While most can’t wait to hear whatever’s to come, others think they could do without another album. “We as a society have moved past the need for Frank Ocean,” one person said in response to the apparent teaser.

As expected, the critic’s comment sparked a major debate among loyal fans, who definitely don’t agree with their claim. “We? The short was created in collaboration with Complex, and will put both Eminem and Slim Shady to the test in an 11-minute “roast battle.” The outlet shared a preview for the short today, and it will be released in full on July 29.

In the teaser, a Slim Shady deepfake sits across from Eminem, terrorizing him as they argue about getting canceled. “Only when the dust settles do we discover which one wins the war for the soul of Eminem,” Complex teases. From the looks of things, Slim Shady isn’t letting up, but neither is Em.

The trippy trailer has fans praising both Eminem and Complex for their creative use of artificial intelligence, and looking forward to seeing what’s to come. The Weeknd Teases The Conclusion To His “After Hours” Trilogy With New Trailer

It’s fittingly poetic that one of the most monumental music careers of the past 15 years will seemingly begin with a trilogy and also end with a trilogy. Of course, we’re talking about The Weeknd’s highly anticipated follow-up to Dawn FM and After Hours, which will conclude not just this era of his journey, but also possibly his stage name. Moreover, the hype for this project just caught a fresh new wind thanks to his most recent social media post, which is a cinematic trailer showcasing the aesthetics and a sonic mashup of the aforementioned 2020s albums. The final part of the clip shows what seems to be a young version of Abel Tesfaye amid grass, with the message: “There are three chapters to this tale.”

Furthermore, fans think that The Weeknd will kick off his next album’s rollout into full gear now, especially thanks to a one-off show in São Paulo, Brazil on September 7. This also follows previous teases, such as a possible Apple collab, that have given vague but exciting hints about what’s to come. From what this new trailer indicates, perhaps this new version of the Canadian superstar will be his rebirth or reincarnation following the death (or purgatory) narrated on After Hours and Dawn FM. That’s just speculative, though, so we’ll have to see what the LP actually indicates.

Elsewhere, though, The Weeknd has had a pretty notable 2024 without having to do much, as he’s a player in the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef. His features on Future and Metro Boomin’s We (Still) Don’t Trust You album series this year seemingly contained a couple of 6ix God shots, and his appearance at Kendrick’s “Pop Out” also furthered this narrative. Still, Abel didn’t really become part of the whole narrative. It’s just wild that he was still a huge name this year despite not doing much to warrant this, but then again, that’s his massive artistry at work.

Meanwhile, speaking of Metro Boomin, we know that he will at least provide some production to The Weeknd’s next project. Given the conceptual and musical directions of After Hours and Dawn FM, this will likely be another highly ambitious affair. We don’t know whether it will be a sonic evolution or more of the same in this trilogy, but either way, we should be in for a treat. Let’s hope that he follows up this trailer with some more concrete news.

Kendrick Lamar Previews New Song In Beginning Of “Not Like Us” Music Video

Kendrick Lamar has once again set the music world on fire. Today he finally released the highly-anticipated “Not Like Us” music video. While there are plenty of obvious, and not-so-obvious Easter eggs hidden throughout the video, one of the undeniable ones comes at the very beginning. In fact, he gives listeners a taste of an unreleased track, and teases new music within the first 20 seconds of the video. Audiences couldn’t be happier to hear that he does in fact, have new music coming.

The music video opens with Lamar’s trademark introspection. The beat is backed by the unmistakable sound of Mustard, who has become synonymous with the West Coast sound. Within the opening of the visual, there’s a still shot of the Compton Courthouse. Then, we see a black-and-white flashing visual of Kendrick in a hallway, followed by him rapping the lyrics: “I am reincarnated, I was stargazing/Life goes on, I need all my babies. Woke up looking for the broccoli/Hot key, keep a horn on me, that kamasi/IP ownership, the blue print is by me/Mister get-off, I get off at my feet.”

Boosie goes on to insist he has no “hate” in his heart and to claim that he hopes others don’t either. The next Richman single is going to be crucial, and it sounds like he’s got it under control.

Richman posted a teaser of his upcoming song, “Devil Is a Lie,” on TikTok on June 6. The brief clip sees him not only singing the song, but doing so on what appears to be a set for the music video. He sings in front of a car, and and posts up from a different angle where a camera can be seen moving past him. It’s led fans to believe that “Devil Is a Lie” is not only coming soon, but will have an official video attached as well. The song itself is ridiculously catchy. It captures the same bouncy, hooky energy of Richman’s first big smash, but with a throwback 2000’s feel. Many fans have rightfully pointed out that the singer seems to be channeling vintage Neptunes. The beat definitely sounds like something Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo would have cooked up for Nelly back in the day.

This makes perfect sense, given Tommy Richman’s affiliation with another R&B star, Brent Fayiaz. He had a standout appearance on the Faiyaz mixtape Larger Than Life, which also revived the 2000s sound they both grew up idolizing. Richman even signed to Faiyaz’s creative agency, ISO Supremacy, furthering their like-mindedness. It’s also worth noting that Richman hails from Virginia, which is where artists like Faiyaz and the Neptunes originated. The singer spoke on the impact of VA’s musical history on his own working process during a 2023 interview with Miami New Times.

“There’s a lot of passion through the scene back home,” Richman explained. “And I feel like it’s because a lot of people don’t get a fair shake. It’s really hard to have your voice heard there. That’s probably why a lot of people from Virginia left, like Pharrell and Timbaland. It’s kind of key for an artist to leave their nest. That way, you can appreciate where you come from.” Richman wants honor the legacy of these artists, and “Devil Is a Lie” suggests he’s doing a great job.
