Panthers Owner Fined After Throwing Drink At Jags Fan

The NFL has fined Panthers owner David Tepper $300K after he was spotted throwing a drink at Jags fans from his open-air suite. The moment came as the Panthers were shut out 26-0 by the hometown Jags. The team was playing without Trevor Lawrence for the first time since they drafted him. “I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior,” Tepper said in a statement. The video was originally uploaded to social media by a Jags fan in a nearby suite. However, as the league’s second-richest owner, the fine is 0.000001% of his net worth.

The loss ended the Panthers’ 342-game streak without a shutout. Furthermore, it is one of the lowest points in an overall terrible season. Despite grabbing Bryce Young first overall in the 2023 Draft, the team started 0-5 and currently sit at 2-14. Tepper fired head coach Frank Reich earlier in the season, the third head coach Tepper has dismissed since buying the team in 2018. Of course, chants of “sell the team” could be heard intermittently throughout the game. On the field, the Panthers generated less than 200 yards of total offense.

Furthermore, the shutout loss means that the Panthers secured the first-overall pick in the 2024 Draft. However, thanks to the trade that landed them Young, the Bears will pick at No. 1 instead when April rolls around. If the Bears opt to stick with Justin Fields, the NFL could see Chicago trade the No. 1 pick for the second year in a row. Furthermore, the 7-9 Bears are expected to have a top-10 selection with their own natural 2024 pick.

As with the 2023 Draft, quarterbacks are expected to head the first few picks. Caleb Williams (USC), Drake Maye (North Carolina), and Heisman winner Jayden Daniels (LSU) are all expected to be off the board in the first three picks. Furthermore, J.J. McCarthy (Michigan) and Michael Penix Jr (Washington) could sneak into the first round. Given the latest draft projections, this will likely see Chicago, Washington, and New England debut rookie starters in 2024.

Jazz Ask Rabbis To Remove Pro-Jewish Signs Aimed At Kyrie Irving

A group of Utah Jazz-supporting rabbis has claimed they were asked to put away signs reading “I’m a Jew and I’m proud” during a game against the Mavericks. Furthermore, they claim that the request was due to complaints from Kyrie Irving. Rabbi Avremi Zippel and three of his colleagues sat at the Delta Center with their signs with the intent of attracting Irving’s attention due to his anti-Semitic comments in 2022. According to Zippel, Irving acknowledged the signs in the first quarter. The Mavs veteran reportedly told Zippel and his friends, “Nice, I’m a Jew, too. Don’t gotta bring something like that to the game.”

Soon after the interaction, Zippel claims security approached his group and told them to remove the signs. The official cited a rule about holding signs in courtside seats. However, Zippel also claims that another staffer later informed him that the removal was due to Irving filing a complaint with security. While Zippel said he had previously checked the rules about signs, the team issued a statement after the game. “No matter where someone is in the arena, if a sign becomes distracting or sparks an interaction with a player, we will ask them to remove it. During an out-of-bounds play in the first quarter of yesterday’s Jazz game against the Dallas Mavericks, there was a group sitting courtside whose signs sparked an interaction with a player that created a distraction and interfered with play of game,” the Jazz said.

Kyrie Irving returned to the Mavericks after a brief explosion of free agency drama. Irving said he was “happy to come back” to Dallas after signing a three-year, $126 million deal within the first hour of free agency. “It wasn’t too difficult of a process. Had Dallas as number one on my list. Obviously, I looked elsewhere — salary cap opportunities, where I could fit in with other guys around the league. But there just wasn’t much space. And me being 31 now, I had to have a different vantage point. And I felt like I could not just settle here but be happy to come back here and be welcomed back with a warm embrace.”

He continued. “So I took everything into account. I took my time a few days before free agency just to be with my family, gauge how they felt about being in Dallas alongside me. And everybody was excited. I mean, even when I got traded here, midseason, a lot of my family was excited. They were just looking forward to me having a peace of mind just on the court and off the court. I had already dealt with enough past season or the past two seasons. So they knew that I just wanted a lot of that off my back and off my shoulders of feeling like I had to be Superman or I had to be perfect. So I think this is the best place to do it and continue to mature and grow as a man.”

Ciara and Derek Jeter are distant cousins, the singer learned on the latest episode of PBS’ Finding Your Roots. “What in the world? You are kidding me. Derek Jeter! That’s crazy,” Ciara said upon hearing the news. Meanwhile, Ciara’s husband, Russell Wilson, took to social media to share his own reaction. “Always knew it! [laughing emoji] @Yankees Captain! @DerekJeter @Ciara,” the Broncos QB wrote.

Ciara was the guest for the show’s January 2 season premiere. However, the episode dropped a little under a month after Ciara gave birth to her and Wilson’s third child. On December 11, they revealed Amora Princess to the world. The pair had largely kept the pregnancy a family secret until Ciara made an announcement post showing off her baby bump in August 2023.

Just before the New Year, Wilson confirmed speculation that the Broncos benched him because he refused to make significant adjustments to his contract. “They definitely told me I was going to be benched and all that. That whole bye week I didn’t know what was going to be the case. I was going to be ready to play, I wanted to go to Buffalo and beat Buffalo. I wasn’t going to remove the injury guarantee, this game is such a physical game, I’ve played 12 years and all that. And I want to be able to play, I want to be able to help this team win. Specifically, as Wilson alluded to, the Broncos had wanted the veteran QB to defer an injury guarantee to 2025. Under the current language of Wilson’s contract, he would receive $37M in guaranteed money if he wasn’t able to pass a physical in March 2024. Meanwhile, head coach Sean Payton, who cited the desire to trigger an “offensive spark” when benching Wilson, denied any knowledge of the contract dispute. “I’m not privy to any of those [discussions], I’m handling the football. I know how this has been written, but this decision is strictly what I believe gives us a chance to win No. 8. Hard decision [but there] will be no other reasons,” Payton said.

