Tiffany Haddish could star in a Wedding Crashers sequel because she has the experience. In an interview with PEOPLE, Haddish revealed that she used to crash weddings when she was homeless in an attempt to secure a meal.
“I’ve crashed weddings before, given a speech and didn’t know anybody there,” Haddish said. “That’s when I was homeless and hungry.”
She revealed she commonly practiced the crash at weddings at a hotel in L.A.’s Westchester neighborhood. She would leave after she had some food and liquor.
“I would have two or three drinks and then I would grab the microphone and be like, ‘I just want to say that you are the most beautiful couple,’” Haddish added. “Everybody would be looking at me like, ‘Who is this black girl at our wedding?’”
Tiffany Haddish says that she used to steal food from weddings back when she was “homeless and hungry.” The comedian recalled the tough period in her life during a recent interview with PEOPLE.
“I’ve crashed weddings before, given a speech and didn’t know anybody there,” Haddish admitted to the outlet. “That’s when I was homeless and hungry.” She elaborated: “I would have two or three drinks and then I would grab the microphone and be like, ‘I just want to say that you are the most beautiful couple.’ Everybody would be looking at me like, ‘Who is this black girl at our wedding?’”
From there, Haddish explained that her humble beginnings help keep her grounded as she’s grown into a celebrity. “I try my best not to hold onto too many emotions because I feel like when you hold onto all those emotions, they make you cr*zy and then you get delusional,” she said. “Sleep is the key. And don’t be afraid to go out in nature. Take your shoes off and walk in some grass.”
Haddish found her breakthrough into mainstream success with the release of the 2017 comedy film Girls Trip. In the movie, she stars alongside Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Queen Latifah. Her comments with PEOPLE aren’t the first time Haddish has reflected on her tough moments. In an Instagram post from 2019, she shared a picture of herself during a rough stretch.
“I look at this picture and want to cry tears of joy for this girl,” she captioned the photo of herself. “I remember that night. She was homeless, hungry, scared, and hurt. I promised her if she kept faith in God and herself, we will get to a place where we will be housed, overfed, less hurt and fear free.”

Last night, Lizzo performed the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc for an exclusive event hosted by iHeartMedia and MediaLink. The one-hour performance took place in Antibes, France, and Lizzo surprised her audience with some special guests. She welcomed comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish onstage, followed by Kevin Hart who was in town for the Cannes Lions Festival. Lizzo was sure to let the crowd know that “Everyone at a Lizzo show is a thicc bitch.”
During the show, Lizzo showcased some of her biggest hits, including “Truth Hurts,” “About Damn Time,” and “Juice.” Haddish jumped onstage for a brief twerk-off, and Hart joined her for “Good As Hell.” Lizzo told the comedian, “You look beautiful tonight.” Later on, she also brought CEO of MediaLink, Michael Kassan, onstage. After a dance move proved to be riskier than intended, Lizzo apologized to the exclusive audience. “Sorry it was inapprops,” she told them. The performer then finished off the show with one of her signature flute solos.
Despite the recent light-hearted festivities onstage with her comedian friends, Lizzo recently shared a serious message with her followers. Earlier this month, a series of Tweets revealed that she’s tired of constantly being confronted with fatphobia. “My ‘brand’ is FEEL GOOD MUSIC… CHAMPIONING ALL PEOPLE…. BLACK GIRL LIBERATION,” she reminded followers. “BEING FAT ISNT MY ‘BRAND’ BEING FAT IS WHAT MY BODY LOOKS THAT. THATS IT.” SZA has taken up for the artist in the past, telling her followers that the amount of hate Lizzo receives just doesn’t “add up.” The body-positive icon was also recently announced to be headlining this year’s Made In America festival alongside SZA in September. The Philly event will also feature sets from Ice Spice, Metro Boomin, Latto, and more.
In a recent interview with Wall Street Journal during the Cannes Lions Festival, Kevin Hart appeared to allude to a sex tape extortion incident that happened in 2019. “There was a time when I doubled down on family. Why? Well, I have a lot of brands that love the idea of family. Let me show family on a global scale,” he told Suzanne Vranica.

Uncle Drew, the 2018 sports comedy, stars Kyrie Irving, Lil Rel Howery, and Shaquille O’Neal, among other notables. It follows an elderly basketball fan’s desire to become victorious at Harlem’s Rucker Classic streetball tournament. Tiffany Haddish, with comedic energy exuberant enough to energize a city, plays Jess, the ex-girlfriend of Dax, a streetball team manager. However, her character remains, ultimately, a been-there-done-that prize.
