TwoGether Land Festival Makes a Spectacular Debut in Dallas

Summer Walker | Lil Wayne | Latto

The inaugural TwoGether Land Festival, a partnership between ONE Musicfest and Live Nation Urban, transformed the historic Fair Park into a vibrant celebration of urban music and culture this past weekend. With headliners like Lil Wayne, Summer Walker, Latto, and Gucci Mane, the two-day event drew thousands of music enthusiasts to Dallas, establishing itself as the Southwest’s hottest new festival.

The festival kicked off with a bang, setting high expectations from the start. Gucci Mane’s entrance was nothing short of electrifying, as the crowd erupted in cheers at the sight of “1017” displayed on the screen. Gucci treated fans to an array of hits including “Lemonade,” “Wasted,” and “Freaky Girl.” A highlight of his performance was when he brought his wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, on stage to dance to “Freaky Girl,” dazzling the audience with her glamorous outfit.

Dru Hill also left a lasting impression, celebrating their 25th anniversary with a performance that felt like a nostalgic trip back to the ’90s. They paid tribute to the late DMX, encouraging fans to “put your X’s up” during a spirited rendition of “What These B****es Want.” Hits like “Beauty,” “These Are The Times,” and “In My Bed” had the crowd singing along in unison.

Summer Walker’s performance was another standout, opening with a striking electric guitar riff. Her set included hits like “Session 32,” “You Don’t Know What Love Is,” “Playing Games,” and “Over It,” enhanced by stunning lighting in shades of purple, pink, and gold. She was joined on stage by guest artists, including Dallas native 4batz, who gifted her a large Louis Vuitton bag, and Tink, who performed “Treat Me Like Somebody.”

Memorable Moments and Star-Studded Sightings

The festival wasn’t just about the music. Kenyon Dixon mingled with fans in the VIP section, posing for photos and signing autographs. Houston’s Tajah The DJ, and K104’s Tre G and Kayla Brinkley were spotted among the VIPs, along with Jason Lyric.

Latto kept the energy high, performing her hits and engaging with the audience by tossing water bottles into the crowd, much to their delight. Her dynamic presence added to the festival’s exhilarating atmosphere.

A Grand Finale by Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne closed out the festival with a captivating set that left fans in awe. His performance included a comprehensive catalog of his greatest hits, providing a perfect end to an unforgettable weekend. As the final notes echoed through Fair Park, attendees knew they had witnessed something special.

TwoGether Land’s Promising Future

With its debut, TwoGether Land has set a high bar for urban music festivals in the Southwest. The diverse lineup and vibrant performances, coupled with the sense of community and celebration, promise that TwoGether Land will become a staple event for years to come. As festival founder J. Carter noted, “We look forward to TwoGether Land becoming a must-attend event, much like ONE Musicfest.”

TwoGether Land has indeed answered Dallas’ call, uniting music lovers from all corners to celebrate the creativity and soul of Black music. The festival’s successful inaugural year hints at an even brighter future, with anticipation already building for next year’s event.

Summer Walker Praised For Stunning Feature On Childish Gambino’s “Sweetest Thang”

Earlier this week, the ever-so-talented Childish Gambino sort of surprised everyone earlier this week by releasing Atavista. We say sort of because most artists do not drop big projects on Mondays, but this effort was known to be coming soon. The California native describes this as his updated version of the 2020 project 3.15.20. Ultimately, the mixing was improved, tracks were added and subtracted, and new guests were brought into the fray. One of those fresh faces included Atlanta R&B songstress Summer Walker.

Her vocal talents were added to the seven-minute ballad about Gambino not understanding why his partner continue to loves him. Conversely, Summer reaffirms her affection on the outro in which they harmonize. “I just wanna say thank you / ‘Cause I love you, mm, mm (Love you),” she repeats. It is easily one of the most, if not the most stunning track on the album and fans are taking notice online.

The Neighborhood Talk gathered some tweets and everyone agrees that Summer has a gorgeous voice. “Oh he really put summer walker on sweetest thang.. it’s beautiful😫,” one user writes. “Summer Walker on here is EVERYTHING,” another adds. The song has some breathtaking church organ sections woven into the instrumental and when she pops in, it takes it to another level. She was definitely a natural fit, as Summer has shown interest in gospel music throughout her career. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she mentioned what she keeps in rotation from the genre. “”I have a very, very, very large playlist and I do not know the names of anything. I just listen to it… It’s like a bunch of gospel.”

What are your thoughts on the praise that Summer Walker is getting for her feature on Childish Gambino’s “Sweetest Thang” off Atavista? Is this one of her strongest guest performances of her career, why or why not? Is this the best song from Gambino’s new album? Did she have the best feature on the record? Mike WiLL Made-It Criticizes Rappers For Remaking Classic Songs

Mike WiLL Made-It is one of the defining producers of the 2010s. He helped to cultivate the sound of an entire generation of artists, courtesy of his hard-hitting sound and his signature tag. Mike WiLL’s profile has lessened in recent years, as he’s stepped back to focus on the artists signed to his record label. He had something to get off his chest May 16, however. The Atlanta producer got on X (formerly Twitter) to complain about the current state of hit-making. According to him, artists have gotten lazy.

