Young Thug & Gunna Timeline: YSL Records, RICO Case & Beef

Jeffery Williams and Sergio Kitchens quickly became one of the hottest rap duos not just out of Atlanta, but across the whole genre in the late 2010s. As Young Thug and Gunna, respectively, they cranked out hit after hit, with the former’s influence on the latter and their personal friendship resulting in undeniable chemistry. Despite a lot of legal roadblocks, challenges, and conflicts, the main public narrative maintained an air of support and brotherhood between them. So why do folks think – or perhaps know – that the “Hot” collaborators are now beefing with each other?

As you may imagine, the YSL RICO case threw a huge wrench into their relationship, especially following Gunna’s plea deal almost two years ago. Snitching narratives ensued, defenses emerged, and Young Thug was all quiet about the whole ordeal… Until now, allegedly. With all this in mind, we’re here to break down the history of their bond, their eventual success as label-bound collaborators, and their actions and developments during and after their stints in the YSL RICO trial that caused such public disarray with fans. While their relationship is still up in the air without a full-blown (and not deleted) statement from both sides, things don’t look too promising for any advocates for their unity. How did this happen?

They Met In 2015

Gunna first met in Young Thug in 2015 through mutual friend and community leader Keith “King” Troup. Wunna went to Thugger’s “With That” music video shoot for his Barter 6 project in the south side of Atlanta in 2015, and from there, they formed a close friendship that eventually evolved into a collaborative relationship. Troup sadly passed away in December 2015, something that the “Sold Out Dates” rapper says strengthened his familial bond with his “Halftime” mentor.

August 26, 2016: Young Thug Introduces Gunna To The World

On August 26, 2016, Young Thug released his beloved mixtape JEFFERY, which featured superstar rappers like Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, and more. But this also became Gunna’s first introduction to a massive audience following an earlier mixtape under a different artist name from 2013. He appeared on the track “Floyd Mayweather” alongside La Flame and Guwop.

October 14, 2016: Drip Season & YSL Records Launch

The official connections for these next two events are a bit confusing, but here’s what we can gather. On October 14, 2016, Gunna released his debut mixtape under this artist name, Drip Season, and featured Young Thug on the track “Cop Me A Foreign.” This mixtape was released under YSL Records, which Thugger would officially announce as his new record label just a few weeks later on November 15. Furthermore, this social media announcement explained it as an imprint of 300 Entertainment. While it seems odd to have a project come out under a label that its founder announced weeks later, we presume that they still had some paperwork to sort out concerning these official launches that wouldn’t have impacted Drip Season‘s release.

February 2017: Wunna Is Officially YSL

We told you this timeline is a tad confusing, didn’t we? Around February 2017, Young Thug and YSL Records officially announced that they signed Gunna to the imprint. Looking back, it’s unclear whether or not this was already public knowledge given Drip Season and the JEFFERY feature, but regardless, this is when things were set in stone for good. Also, the details of this record deal and how they relate to his subsequent release schedule are unclear when it comes to financial agreements, rights, number and nature of releases, etc. Nevertheless, the College Park native went into full gear with various albums and mixtapes under the label, including Drip Season 2 that year, Drip Harder with Lil Baby in 2018, 2020’s WUNNA, and 2022’s DS4EVER. And of course, Thug’s featured on all of them.

May 9, 2022: The YSL RICO Indictment

This is when the tale of Young Thug and Gunna takes a turn for the worse. On May 9, 2022, federal authorities indicted them along with 26 other YSL affiliates in a sprawling RICO case alleging various furtherances of criminal activity. Police arrested Thugger that same day, who faced the brunt of the charges as the purported leader of the supposed “gang.” On the other hand, Wunna turned himself in to authorities two days later on May 11. He faced a single count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). The court denied both of them bond on several occasions as the rap world reacted to this shocking and stake-heavy move by prosecutors.

December 14, 2022: Gunna Takes A Plea Deal

Then, Gunna’s career took its most significant turn since its inception. On December 14, 2022, he took an Alford plea deal in the Young Thug and YSL RICO trial, which means that he pleaded guilty to his count of conspiracy to violate the RICO act while maintaining his claim of innocence. Authorities released him from prison the very same day. The Drip Or Drown spitter then put out a statement denying any sort of testimony, cooperation, interview, or other processes that would make him a “snitch,” as allegations about that behavior quickly emerged from the hip-hop world and beyond.

However, court footage shows that Gunna answered “Yes” to a couple of key questions while accepting his plea deal in the Young Thug and YSL RICO case. He affirmed that YSL is both a record label and allegedly a gang, that he had knowledge of crimes allegedly committed by its affiliates, that guns and drugs found by police during a search on a car that he was in along with Young Thug were not his, that YSL is allegedly a gang that must end, and that he furthered the alleged crimes of the collective through his music.

June 16, 2023: Wunna Drops, And Young Thug Follows

About six months after Gunna’s plea deal, he dropped his comeback album a Gift & a Curse via YSL Records with no features on June 16, 2024. The album continues to speak on the YSL RICO case and against allegedly false snitching allegations, which some rappers like Lil Durk and Lil Baby seemingly espoused through subliminal lyrics. That’s in addition to the broader conversation labeling him as a “snitch.” The LP was a commercial success and held hit singles like “fukumean.” A week later on June 23, Young Thug dropped an album of his own, BUSINESS IN BUSINESS, while still in jail on RICO charges.

It’s important to note that neither Gunna nor Young Thug featured on each other’s projects from this year. In addition, while Thugger remained silent on his relationship with Wunna, his “DOLLAZ ON MY HEAD” collaborator has remained publicly supportive of Thug and YSL ever since his plea deal. This came amid unconfirmed and seemingly misguided rumors that Wunna wanted to leave YSL Records, plus the discussion around the snitching allegations that the hip-hop community and beyond engaged in.

