The Best Vinyl Releases Of November 2023

Uproxx

Anybody who thought the vinyl resurgence was just a fad was mistaken: The industry has experienced a legitimate revival. As a result, music fans are interested in physical media in ways they may not have if the decades-old medium hasn’t made a comeback. That doesn’t mean everybody is listening to just their parents’ old music, though. That’s part of it, sure, thanks to rereleases that present classic albums in new ways. A vital part of the renewed vinyl wave, though, is new projects being released as records, of which there are plenty.

Whatever you might be into, each month brings a new slew of vinyl releases that has something for everybody. Some stand out above the rest, naturally, so check out some of our favorite vinyl releases of November below.

Snoop Dogg — Doggystyle (30th Anniversary Edition)

Snoop Dogg Doggystyle 30th anniversary
Death Row Records

Snoop Dogg (who’s still smoking weed, by the way) is celebrating 30 years of his iconic debut album, Doggystyle, with a new reissue. This is a cool one, too: Aside from being available in a number of color variants, it features “Gz Up Hoes Down,” which was exclusively available on the album’s initial 100,000 units in 1993, making it sought after.

The Beatles — 1962-1966 (‘The Red Album’) and 1967-1970 (‘The Blue Album’)

The Beatles' 1962-1966 ('The Red Album') and 1967-1970 ('The Blue Album')
Apple Corps Ltd/Capitol/UMe

Now And Then” is the headlining new Beatles release of the year, but the legendary group also delivered some compelling reissues of two classic compilation albums. The new versions of the collections come with expanded tracklists (which includes “Now And Then”), all pressed on bold-colored, semi-translucent vinyl with stereo mixes. And if you just want the new (and final) Beatles song on vinyl, don’t worry, that’s also available in multiple formats.

The Beths – Expert In A Dying Field (Bandbox Exclusive)

The Beths
Bandbox

If you’re not following what Bandbox is doing in the vinyl space, you better get on board. The Minneapolis-based company is announcing exclusive pressings and zines from a variety of artists on a weekly basis, and our favorite of their recent announcements is this lovely pink and green pressing of The Beths’ killer Expert In A Dying Field. It’s available for pre-order now, as well as recently announced offerings from the likes of Braid and Grizzly Bear.

Various Artists — Barbie The Album (VMP Designer Edition) and Barbie The Album (VMP Kendom Edition)

Barbie was the movie of the year, but it had the soundtrack of the year, too. Given that Barbie as a brand has been a merchandising titan for decades now, the vinyl editions of the soundtrack are packed with goodies, and they come in both Designer and Kendom flavors via our friends at Vinyl Me, Please.

Polo G — Die A Legend (Reissue)

Polo G Die A Legend Reissue
Legacy Recordings

As part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday celebration earlier this month, Legacy Recordings dropped a series of reissues. It’s hard to call their Polo G offering a reissue, though: They pressed Die A Legend on “black ice” colored vinyl, which is actually the first time the multi-platinum album has ever been available on vinyl. So, if this is one you’ve been waiting to put on your turntable, you finally can.

Van Halen
MoFi

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab is in the midst of a very cool reissue series with LA icons Van Halen, and the self-titled debut is a great place to start. The company describes the restoration process as “painstaking,” mastered from the original analog tapes onto MoFi’s supervinyl. When you turn up “Running With The Devil” and “Eruption” to their max volume, you’ll be hearing Eddie’s trademark guitar as well as ever.

Legacy Recordings

Ten was a huge debut album for Pearl Jam, and they crushed it with its follow-up, Ten, too: It was their first No. 1 album and it hung into that top spot for five weeks. It’s been 30 years since that album dropped, and now Eddie Vedder and company are reissuing it in a number of different configurations; Pictured above is the 2LP “dreamsicle” configuration available via the band’s Ten Club, while other editions are available elsewhere.

R.E.M. — Up (25th Anniversary Reissue)

R.E.M. Up vinyl reissue
Craft Recordings

Up was a turning point for R.E.M., as the group’s 11th album saw them without their founding drummer, Bill Berry, for the first time. It’s already been 25 years since then, so they’ve given the album a fresh coat of paint with a new remaster of the LP, and the band also has T-shirts and other cool merch to complement your vinyl purchase.

Vic Mensa

In his review of Victor, Uproxx’s Aaron Williams wrote, “Victor gives listeners exactly what it says on the tin: A holistic look at an artist who’s come into his own at last. Vic had to go through everything he did to mature enough as an artist to synthesize those experiences into an honest, unfiltered summation of himself. This is his real autobiography — it was worth the wait.” Now, it’s available to spin at home, and includes an option for a signed copy.

Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., and Shante Taylor, now Shante Broadus, first crossed paths during their high school years at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, in California. Little did they know that their initial connection would blossom into a love story for the ages. In a 2021 interview with W Magazine, Shante revealed she was a fan of Snoop long before his musical breakthrough. “I was there with him when he started all this. Even before he came out (as a musician), our friends and I were his fans. We would always listen to his songs and give our opinions.” With the couple’s journey starting long before the age of social media and paparazzi, the two have cultivated a genuine and private connection.

1997: Snoop Dogg Says “I Do”

In June 1997, Snoop Dogg and Shante officially tied the knot at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in California. This marked the beginning of their journey as a married couple. Like any long-term relationship, Snoop Dogg and Shante faced their fair share of challenges. Unsurprisingly, Snoop’s rise to fame brought opportunities and hardships, including legal troubles that could strain any marriage. However, the couple weathered these storms together. Despite the tumultuous nature of the entertainment industry and the challenges that come with it, the couple remained committed to each other and their growing family.

In May 2004, Snoop Dogg filed for divorce from Shante, marking a period of uncertainty for the couple. He attributed the divorce to irreconcilability. In an interview with People in 2007, Snoop stated that the fame had gotten to his head. “I thought I was the man, and I was willing to give up what I had at home for that until I realized that what I had at home was irreplaceable.” They soon reconciled and rekindled the flames of their love.

2008: Vow Renewals

The couple decided to renew their vows on January 12, 2008. This public display became a symbol of their commitment to each other. Moreover, it demonstrated that love could prevail even in the face of adversity. Their marriage has lasted over 26 years and is still waxing strong.

Family First: The Broadus Clan Grows

Throughout the years, Snoop Dogg and Shante have prioritized their family and become parents to three children: Corde (born 1994), Cordell (born 1997), and Cori (born 1999). Snoop has another son, Julian Corrie Broadus (born 1998), with his mother, Laurie Hammond. The couple has dedicated themselves to creating a stable and nurturing home environment for their children. Their heartwarming and hilarious family dynamic was highlighted in the reality show Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood.

2019: Snoop Dogg Is Caught In A Cheating Scandal

The most recent bump in the couple’s relationship came in 2019. A cheating scandal featuring YouTube personality Celina Powell claimed that Snoop had cheated on his wife with her. Furthermore, her allegations were backed by rapper Takeshi 6ix9ine, who shared an Instagram post with alleged proof of the scandal. However, using his show Clout Chasers, Snoop exposed Celine for her plot to create scandals with famous people. He and Shante quickly moved past this obstacle as well.

Present Day: A Lasting Legacy

As of the most recent updates, Snoop Dogg and Shante stand firm. Evidently, they are one of the most enduring couples in the entertainment industry. Shante recently posted pictures of the family on Instagram as they celebrated her 52nd birthday.  Their love story has become a source of inspiration for fans and a reminder that, amidst the glitz and glamor, genuine connections and commitment are the cornerstones of a lasting relationship.

Suge Knight Implies That Snoop Dogg Is Connected To 2pac’s Murder

Suge Knight’s new podcast Collect Call is only a few episodes deep and it’s already dropped some bombshells. Every episode has contained numerous revelations from the currently incarcerated rap mogul. One of the most frequent topics of discussion has been 2pac. Suge has opened up on how they first formed a working relationship and detailed interactions they had throughout their involvement.

He’s also commented on 2pac’s murder, which is relevant in the news right now due to the arrest of Keefe D for his involvement in the murder. But in the newest episode, Suge may have made his most explosive allegations yet. He claims that Snoop Dogg may have had something to do with the events that led to Pac’s murder, or even the murder itself. The conversation began with a question about Diddy’s involvement, but Suge shifted it quickly. “As far as the Puffy situation, I really, really, really gotta have a real conversation with Snoop. I knew that ‘Pac did everything right by him by putting him on All Eyez On Me, speaking about him and being real with him. And if it’s true what they say, face-to-face it’s gonna be a lot of explaining to do,” Suge explained. Check out the full new episode of the podcast below.

Suge Knight Says Snoop Dogg Has “Explaining To Do”

On an earlier episode of Collect Call, Suge refuted a story that Warren G told about his role in freeing 2pac from prison. Suge went even further to claim that Warren G and 2pac never liked each other. In a later episode, he told the story of the anonymous woman who reached out to him every day to use his resources to help free Pac.

