Why Was Bobbi Althoff Reportedly Kicked Out Of Drake’s SXSW Party?

At South By Southwest on Monday, March 11, Drake’s team hosted an after-party (but Drake himself wasn’t there) following the premiere of the new docuseries Magic City: An American Fantasy, which was co-executive produced by Drake’s DreamCrew Entertainment. The event went down at Austin’s Mayfair nightclub, where Bobbi Althoff reportedly showed up before getting kicked out.

Why Was Bobbi Althoff Reportedly Kicked Out Of Drake’s SXSW Party?

“A source inside the party” reportedly told the Daily Mail, “I have no idea how she got in because she was not invited by organizers or hosts of the event. If you look up the past history between her and Drake, it’s easy to see why she wasn’t invited — and why she was removed as soon as possible.”

So, the reason seems to be that Althoff wasn’t invited due to her and Drake’s past.

Last summer, Drake appeared on Althoff’s The Really Good podcast. Shortly after their awkward-by-design interview, Drake unfollowed Althoff on social media, which sparked rumors of beef between the two. In January, though, Althoff said, “He’s a very nice person. Him and Funny Marco. Both of them definitely changed my whole entire life.” She also noted that she and Drake spoke regularly, and at the time, she had last talked to him “a couple weeks, maybe a month ago.”

Texas’ Governor Proudly Told Artists Boycotting SXSW Over Military Issues To Not ‘Come Back,’ But The Festival Disagrees

SXSW has found itself in a bit of a controversy this year, as some artists have pulled out of the festival due to some of this year’s sponsors, including the US Army. Texas governor Greg Abbott relished in this news, though, tweeting yesterday (March 12), “Bands pull out of SXSW over U.S. Army sponsorship. Bye. Don’t come back. Austin remains the HQ for the Army Futures Command. San Antonio is Military City USA. We are proud of the U.S. military in Texas. If you don’t like it, don’t come here.”

SXSW then issued a statement on social media, making it clear they do “not agree with Governor Abbott,” though. The statement explains their decision to have the Army as a sponsor, and it reads in full:

“SXSW does not agree with Governor Abbott.

We are an organization that welcomes diverse viewpoints. Music is the soul of SXSW, and it has long been our legacy. We fully respect the decision these artists made to exercise their right to free speech.

Across the globe, we are witnessing unspeakable tragedies, the rise of repressive regimes, and the increasing spread of violent conflict. It’s more crucial than ever that we come together to solve these greater humanitarian issues.

The defense industry has historically been a proving ground for many of the systems we rely on today. These institutions are often leaders in emerging technologies, and we believe it’s better to understand how their approach will impact our lives.

The Army’s sponsorship is part of our commitment to bring forward ideas that shape our world. In regard to Collins Aerospace, they participated this year as a sponsor of two SXSW Pitch categories, giving entrepreneurs visibility and funding for potentially game-changing work.

We have and will continue to support human rights for all. The situation in the Middle East is tragic, and it illuminates the heightened importance of standing together against injustice.”

SXSW Issues A Statement After A Person Was Killed In An Austin Hit-And-Run

South By Southwest is happening right now, spanning this year from March 8 to 16. Things haven’t been perfect so far, though. Some artists have opted to pull out of their performances due to one of the festival’s sponsors. Now, SXSW has shared a statement after a hit-and-run in Austin resulted in a death.

SXSW’s statement reads, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of an individual in downtown Austin following an auto-pedestrian accident shortly after 1:00am this morning. Our thoughts are with all affected by this tragic incident.”

As Fox 7 Austin reports, after 1 a.m. on March 12, two pedestrians were walking at the intersection of 7th Street and Red River and were hit by a vehicle, according to police. One of them died on the scene, while the other was taken to a hospital “with critical, life-threatening injuries.” The intersection has closed after the accident but had re-opened as of 5 a.m. Police are still looking for the driver.

The intersection where the hit-and-run took place is near participating SXSW venues like Elysium, The Creek And The Cave, and Flamingo Cantina, among others.

Meanwhile, Uproxx recently published a guide on the unofficial SXSW parties happening in Austin, so learn more about that here.

Royce Da 5’9″ Reveals Grudge Over Kanye West & Big Sean Upstaging Slaughterhouse

During a recent appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast, Royce Da 5’9″ spoke to its titular host about their rap group Slaughterhouse’s time at SXSW in 2012. They performed for S.O.B.’s 30th anniversary party and were the last show of the night with a lineup that also included 2 Chainz, Machine Gun Kelly, and Big Sean. The latter, Royce’s fellow Detroit MC, brought out Ye to perform “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” and the crowd went ballistic. Now, Joe and his Slaughterhouse partner recalled how they felt when the G.O.O.D. Music duo (at the time) upstaged them and killed a lot of hype for their performance with something grander that came right before in the form of the Chicago artist.