May 10, 2024: One Of Wun

Amid Young Thug’s trial in the YSL RICO case, Gunna dropped yet another album on May 10, 2024. One Of Wun featured artists like Offset and Roddy Ricch, and some fans speculated that some of its lyrics responded to rappers calling him a “snitch.” The new record was released via YSL Records once more.

June 24, 2024: Gunna Is Still On YSL Records

As if the little text under an album on Spotify wasn’t enough, Gunna clarified his presence on Young Thug’s YSL Records via a video interview with the streaming platform’s RapCaviar playlist division, published on June 24, 2024 amid his tour. “I’m still signed to YSL,” he shared outside of his mother’s house. “I’m still providing. We’re still pushing. No paperwork has been changed, you know what I’m saying? So it’s like, whatever’s been getting and how we’ve been pushing this s**t, it’s still going.”

August 4, 2024: YSL Co-Founder Defends Wunna

Via an Instagram Story post on August 4, 2024, YSL cofounder YSL Mondo retracted his previous claims that Gunna was a “snitch.” This was the latest defense of Wunna against the snitching allegations in his direction by key collective members before Young Thug’s release. For example, Thug’s father Jeffery Williams Sr. publicly expressed his support for him on multiple occasions, even popping out for one of his concerts and asking other rappers to stop speaking about him and the snitching allegations.

October 31, 2024: Young Thug Is Free

As a Halloween treat, fans learned that they might finally find an answer to the Young Thug and Gunna rumors. On October 31, 2024, Thugger entered a plea deal in the YSL RICO case that resulted in his freedom that very same day, with 15 years of probation to follow. As part of his release conditions, he and his lawyer Brian Steel asked if he could maintain his working relationships with Wunna and with Thug’s biological brother Unfoonk, who was also a codefendant in the YSL RICO case. This was because one of the probation guidelines barred contact with YSL affiliates, but Judge Paige Reese Whitaker approved both exceptions. In the “bread & butter” artist’s case, it was due to his contractual obligation to YSL Records.

November 9, 2024: Thugger Fans The Flames Of The Feud

Finally, we arrive at our current juncture and the most solid piece of “evidence” supporting Young Thug and Gunna’s beef. On November 9, 2024, the former tweeted and then quickly deleted the following message toward the latter: “Stop acting like we friends on the internet, I don’t know u my guy.” This followed some other curious social media messages from Thugger about collaborating with Lil Baby (a previous supposed Wunna critic) to “drop one on these rats.” Given the deletion of the tweet and its emergence so soon after his release from prison, many fans speculated that someone hacked his Twitter account to cause false division.

No matter whether Young Thug intended to publish this tweet shading Gunna or not, the message seems to have stuck. Wunna’s brother reportedly responded to this deleted tweet with the following message: “Trust and believe the feeling is mutual [blue P emoji].” Until we get a clear and direct statement from both rappers, it seems like this iconic rap camaraderie is over… For now.

Where Has Drake Been Since “The Heart Part 6”?

I don’t want to diss you anymore,” Drake decried as his white-flag-waving moment on his final Kendrick Lamar diss, “The Heart Part 6.” Their battle was an intense and overwhelming one that fans haven’t even slightly stopped debating over. Ever since that song signaled the end of the back-and-forth, though, hip-hop culture has spent countless hours theorizing about what the Toronto superstar will do next. Thanks to some recent new activity and a potential second chapter to this saga on the way, we wanted to look back at how we got here.

Furthermore, here’s every important update you need to know about what Drake did, experienced, expressed, and allegedly took action about following the end of the Kendrick Lamar battle. Whether it’s new musical material, shady messages, unfortunate developments, rumored decisions, or accusations regarding his questionable movement, there’s a lot to get into. It seems like the 6ix God is building up towards something big in this aftermath. So let’s see if this history can help us guess as to what will come next.

The Embassy Shooting & Trespassers (May 7-9, 2024)

The Kendrick Lamar battle’s epilogue started on its worst foot to date. Unidentified suspects shot at Drake’s mansion, also known as The Embassy, in the wee hours of May 7, just two days after “The Heart Part 6” released. One of his security guards was struck in the attack and recovered in the hospital, and we never got confirmation that he was in his home when it happened. Over the next two days, authorities also apprehended two trespassers on the property in separate incidents. Despite speculation, authorities have not found any evidence that this connects to the Kendrick Lamar battle in any way at press time.

Drake Re-Lists Beverly Hills Mansion (Sometime In May 2024, Hit News Cycle On May 10)

During the aforementioned security breaches at The Embassy, news broke that Drake re-listed his Beverly Hills mansion for $88 million. News reports on this matter suggest that this occurred the week before May 10. As you’ll see below, this was not the only significant property update concerning Drizzy during this beef’s aftermath.

The Embassy’s Third Trespasser (May 11, 2024)

The Embassy faced a third trespasser on its property in almost as many days. Guards tackled a man who reportedly didn’t cause too much trouble, and at press time, the specific details around this unprompted visit remain unknown. For that matter, the same goes for the other trespassing incidents that Drake suffered.

Drake Officially Exits The Battle (May 12, 2024)

Via his Instagram Story, Drake let his fans know that he was officially done with his feud with Kendrick Lamar and company. “Good times. Summer vibes up next,” he captioned a picture of a lone samurai facing a massive army. Let’s see what else these summer vibes consisted of for Aubrey Graham in the months that followed.

Drake’s First Post-Beef Public Appearance With Toronto’s New WNBA Team (May 23, 2024)

For the first time since the battle ended, Drake popped out in public to celebrate his home city of Toronto finally getting a WNBA team. He attended a press conference at a downtown hotel in the 6ix, which also hosted Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The team will reportedly begin to play in the league in 2026.