In another segment from the podcast, Suge claimed that he once took the fall for Dr. Dre on a serious gun charge. The charge could have put Dre away for quite a while but Suge took the hit so the rapper could keep working. What do you think of Suge Knight suggesting that Snoop Dogg might be in some way connected to 2pac’s murder? Let us know in the comment section below.

Forget Gin And Juice: Snoop Dogg Is Here To Save Your Boring Thanksgiving Mashed Potatoes With Hennessy

Snoop Dogg is always up to something. After making the world think he was giving up weed, he unveiled a new brand partnership with Solo Stove. This follows last week, when he and E-40 teamed up to release Goon With The Spoon, a new cookbook. That arrived just in time for Thanksgiving prep, and if you’re looking for a way to jazz up your mashed potatoes this year, Snoop has a secret ingredient for you: Hennessy.

As People notes, Snoop says of his take on the classic side dish, “These ain’t your mama’s mashed potatoes, y’all! […] I know what you’re thinking: ‘Isn’t cognac more for a concert with the Dogg rather than Thanksgiving?’ My answer to that: ‘Why not both?’”

Aside from cognac/brandy, the recipe also calls for butter, heavy cream, and mayo, meaning there should be a ton of creaminess and flavor in this spud preparation.

Check out the full recipe (via People) below and pick up a copy of Goon With The Spoon here.

“4 lbs. russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
½ cup (4 oz.) cognac or other brandy
4 Tbsp. unsalted butter
2 cups heavy cream
½ cup mayonnaise
2½ tsp. kosher salt
1 tsp. cracked black pepper

1. Bring a large pot of heavily salted water to a boil over high. Reduce heat to medium high; add potatoes. Cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 25 minutes. Drain, and set aside.

2. Return empty pot to stovetop over medium. Add cognac; cook until slightly reduced and alcohol is cooked off, 3 to 5 minutes. Whisk in butter until melted. Whisk in cream and mayonnaise; cook until slightly thickened and warm, about 5 minutes.

3. Return potatoes to the pot; add salt and pepper. Using a potato masher, mash until combined and smooth.

Serves: 10
Active time: 35 minutes
Total time: 50 minutes”

Snoop Dogg Tricks Everyone With ‘Quit Smoking’ Announcement For Latest Endorsement

2023-11-16-snoop-dogg

Meek Mill, along with fans and fellow rappers, was fooled by Snoop Dogg’s recent announcement about quitting smoking. It was recently revealed that it was a clever marketing tactic for his latest endorsement. The hip-hop icon clarified that his announcement was for his collaboration with the fire pit brand Solo Stove.

Snoop Tricks Fans & Fellow Celebs

Snoop Dogg, well-known for his love of smoking, initially shocked fans and fellow celebrities when he announced that he was quitting smoking.

On November 20, Snoop clarified that his announcement was actually for his collaboration with Solo Stove, a smokeless fire pit brand. In a video shared on social media, Snoop donned a green Death Row Records jacket while promoting the smokeless fire pit.

“I have an announcement. I’m giving up smoke. I know what you’re thinking. ‘Snoop smoke is kinda your whole thing,’ but I’m done with it. Done with the coughing and my clothes smelling all sticky icky. Im going smokeless.”

The camera would then pan to the Solo Stove and would end with Snoop laughing while roasting a marshmallow.

Fans & Celebs Fooled

The clever marketing ploy garnered mixed reactions from fans and users on X, with some applauding it as the most ingenious marketing move in recent times.

One user named @laceyboy1 commented, “Bro had the worlds stoners questioning their life choices for this ad,” and one other user named @Creat1ve commented, “The most clever marketing done in a hot minute!”

The announcement fooled fans and deceived other rappers such as Boosie. Boosie revealed during an Instagram live on November 19 that he had planned to stop smoking, aligning with Snoop’s supposed decision. Boosie claimed that quitting smoking improved his thinking and temper.

“I was smoking an ounce a day, since I don’t smoke I don’t get mad as I use to get mad, I think better, my temper controlled.”

One user on Twitter (X) named @ThorDKidd commented on Boosie’s claim of smoking an ounce a day by saying, “Smoking an ounce a day is crazy ngl.”

Meek Mill Says He’s Also Quitting

Meanwhile, Meek Mill took to Twitter (X) on Nov. 16 to announce that he will soon be quitting smoking. Meek cited advice from his doctor regarding the health risks associated with smoking and the presence of chemicals in the weed.

