, on the fourth and latest session of the trial so far, which took place on Thursday (June 15), one particular moment has fans scratching their heads. In it, the rapper appears to attempt to “escape,” as many have put it, or simply make his way close to an exit of the courtroom.

Of course, this is a prime example of fans reading too deeply into a clip from the court proceedings. What actually happens is that YNW Melly leaves his place and walks around aimlessly, close to one a door that reads “Restricted Area.” Then, a group of security guards halt him before he gets too far and then redirect him to his spot at the table. Still, it made for a pretty comical moment thanks to fan reactions to the video, though other aspects of the trial are no laughing matter.

YNW Melly’s “Attempted Escape,” So Fans Say

For example, the families of the victims in the case, YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser, believed some of YNW Melly’s actions in court to be disrespectful. “He [blew a kiss in the courtroom] a couple of times… that wasn’t his first time,” Leandra Phillips, Juvy’s mother, told NBC 6. “I walked out. What you praying for? You sitting there like you ain’t got no remorse. Like, every time I walk in, you smiling. This ain’t the same for that. This is sad, this case is serious.”

Meanwhile, next week holds some very crucial discussions for this situation, as the 24-year-old’s lead attorney requested a mistrial. It seems like this is based on evidence the state presented that the defense finds to be prejudicial, or rather irrelevant to the facts of the case and instead merely causing negative bias against the defendant. While many believe this to be a surefire sign of the MC’s freedom, it’s not that easy and, even if approved, could still result in a new trial. For the latest updates and news on YNW Melly, check back in with HNHH.

YNW Juvy’s Father Says Money Dispute Could Have Been A Motive For YNW Melly

The father of one of YNW Melly’s alleged victims, YNW Juvy, has shared what he believes to be the motive for Melly’s alleged double-murder. Melly, along with YNW Bortlen, are accused of murdering Christopher “Juvy” Thomas Jr., and Anthony “Sakchaser” Williams in 2018. Christopher Thomas Sr. told Law & Crime that he believes the motive could have been a money dispute involving the YNW brand. According to him, the men were planning to sell YNW for “marketing and licensing.” “Melly was gonna get $200,000, [Sakchaser] was gonna get $200,000, [Juvy] was gonna get $100,000,” he claims. The father believes that Melly wanted a bigger cut of the money than what was agreed upon.

“From day one, I believed that Melly was responsible for my son’s death on October 26,” he also said. He later claims that Melly’s “demeanor” and “body language” has him convinced of his guilt. “When I finally talked to [Melly] and Cortlen on FaceTime, their response and how they reacted — they showed no remorse. They didn’t act like they was grievin,’ like they lost a best friend or nothin’,” he also revealed, “in my opinion, they were in the best spirits. They never came to town, never came to my son’s funeral.”

Father Of Alleged Victim Says He Believed Melly Was Guilty “From Day One”

The alleged victim’s father also noted that, “[Melly’s] defense attorney got him wearin’ turtle necks to hide his neck, ’cause he got ‘Jamell’ tatted on his neck — that’s Sak mom’s name. And he got Chris name and Sak name.” “These are best friends … he couldn’t even stop and pay his condolences to his best friend’s mom,” he explained, “I have no words for that guy.”

Juvy’s father has also previously spoken out against those showing public support to Melly amid the trial. “Y’all are b*tches, man,” he said. He even called out rapper Boosie Badazz for publicly supporting Melly. “Boosie down there supporting Melly — he flaw as f*ck for that,” he said, “He don’t even know that n***a Melly. He talking ’bout, ‘I want Melly free ’cause that n***a bought me snacks and a magazine at the airport.’ What?”

YNW Melly Achieves Small Victories In Trial Over Use Of Evidence

The double murder trial of YNW Melly is looking bleak online for those who want to see the rapper walk away. Moreover, this is because social media clips of his behavior, including blowing kisses and his lawyer’s suggestive notebook, have people thinking that it looks ridiculous. However, none of those aspects actually translate into the court of law, and on the fourth day of his trial on Thursday (June 15), he and his team actually heard some good news. Furthermore, these reports come from Law & Crime Network correspondent Bryson “Boom” Paul, who has been consistently covering this trial with frequent updates via his social media accounts.

