Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, And Others Represent The Music World With Their 2023 Golden Globes Nominations

Rihanna ended her six-year music hiatus in late October with the powerful ballad “Lift Me Up” for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack — and tacked on “Born Again” for good measure. Taylor Swift clocked the biggest first-week tallies since 2015 and monopolized the top 10 of Billboard‘s Hot 100 with Midnights. Lady Gaga won another Grammy with Tony Bennett and set out on her Chromatica Ball tour. And now, the powers that be at the 2023 Golden Globes are supposed to choose between them.

The Best Original Song, Motion Picture category is stacked: “Carolina” by Taylor Swift for Where The Crawdads Sing; “Ciao Papa” by Roeben Katz and Guillermo del Toro for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio; “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga and BloodPop for Top Gun: Maverick; “Lift Me Up” by Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, and Tems for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; and “Naatu Naatu” by Kala Bhairava, M. M. Keeravani, and Rahul Sipligunj for RRR.

Elsewhere in the nomination field, Selena Gomez is up for Best Actress In A TV Series, Musical Or Comedy for her role in Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building, co-starring alongside Martin Short and Steve Martin for two seasons with a third on the way. The category is rounded out by Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), and Jean Smart (Hacks).

The films that make up the Best Original Score category are Babylon, The Banshees Of Inisherin, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, The Fabelmans, and Women Talking.

Other loosely music-related nominations of note are Donald Glover’s (sometimes known as Childish Gambino) for Best Actor In A Television Series, Musical Or Comedy; Austin Butler for Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture, Drama for his portrayal in Elvis; and four nods for Pam & Tommy, Hulu’s limited series revisiting everything surrounding the 1995 sex tape made by Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee.

The 2023 Golden Globes are scheduled for January 10, 2023 and will broadcast live on NBC with Jerrod Carmichael hosting.

Music’s Biggest 2022 People’s Choice Awards Winners Include Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Lizzo, And BTS

The People’s Choice Awards went down yesterday (December 6) at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, and the evening’s winner should come as no surprise. Hosted by comedian Kenan Thompson, the biggest winner at this year’s annual fan-voted ceremony was singer Taylor Swift.

Despite being notably absent, the “Anti-Hero” singer claimed a whooping three awards, including the Female Artist Of 2022, the Music Video OF 2022, and the Album Of 2022, thanks to her devoted Swifties.

“About Damn Time” singer Lizzo won for Song Of The Year and was honored with the People’s Champion award. K-pop icons BTS won both the Group Of 2022 and the Concert Tour Of 2022. “Big Energy” rapper Latto won Best New Artist of 2022. Shockingly, Becky G beat out Bad Bunny for Latin Artist Of 2022. In contrast, Selena Gomez won the Comedy TV Star Of 2022 award (for her role in Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building) and the Social Celebrity Of 2022.

The evening also featured an exceptional performance by country legend Shania Twain, who was honored with the Music Icon Award. Twain, sporting a fierce hot pink bodysuit with contrasting bubblegum pink hair, sang a medley of her greatest hits. During the set, Twain gave a nod to actor Ryan Reynolds (honored with The People’s Icon Award) as she swapped out Brad Pitt’s name for his as she sang “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”

Hailey Bieber Addresses Rumor She “Stole” Justin Bieber From Selena Gomez

Hailey Bieber insists that she didn’t steal her husband Justin Bieber from Selena Gomez, as has been rumored. The model shot down the idea while appearing on a recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast.

“Were you ever with Justin romantically at the same time as [Gomez]?” host Alex Cooper asked Hailey on the show.

(Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images)

“This is so crazy. I’ve literally never talked about this ever,” Hailey said. “A lot of the perpetuation and the hate comes from ‘Oh, you stole him.’ It’s about people knowing the truth. Because there’s a truth.”

Hailey and Justin began dating back in December 2015 for a brief period but broke things off shortly after. In June 2018, they reconciled and got engaged a month later. By that November, they were married.

“When him and I ever started like hooking up or like anything of that sort, he was not ever in a relationship, ever at any point,” Hailey continued. “It’s not my character to mess with someone’s relationship. I would just never do that. I’m not interested in doing that and I never was.”

Hailey added that she respects Selena, and the two have even spoken after her marriage to Justin.

Rema And Selena Gomez Show Off Some Laid-Back Looks In Their ‘Calm Down’ Video

Two weeks after releasing the Selena Gomez remix of his hit song “Calm Down,” Afrobeats star Rema has followed up with the official video. The simple, sweet clip pairs the two singers on a variety of sets made up like a living room, a breakfast nook, and a garage, where they dance gently as they perform the song. Both are styled in laid-back looks; Rema rocks a few button-up shirts with elaborately braided hair adorned with cowrie shells, while Selena does corset tops with slacks and jeans.

