Dre Dre Credits Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” For Unifying Compton

Dr Dre has seen it all and done it all. He’s one of the pioneers of G-funk, and one of the most respected figures in the history of California hip-hop. His co-sign means a lot, which is why his appearance at the Pop Out show on Juneteeth was so special. Dr Dre introduced Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” in what turned out to be an iconic moment for the genre. Dre reflected on the performance during a chat with Complex Magazine, and how it was actually more important than fans might have realized at the time.

Dr Dre was questioned about Compton’s unity, or lack thereof, during the interview. He was fed a line from Vince Staples, who claimed that Compton gangs had been more unified than the media portrayed, and that Lamar’s Pop Out Show merely shined a light on it. Dr Dre disagreed with Staples’ take, but was hopeful that the success of “Not Like Us” will bring about change. “I’m not sure if that’s true or not,” Dr Dre asserted. “But I think Kendrick was able to bring that together for that moment. Hopefully that moment can move forward.”

Dr Dre Admits Things Feel “Different” After “Not Like Us”

Dre voiced uncertainty over the future, especially given the history of gang violence in the city. “I’m not sure if that’s possible or not,” he noted. “Because it’s gonna take more than just one event to get that accomplished. Once it’s done everybody goes home to their home teams. And then they go back.” The interviewer asked whether the Pop Out felt different from Dr Dre’s perspective, and he agreed. “It does feel different,” he noted. “But hopefully it can continue.” Snoop Dogg accompanied Dre during the interview, and he was similarly enthusiastic about Kendrick Lamar’s post-“Not Like Us” success.

Snoop Dogg was more aligned with Staples’ sentiments, but noted that someone of Kendrick Lamar’s caliber was needed to showcase it. “What Kendrick did was he united the whole city based off of him being a king,” the rapper noted. “Creating peace, giving homies the opportunity to come on stage. He’s about peace. He’s about love.” Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg credited Lamar’s big picture mentality to the fact that he doesn’t belong to any one gang. “He ain’t from no gang,” Snoop noted. “He’s from a city full of gangs and he unites cities.”

LL Cool J Thinks Snoop Dogg Should Play Him In A Biopic

Although LL Cool J is dropping a new album this year, he’s also very content with reflecting on his legacy and impact within hip-hop from a retrospective stance. However, while he’s happy to indulge in his career and in his legendary status in the game, he doesn’t want to do all the steps that the industry would go through for an icon of his profile. Moreover, during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the New York MC revealed that he’s not particularly interested in a biopic or documentary on his life. If it happens, though, he has a pretty comical, fitting, and curious answer to the question of who would play him.

“I’m open to it but I’m not gonna lie, it bores me a little bit,” LL Cool J said of the prospect of a film based on his life and career. “I don’t know, I have mixed emotions about it, I don’t know, I just have a lot to do creatively and I feel like I could do a lot. It’s not that I’m against it. I’m open to doing a documentary, I’m open to the idea of doing a biopic but it just doesn’t excite me.”

Still, LL Cool J said that although this proposition slightly bores him, his career and life’s trajectory is not uninteresting at all. “It’s kind of like me turning around in the mirror with my jeans on and looking at myself. I don’t know what that means, I don’t do that a lot,” he added. In addition, LL also remarked on Snoop Dogg developing his own biographical film, and about how Tha Doggfather has expressed interest in doing the same for him. “Only under the condition that he actually plays me,” he responded to this notion. “I need Snoop to be me in the biopic. You can produce it if you do that!”

Meanwhile, LL Cool J’s guru-like perspective applies not just to his own career or that of rappers of his generation, but also to the newer guard. “This s**t is crazy,” he said of Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s battle, particularly of the “Not Like Us” cover art. “This ain’t got nothing to do with nothing, but it’s the funniest s**t in the world. It’s bananas. That kind of thinking, you have to respect that.”