“Judge John Murphy III denies the Prosecutor’s use of @Snapchat memories in the next witness testimony due to the presence of a firearm and cash in one of the videos,” the reporter tweeted. “‘Prejudicial,’ he says.” For those unaware, “prejudicial” means that it would be evidence that would cause an inherent bias against the defendant without actually being evidence that contributes to the matters of fact in the case. Another update held similar weight and described the reaction of the family of YNW Juvy, the deceased associate of YNW Melly who he stands accused of murdering. The state also accused him of murdering YNW SakChaser in this trial for double murder. “Juvy’s grandmother says “Damn” as Judge Murphy lll says the music video “Murder on My Mind” will not be used based on prejudice,” Paul relayed via Twitter.

Positive Updates For YNW Melly’s Side Of Murder Trial

Meanwhile, Juvy’s mother recalled how she walked out of the courtroom when the 24-year-old accused murderer blew kisses during session. “He did it a couple of times.. that wasn’t his first time,” Leondra Phillips said, calling his displays “disrespectful. I walked out. What you praying for? You sitting there like you ain’t got no remorse. Like, every time I walk in, you smiling. This ain’t the same for that. This is sad, this case is serious.”

Others have instead stood by the Gifford native’s innocence, with Boosie Badazz showing up in person during proceedings. Another famous rap figure, Lil Durk, declared “Free Melly” via his Instagram page. It remains a murky case, but one that, at least for today, brightened for the rapper and his team. Slowthai Pleads Not Guilty To Two Rape Charges

Slowthai has pleaded not guilty to two charges of rape that date back to 2021. The rapper, whose real name is Tyron Kaymore Frampton made his plea in an Oxford court today. Slowthai appeared with another man called Alex Blake-Walker who is facing similar charges. Both were released on bail with Slowthai’s trial date set for July 1st of next year. In the meantime, Slowthai is likely to continue laying low as he had been for the past few weeks, according to Pitchfork.

It was almost a month ago exactly that Slowthai first appeared in court as a result of the charges. Since the charges were publicized Slowthai was dropped by a number of music festivals. Most notably the UK’s biggest festival Glastonbury dropped him from their line-up. Almost all of the festival dates and tour shows he was scheduled to play have either been delayed or canceled entirely. Slowthai also took to his social media channels to deny all of the allegations and ask that fans wait for all of the facts to come out.

Slowthai released his third album UGLY in March of this year. The album was preceded by two singles “Selfish” and “Feel Good.” It was the rapper’s first new project since his sophomore album in 2020 Tyron. Later that year he teamed up with fellow UK acts Gorillaz and Slaves on the collaborative track “Momentary Bliss” from Gorillaz’ Song Machine, Season One album. The next year he joined the punk rock band Idles for a remix of their fan-favorite track “Model Village.”

Slowthai is also a frequent collaborator of many American rap artists. Last year he scored a feature on Kenny Beats’ debut solo album Louie. He also appeared on the Denzel Curry single “Zatoichi.” The song went on to land on Curry’s Melt My Eyez See Your Future album where it became a fan favorite. It was the second time he collaborated with Curry after the pair initially worked together on their 2019 single “Ps*cho.” Slowthai has also made music with acts like Disclosure, Amine, Brockhampton, A$AP Rocky, and more.

YNW Melly Has A Chance To Win His Case, Kodak Black’s Lawyer Says

All eyes are on YNW Melly’s trial for double murder, which could be the first in the state of Florida in years to result in a death penalty thanks to new state law. Moreover, streams and footage of the trial flooded social media this week as the trial began on Monday (June 12). Amid all the commotion, many wonder what the outcome of the trial will be, especially given the Gifford rapper’s antics throughout. However, this also came with legal advice thrown into the ring from Bradford Cohen, attorney for Kodak Black who offered his insight into the case. From what Cohen stated, this will be a tough case, which is in contrast to what many assumed when watching footage.

“Day 2 is coming up on the YNW Melly case,” the lawyer wrote on Instagram earlier in the week. “The first few days of trial are not that interesting in regards to a story or the real meat of the case… This case is going to be very technical with phones and date etc. But again, they can’t say someone else didn’t get in the car or someone else did the shooting. I think the case has built in reasonable doubt, and I saw a lot of the discovery while I was on the case. Like I said, this will be a tough case for the prosecution.”