4. The Oath (2018)
Chris, played by Ike Barinholtz, and Kai, played by Tiffany Haddish, understand there are tax benefits to declining to sign an American loyalty oath. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, the duo aims to survive not only the festivities but also the looming deadline of Black Friday. However, before they know it, agents come knocking at their door and the situation quickly spirals out of control – they must innovate ways to remain out of jail while protecting their families.
The movie was met with stark opinions from critics, albeit Haddish’s performance gained unanimous acclaim. In an interview withCollider, Barinholtz recounted positively his experience working together. “The moments where she pulled something out that was so crazy and funny… they were a delight,” Barinholtz said.
3. The Card Counter (2021)

The latter received considerable acclaim and recognition for the project.
2. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)
Six years after everything was awesome, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part arrived. Invading Duplo aliens from outer space threatened the citizens, causing destruction too quickly to be repaired. Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell, and others reprised their roles, while Tiffany Haddish lent her voice as Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi. Reviews were mostly positive; however, the film didn’t bring in the expected box office numbers. Consequently, Warner Bros. sold the rights to The Lego Movie franchise to Universal Pictures.
1. Girls Trip (2017)
Four old friends gathered in New Orleans for the Essence Festival and embraced life’s joys. Revelry was rampant — from carousing to quarreling and everything in between. Girls Trip, released in 2017, starred Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and an electric Tiffany Haddish. The script was written by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver, based on their own adventures with their girl gang. Critics praised the cast and originality of the picture. It even became the first film produced, written by, directed, and starring African Americans to pass the $100 million box office milestone. Notable awards and nominations ensued, including Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture at the 49th NAACP Image Awards due to Haddish’s masterful performance. Needless to say, this stands as one of the best Tiffany Haddish movies of all time.
Tiffany Haddish has been getting consistently bad press for quite some time. Last year, the actress and comedian Aries Spears were accused of sexual abuse of a minor. The pair were accused of grooming a 14-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother. They were said to have performed inappropriate, sexually suggestive acts for the purpose of comedic sketches. The two siblings, now adults, say they’ve been traumatized for life after the experience. The boy also claims that he was molested by both defendants.
The main focus of the lawsuit was a skit called “Though a Pedophile’s Eyes,” which was supposedly being filmed for Funny Or Die. The girl claims that her younger brother was barely 7 when “Aunty Tiff” brought him to a home where she and Spears molested him while filming said skit. The siblings met Haddish through their mother. They added that the Funny or Die video featuring John Doe was published online when he not even old enough to consent. Haddish, however claims that the entire thing was an extortion attempt. The suit was settled out of court. The actress claims that the lawsuit made her lose everything. However, that doesn’t seem to be stopping her from sticking up for other alleged abusers.
Haddish Tweets Get Her In Trouble
Earlier today, Tiffany Haddish retweeted a story about the Jonathan Majors abuse case. The tweet included a link to an article wherein Majors and his lawyer claim to show that his accuser was unhurt after the alleged abuse. The team included screenshots of the alleged security camera footage that, they say, shows proof that the victim was unharmed. Although many have not come out to condemn Jonathan Majors, Tiffany Haddish was one of very few who decided to defend the actor. Given her recent history, this course set people off on social media.
In the end, Haddish deleted the tweet. Unfortunately, many had already seen it, taken screen shots of it, or replied. “On top of barely escaping her own questionable behavior involving minors, Tiffany Haddish decides to play patriarchy princess,” one user tweeted. Others chimed in to agree. “If Tiffany Haddish ever backed/supported me,” another said, “I’d apologize even if I knew I didn’t do it because I shouldn’t even have been in a position for her to be going up for me.” Ouch. What do you think of Tiffany’s defense of Jonathan Majors? Sound off in the comments!
Tiffany Haddish threw shade at her ex, Common, over his alleged relationship with Jennifer Hudson on social media, earlier this week. The comedian was responding to questions from fans on TikTok when she brought up the legendary rapper.
“I’m still waiting to see if Common gave you the earrings I gave him for you when he came to Charlotte,” one fan wrote to Haddish. “Girl, he never gave me no damn earrings,” she responded, before joking, “He probably gave those to Jennifer.”
Tiffany Haddish With Common
Haddish and Common began dating at some point in 2020 before calling it quits in November 2021. “I miss him from time to time,” Haddish admitted on Fox Soul’s Hollywood Unlockedwith Jason Lee Uncensored afterward. “But that’s with, I think, any relationship, an intimate relationship that you might have, you miss them. But I’m fine with it. It’s cool. I wish him nothing but joy and happiness. He will always be cool.”