“I’m still mad at [Ye] about that,” Royce Da 5’9″ shared on the podcast, although not in an overtly serious or combative tone. Him and Joe Budden got around to talking about it when the latter brought it up, and Budden even joked about still having nightmares about it. “I’m mad at Big Sean too,” the podcast’s special guest continued. “He’s the one who brought him out. He was on stage. He f***ing showed me, I’ll tell you that.” For what it’s worth, neither artist seems to hold any true animosity for the Yeezy mogul.

Royce Da 5’9″ Appears On The Joe Budden Podcast: Watch

Their conversation around Big Sean, Ye, and SXSW begins at the two-hour, 14-minute, and 30-second mark (2:14:30).

“Big Sean was up at SXSW, Slaughterhouse was closing… Why?!” Joe Budden told Royce Da 5’9”. “Man, we back there doing our little Slaughterhouse chant. ‘All hands in the middle! Slaughterhouse on three! One, two, three!’ Then from the stage, [we heard], ‘La, la, la, la, wait ’til I get my money right.’ Everybody’s like, ‘Ahhh!’ I said, ‘Give me my hand! I ain’t f***ing with y’all! Y’all cr*zy as hell!’ By the time we went up there, it ain’t look like the same crowd. I was tight.”

To be clear, though, the Bad Meets Evil member isn’t really mad at the Sean Don; they’ve collaborated a lot and have shown each other a lot of respect over the years. “Royce Da 5’9 is a literal big brother, so I gotta go with Royce,” “The Baddest” MC said of his fellow spitter on Drink Champs, picking him over another Detroit legend in Eminem. “Eminem is, like I said, a god MC and a dream come true to work with, but I’ve been in the trenches with Royce for real.” For more news on Royce Da 5’9″, Joe Budden, Big Sean, and Kanye West, stay logged into HNHH.

Why Are Artists Pulling Out Of SXSW 2024?

The annual SXSW festival is set to run from March 8 to March 16 this year. However, many of the musical acts are dropping out of the lineup due to the festival’s sponsors, including the US Army.

Why Are Artists Pulling Out Of SXSW 2024?

“Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon),” is also on the lineup, according to the Austin Chronicle. Raytheon manufactured weapons for the military — which many artists feel should not have a place at an arts-and-culture festival.

Squirrel Flower (Ella O’Connor Williams) was supposed to perform at several showcases during the fest’s run. “I have decided to pull out of my official SXSW showcases in protest of SXSW’s ties to the defense industry and in support of the Palestinian people,” she shared in a statement.

“There are many ways SXSW is harmful to working musicians, but I am pulling out specifically because of the fact that SXSW is platforming defense contractors including Raytheon subsidiaries as well as the US Army, a main sponsor of the festival,” Williams added.

And she is not alone. Eliza McLamb and Okay Shalom are among some of the other performers who have voiced the fact that they will be leaving SXSW 2024.

“I have pulled out of my official SXSW showcase after learning that the US Army is a major sponsor of the event,” McLamb said. “I will never put my name on or perform my labor for an event in service of the US war machine, and especially not now as they continue to fuel the ongoing violence against Palestinians. Blood money has no place in music.”

With just a few days to go until the festival is set to start, other acts will likely be announcing they will no longer be performing before then.

Hannibal Buress Speaks on Performing as a Rapper: ‘This is a New Feeling For me’

ezgif.com webp to jpg 6

Popular comedian-actor Hannibal Buress is adding another skill to his resume.  After comedian and actor, Buress can also add rapper.  Recently, he performed in Austin, Texas, at the SXSW festival.  The TAG actor goes by Eshu Tune when he is rapping.  During his set, he performed songs from his self-titled album, such as “Knee Brace”, “Donde Esta”, and “Veneers”.  Buress has a remix to “Veneers” that features rappers Paul Wall and Danny Brown.

Before he performed, Buress let fans know that being on stage is new to him-but not in the way you may think.

“This is a new feeling for me.  Not the rapping thing-it’s just usually when I play show is Austin, I get paid a lot of money.”

The Spiderman: No Way Home actor kicked off his set with a live band and entertained the audience with not only his songs but his commentary as well.  Buress told jokes throughout his set, and his songs were comical as well.  Since the Chicago native is known for being a comedian, the audience assumed he would perform a stand-up routine.  This was like when Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, performed at the SXSW festival in 2011.  Fans were ready for jokes but instead witnessed Gambino rapping.

Buress and Gambino are similar as music and comedy have gone hand in hand for them.  The Get Out actor has participated in battle rap, hosted open mic nights, and has been on rappers’ albums performing skits.  When the coronavirus pandemic called for a lockdown, Buress decided to step in the studio and give rapping an actual chance.  The 40-year-old specializes in making funny, witty music, which is right up his alley.  His debut album, Eshu Tune, was released in April of 2022.

