[WATCH] Shenseea Grabs Akon’s “Locked Up” for a Surprise Freestyle

Shenseea Delivers Surprise "Locked Up" Freestyle

Ahead of her debut Coachella performance, Jamaican artist Shenseea has dropped a surprise “Locked Up” freestyle. The freestyle video is the first from the We Good production company.

The freestyle and forthcoming Coachella appearance from Shenseea is on the heels of her Rolling Loud LA set and headlining a show at the Kings Theater in Brooklyn, NY. Last year, Shenseea released her highly anticipated debut album, Alpha, which debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Reggae Album chart and featured Megan Thee Stallion, 21 Savage, Offset, and more.

You can see the full freestyle below.

Shenseea Fires Shots At London On Da Track’s BM On New Freestyle

Shenseaa found herself engaging in a war of words with the mother of London On Da Track’s child. Eboni Ivori came through with some serious accusations in late 2022 when she alleged Shenseea’s son acted inappropriately with her daughter. Though she didn’t detail exactly what went wrong, she demanded that the artist and her son stay away from her. “Shenseea, you and your little nasty son stay away from my daughter,” she posted on Instagram Story.  “Shenseea, you need to talk to your son and take him to therapy before he grows up and gets into real trouble.”

The cause of the rift remains unclear, though it continued to spur reactions on both sides. London On Da Track chimed in on Twitter before Shenseea issued a cease-and-desist order preventing Ivori from speaking on her or her son. The document demanded that she stops “engaging in the lawful and abusive behavior” towards the Jamaican singer and “issue an apology.” In response, Ivori said that she had no reason to apologize, especially when she claims it was Shenseea and her son who were in the wrong.

Shenseea Responds On Wax

Though Shenseea and London On Da Track have ended their relationship, Shenseea still had more smoke in the chamber. On Wednesday, she dropped off her “Locked Up Freestyle” over Akon’s iconic record. Though Shenseea came through with another show-stopping verse, she squeezed in a few bars that seem to be directed towards Ivori. “Hard fi hold my tongue, sorry, I’m just a mom/ Tell di baby mother mi will go a jail fi mi son,” she raps.

Shenseea’s shots seemingly came out of nowhere, especially since this issue hasn’t necessarily surfaced online since December. Perhaps, that’s partially due to the cease-and-desist. However, the document didn’t necessarily indicate that Ivori couldn’t share her opinion on Shenseea’s music. Shortly after the song dropped, Ivori appeared to be unfazed by the diss, writing, “Can’t rap booo,” along with five tomato emojis. Perhaps, this will be the end of their back-and-forth. Prince Harry Says Shenseea’s Music Helped Him Through Dark Times

The world is getting an inside look at the Royal family thanks to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The pair has been ostracized by purists who have slammed the couple for abandoning their expected Royal duties. Harry has also been labeled the “black sheep” of his family. Now, he’s spilling details of what goes on behind the scenes in his new memoir.

The famous couple’s Netflix docuseries, but that doesn’t hold a candle to Harry’s autobiography, Spare. In it, the son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana doesn’t mince words as he speaks about his family’s scandals.

In a brief excerpt from the book, Harry mentions going through dark times in his life. He says he has often been at odds with his family, and during one period, he found solace by listening to Shenseea.

“In the times I felt alone and separated from my family, I always took time to myself to sit back and listen to Shenseea,” he said. “Her lyrics resonated with me and got me through a lot.”

The British Royal didn’t detail which of the Dancehall-R&B singer’s tracks eased his troubled mind, but Shenseea gave her guess.

When Shenseea learned that Harry gave her a mention, she fired off a tweet. “I know Rebel is his song! That intro is it 🫶🏼.”

There were also several more explosive revelations from Spare. Harry additionally spoke about a physical fight with his brother, Prince William, and claimed he learned of Queen Elizabeth’s death after reading about it on the BBC.

Spare is slated for release on January 10.

Calvin Harris Announces The ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2’ Release Date And Features

Calvin Harris’ first Funk Wav Bounces album, which was released in June 2017, has become something of a cult favorite among dance music fans, who’ve agitated for a follow-up ever since. Harris recently began the rollout for Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, dropping its first single, “Potion” featuring Dua Lipa and Young Thug, in May. Today, he finally shared the project’s long-awaited release date: August 5. He also teased the guestlist via a short video of waves crashing on a sunny shore with the names flashing across the screen.

Those names include 21 Savage, 6lack, Charlie Puth, Chloe, Halsey, Jorja Smith, Justin Timberlake, Latto, Lil Durk, Normani, Offset, Pharrell, Pusha T, Shenseea, Snoop Dogg, Stefflon Don, and Tinashe.

Ironically, there couldn’t be a better time for Harris to return with Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, as a new wave of dance music — particularly dance music crafted by some of the world’s biggest entertainers — appears to be cresting. Just weeks ago, Drake surprise-dropped his club-influenced new album, Honestly, Nevermind, prompting a renewed interest and discussion of Black musicians in the art form, then Beyonce followed up with her new single “Break My Soul,” which even had national news programs looking up vocal house legend Robin S. to get her take on the out-of-nowhere revival of Black house music.