As for what Haddish is looking for from her next relationship, she recently detailed her ideal man during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “Good credit score because I need to know you’re responsible,” Haddish said on the show. “You need to have good hygiene. That’s really important to me. I can’t stand bad breath or funky armpits. I’ve been attracted to a lot of hip-hop kind of guys, and I don’t mind men wearing jewelry, but if you own a bunch of diamonds but you don’t own no land, that’s a problem for me. Land then diamonds. Because where do the diamonds come from? The land. So own the land, then get the diamonds. Like, I got diamonds, yes I do, because I got land.”
Common and Jennifer Hudson have been rumored to be dating for months. They previously worked together on the film, Breathe, in 2022. They’ve been spotted going out with one another on numerous occasions in the time since.
It’s been 6 years since Girls Trip hit theaters, and fans are eager to see the sequel. However, they may not be as eager to see it as Regina Hall. Hall recently did an interview with PEOPLE about her partnership with Jameson Irish Whiskey. Her partnership comes just in time for St. Patrick’s day. However, in the interview, Girls Trip inevitably came up. She says the film’s long-awaited sequel was initially delayed because the cast and crew of the film were “busy.” “So then,” she continued, “when you lock in the time — when you’re like, ‘Oh, we can do it now’ — [the COVID-19] pandemic comes. And then it’s like, ‘Well, we’ve got to wait.’”
Hall insists that people were waiting for things to calm down professionally before the pandemic hit. Then, they would do a sequel “if it made sense.” She added, “Because that whole film is about friendship and celebration.” The hit comedy film starred Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish with Hall as four college friends. The quad travels to New Orleans for Essence Music Festival to reignite their friendship years after they graduated.
Regina Hall For “Girls Trip”
Tracy Oliver, the film’s co-screenwriter, told Variety at the Sundance Film Festival in January that the upcoming sequel will take place in Ghana during the Afrochella music festival. Hall says that she found this out “in real-time with everyone else.” When discussing it, Hall said she’s assuming that will be fun. She said, “I’m excited to see the girls again and to make something hopefully that the fans love.” She added, “I think the biggest thing is we had so much fun making the first one, and I just look forward to just having that kind of fun again and that audiences will hopefully love it as well.” Additionally, Hall says that one of the complications that COVID-19 caused is that “You can’t have a film that interactive in the middle of a pandemic. It’s about being out and about. So I think that kind of changed it too.”
Furthermore, Will Packer, producer of Girls Trip, announced that the sequel was in the works during an appearance on Good Morning America last January. Packer told Good Morning America host, Michael Strahan, “Can’t we all use a post-pandemic trip, my friend? I think that the time is actually right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at GMA: the Girls Trip 2 sequel, we are underway. We are absolutely in the stages, the ladies are in, I just talked to the director.”
For years, fans have been petitioning for a sequel to Girls Trip, and last week, it was confirmed that Pt. 2 was happening. It’s a bittersweet revelation for some fans as Tiffany Haddish’s controversy still looms. The award-winning comedian and Aries Spears faced a child molestation lawsuit by two siblings who performed in a pedophile comedy skit with the pair. The backlash was heavy after the video resurfaced, and following the scandal, Haddish admitted she “lost everything.” The lawsuit was later dropped, and her accusers released a statement saying they knew she didn’t mean any harm.
“They say it every year, and I look forward to it,” Haddish told a paparazzo of a potential Girls Trip 2. The pushy photographer continued to follow the actress down the street. He brought up Haddish’s recent controversy and mentioned that some people want to see her replaced. When he asked for her response, she said, “I don’t have an opinion.”
Further, the actress more than welcomed any opportunity to reunite with her girls Trip co-stars. “I will do anything with those women,” Haddish added. “I love those people. I love everybody that works on that. We had a blast. They wanna work with me? I wanna work with them.”
Following the awkward exchange, the paparazzo told Haddish he wanted to see her in the sequel. She echoed his statement and said, “I would love to see that, too!” Before getting into her vehicle, she took a moment to speak about her critics. It’s something that she’s sensitive about, but it’s time for her to put the past in the past.
“I can’t be concerned with what people think,” Haddish also stated. “I gotta be concerned about how I feel. When I look in the mirror, am I happy with what I see? Yes, ma’am. God made it, God did a good job, God knows the truth.”
Girls Trip 2 is officially happening. Producers Tracy Oliver and Will Packer confirmed the sequel would include the original cast, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall, and Tiffany Haddish. Girls Trip 2 with the entire “flossy posse” is officially underway. According to the writer, director, and producer Tracey Oliver, the film will include the […]