“U My Everything” With Sexyy Red (May 24, 2024)

Drake’s first post-beef musical release was on Sexyy Red’s “U My Everything” from her In Sexyy We Trust project. Most notably, it featured him rapping over the “BBL Drizzy” diss beat Metro Boomin produced to spite him. This was the first of at least a couple of instances of a narrative spin dividing fans, disagreeing over whether or not this was a compelling and flex-worthy move or a corny attempt at an Eminem 8 Mile moment, instead.

Confirmation Of $15 Million Texas Move-In (May 24, 2024)

Drake had previously announced that he finally found a house in one of his second homes in the United States: Texas. In May, we officially got confirmation that he purchased a $15 million ranch in the state. The 37-year-old even seemed to film a music video there, which may have ended up becoming the footage for his Latto collab that landed later in the summer.

Drake Pops Out At 21 Savage’s Toronto Show (May 27, 2024)

Drake’s first concert appearance after the Kendrick Lamar battle was at 21 Savage’s Toronto tour stop for his American Dream trek. There, he proclaimed that his Her Loss partner owns the 6ix, welcoming him as one of their own. Throughout this post-beef tale, 21 is definitely one of The Boy’s most firm supporters in the rap game.

“Wah Gwan Delilah” With Snowd4y (June 3)

One of Drake’s most divisive and clowned-upon musical releases this summer was this cut with Toronto content creator Snowd4y. As you can see by its title, it’s a cover of the Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah” with some slang flips and intense auto-tuning. For some, it’s the silliest and most cringe-worthy thing you’ve heard this year but you can’t deny that we all needed a laugh and something more lightly cheeky. Whether that laughter is with him or at him is up to you.

Drake Becomes The First Artist To Surpass 100 Billion Spotify Streams (June 18, 2024)

Drake continued to be one of the most dominant artists in the music industry despite Kendrick Lamar’s victory. But did anyone really expect him not to be? It was no surprise when the OVO mogul became the first artist in Spotify history to garner over 100 billion streams across all credits. Kendrick may have the streaming crown when it comes to their diss tracks, but there’s a whole catalog of hits that are miles ahead.

“HOT UPTOWN” & “Uuugly” With Camila Cabello (June 28, 2024)

After many teases and even a supposed release push-back due to the feud, Drake and Camila Cabello finally showed off their chemistry… Or half of it. “HOT UPTOWN” is a bouncy duet, but “Uuugly” is his solo interlude off of her new album C,XOXO. Fans got the “summer vibes” they were promised, and as you’ll read further down, there was even more on the way.

Drake Seems To Cosign Rick Ross Vancouver Attack (June 30, 2024)

One of the most controversial post-beef moments occurred when Rick Ross played “Not Like Us” at a Vancouver festival, prompting Drake fans to confront him about it. He dismissed them, resulting in a brawl between both entourages. Much to the dismay or approval of many hip-hop figures and other commentators, Rozay’s former collaborator liked a post on Instagram about the incident, insinuating that he was happy to see him face the consequences of playing around with his name in his country.

Michael Rubin’s White Party (July 4, 2024)

The day that Kendrick Lamar dropped the “Not Like Us” music video, Drake was too busy partying with a whole lot of celebrities. Many folks debated whether or not he looked defeated and aged when pictures from the bash emerged. Nevertheless, it was probably a welcome break from all the drama. Rubin would later go on to reveal some details about the event, including his decision to ban Kendrick’s aforementioned West Coast banger from playing.

“Rap Is A Joke” (July 13, 2024)

We haven’t talked about them for the most part, but Drake had a lot of social media posts possibly referring to the beef in its aftermath. Among the most controversial was a picture of him wearing a shirt that read “Rap Is A Joke.” Whether this was an intentional message or just a shoutout to that brand, fans still thought that they were questionable words from a rap beef loser.

The Embassy Faces A Flood (July 16, 2024)

If you needed proof that Kendrick Lamar and Drake fans alike turned every little irrelevant thing into a discussion about the battle, look no further than this. When The Embassy flooded due to a torrential storm, the hate and love flowed almost as quickly as the muddy water crept through his doors and windows. We don’t really know the extent of the damage that this caused, but it was still a textbook hater moment on fans’ behalf during this battle’s aftermath.

ScHoolboy Q Accuses Drake Of Shutting Down His Toronto Show (July 17, 2024)

ScHoolboy Q caused an uproar online after claiming that Drake was partially but nonetheless directly responsible for his canceled show in Toronto. For what it’s worth, Roddy Ricch spoke on not being allowed back into Canada weeks before, and SiR also had his show canceled in the city weeks after. While Q was the only one to accuse OVO directly, none of these accusations or incidents actually link back to that camp at press time. Perhaps we will never know what caused these travel issues.

One of Drake’s biggest hip-hop supporters during and after his beef is 50 Cent. They linked up to party in Toronto over the summer after Fif’s various praises of Champagne Papi’s beef performance. The G-Unit mogul even teased that they would work together on something, which led many fans to blast 50 for betraying Kendrick Lamar in their eyes, as they’re both a part of Dr. Dre’s music career family tree.

Kai Cenat Leaks Lil Yachty Collab “Supersoak” (July 23, 2024)

At Lil Yachty’s request, Kai Cenat premiered an unreleased collaboration between the Let’s Start Here artist and Drake titled “Supersoak.” Yachty would go on to explain why the team-up would probably never come out, and his brief unfollow of his “Another Late Night” partner’s IG account made many fans think that they have some beef of their own going on. Although that’s probably an unlikely and misinterpreted possibility. For those unaware, the Concrete Boy had spoken on the Kendrick Lamar beef and sparked much criticism from OVO Stans as a result. Also, as we will find out later, it seems like “Supersoak” no longer features the Atlanta creative, making this leak and the subsequent narrative quite hard to get a grasp on.

