On Lil Yachty’s latest album, Let’s Start Here, the musician explored his inner rocker. But don’t think he has completely turned away from rap music. With the release of his new single, “Slide,” Yachty effortlessly glides back into the genre. As GENT! and Bangs’ production still pulls from the psychedelic elements of Let’s Start Here, it is the bravado of hip-hop that makes “Slide” pop.

In the official video for the track, Yachty and the visual’s director provide fans with a subtle reminder of how much cooler he is compared to other rappers. Whether he’s lounging around eating pizza or hanging out with friends, Yachty isn’t fazed by what others are doing because he’s in a lane all his own.

That mindset shows up throughout the song’s lyrics, especially in the stanza, “Yeah, keep it intact, all of my n****s know just how to act (Yeah)
These n****s act like thеy ain’t never had b*tches, thеy ain’t keepin’ it player (‘Kay) / Beatin’ that sh*t out the square, ain’t even playin’ it fair (Yeah) / Ain’t gotta worry, ain’t sayin’ sh*t, shit like I wasn’t even there (Huh).”

This “cooler than the other side of pillow” energy is sure to show up when Yachty hits the road in the fall for his Field Tribe Global Tour.

Janelle Monae Cools Off With Sultry Style In “Water Slide” Music Video

Janelle Monáe’s “Water Slide” is one of the most infectious, gorgeous, and summery songs on her latest album, The Age Of Pleasure. Of course, that’s quite a feat, since those three descriptors basically run through the entire project without skipping a single beat. Still, it’s fitting that one of the LP’s catchiest and most easy-going cuts got the official music video treatment, which just released on Friday (July 7). Moreover, Monae and a big group of friends spend a refreshing and scantily-clad day at the pool, with some wearing nothing but pixels over themselves. With an unbearably hot summer upon us, this is exactly the kind of video that we needed.

Visually, it’s quite old-school, with a grainy look, an old-school aspect ratio, and occasional frame flashes and lens flares that make you feel like you’re watching a vintage film recording of a group of friends’ day in the sun. Also, some of the underwater shots, however brief, are beautifully crisp, and it’s probably the inspiration (or rather, the same shot) for the album cover itself. Janelle Monae plays guitar, waters a plant that becomes a dancing boxer-clad human, enjoys a smoke, and dances the day away in “Water Slide.”

Furthermore, this will probably remind fans of her previous music video for The Age Of Pleasure, “Lipstick Lover.” That track is another highlight off the album, and this one’s visuals match the energy of the instrumental so well. For example, the drums and guitar give the track a beach-infused reggae leaning that keeps your body swaying from side to side. As expected, Janelle Monae’s vocal harmonies and melodies are as sweet as they are powerful, and the chorus refrain will get stuck in your head.

Meanwhile, this video also features some special guests in Angelica Ross and Jillian Mercado. However, one that hip-hop fans might’ve missed but is impossible not to talk about is rising star JELEEL! He does a fantastic spin dive in the water before emerging with a rose between his teeth for Monae. All in all, “Water Slide” will have you diving into a body of water as fast as possible. Calvin Harris Pays Tribute To Takeoff At Coachella With New Version Of “Slide”

Calvin Harris honored the late Migos rapper Takeoff during his set at Coachella on Sunday night by performing a new version of the track, “Slide.” Harris included the original song on his 2017 album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. It featured Offset, Quavo, and Frank Ocean. During Sunday’s performance, Harris played a version adding the third Migos rapper.

At the end of the track, Harris added Takeoff’s verse from their collaboration on the Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 song, “Holiday.” It was the first time fans got to hear all three Migos artists featured on the single, which reached 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 when it released.

The tribute comes over five months after Takeoff was shot and killed outside of a bowling alley in Houston, Texas in November. He was just 28 years old. Harris wasn’t the only artist to honor Takeoff over the weekend. His Migos partner, Offset, also showed off a massive back tattoo he got to pay tribute to him. “Love you 4L & after,” Offset captioned a picture of the tattoo on Instagram. He added rocket, heart, and dove emojis. The tattoo is a massive portrait of Takeoff that spans nearly the entirety of Offset’s back.

Offset, who is also Takeoff’s first cousin, previously reflected on the passing of the rapper in a lengthy Instagram post from November. “The pain you have left me with is unbearable,” Offset wrote at the time. “My heart is shattered and I have so many things to say, but I can’t find the words. I’ve been going to sleep and waking up hoping that all of this is a dream, but it’s reality, and reality feels like a nightmare. I know someone with a soul like yours is in heaven now. I hope you can see how much we love you and miss you. You have left a hole in my heart that will never be filled.”