Shortly ahead the release of the “Calm Down” remix, the Only Murders In The Building star shared a promo teaser in which she said, “I’m really excited to see the person that asked me to be on a song that I couldn’t be more honored to do. The song’s fun, I hope people like it. That’s all I want.” Meeting Rema backstage at his show in LA, she encourages him to “have fun” on stage, while he admits that he’s “shaking” to meet her. The remix could certainly go a long way toward driving his popularity stateside, opening up his music to a whole new audience. Meanwhile, it’s also a great way for Selena to get her feet wet as she apparently prepares to return to the spotlight herself after sharing a video of herself in a recording studio.

Rema And Selena Gomez Share A Dreamy Remix Of ‘Calm Down’

Afrobeats superstar Rema is turning up the heat with a remix of his single, “Calm Down.” Joining him on the updated track is Selena Gomez, adding a bit of seductive flavor.

Driven by a bouncy drum and a dreamy guitar, the song features Rema finding a woman who stands out in the crowd, as he sings, “I see this fine girl, for my party, she wear yellow / Every other girl they dey do too much, but this girl mellow.”

Gomez comes in, giving into his affections, singing, “Don’t you ask, you know you’re allowed / When it’s you, I can’t say no.”

In an interview with Complex UK, Rema talked about becoming an Afrobeats sensation and helping popularize the genre in the US at just 22 years old.

“…I want to thank God for getting me this far,” he said. “Being able to travel from territory to territory and share my music with people, that’s a big thing for me, my generation and Afrobeats. I’m just playing my part in this whole movement; I’m making my impact the best way I can. Most of all, I’m just grateful to see people appreciate my hard work and ambition.”

Serena Williams Invests Millions Into Actress Selena Gomez’s Wondermind Media Company

Serena WIlliams

Looks like Serena Williams is wasting no time when it comes to the projects she will take on post-retirement, which appears to be focusing on her Venture Capital company Serena Ventures. The Grand Slam Champion has invested $5 million in actress Selena Gomez’s company Wondermind. A media platform that was created to help change the narrative around mental health, including depression, addiction, and even suicide. In addition to her investment, Williams will work alongside Wondermind which is already valued at $100M to promote the brand and will also be involved in content creation.  In an Instagram post (see below) shared by Selena Gomez on Monday, the tennis icon, Serena, and former Disney star, Selena Gomez discussed the topic of “mental fitness” for their newest mental health platform, Wondermind.”Mental fitness for me is just really learning to shut down,” Williams, 40, said. “And you know I did this years ago before even mental health was a topic among everyone’s mind. She says. “It was more just like, alright, I’m shutting myself down today. Just subconsciously, it was something I’ve always done, and so now that I know that it’s so important to just put yourself first, especially mentally, I always have shut down moments. I have serious boundaries and I don’t let anyone cross those boundaries. “For me, it’s so important to make sure, every day, I have a period of, like … it’s so bad because I really don’t do anything for me, I’m terrible at that! And I’ve said it time and time again – I’m working on it. But more or less, at least prioritizing what I need to do,” added Williams, before concluding, “And then when I’m turned off, I’m turned off.”

According to a University of Houston report, suicide rates have been increasing among Black men and women, showing how important it is for Black Americans to take mental health seriously.  Gomez, who suffered an emotional breakdown in 2018 and revealed in 2020 that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, has previously discussed her issues with depression and anxiety. The Only Murders in the Building actress is now helping others deal with their mental health issues.   Serena Ventures has invested in numerous diverse companies, including a wig company, Boss Beauties, Kiira Health, and many more.

Steve Martin’s ‘Only Murders’ Track ‘Angel In Flip Flops’ Gets A Sunny Music Video Featuring An Excellent Perm

In a last-minute effort to create the song of the summer, Steve Martin and the Only Murders In The Building team have cooked up what’s sure to be the best track of 1989! Just kidding, but Hulu has been going all-out with their music production here. In the most recent episode of Only Murders In The Building, the crime-solving trio learned about Martin’s character Charles’ hit track from way back in the 1980s.

“Angel In Flip Flops” is a summer anthem, featuring Charles and his beachy hair on guitar singing about his summer love, who happens to be walking around in a pair of flip flops, as one does in the 80s.

Hulu released a music video for the world-famous song, which has been sampled by “like, 50 rap stars” according to Charles’ step-daughter (played by Zoe Coletti). The video features some much-needed context: “The year was 1989 and Brazzos’ single, Angel in Flip Flops, was riding high on the charts… until the Berlin Wall came down.” As we learned in the episode, the song was a hit in Germany, charting at number 83, just before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Co-creator John Hoffman told Decider how the some came about. “When the notion came up in our writers’ room of Charles-Haden Savage, at the height of his success with his original Brazzos series, maybe having recorded an album that did really well in Germany before the Berlin Wall fell, we knew we had to talk further about it — immediately!” Hoffman explained. “When we shared this idea with Steve Martin — well, I think it was a day (if even?) before Steve had a title and a tune making its way through his genius mind and we were more than off and running.”

Of course, Charles’ friends Mabel and Oliver (Selena Gomez and Martin Short) did not think the song was genius. “I’m such a huge fan of terrible music. How have I never heard this?” Oliver says as they are listening to the track on vinyl. At least he has a nice perm on the album cover!