“Sideways” & “Healing” With Gordo (July 26, 2024)

Drake’s next musical release comprised of two tracks on producer Gordo’s (formerly Carnage) album DIAMANTE. They recall some of the work that they did together on 2022’s Honestly, Nevermind, engaging in some breezy house sounds and gentle vocal melodies. More summer vibes had arrived, and fans were quite appreciative of the results.

Ebro Claims Conductor Williams Collab Album Is On The Way (July 31, 2024)

Ebro In The Morning held some very interesting claims, with its titular host and Peter Rosenberg hinting at Drake’s next move. Apparently, he has an album with Conductor Williams on the way, although the “Wick Man” artist himself never confirmed this or hinted at it. They previously collaborated on the fan-favorite “8AM In Charlotte.”

PARTYNEXTDOOR Collab Album Announcement At PND’s Toronto Show (August 2, 2024)

However, one collab album that Drake did announce was a PARTYNEXTDOOR team-up. They revealed the news at PND’s Toronto show, which means that many OVO die-hards’ dreams will come true very soon. The 6ix God suggested that it will come out when it’s colder outside, so maybe it will come out this fall, winter, or early in 2025. We will see.

Mustard Claims Drake & Gordo Tried To Sabotage His Album (August 4, 2024)

When Mustard dropped his Faith Of A Mustard Seed album, Drake fans clowned his relatively low sales. But the West Coast producer behind “Not Like Us” thinks that the Toronto lyricist told Gordo to drop his album on the same day to negatively affect these numbers. Ironically, DIAMANTE sold less than FOAMS, so this is just speculative animosity.

“100 GIGS” Wave No. 1: Website Launch (August 6, 2024)

Arguably Drake’s biggest move since the Kendrick Lamar battle was his massive “100 GIGS” content drop via his Instagram and a new website. This included three IG-only loosies, old footage, alternate album covers, merch designs, and a whole lot more. As far as the footage itself, a lot of it showed the songwriting and recording process behind unreleased or beloved tracks, behind-the-scenes concert footage, and casual vlog clips from The Boy’s earlier days. This lent extra context to some of his big hits, showed off his personable interactions with industry peers, highlighted his team’s roles, and captivated fans with its access into his world.

Snoh Accusations Of Revenge Porn Surface (August 9, 2024)

Around this time, though, some very concerning accusations regarding Drake surfaced. His association with (and praise and support of) Kick streamer Snoh caused many fans to raise their eyebrows since she faces accusations of coercing minors into exposing themselves and recording revenge porn. Given all the harrowing claims that became massive angles in the Kendrick Lamar battle, this is among the more concerning Aubrey updates in the feud’s aftermath.

“100 GIGS” Wave No. 1: Three-Pack Hits DSPs (August 10, 2024)

After a lot of social media hype, Drake’s 100 GIGS cuts finally made it onto streaming: a Latto collab, a solo cut, and a Young Thug and 21 Savage team-up. They landed at 85, 63, and 28 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100, and held at least a few bars that fans thought hinted towards more leftover disses against his many rap rivals. As you’ll read very soon, this became even more apparent thanks to what came out a couple of weeks later…

Fuerza Regida Member Claims Drake Is Starting A New Record Label (Hit News Cycles Around August 12, Interview Published July 18, 2024)

In mid-August, Drake fans looked back at Bootleg Kev’s interview with Jesús Ortíz Paz of Fuerza Regida and found some very interesting claims. Paz, also known as JOP, claimed that the 6ix God started a new record label called PFL in collaboration with the Mexican group’s label and Chino Pacas. Perhaps we will hear The Boy over some corridos soon.

“Buffalo Freestyle” With Benny The Butcher Drops & Disappears (August 23)

In other music-related news, Benny The Butcher finally dropped his long-awaited Drake collab “Buffalo Freestyle” on his Buffalo Butch, Vol. 1 EP. However, the track disappeared from streaming services very quickly, seemingly due to a UMG copyright strike. As such, it seems like the Griselda affiliate was right in once assuming that it would never see the light of day, although we don’t know the reason why at press time.

“100 GIGS” Wave No. 2 (August 23)

Drake updated “100 GIGS” in even more dramatic fashion, with another new three-pack (including the aforementioned and Lil Yachty-less “Supersoak”) and loads of new content. Some of these new clips, such as Kanye West at OVO Fest 2013 and J. Cole buying Born Sinner CDs with his “First Person Shooter” partner, were already in the public discourse. Most importantly, these new tracks – including a Playboi Carti collab – contained even more obvious and pointed “sumbiminals” against the many rappers that formed part of 2024’s rap feud.

Drake Claims He Will “Win Game 2” In Beef With Kendrick Lamar & Co. (August 25)

Most recently, Drake posted a video of Rasheed Wallace saying that his team will “win Game 2,” sending fans into a frenzy at the thought of another battle with Kendrick Lamar and company. While he deleted this IG Story soon after, the message was clear. We still don’t know exactly how specific Drake wants to go, or what “100 GIGS” could lead up to. But one thing is clear: he doesn’t just want to stick around. Champagne Papi wants to dominate the conversation and make his connections to the entire rap world very clear. To see what else comes in this boastful timeline, stick around on HNHH.

Wu-Tang Clan “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin” Timeline: What Happened & What’s Next?

On a trip to Egypt in 2004, the RZA first ideated a new Wu-Tang Clan album that would deservedly treat music as high art, not as a commodity to create and distribute quickly and on a dime. By the time the LP Once Upon A Time In Shaolin “came out” in 2015, following almost a decade of studio sessions with the whole Wu, the project became a more pertinent experiment and statement amid streaming’s rising devaluation of music. He and producer Cilvaringz worked heavily on recreating that gritty sound from the 36 Chambers days, compiling verses from every surviving member of the rap group plus some extra names like Redman and Cher.