The critique came in two parts. The first saw Mike WiLL Made-It call out artists who simply remake iconic songs. “Sick of hearing remakes,” he tweeted. “Nothing like original shxt.” The second message pointed out the trend of older artists agreeing to hop on the remake of their own song. “Please don’t feature on your classic remake,” he added. “It’s a pet peeve of mine.”

Mike WiLL Made-It Wants Artists To Make Original Music

The producer didn’t mention any names, but there are plenty of recent examples. Usher hopped on Summer Walker’s “Come Thru,” which sampled his 1997 single “You Make Me Wanna…”. Then there’s Fergie, who performed alongside Jack Harlow at the VMA’s when he sampled “Glamorous” on his radio hit, “First Class.”

Mike WiLL Made-It is tired of this trend. He doesn’t blame the record labels, either, he blames the artists. In his estimation, the labels don’t care about the music so long as they are moving units. “They just put the shxt on the shelf,” he wrote in a separate tweet. “Its on the production company or the independent artist…” Mike WiLL wasn’t the only producer who voiced their frustration.

Sonny Digital, another 2010s stalwart, backed up the claim. He quote tweeted Mike WiLL and added: “I swear I don’t respect anybody remaking a song that’s already a hit and then ACT like they made a hit from a song that was ALREADY a hit.” Here’s hoping more high-profile artists take not of what these producers are saying, and attempt more original music.

Rolling Loud Los Angeles 2024: Five Best Sets Of The Weekend

Every year, some of the biggest stars in rap and R&B gather in one place. Over the weekend that place was Los Angeles for the 2024 Rolling Loud LA Festival. With four big-name headliners and dozens of beloved supporting acts, everybody got a taste of something they love during the festival. While everyone goes to music festivals for different artists and different reasons, these were some of the best sets of the weekend that brought both energy and theatricality to the festival stage.

Summer Walker

For a lot of artists, the spectacle is as much a part of the show as anything else. That was definitely the case right out of the gate for Summer’s Saturday Night performance at the GoPuff stage. With an impressive live band and array of backup dancers she made her presence known instantly upon arrival. But unlike some of the weekend’s other most theatrical performances, there was actually substance underneath the flash.

Throughout her set, Walker brushed through numerous fan favorites as well as some of her newest material. Throughout, Walker’s vocals were stunning, consistently soaring above the live instrumentation. Her performance was strong enough to reach the dramatic peaks of some of her most dramatic sonic moments and it made the set an absolute delight.

Future And Metro Boomin

Rolling Loud has a reputation for virality. That often comes from huge moments where the biggest names in hip-hop take an absolutely massive stage to show off their sheer force of star power. The only set of the entire weekend that lived up to that level of grandiosity was the Sunday night headlining slot of Future and Metro Boomin. The two superstars closed out the entire festival with a career-spanning performance that lived up to the promise of Rolling Loud.

Just a few weeks ago the pair confirmed that they have two new albums on the way very soon. Throughout the set, they continually promised that it was going to be some of the best music of the year. From what they performed live, many fans agreed, In particular, when the duo had fellow stars Travis Scott and Playboi Carti join them on stage it made for one of the best and most talked about moments of the entire weekend.

Flo Milli

Saturday night, Flo Milli hit the GoPuff stage in the wake of a major couple of weeks for her. She’s scored one of her biggest hits to date with the single “Never Lose Me,” which just got a new remix featuring SZA and Cardi B. She also just released her new album Fine Ho, Stay her first new project since 2022. All of that gave her plenty of reason to celebrate and flex, which is exactly what she did throughout her set.

She delivered one fan-favorite cut after another spanning her entire career during the 30-minute set. Much like her albums, it was an absolute banger fest. For one song after another Flo Milli routinely got the chance to spit confident bars and hard-hitting catchy refrains. With an audience clearly packed full of die-hard fans the intensity and attitude of the performance was unrivaled for the entire weekend.

YG And Tyga

It’s only fitting that two of California’s finest would deliver one of the best performances of Rolling Loud Los Angeles. YG first appeared on Thursday night alongside Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign, and a myriad of other guests for the VULTURES listening party. But that was nothing compared to the energy he would bring to his own set on Friday. He’s celebrating the 10th anniversary of his debut album My Krazy Life and kicked off the set with fiery performances of some of the album’s classics.