Snoop Dogg Made An Eye-Popping Amount Of Money At The 2024 Olympics, He Seemingly Confirms

Snoop Dogg was the star of the 2024 Olympics. There have been rumors about how much money he earned for the endeavor, and now Snoop himself appears to have confirmed the dollar amount.

On Instagram yesterday (August 15), Snoop re-posted a video that says, “This is the main star of the Paris Olympics. Snoop Dogg, a top rapper, gets over 40 m rubles [about $447,000] daily for his presence at the Paris Olympic Games. Snoop also lives and parties in Paris for free, all to bring more attention to the Olympics. Almost every top broadcast features Snoop. He attends all major Olympic events. For 17 Olympic days, he’ll earn nearly $9 million. However, these expenses are not in vain. Thanks to Snoop, Olympic viewership rose by 79%.”

Earlier this month, venture capitalist Henry McNamara wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Sat next to an NBC exec at dinner, he said Snoop gets paid $500k a day plus expenses to be here promoting Olympics. From Gin and Juice to a few million to be a celebrity at the Olympics – what a world.”

News Nation also reported around the same time, “Word is out that the network is paying Snoop Dogg a whopping $500,000 per day, plus expenses. As the Olympics are 18 days, Snoop’s base pay is $9 million, but that doesn’t include expenses that the network is also covering. Major expenses include hotel (at $25,000 a night, that adds up to $500,000 with taxes), travel by private jet ($250,000), food, private security and transportation. The bill will likely be over $10 million.”

Snoop Dogg Unveils His Massive Olympics Earnings

Snoop Dogg’s been a big highlight at the 2024 Paris Olympics, serving as a special correspondent for NBC and adding a nice air of familiarity and fun to every screen and event he graced with his presence. Moreover, a lot of people have wondered how much he earned as a result of this partnership, with some speculating that he received $500,000 a day for his participation. But while Tha Doggfather never outright confirmed these rumors, he did recently repost a video that kind of corroborates it. On Thursday (August 15), Snoop shared a clip that pretty much sums up his time at the Olympics and its benefits.

“This is the main star of the Paris Olympics…” the clip below states. “[Snoop Dogg] also lives and parties in Paris for free, all to bring more attention to the Olympics. Almost every top broadcast features Snoop. He attends all major Olympic events. For 17 Olympic days, he’ll earn nearly $9 million. However, these expenses are not in vain. Thanks to Snoop, Olympic viewership rose by 79%.” This massive increase refers to the 34 million people that tuned into the Games’ first five days this year. This was a 79% rise in viewership compared to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, according to an NBC Sports release.

Snoop Dogg Hints At His Olympics Earnings

Of course, there are many reasons as to why people watched these Olympics more than the last. But even NBC attributes at least a big part of that ratings boost to Snoop Dogg’s presence. Not only that, but it’s natural and expected considering that he participated in so many important moments during the Games. One of the most exciting was when the Long Beach MC joined Dr. Dre for the handover ceremony, kicking off excitement for the 2028 Olympics in their home city of Los Angeles.

“Really, Snoop, he’s the superstar,” Dre remarked about Snoop Dogg. “I’m the co-star when we get on stage. It’s different when we’re in the studio, you know? I’m the captain when we’re in the studio, but when we go outside, Snoop is the guy.” Let’s see what their new album Missionary will sound like, and what else we learn about Snoop at the Olympics.

2 Chainz Is Reportedly Suing A Cannabis Company For $1.5 Million Over Several Contract Breaches

2 Chainz could be heading to court. The “Kingpen Ghostwriter” rapper reportedly found himself at the losing of a business deal.

According to Law 360, 2 Chainz (real name Tauheed Epps) has filed a lawsuit against the cannabis company, Pineapple Express dispensary.

In the documents obtained by the outlet, 2 Chainz alleged that after investing $1.5 million into the business, it fell through on its promises to him. Within the filing, 2 Chainz claimed that he was guaranteed a dispensary storefront by April 2021, but several delays pushed its opening to March 2022. However, at this time, it is currently closed.