So when 2015 rolled around, and the album released as a unique physical copy with no digital equivalent, the idea was to tour it around museums, listening events, and the like before landing on a single buyer. Wu-Tang Clan members like Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and Raekwon all voiced their grievances over remaining in the dark on this release strategy. Despite the internal conflicts of the group, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin stuck to this approach, and its legacy continues to champion this idea, albeit in an altered manner, to this day. But it definitely went through many obstacles to find itself in 2024, and will likely face more. But where did this all start?

Once Upon A Time In Shaolin‘s Original Sale Plan

Once Upon A Time In Shaolin entered the steep marketplace with some legal stipulations: its eventual owner would not be able to release or profit off of the album until 2103, 88 years after its release. About 150 art aficionados, critics, and art dealers heard the album at a MoMA listening session in 2015, and auction house Paddle8 searched for a buyer. This was more of a compromise when compared to the original vision for this Wu-Tang Clan album to tour the world in a briefcase. Alas, they eventually found the project’s buyer, which opened up a notorious can of worms.

Martin Shkreli Buys The Wu-Tang Clan’s Album In 2015

In 2015, hedge fund head and infamous “pharma bro” Martin Shkreli bought the album at an auction for $2 million. This wasn’t just controversial based on the presumptuous image that he represented as Once Upon A Time In Shaolin‘s owner, but also because of his actions elsewhere. A big narrative around this sale was that Shkreli had raised the price of the anti-parasitic drug Daraprim, for AIDS treatment among other uses, by 5,000%. He promised to leak the album if Donald Trump became U.S. President in 2016, yet upon his election, he only played some snippets here and there and shared them online across various platforms. Shkreli also boasted about playing the album for partners and colleagues, and this obviously caused a stir in the Wu-Tang Clan camp.

How Did The Wu Respond To Shkreli?

The RZA claimed ignorance of Martin Shkreli’s moves to raise Daraprim’s price before they finalized the purchase. In fact, the group apparently donated much of the proceeds behind the sale to charities supporting cancer treatment and other medical efforts to circumvent high pharmaceutical costs. While he defended Shkreli’s right to purchase the album as a hip-hop fan and appreciator of art, others weren’t so keen. Ghostface Killah got into it with the “pharma bro,” resulting in some back-and-forth diss videos in which Shkreli played more of the album. Method Man also spoke on feeling blindsided and at odds with Once Upon A Time In Shaolin in 2017, and others like Raekwon spoke of their differences in the years since.

Martin Shkreli Goes Down

In 2017, a court convicted Martin Shkreli on federal charges involving security fraud, and while he tried to sell the album on eBay before his imprisonment and 2018 sentencing to seven years, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin became one of the assets that the court seized as part of a $7.3 million forfeit. The Wu-Tang Clan’s album fell into the hands of the U.S. government, and Ghostface Killah and Raekwon were among those who blasted Shkreli after this arrest. But the question of what would happen to the album remained a mystery… until 2021.

Pleasr Takes Over

In July 2021, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the sale of Once Upon A Time In Shaolin in its continued asset seizure of Shkreli. The buyer was later revealed as NFT company PleasrDAO, who bought the Wu-Tang Clan project for $4 million. This doubled its value but still left its future as an uncertain sea of speculation.

Pleasr’s Lawsuit Against Martin Shkreli

On June 10, 2024, PleasrDAO filed a lawsuit in Brooklyn federal court against Martin Shkreli for allegedly playing unauthorized copies of Once Upon A Time In Shaolin since 2021 that breached the terms of his forfeiture order. Not only that, but the company claimed that he boasted about this practice on social media. Shkreli blasted this lawsuit attempt online, calling PleasrDAO “super nerds” that displayed a “lack of diligence” in their arguments.

Once Upon A Time In Shaolin Is Slowly Becoming A Reality… Right?

Apparently, this did not halt Pleasr’s efforts to get the album out to the public little by little… and on their terms. Earlier this June, New York City’s oldest synagogue held a listening event for bits of the album (not in its entirety), and the company announced that the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania would host 30-minute listening events playing select Once Upon A Time In Shaolin cuts twice daily as part of its “Namedropping” exhibition, running from June 15 to June 24. Not only that, but they also reportedly launched five-minute snippets from the Wu-Tang Clan album as NFTs, as part of a reported agreement to “unlock” the album by speeding up the timeline until October 8, 2103 by 88 seconds with each purchase. Will it generate the $28 million necessary to put all the pieces together? Time will tell…

Young Thug & Mariah The Scientist Relationship Timeline

Young Thug is currently behind bars for the YSL RICO case, a circumstance that’s shrouded the phrase “cuffing season” in a dark cloud for him. But his flame Mariah The Scientist is dedicated and loving, even if their physical distance leaves a void impossible to fill. Still, many folks online have a lot of questions about their relationship. How and when did they get together, what’s their current status, and who on Earth decided to leak a video of their prison phone call?! As it turns out, this couple endured rough patches of past, long-lasting romances, a massive wrench into their time together, but currently stand with heads held high -– and holding on tight to each other’s hands.

November 2021: First Pics

Mariah The Scientist and Young Thug presumably began dating sometime around November 2021, when Young Stoner Life posted pictures on Instagram of them cozying up. Moreover, this came after December 2020 developments concerning Thugger’s ex-fiancée Jerrika Karlae, on and off since 2015, who then accused him of abuse. However, in an HNHH interview in August 2021, she stated that they were in a great place, so either Mariah popped up very soon after this or she spoke from more of a friendship standpoint. Regardless, Karlae seemed to respond indifferently to this new romance rumor with the R&B singer, indicating that it didn’t really bother her. Then, in late 2021 and early 2022 respectively, Thugger and The Scientist went on a date at an Atlanta Falcons game and appeared as a bride and groom in her music video for “Walked In,” further fueling the fire.