Jackson Mahomes Reportedly Facing Reduced Charges In Assault Case

Prosecutors have filed a motion to dismiss three felony sexual battery charges from their case against Jackson Mahomes. Per sources who spoke to TMZ, an uncooperative alleged victim has meant that the prosecution has had to amend the scope of their investigation. Despite video evidence tying Mahomes to the alleged assault of a restaurant manager in Overland Park, the woman has told prosecutors that she does not want to press charges. Furthermore, sources have gone as far as to say that the woman had threatened to say she had been untruthful about the assault and that her encounter with Mahomes had been wholly consensual.

The 23-year-old Mahomes was arrested and booked at Johnson County Detention Center in early April 2023. Furthermore, he was reportedly charged with sexual battery relating to a February incident at the Aspen Restaurant and Lounge. “Like I said from the beginning. Jackson has done nothing wrong. We had full confidence that the truth of the matter would ultimately be revealed. The defense will reserve further comment until the remaining count is disposed of,” Mahomes’ attorney told a local FOX affiliate. A judge will rule on the dismissal motion later today.

Jimmy Kimmel has warned Aaron Rodgers that he could pursue legal action against the sidelined quarterback after Rodgers made comments tying Kimmel to Jeffrey Epstein. During his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers specifically named Kimmel as someone who “doesn’t want” a soon-to-be-released list of names previously redacted in a civil suit filed before Epstein’s death to be made public. The purported list contains around 150 names of people allegedly associated with Epstein and his sex crimes. However, it was not a comment that Kimmel took lightly.

“For the record, I’ve not met, flown with, visited, or had any contact whatsoever with Epstein, nor will you find my name on any ‘list’ other than the clearly-phony nonsense that soft-brained wackos like yourself can’t seem to distinguish from reality. Your reckless words put my family in danger. Keep it up and we will debate the facts further in court,” Kimmel wrote on X. Neither Rodgers nor ESPN have commented on the quarterback’s claims.

Jimmy Kimmel and Aaron Rodgers have never been on good terms. Rodgers’ anti-vax stance, as well as his views on things such as UFOs, have previously been a source of mockery on Kimmel’s late-night show. In March 2023, Kimmel called Rodgers a “Green Bay Whack Packer” after Rodgers suggested that the recent declassifying of UFO-related documents was an attempt to distract people from the potential of the “Epstein List”. Despite this, their feud has never been as serious as it is now.

However, the issue also creates a major headache for Disney. Rodgers made his comments on ESPN. Ciara is of course married to football star Russell Wilson, but it turns out that’s actually not her only familial connection to the sports world: In a new clip from the PBS series Finding Your Roots, Ciara finds out that she is related to a former New York Yankees all-time great.

In the clip shared by Ciara on social media, Ciara turns a page of a book being presented to her, and when she sees what’s on it, she immediately looks up and exclaims, “What the world?!” The photo was of Derek Jeter, and host Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. explained, “That is your DNA cousin.” Ciara replied, “You are kidding me. Derek Jeter,” adding, “That’s crazy.”

In a voiceover, Gates explained share a “long, identical stretch of DNA on their 14th chromosome, DNA which we know Derek inherited from his mother.”

Ciara wrote while sharing the clip, “The moment I learned @DerekJeter was my cousin! Crazy! Thank you @drhenrylouisgates for such an incredible experience! This was a dream come true to learn about my family genealogy!”

The episode aired last night (January 2), and in the same one, Alanis Morissette made a surprising discovery of her own, learning that she’s a distant cousin of actress Claire Danes (as Entertainment Weekly notes). She said, “I’ve worked with her before, I heart her so much. Now I’m about to explode into confetti!”

ESPN Issues Apology After Woman Flashes Her Breasts Live On Air

Of course, one of the sports that they cover is college football. College football had an amazing weekend as there were plenty of massive Bowl games. Of course, there was the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl, which led to the National Championship Finalists being crowned. The final game, which goes down next Monday, will be between Michigan and Washington.

During the Sugar Bowl, ESPN took fans through the streets of New Orleans. While going to or coming back from commercials, there would be shots of the city. At one point, the network tried to go down Bourbon Street. Overall, this is an ambitious idea given the debauchery that takes place on that street. Well, ESPN learned that the hard way as a woman flashed her breasts during a stroll down the street. It was an unfortunate moment as there was no real way for the network to censor it.

Bill Hofheimer, a spokesman for ESPN, told the Associated Press that the network was extremely sorry for what went down. “We regret that this happened and apologize that the video aired in the telecast,” he said. Last night, James decided to head to Hyde Sunset in Los Angeles for his party. According to TMZ, there was a stacked guest list. This is a guest list that included Jay-Z, Beyonce, Anthony Davis, and even Green. There was even a theme to the event and in some photos obtained by the outlet, Green and others had on some flashy attire.

The timing of this is interesting as Green was suspended indefinitely by the NBA recently. This all took place after he swung his arm and hit Jusuf Nurkic in the face. Now, Green has to go through counseling and he can only return once he goes through a few steps. Whether or not that return will happen soon, remains to be seen.