Another area of contention listed in the paperwork was dividend terms. 2 Chainz claimed that his investment would garner him a monthly dividend, which he would be allowed him to withdraw up to 110% with 30 days’ notice. However, when 2 Chainz attempted to request his funds in May 2022, the company did not pay out. By December 2022, 2 Chainz reached out to the dispensary’s co-founder, Vincent Zadeh. 2 Chainz alleged that Zadeh told him that their deal would no longer he honored.

With a plethora of successful business deals under his belt, fans are wondered how he found himself caught in in this legal mess. The document stated that the venture was introduced to 2 Chainz by fellow cannabis connoisseur, Snoop Dogg’s tour manager Damien Roderick.

In a statement provided to SFGATE, Pineapple Express’ co-founder, Matthew Feinstein clapped back at the claims made in the filing. Feinstein says, 2 Chainz’s lawsuit included “false claims,” including that he owed money. He also went on to say that this case would be handled privately, through arbitration.

Dr Dre Blasts Olympics For Not Having Better Breakdancers In Competition

Dr Dre had lots of connections to the 2024 Olympics. His frequent collaborator, Snoop Dogg, was a torch bearer and meme machine during the games. Dre performed alongside Snoop during closing ceremonies. Plus, the next Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, meaning Dre and Snoop will effectively be everywhere. The legendary producer enjoyed the games for the most part, but he had huge problems with one competition in particular: breakdancing.

Dr Dre has been a hip-hop star since the 1980s, so he knows a thing or two about the four elements. He did not like (or recognize) what he say, however, during the Olympics. “I did not like that,” Dre explained to Entertainment Tonight. “It’s so many great breakdancers that I don’t know why they had this particular person doing that.” The person in question was “Raygun,” an Australian woman who went viral for being, well, bad at breakdancing. She got zero points from the judges, and became a meme overnight. Dr Dre admitted that the Raygun bit was funny, but lamented what could have been a real opportunity for a real dancer.

Dr Dre Thought ‘Raygun’ Mocked Breakdancing

“It was funny, I got some laughs out of it,” Dr Dre conceded. “But what the f*ck? There are incredible breakdancers out right now; I don’t know how that happened.” Dre wasn’t the only producer who had a problem with Raygun’s performance. Pete Rock hopped on Twitter during the breakdance competition and mocked the dancer’s moves. “Ooohhh sh*t,” he wrote. “Wait, that bunny hop kangaroo sh*t she was doing took me way down to floor. This is so messed up.” Dr Dre is going to do his part to ensure that the 2028 Olympics will be taking things a bit more seriously. How? Well, he plans to compete as an athlete.

Dr Dre told Entertainment Tonight that he plans to try out for the U.S. archery team. “I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a setup,” he explained. “I don’t know if it’s for my birthday or Father’s Day or something like that. So I have it set up in my backyard.” The producer noted that he first developed a passion for archery in middle school. “Wouldn’t that be interesting to go, especially with it being here in LA, and win the gold medal,” he pondered aloud. One thing’s for sure: he can’t do worse than Raygun.

Dr. Dre Explains How His Relationship With Snoop Dogg On Stage Is The Opposite Of Their Studio Dynamic

Dr. Dre found himself making a surprise appearance during Snoop Dogg’s 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony performance this past weekend. He and Snoop are a natural pair on stage, although how they operate in that environment flips when they enter the studio.

Dre told ET:

“It’s magical. I don’t even feel comfortable performing without Snoop. Something about the synergy that me and Snoop have is really interesting. […] Really, Snoop, he’s the superstar. I’m the co-star when we get on stage. It’s different when we’re in the studio, you know? I’m the captain when we’re in the studio, but when we go outside, Snoop is the guy.”

He also spoke about how the performance was kept secret, saying, “The Olympic Committee, they handled that. I was wondering how they were gonna do that and nobody had cell phones or anything like that. It was filmed the day before it aired. So trying to keep that a secret for that amount of time seems like it would’ve been impossible, but they made it happen!”