August 2022: Young Thug’s Arrest, Mariah The Scientist Makes It Official

Furthermore, things became more official in August 2022 after Young Thug’s arrest in May, and after he set up a loving balloon and gift set-up for Mariah The Scientist from behind bars, which she shared on social media. Again, Karlae didn’t bat an eye, and her comments on his prison stint indicate that she’s as supportive and caring as ever. Mariah popped out for Thugger’s birthday to return the favor, clapped back at people trying to cause beef between the three, and she and Thug thirsted for each other via some social media comments.

Aug.-Nov. 2023: “Baby Daddy” Rumors & New Releases

Things got even more set in stone when Mariah The Scientist declared the Atlanta trap sensation her “baby daddy” during a festival set in August of last year. We now know that “daddy” might just be a nickname, and not a pregnancy confirmation or anything like that. That aside, she continued to advocate for his freedom and double down on her support and their relationship, shedding light on what he’s going through while locked up. Young Thug appeared in the 26-year-old’s music video for “From A Woman,” and he released the companion single “From A Man.” The former appeared on her album To Be Eaten Alive in October 2023.

Meanwhile, coinciding with this release, Mariah The Scientist opened up more about their relationship and his incarceration. “It’s almost like jail solidified our relationship,” she expressed on Way Up With Angela Yee. “I’m willing to wait it out because I feel like he’s the one. If I didn’t really see that in him, I probably wouldn’t.” Apparently, they see themselves as a married couple soon after he is free, which is a wholesome goal to maintain amid strife.

January 2024: YSL RICO Trial & Pooh Shiesty Shade

In addition, Mariah also attended Young Thug’s trial on various days, and the two reportedly talk every day plus a weekly visit. One of these visits is the conversation that someone leaked online, which prompted a lot of backlash from regular social media users and superstars like Drake.

Folks also thought that Pooh Shiesty shaded them with a recent Instagram development in 2024, although he dismissed this interpretation. With all this in mind, all we can hope for is that they continue to support each other through this, whether it’s their careers, their personal lives, or their relationship. But what do you think about Young Thug and Mariah The Scientist’s connection now that you know the full story so far? Drop your thoughts in the comments below and stay posted on HNHH for more timeline breakdowns and to stay up to date on all things hip-hop.

Lupe Fiasco & Kid Cudi Beef: Unpacking Their Feud

Over the course of almost ten years, Kid Cudi and Lupe Fiasco have kept up one of the oddest and seemingly pettiest hip-hop beefs in recent memory. Its origins center around a near-encounter at a BAPE store over fifteen years ago and a debacle over Fiasco allegedly exploiting his fans for quick money through expensive per-request verses. However, they admire and praise each other’s work and companionship through Lupe’s early support of Cudi and his personal struggles. This long-running tale of rivalry is that of avoidance, principle, and the importance of a one-on-one conversation. First, let’s start in 2008, back when Mr. Rager was just Scott Mescudi, a BAPE store employee.

One day, the Chicago lyricist arrived, and Kid Cudi went downstairs to avoid him until he left, which he said was because he didn’t want any famous rappers seeing him at his job because, he felt that when he would eventually get famous, they might bring up this past against him in future beef. What’s ironic is that Lupe Fiasco ended up feuding with him anyway for unrelated reasons. Regardless, the Cleveland native thanked Lupe for his support in a 2010 Complex cover story. “There’s one artist in this game who has always had my back and had nothing but love to show, and that’s Lupe Fiasco,” Cudder remarked. “Every time I see that man, it’s nothing but love. I saw him a little after it, and he was like, ‘I’m worried about you, man, just checking in.’ He’s somebody who I know really genuinely gives a f**k.”

How Did This Beef Start?

Kid Cudi Lupe Fiasco Beef Timeline Hip Hop News

Their beef really began in August 2014, when Kid Cudi questioned Lupe Fiasco’s financial decision to charge fans $500 for a personalized verse. The DRILL MUSIC IN ZION legend felt blindsided by his colleague and friend and clapped back by referencing Cudi’s own expensive fashion collaborations. In January 2015, they battled again over Azealia Banks’ comments that Lupe and other artists (including Kendrick Lamar) seemed to blame the Black community for the death of Mike Brown.

Since then, Lupe Fiasco proceeded to repeatedly call Kid Cudi out for switching up on him and refusing to make amends or confront him about the situation. During a November 2015 show, Lupe threatened to fight Cudi and said he wouldn’t hold a grudge against him in the same performance and even provided a bizarre Santa metaphor to explain why the Kid was a “b***h.” He mocked the Man On The Moon artist for threatening Drake from rehab in 2016, expressing that he “needs his a** beat,” and later, dissed him in 2018 while apologizing to Barack Obama and Kendrick for his criticism. Even though their attacks died down for a bit, Lupe reignited things in 2021 by dissing him about his feature on the Drake album Certified Lover Boy. At this point, it became clear that this was mostly one-sided since Cudi refused to engage.

Where Are Kid Cudi & Lupe Fiasco At Now?

Still, all this beef emerged while these artists continued to praise each other back-handedly on occasion. For example, Lupe Fiasco said that Kid Cudi was “a GOAT, but a b***h” in 2022. In addition, he wished for Will Smith and Chris Rock to make up after the Oscars slap while standing on his distaste for the 39-year-old. Lupe quadrupled down at the end of 2022 by responding with “F**k him for life” to a fan asking if they’d ever reconcile, but history took a turn this year with Cudi’s recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music. Here, he recalled the 2008 BAPE story with the 41-year-old, which prompted him to respond on Twitter with more attacks. While the “GHOST!” creative offered an apology via social media, the “MS. MURAL” lyricist wasn’t having it and said that he needed to talk to him if this was to resolve.