Kodak Black’s Lawyer Speaks On YNW Melly Case

Now we’re at day four, and Bradford Cohen continuously commented on the trial’s development on his social media if anyone is interested. Still, he’s one of many voices chiming in, so there is no shortage of that. For those unaware, Cohen currently represents Kodak Black on drug-related charges. Surely his insights could evolve and shift as the trial goes on, but it’s important to consider that no one but those in the courtroom will really know the nature of this case.

Regardless, as the attorney stated, the “223’s” MC has a long path ahead of him when it comes to his murder case. It’s unclear how long the trial will last, but its opening days have a lot of footage without a lot of case development itself. As such, those interested in its outcome will have to be patient and understand that it could take a long time for the public to understand what allegedly went down. YNW Melly Gets Huge Streaming Boost During Trial

The double murder trial of YNW Melly, who stands accused of killing his associates YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser, has the whole world watching. His rise to fame surged rapidly thanks to a few hit singles, which raked up a whole lot of streams thanks to this case’s high-profile nature. On Spotify alone, his biggest hits “Murder On My Mind,” “Suicidal,” “223’s” featuring 9lokknine, and “Mixed Personalities” featuring Kanye West garnered over 1,250,000 streams alone within 24 hours of court being in session, according to streaming data website kworb.net. The trial began on Monday (June 12) with opening statements, and in just two days we’ve seen many notable developments ahead of its next.

In total, the website data indicates that YNW Melly raked up over 2.6 million Spotify streams alone within that timeframe. It hasn’t been updated since, but we can assume that numbers have only continued to rise since then with impressive numbers. Given that he’s literally fighting for his life, with the possibility of the death penalty pursued by prosecutors in the jury’s hands, streams might only rise as the trial goes on. With prayers in the courtroom and displays of emotion, both positive and negative, many are morbidly captivated by the case. Another interesting element to this trial concerns another famous rapper. None other than Boosie Badazz went to court to show his support for YNW Melly on both days of the trial so far. While it’s unclear whether he will attend its third on Wednesday (June 14), it’s a divisive appearance. This is because the father of YNW Juvy blasted the Baton Rouge MC for showing up to trial.

“Y’all are b***hes, man,” Juvy’s father expressed. “Boosie down there supporting Melly- he flaw as f**k for that. He don’t even know that n***a Melly. He talking ’bout, ‘I want Melly free ’cause that n***a bought me snacks and a magazine at the airport.’ What? Man, go to Marlo Mike’s trial, n***a. F**k you at this n***a trial? Marlo Mike in that b***h fighting for his life, n***a. You got that man staying up the road doing all that God damn time, but you in there for Melly.” Furthermore, he told Boosie to go back home and leave their family in peace. Lil Durk has voiced his support for YNW Melly amid the rapper’s ongoing double murder trial. In a post on his Instagram Story, Tuesday, Durk shared a picture of Melly in the courtroom with the caption, “Free @YNWMelly.” The two rappers have previously collaborated with Lil Baby on the 2021 track, “Take Kare.”

Melly’s double murder trial kicked off on Monday, after the rapper spent the last four years in jail. If found guilty of first-degree murder, Melly may end up facing the death penalty.

Melly’s attorney David A. Howard used the lack of a motive presented by both police and prosecutors as a key part of his defense in his opening statement. “Do you know what does require motive?” he asked rhetorically. “A young man to wake up one day and decide that he’s going to kill two of his best friends – best friends that he grew up with; best friends that he hangs out with; best friends who he lives with; best friends whose careers he was trying to launch alongside his own. They have no reason for why he would do this because there is no reason. And if there’s no reason, it doesn’t make sense.”

Howard continued: “And, if after four years of investigation, the state comes and says, ‘Hey, he killed two of his best friends.’ And you’re wondering why, and their answer is, ‘Uh, I dunno.’ That’s the first indication that they’re just guessing and don’t know what they’re talking about.” He also cited an Instagram user who posted about committing the murders afterward.
