Jazmine Sullivan Set Canceled At Leimert Park Juneteenth Festival After Stampedes

Many in Los Angeles were excited to see Jazmine Sullivan and other performers like Wale and Too $hort for the Leimert Park Juneteenth Festival hosted by Amazon Music Live. However, when it came to the R&B star’s set in particular, something happened that made them cancel it. It’s unclear what it was at the moment, as this is a developing story. Still, testimonies on social media indicate that multiple crowd stampedes caused disruption at the festival and prompted either Jazmine, her team, or organizers to call things off. Some were unaware of what happened while attending, while others said that a shooting went down.

In addition, many who were watching the performances via livestream expressed confusion online, as Amazon Music apparently simply said that the event was over. Of course, given the early nature of this news and reports, take these with a grain of salt as more information emerges. Regardless, fan testimonies are particularly scary to hear, as it seemed like a potentially dangerous development in what was otherwise a beautiful and joyous celebration. Fans of the acclaimed singer who weren’t present gave their complaints, but the focus quickly shifted to people on the ground.

Jazmine Sullivan’s Message To Fans After Show Cancellation

Jazmine Sullivan Leimert Park Juneteenth

In fact, Jazmine Sullivan herself came through with a message for fans on her Instagram Story. “I hope everyone made it home to their loved ones tonight!” the 36-year-old Heaux Tales star wrote. “I’m so disappointed we couldn’t come together and celebrate Juneteenth! If you’re still at the park please leave. The show is cancelled,” she concluded with a crying emoji. While she didn’t hint at the reason behind the cancellation, the fact she expressed hope that everyone got home safe confirms what fans are saying online.

On that note, some fans gave testimonies of there being a shooting that caused these stampedes, while other news outlets don’t mention it. In fact, others online are calling it misinformation and stating that there was poor crowd control and two shoving incidents. No matter what happened, hopefully everyone made it home safe. Sister Of Stampede Victim At GloRilla Show Plans To Sue

The sister of one of the victims of the stampede at a GloRilla concert in New York, last month, intends to sue, according to Billboard. Ronisha Huston’s attorneys detailed their case to the outlet, claiming that their client suffered “emotional distress and needs access to video footage, emergency plans, and other key information.”

The court filing from Tuesday notes that Huston is the sister of Rhondesia Belton. Belton is one of three people who died at the show. “Petitioner Ronisha Huston and her now-deceased sister, Rhondesia Belton, got caught up in the crowd surge,” Huston’s team shared. “Huston witnessed her sister getting crushed in the stampede.” They filed the document in court as a “petition for pre-action discovery.” The legal team says they were retained to “pursue claims for personal injuries and infliction of emotion[al] distress” and that Huston has a “meritorious” case.

Huston and her team are looking to obtain a series of information from Main Street Armory. This includes “the security firms involved, video footage of the entire concert, fire exit and emergency plans, floor plans, regulatory permits, and communications with private entities involved with the concert.”

The stampede occurred at the conclusion of GloRilla’s show after the crowd heard what they believed to be gunshots. Belton and Brandy Miller died from injuries they sustained that same night. Additionally, a third woman, Aisha Stephens, died a few days later. GloRilla released a statement on Twitter following the announcement of the deaths. GloRilla began by calling the deaths “tragic.” From there, she further wrote: “My fans mean the world to me praying for their families & for a speedy recovery of everyone affected.” The case comes less than two years after the deadly crowd surge during a Travis Scott concert. That incident later resulted in hundreds of similar lawsuits, although there were far more than victims at Astroworld. Check out GloRilla’s statement on the tragic incident on Twitter below.

GloRilla & Finesse2Tymes Concert Sees Third Stampede Death: Report

As a newcomer in the mainstream, this is supposed to be a carefree season for GloRilla. The Memphis hitmaker moved from a social media personality to a viral star to a certified rapper signed with Yo Gotti’s CMG. Her “F.N.F.” single took over social media, and as GloRilla has been traveling the world and amassing new fans, she’s been hit with a tragic setback. She was performing at a concert in Rochester, New York, with Finesse2Tymes when audience members believed they heard gunshots. Soon, people were pushing toward the exits.

The surge caused a stampede as the crowd ran for cover. It was just as the show was ending around 11:00 p.m.; however, an investigation uncovered that there weren’t any shots fired. Rhondesia Belton, 33, and Brandy Miller, 35, sadly died as a result of the incident. Forbes reports a third woman, 35-year-old Aisha Stephens, has also succumbed to her injuries.

The Venue Has Shut Down Following GloRilla & Finesse2Tymes’s Show

The Rochester Main Street Armory has also been under scrutiny after people reportedly called the venue a “death trap.” The Huffington Post reported that the City of Rochester refused to renew the Armory’s entertainment license. An investigation into its regulations is also ongoing, as well as if there will be criminal charges in the future. Additionally, authorities are inspecting the building for any code violations.

This event has caused Travis Scott’s scandal to be reintroduced. The Astroworld tragedy continues to be tied up in litigation, but it isn’t forgotten. A crowd surge involving thousands of fans caused ten people to lose their lives while several more were injured. Scott was blamed for the incident but denied culpability. Lawsuits have emerged from victims’ families, and the ordeal has caused artists to be more accountable for how they navigate fans in distress.