Now, at the end of all this, Kid Cudi let fans know via Twitter that he spoke with Lupe Fiasco and that they hashed everything out, and his former opponent’s co-sign of this and promotion of his new album INSANO means that they finally squashed their decade-long beef… for now. Afterward, Lupe trolled a fan by suggesting that part of their deal was that he would beat one Cudi fan up (which you can read below). As such, maybe this tale isn’t over, but we’re happy that these two amazing artists are finally at peace. A collaboration would be one of 2024’s most heartening hip-hop moments, so let’s see what the future holds in store.

A Look Back At Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake’s Popstar Romance

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake made up one of the most iconic celebrity couples in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. Besides the fact that they were young popstars, who doesn’t love a good story of childhood sweethearts ending up together? Their romance was a highly publicized affair, and as a couple, their love seemed to burn the brightest. Despite its intensity, it came to an end barely three years after it started. In the years that followed, there have been speculations and theories from fans about what really went down.

Through songs and indirect comments, the two have given brief insights on their respective versions of events. Britney Spears’ memoir, The Woman In Me, was released in October 2023. The book revealed previously unknown details about her relationship with Timberlake that left fans shocked. Two decades after their break up, their history still haunts them, and the media remains interested. Following Timbaland’s recent comments (and apology), let’s take a look back at their infamous romance.

1992: Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake Meet

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake first met in 1992 on the set of Disney’s show, The All-New Mickey Mouse Club. They were cast as “Mouseketeers” alongside now-iconic figures like Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, and Keri Russell. Spears and Timberlake were both only 11 years old in 1992, so obviously, their relationship is believed to be purely platonic at the time. The All-New Mickey Mouse Club was subsequently canceled in 1994. However, the two were already good friends by then, and their friendship eventually blossomed into a romantic relationship.

Timberlake shared in a 2006 interview with GQ, “I was in love with her from the start. I was infatuated with her from the moment I saw her.” More recently, Spears divulged in her memoir, “(Once) at a sleepover, we played Truth or Dare, and someone dared Justin to kiss me.” Well, he did reportedly kiss her as a Janet Jackson song played in the background. Evidently, their time together on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club set the tone for their eventual relationship.

After leaving their Mouseketeering days behind in 1994, the two moved on to other things. Justin Timberlake became a member of *NSYNC in 1995, serving as one of the boy band’s two lead singers. Likewise, Spears was briefly a member of the girl group Innosense before she secured a solo deal with Jive Records in 1997. To promote her upcoming debut album, Britney Spears would eventually tour with *NSYNC in 1998, serving as an opening act. While the pair may have kept in touch over the years, their time together on tour took their relationship to the next level.

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake became a couple in 1999 but initially did not reveal this to the public. The two initially denied rumors of their relationship during the early stages. However, that could only go on for so long, and they eventually went public with their relationship later in 1999.

2000-2002: Public Appearances

The pair were teenagers when their relationship started, and were arguably the most iconic teenage couple at the time. From their red carpet debut in 2000, the media, as well as the fans around the world, couldn’t get enough. In 2000 and 2001, they were often seen together and shared some iconic fashion moments. For example, their insanely fashionable matching denim looks at the 2001 AMAs are forever etched in our minds. So also are their adorable  “Pinky” and “Stinky” matching jerseys from a charity basketball event in 2001.

In a 2001 interview with Andi Peters for Rich & Famous, Spears shared that Timberlake asked her out sometime in 1999, while they were on tour. Many fans wholeheartedly hopped on the Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake train, rooting wildly for the pair. Admittedly, what the public could see about their relationship was as cute as cute could get. Surprisingly, however, their relationship came to an unexpected end in March 2002.

The Aftermath

Following their break up, Spears and Timberlake both went through varying degrees of heartbreak. In November 2002, Timberlake released the video for his acclaimed song “Cry Me a River,” which he admitted was inspired by Spears. Subsequently, Britney released “Everytime,” a song widely considered to be a response to “Cry Me a River” in 2004. Timberlake was interviewed by Barbara Walters in 2002, and when he was asked why the breakup happened, he answered “…I promised her that I wouldn’t say specifically why we broke up.”

Similarly, on an episode of Primetime, Diane Sawyer pointedly asked Britney Spears what she did that caused Timberlake so much pain and suffering. “I was upset for a while. I think we were both really young, and it was kind of waiting to happen,” she said. She continued by saying she “will always love him, and he’ll always have a special place in my heart.” However, Sawyer pressed further, “He left the impression that you weren’t faithful, that you betrayed the relationship.” To that, Spears responded, “I think everyone has a side of their story to make them feel a certain way. I’m not technically saying he’s wrong, but I’m not technically saying he’s right either.”

The Princess of Pop released her memoir, The Woman In Me, in October 2023, and even before it dropped, the book was already shaking tables. The Woman in Me details much of the superstar’s troubled upbringing and sees her being the most vulnerable she’s ever been. Additionally, the book contains some never-before-seen information about Spears’ time with Timberlake. In an excerpt from the memoir, the singer revealed that she became pregnant with Justin’s child at some point in their relationship. However, even though she’d have liked to keep the baby, she sadly had to undergo an abortion because “Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.” Moreover, she claimed in the book that Timberlake broke up with her via text.

From singing and dancing together as kids, to donning matching outfits as teenagers, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were one of the most famous couples of the pop culture wave of the 2000s. They have since gone their separate ways. While Justin Timberlake married actress Jessica Biel in 2012, Britney Spears has had her fair share of love, although she is now single. With the revelations in her memoir, however, it’s especially easy to see that things were not as rosy as the public image that was presented.

Diddy & Yung Miami’s Relationship Timeline

Diddy and Yung Miami continue to make headlines as one of Hip Hop’s hottest new couples. They appeared together at a number of high-profile events and publicly expressed their support for one another. Most recently, Diddy compared Yung Miami to Oprah, stating that he believes she will one day reach the billionaire’s level of wealth. This is largely due to Miami’s vast work ethic, endless business ventures, and talent. Evidently, heavy words like these are proof of their fondness for one another.