But the highlight of the show came once the pair went back to back in the second half. They did an impromptu live Verzuz on stage that reminded fans they both have hit after hit. That even included a surprise appearance from Saweetie alongside YG where they tantalized the crowd by flirting on stage. The celebration of two of the West Coast’s finest felt like one of those Rolling Loud moments that fans will talk about for years to come.

Ski Mask The Slump God

One of the most signature elements of Rolling Loud is the raucous crowds. Nearly every year videos of massive mosh pits breaking out with fans going absolutely wild hit the internet and go viral. It’s arguably the hallmark of the entire festival. Yet the only crowd of the weekend that really felt like it lived up to that high bar of intensity was Ski Mask The Slump God. He’s no Rolling Loud novice and you could tell as he seemingly knew exactly what songs to deliver to get the crowd hype.

During the second half of the set, he paid tribute to both XXXTENTACION and Juice Wrld and the crowd chanted along with nearly every word of every song. From the more intimate moments where cell phone lights swayed back and forth to the throttling intensity of songs like “Rip Roach,” Ski Mask’s set was the weekend’s lone moment that felt like it was destined to be the next viral Rolling Loud crowd hype video. Nobody all weekend was in command of the stage and the crowd more than Ski Mask The Slump God.

Sexyy Red and Summer Walker Heat Up Screens with ‘I Might’ Music Video

Sexyy Red and Summer Walker Heat Up Screens with 'I Might' Music Video

Continuing her scorching streak, Sexyy Red unveils the music video for “I Might,” featuring her friend and go-to collaborator, Summer Walker, now available via Open Shift Distribution/gamma.

Directed by Des Gray, the star-studded video navigates the complexities of love and hip-hop. Sexyy finds herself entangled between two love interests, Atlanta’s Hunxho and Lil Scrappy, portrayed vividly against the backdrop of her emotions. Dressed in a flowing red coat, she reflects on her romantic entanglements while bonding with Summer atop a motel balcony.

“I Might” marks the second collaboration between Sexyy and Summer, following their viral hit “Sense dat God gave you” in November 2022. The track is a standout from “Hood Hottest Princess (Deluxe),” Sexyy’s latest project released in December.

The video captures the essence of passion, drama, and conflict, leaving viewers captivated by the narrative. Sexyy’s genuine portrayal and Summer’s soulful presence elevate the visual, creating a memorable cinematic experience. “I Might” reinforces Sexyy Red’s position as a rising star in the hip-hop scene, captivating audiences with her magnetic persona and undeniable talent.

Sexyy Red Pits Her Men Against Each Other In The Mischievous ‘I Might’ Video With Summer Walker

Sexyy Red is, for lack of a better term, an absolute menace for anyone in a relationship with her — at least judging by her musical output so far. While dating Red promises frequent trips to “Pound Town,” it apparently also comes with jailhouse drama, a “Rich Baby Daddy” she doesn’t seem too fond of, and other assorted mess that comes from dealing with an unabashed “Hood Rat” who truly doesn’t give a… you know.

Her new video for “I Might” with Summer Walker details her latest misadventures in romance, threatening to call up her side piece when her baby daddy starts acting up. She even takes sinister glee in pitting the two men against each other, which in the song means chuckling that her baby daddy “gon’ leavе you leakin’ in a alley” if he finds out about her infidelity. In the video, she takes the mischief a step further, cackling from the sidelines with her third option as her jilted boo thang confronts her number two, only to find himself swiftly outnumbered and surrounded by his rival’s fellow hooligans. Cinema, truly.

Summer Walker turns out to be a perfect pairing, as she’s always been with starting a fight on record, but brings the softness to the track that makes it deceptively catchy. Seriously, it’s a great song, but if I ever run into either in person, I’m running the other way.

21 Savage, Brent Faiyaz, And Summer Walker Laid On The Charm With Performances Of ‘Should’ve Wore A Bonnet’ And ‘Prove It’ On ‘SNL’

In his second performance of the night, 21 Savage stepped into his melodic bag on the Saturday Night Live stage. Still riding the high of his latest album, American Dream, 21 gave us a double dose of fan favorites.

He opened his second set with “Should’ve Wore A Bonnet.” Standing in front of a large window, the beautiful views of the New York City night sky added to the charm of the rhythmic rap and R&B crossover track. At the song’s chorus, 21’s collaborator Brent Faiyaz made a brief appearance, matching 21’s energy.

The music then transitions to another hit from the album — the Summer Walker collaboration, “Prove It.” The light in the room dims slightly, adding to the song’s intimate mood. Walker herself makes an appearance, nearly stealing the show in a two-piece red ensemble.

Walker has long been open about her anxiety and why she often does not look forward to live performances, however, the two appeared to have good musical chemistry onstage. After all, Walker and 21 have collaborated a total of four times — previously on Jhené Aiko’s “Triggered” remix, a song called “Secret,” and their Usher collaboration, “Good Good.”

You can see the performances of “Should’ve Wore A Bonnet” and “Prove It” above.