“Ima go to Dubai and completely stop smoking … ima follow snoop, my doctor said I got a lil bit of emphysema in [my] chest if I don’t stop smoking it cuts my lifeline in half, I was addicted to the nicotine and this new weed got too many chemicals and too risky to play with my mental!,” Meek Mill commented.

Users on Twitter (X) reacted to Meek Mill’s announcement. One user named @groovepapi commented, “This is good bro! I love seeing influential people use their influence for good things,” and one other user named @ShadTheGoddd commented, “This n*gga never reads the room. Just logs on and just starts tweeting.”

“Ight ima start Monday let’s do this!,” Leray said in one post. In a separate one ,she said “ima quit after thanksgiving.”

Snoop Dogg Shocks Fans With Decision To Quit Smoking

Snoop Dogg has stunned fans with a surprising announcement that he will stop smoking marijuana. Known for his unabashed love of weed throughout his three-decade career, the West Coast rap legend’s decision has raised questions about his health and motives.

Snoop Gives Up Smoking

On Nov. 16, Snoop Dogg took to his Instagram page to share the news, stating:

“After much consideration and conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time.”

While the hip-hop icon has previously claimed to quit smoking back in 2003, he jokingly referred to his “relapse” in a recent interview on  Jimmy Kimmel Live! Snoop Dogg’s revelation has sparked a flurry of reactions from fans and followers who expressed concern for the rapper’s well-being.

Users on social media platforms such as X shared their thoughts, with one user named @Degen_Alfie commenting, “Hope homie is ok,” and another user named @arianaunext stating, “his lungs will be thanking him.” However, some users, like @sIzro3, predicted that Snoop might face withdrawal symptoms, commenting, “Them withdrawals about to be CRAZY.”

No More Cannabis?

Despite his decision to quit smoking marijuana, the rapper/entrepreneur has not publicly disclosed any health issues or personal mental health struggles.

Throughout his career, the rapper has been a prominent advocate for marijuana, often referencing it in his rap lyrics.

Additionally, Snoop is deeply involved in the marijuana business, running a lifestyle media site called Merry Jane and even having his own strain of marijuana called Snoop Dogg OG. However, he has not indicated any plans to shut down these ventures.

The Side Effects Of Cannabis

According to a report from the American Addiction Centers, marijuana use can lead to various effects such as anxiety, panic, and increased heart rate. Long-term marijuana consumption has also been linked to respiratory difficulties, pregnancy-related risks, severe nausea and vomiting, and potential issues with brain development.

Snoop, The Businessman

Outside of being known as a frequent marijuana smoker, Snoop Dogg has also been known as a highly marketable rapper for his whole career. Snoop has had endorsements or investments for companies such as BIC, Petco, Skechers, Dr. Bombay Ice Cream, and more.

Jamie Foxx’s Health Scare

While it’s important to note that Snoop’s suspected health problems are unconfirmed, one such example is Jamie Foxx, who was hospitalized in April 2023. Foxx’s health scare led to “cloning” rumors, which he later addressed on his social media platforms.

Snoop Dogg Fans Feel Both Betrayed And Impressed After His Viral ‘Give Up Smoke’ Post Turned Out To Not Be About Weed

Snoop Dogg quit smoking weed… at least that’s what he had the world believing last week with a viral social media post that read, “After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time.” The post had some fooled, while others figured his specific use of the term “give up smoke” indicated this was actually just a lead-in for some sort of smoke-free product marketing campaign.

It turns out that’s just what it was: Today (November 20), Snoop revealed the whole viral situation was just a teaser for an ad, for Solo Stove, a smokeless fire pit company. Now that the dust (eh, smoke) has settled, people are sharing reactions online (as of this post, Snoop is the No. 1 trending topic on X, aka Twitter), and they have so far fallen into a couple different genres.

There are those who can’t believe they were fooled/those reflecting on the people who were fooled. Lil Duval chimed in, tweeting, “Snoop had all yall talking about ‘im about to stop smoking too’”; Rappers like Meek Mill and Coi Leray discussed quitting weed after Snoop’s post.

Then there are those who have to give it up for Snoop and Solo Stove and their uber-successful marketing campaign. Ice T even weighed in, tweeting, For all you MFs that hit me up saying ‘Ice! You heard about Snoop?!! He stopped!’ And I said….’Wait for it.’ Lol. Snoop is too cold. I love it.”