Elsewhere, he talked about the album he and Snoop are making together (which Snoop teased earlier this year). Dre said, “Me and Snoop working together again, and it’s been 30 years, believe it or not. I’ve only produced one album with Snoop, which was Doggy Style, and that was 30 years ago. We’ve done a lot of things in between and songs and performances and films and things of that nature, but this is my first time actually producing an entire album with him.”

Dr. Dre Shares Exciting Update Surrounding Upcoming Snoop Dogg Collab Album

Well, it’s now August 13 and we still do not have Missionary, the collab album between West Coast icons Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. There was a little hope that Tha Dogg Pound was actually on the money with their claims. Daz Dillinger and Kurupt told the Drink Champs panel this in early June and it had us excited that it was dropping really soon. “Dogg sacrificed ’cause he got an album dropping in July. This album with Dr. Dre dropping in July”, Kurupt stated. Daz doubled down, adding, “He got an album coming out next month with Dr. Dre”.

For whatever reason, their words never became reality, but we do have a new update from one of the LP’s creators this time. According to AllHipHop, Dre had a chat with Entertainment Tonight and during it, he really hyped it up. Despite putting out a timeless classic with Doggystyle about three decades ago, the famed producer and rapper feels this work maybe even of higher quality. “This one is gonna show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music,” Dre claimed.

“I feel like this is some of the best music I’ve done in my career”. Perhaps helping aid the studio sessions was the fact that the 2001 creator felt that he’s been in higher spirits. “[It’s been] much more fun”. These are all exciting tidbits to learn about, but hopefully we get the release date soon. As of now, there’s some speculation from Genius that November might be the month we receive Missionary.

What are your thoughts on Dr. Dre hyping up him and Snoop Dogg’s upcoming album Missionary? Do you think this could eventually be recognized as a better album than Doggystyle? Is this going to be one of the best hip-hop records of the year? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. These Are Snoop Dogg’s Best Moments Of The 2024 Olympics

The United States just wrapped up an exceptional run at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The US walked away from the games tied with China for the most gold medals (with 40), and well ahead of the pack for most total medals (126 to China’s 91).

Perhaps the biggest star of the Olympics, though, was Snoop Dogg. The rapper, simply, was everywhere as part of NBC’s broadcast team. Now that the Olympics have officially come and gone, let’s take a look at some of the best moments of Snoop’s time in France.

Carrying The Torch

Snoop had the honor of being an official torchbearer before the games began. As he tends to do, he had a hell of a time. Fans also had fun with the moment on social media, as they couldn’t help but come through with torch jokes, mostly either suggesting Snoop use the fire to light a blunt, or comparing the torch itself to one.

Simone Biles’ mom

At one point, Snoop had to confront a demon from his past (check out the video here). Of course, it was low-stakes, but funny: Simone Biles’ mother hilariously called Snoop out for blowing her off one time years ago, and everybody had a good laugh.

The Louvre

When in Paris, you have to visit the Louvre, one of the world’ most famous museums. Snoop did just that and did everything from calling himself Mona Lisa’s twin brother Tony Lisa to actually noticing subtle differences in art.

Gin & Juice

Snoop went viral a few years ago for his love of equestrian dressage, so of course, NBC didn’t let this year’s Olympics go by without getting Snoop’s thoughts on some horses. This year, a horse named Gin & Juice competed, and Snoop, naturally, was delighted to no end.

Swimming

Snoop didn’t just watch sports, as he found some time to try one out: Swimming. He swam with Michael Phelps, and Snoop quickly learned that swimming is more challenging than it looks. Perhaps the most impressive person in this situation, though, was whoever managed to get all of Snoop’s hair into a swim cap.

Closing Ceremony

The Olympics officially wrapped up yesterday (August 11), and while Snoop was largely a fish out of water during the games, he was in more comfortable territory when he performed during the closing ceremony (technically, his pre-taped performance from California took place on August 10). He had one last surprise, too, bringing out Dr. Dre to perform “The Next Episode.”