Here’s What You Missed At Just Blaze’s Austin Takeover & The ‘Fresh Pair’ Live Taping

With 2023’s SXSW events officially behind us, it’s time to look back on all the madness, chaos, and (above all) fun that went down in Austin, Texas last week. And no shortage of those memorable moments came via Fresh Pair co-host and all-around icon, Just Blaze. Backed by Twelve Rivers Realty and the video game company he cofounded, Brass Lion, Just went all-in this year with a four-day, three-night takeover of Native Hostel, including a live taping of UPROXX’s Fresh Pair with co-host Katty Customs and Texas hip-hop legend Bun B, sponsored by our partners Los Siete Misterios mezcal, STEPN, and WAGMI Beach.

Night one of the takeover opened with Just Blaze throwing a party in the Native Hostel ballroom which quickly turned into one of those nights that feels like it only happens in the movies. Over the course of more than seven hours (!!!), the superproducer was joined on stage by DJ Jazzy Jeff, Talib Kweli, Bun B, Redman, Jadakiss, Freeway, Beanie Seigel, and eventually even Dave Chappelle.

I mean… just look at this scene:

Who in their right mind wouldn’t want to be there that night? Who wouldn’t have been geeked when Dave Chappelle pushed away his (incredibly tough-looking bodyguards) and waded into the crowd for photos? Or when Redman came out spitting absolute fire with the same intensity and speed he had on his fastball in ’99?

Just Blaze Redman

The next day, Native Hostel, Brass Lion, and Twelve Rivers hosted Fresh Pair for their first on-the-road live taping, sponsored by Los Siete Misterios mezcal and STEPN. Katty Customs brought some killer fits to present to Bun B while he opened up about everything from his early hits to working with Jay-Z. That taping was followed by a cocktail party hosted by Los Siete Misterios who also set up a tasting table to sample their full line of mezcals while DJ Buck Rodgers spun and scratched, the crowd danced, and tacos circulated.

Later that night, Blaze hosted another party at Native Hostel’s Ballroom, inviting DJ Natasha Diggs and L3ni of Soul in the Horn with a late-night appearance by special guest DJ Pee Wee (you know, Anderson .Paak) to close out the evening.

Chloe Bailey Stuns At SXSW Festival With Sexy Outfit

Chloe Bailey treated fans who made it to South by Southwest with more than just incredible vocals. The songstress gave an incredible performance of her top hits, but her outfit was just as noteworthy.

Chloe is no stranger to sexy outfits, from the sultry black leather cutout ensemble she wore to the 2022 BET awards to the neon bikini she wore to the Revolve Festival that same year. The Swarm star has consistently turned heads with her sexy sense of style, so it’s no surprise that the star brought her A-game to SXSW with a tantalizing outfit.

Chloe’s Headturning Ombre Body Suit

The singer and actress donned a skin-tight ombre red and black pleather bodysuit that showcased her every curve over a pair of edgy mesh tights. She rounded out the look with a sturdy pair of black combat boots that featured a three-inch block heel. Chloe is known for her high-energy performances that include a lot of choreography, so combat boots are the perfect choice for her. They offer her the support she needs while still remaining stylish.

Bailey accessorized her outfit with a daring red choker reminiscent of the ones used on the BDSM scene and a pair of silver hoop earrings. While she was committed to serving, looks, practicality and comfort were obviously major concerns for her. Chloe kept her hair out of her face with a braided high ponytail that featured sparkling pieces of silver hair jewelry.

The star has been very verbal about believing in body positivity. She told PEOPLE as much. “I’m all about body positivity and flaunting your curves and feeling the best and the most sexy, so it felt right,” the “Have Mercy” singer said. “My favorite piece in the line is the baggy pants, and I love the fitted tees because it’s tomboy-ish but sexy at the same time. It hugs your curves in all the right ways.” The star also proclaimed her love for neutral colors. This love is visible in the way she frequently utilizes black, silver, and white for her performance and runway looks. What are your thoughts on Chloe’s outfit? Do you have a favorite look from her? Lil Yachty’s SXSW Set (And Any Other Outdoor Acts) Was Canceled Due To Lightning And Heavy Rain

Lil Yachty fans were disappointed tonight, as the rapper’s scheduled performance at SXSW has since been canceled due to rain and lightning in Austin. In addition, all other outdoor venue performances were evacuated from the Moody Amphitheater.

“Attention Moody Amphitheater Guests: Due to current conditions, the venue is being evacuated and all event programming has been cancelled. Our primary concern is the safety of our patrons and staff,” the venue tweeted.

“Unfortunately, we have to evacuate the venue,” a voice says in the video captured by an attendee — and everyone in the crowd audibly boos. “Just for the time being. We will let you know when it is safe to enter. I know this is not what anyone wanted to do.”

While the music will go on safely still inside with other acts, concertgoers are wondering if Yachty will return to make it up to them on another night of the festival.

“Sooo are we gonna get refunded??? cuz i guarantee we did not come to see anybody but yachty…” one fan wrote, tagging SXSW.

Another pointed out that Yachty had apparently posted to his Twitter and Instagram story that the show would go on before eventually deleting it — meaning it’s unlikely considering the weather conditions are causing power outages in some parts of the city and state.