However, one thing stood out in the nature of their relationship: they refused to put a title on their bond. Indeed, they went on dates and were publicly affectionate with each other, but the exclusivity of their relationship was always clouded in smoke. Nonetheless, they are a fun and sexy item and have had a few definitive moments that impacted pop culture. Here’s a breakdown of their time together so far, from their early moments as an item, until now.

Summer 2021: The Genesis Of Diddy & Yung Miami

It is unknown to the public how the two met, but seeing as they are both musicians, it’s expected that they crossed paths at an event. Before they officially confirmed that they were together, however, there were already rumors of a romance. By the summer of 2021, speculations were being tossed around in the media. Neither of them addressed it though, even though they were sighted in public together a handful of times.

June 2022: Relationship Confirmation

Several months passed between the initial rumors and when the couple finally admitted to being an item. For a long while, Diddy and Yung Miami ignored the prying questions, but still further fueled public speculation. All of that finally changed in June 2022. Diddy and Yung Miami addressed the topic in an episode of Yung Miami’s podcast, Caresha Please. When Yung Miami asked him, “What we is?” on the episode, here’s what Diddy had to say: “We date, we’re dating. We go have dates. We’re friends. We go to exotic locations. We have great times.” Diddy definitely took his time coolly spelling all that out. They eventually moved on from the topic as the conversation progressed. However, fans and the media had finally gotten the confirmation they’d been waiting on for months.

June 2022: BET Incident

A notable moment in their relationship occurred later that same month. It was on the night of the BET Awards when Diddy was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. While Diddy gave his acceptance speech up on stage, Yung Miami was seen holding up a “Go Papii” sign, cheering him on. Diddy later received backlash for not acknowledging the City Girl, even though he appreciated his other exes. Yung Miami didn’t seem bothered though. She doubled down on X (formerly Twitter) with a simple and short “GO PAPI! ❤” post.

Sept. 2022: Yung Miami Shares Details About Her Relationship With Diddy

In September 2022, during an interview with XXL, Yung Miami further elaborated on her relationship with Diddy. “We are dating. We single, but we’re dating,” she said. “People don’t know what dating means. He’s single, I’m single, but we’re dating. That’s what I mean when I say we go together. When we’re together, we’re together. We’re having the time of our lives, but we’re still single.”

She clarified the nature of their relationship as well, which led to the media insisting that they had an open relationship. However, Yung Miami simply meant that while they were hanging out and going on dates, there was no official title yet concerning their relationship. “He see other people outside of me and I see people outside of him,” she said. “I’m young, I’m dating, you know, having fun… doing me. He’s doing the same thing. I can’t speak for exactly what he doing or who he seeing, but we single and we dating.”

Nov. 2022: More Relationship Shenanigans

Between September and November 2022, Diddy and Yung Miami were seen together often. Yung Miami was also featured on the remix of his song “Gotta Move On,” and she appeared in the music video. In November, Diddy received an iced-out chain from Yung Miami for his birthday. The two were openly affectionate towards each other, and glimpses of their relationship often made it into social media.

While things were rosy for a number of months, the internet became privy to a couple of chips in the wall. Drama ensued in Yung Miami and Diddy’s relationship after the latter welcomed his seventh child. In December 2022, when he announced the arrival of the child on social media, the news shook the net. Following the announcement, Yung Miami was called a “side chick” by Akademiks. Soon after, she also got into a heated online row with Diddy’s ex-girlfriend, Gina Huynh.

In April 2023, in an interview with The Cut, Yung Miami shared that she was no longer dating Diddy. After answering “no” when asked if they were still together, she further elaborated. “We’re still friends! We’re still good friends! But we’re single,” she said. “That’s not my man. We had our own situation, I’m not gonna put a title on it. We were fucking with each other hard… were together every day at one point. He supported me, I supported him. I’ll let the internet call it whatever they want to call it.”

However, while their relationship officially lasted almost a year, the pair are still very much having fun together. Furthermore, they continue to fuel rumors of being an item. For example, Yung Miami and Diddy recently spoke about their sex life, among other things on Apple’s Love Radio. So whether they are seeing each other, or just loving on each other loudly, their relationship is still far from over.

PnB Rock Shooting Timeline Reveals A Potential Fourth Suspect

PnB Rock was peacefully laid to rest at just 30 years old last month, but the Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate exactly what led up to the recording artist being fatally shot in front of his girlfriend at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles.

According to a new report from Fox 11 Los Angeles, the “Selfish” hitmaker’s death may have a fourth suspect who authorities are currently on the hunt for, as they say this person likely played an instrumental role in the fatal tragedy.

The outlet shared that prosecutors believe there was an unidentified man outside the restaurant on the city’s south side when PnB arrived to dine with his partner. He waited until Freddie Lee Trone (who was already arrested in connection with the murder along with his 17-year-old son earlier this week) arrived outside the joint, and the two were seen having a conversation before Trone left and returned with his son, whose name remains anonymous at this time.

The teen was reportedly dropped off within walking distance of Roscoe’s. When entering the restaurant, he allegedly pointed a gun at Rock’s partner, Steph Sibounheuang, telling her to “Give me all of your jewelry now!”

Reports reveal that PnB – born Rakim Allen – was shot in the chest just moments later. The gunman hit the recording artist twice more in the back after he fell to the ground, then turned back to Sibounheuang and said, “Show me your hands, give me that — right now. I swear to God! I shoot you in the head!”

After Steph gave over all of her possessions, the attacker proceeded to remove Allen’s chains, watch, and even his rings as he lay bleeding on the floor. The suspect is said to have run outside to his father’s car afterward, with the two then returning to their home.

These new details provide a different timeline of events than the one authorities initially believed when the 17-year-old unnamed Trone was arrested on Tuesday (September 27).
