Young Dolph’s “Dolph Day” Heading To Multiple Cities To Honor Rapper’s Memory

Today (Friday, November 17) marks the two-year anniversary of Young Dolph’s tragic murder in his home city of Memphis. Moreover, his family, friends, collaborators, industry peers, community cohorts, and fans from all over the world poured their tributes out online. As saddening as this is, folks also took it upon themselves to celebrate the rapper’s legacy, give back to his community, and preserve his impact within his circles and beyond. As such, the “Dolph Day” weekend event on this occasion expanded to multiple cities outside of Memphis, namely Chicago, Atlanta, and Dallas.

Furthermore, these community activities consisted of turkey giveaways, basketball tournaments, restaurant partnerships, hygiene kit giveaways, holiday dinners, and more. Many of Young Dolph’s Paper Route Empire (PRE) label roster will participate in these, as well as plenty of other local rappers, businesspeople, community leaders, and the like. Also, this follows November 17 becoming the Adolf “Young Dolph” Thornton Jr. Day of Service in Tennessee and Georgia. In collaboration with PRE, his family’s estate- the Ida Mae Foundation- handled all of this planning and execution to make sure that this year’s Dolph Day was something special.

Young Dolph’s “Dolph Day” Expands

Events like these help many mournful individuals, be they famous or not, focus on the positives that Young Dolph left behind, as much as his absence is a painful reality. “Landing in Memphis and not reaching out to my potna to get the fire is cr*zy man,” Curren$y somberly shared on Twitter back in October. “Long live flipper,” he concluded with a dolphin emoji. However, Dolph Day is an opportunity for folks to engage with their grief, give their respects, and share love, generosity, and humanity with each other in ways that much of rap music is unrightfully blocked from by media saturation, economic interests in perpetuating beef, and exploitation.

Meanwhile, this is taking place as the late MC’s legal case continues to develop concerning his alleged murderers. Hopefully, that case also provides some closure and justice for his family. With the heartening and strong impact that Dolph Day yields in 2023, we can only hope that we continue to honor this legacy for years to come. Kool & The Gang Drummer, George Brown, Passed Away At Age 74

George Brown, the legendary drummer and co-founder of Kool & the Gang, has passed away at 74 on Thursday (November 17). Said news came from a Universal Music Enterprises spokesperson, and follows a cancer battle that he ultimately succumbed to. However, the musician’s indelible impact in the genres of funk, soul, and so much more will never vanish, much like that of his bandmate Ronald Bell, who passed away in September 2020. Brown’s passing comes almost exactly sixty years after he and six other friends in Jersey City, New Jersey formed an instrumental soul and jazz group in 1964.

Through various iterations, shifts, and evolutions- which involved name changes, genre switches, incorporating vocals, and more- Kool & the Gang eventually became the legends we celebrate today in 1969. Five years later, George Brown and his companions had fused together their inspirations and references with the new wave of disco through chart-toppers like “Jungle Boogie.” In fact, songs like 1974’s “Hollywood Swinging” continue to be covered and revered today by many artists, most recently BROCKHAMPTON. Even though the following years wouldn’t yield immediate success, it wouldn’t be long until they continued their hit parade.

For example, there’s the iconic “Celebration,” the band’s only Billboard chart-topper, plus “Get Down On It,” “Joanna,” and many other classics. Through their catalog, Kool & the Gang’s members not only the genres they played in, but the genres that these styles birthed. Hip-hop- and, frankly, popular music at large- samples them everywhere, whether it’s early icons like The Beastie Boys, GOAT contenders like Jay-Z, or gargantuan superstars like Madonna. Thanks to the work of George Brown, saxophonist Dennis Thomas, and every other member, we have songs that are timeless today.

This year, Brown released a memoir titled Too Hot: Kool & the Gang and Me, which goes over his personal story and that of his musical journey with his friends. He always described his music as “the sound of happiness.” The percussion expert is survived by his wife Hanh and his six children: Dorian, Jorge, Gregory, Jordan, Clarence, and Aaron. The Lung Cancer Foundation of America is accepting donations in his honor. For more news and the latest updates on more musical juggernauts, whether young or old, stick around on HNHH.

Jacky Oh Passed Away Due To Surgery Complications, New Autopsy Report Suggests

Jacky Oh’s passing is still a hard event to reckon with, especially for her friends, family, and her partner DC Young Fly. New reports and speculation continues to float around the loss, with a recent TMZ report centering around an allegedly unearthed autopsy report. Moreover, according to these, the “Wild ‘N Out” star passed following complications from cosmetic surgery procedures. She went to Miami in May of this year for liposuction and a BBL (fat transferred to her bottom) on the 30th, for which doctors prescribed her ciprofloxacin (antibiotics), oxycodone (painkillers), and ondansetron (an anti-nausea medication).

Furthermore, Jacky Oh complained of a splitting headache just hours after, and asked the surgeon for a post-operative check-up. After getting a massage to mitigate the discomfort, authorities advised her to take ibuprofen (pain reliever) and stop taking the ondansetron. On May 31, her aunt called 911 after Jacky had trouble speaking and said her head was “burning.” Before emergency respondents arrived, she became unresponsive and they pronounced her dead at 11pm. According to the autopsy, her brain was swollen and the skin around her torso excessively bled.

Just prior to this tragedy, Jacky Oh posted on social media that she flew to Miami for a “mommy makeover” from Dr. Zachary Okhah (the post since disappeared). While the medical professional’s response to this loss was brief and indirect, Dr. Okhah maintained that his office “emains devoted to the highest quality medical care. All aesthetic procedures are performed in a hygienically safe environment to universally recognized medical standards.” As such, it’s unclear how much more accountable those involved in this surgical procedure will be in this case.

Meanwhile, DC Young Fly posted an emotive tribute to his fallen partner, with whom he shares three children. At her funeral service in Atlanta, the city’s native recalled her legacy and character while thanking everyone who’s shown love to her in the afterlife. Her beauty brand J Nova Collection exploded with sales following her death, so much so that they had to shut down the website temporarily. Rest In Peace Jacky Oh.

Police Officer Charged With Murder Of London Rapper Itch

An unnamed police officer fatally shot rising London rapper Itch back on September 5 of last year, and might now face dire consequences for it. Moreover, following a probe by a law enforcement watchdog, authorities charged the cop (whose name is unknown for legal liability reasons) with murder, according to a Wednesday (September 20) report from The Sun. Itch, real name Chris Kaba, was 24 and expecting a child. He passed away following a high-speed police chase where he was struck by bullets and taken to a South West London hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Itch’s drill group, 67, received a nomination for MOBO’s Best Newcomer during their 2016 awards show.

“Chris was so very loved by our family and all his friends,” Itch’s family remarked in a statement. “He had a bright future ahead of him, but his life was cut short. Our family and our wider community must see justice for Chris. We welcome this charging decision, which could not have come too soon. Now we await the trial of the firearms officer without delay and hope and pray that justice will be served.”

Itch Murder Case Sees A Charge

“They’ve taken my heart,” Itch’s mother Elaine Kaba expressed in addition. “My son is gone, I’m heartbroken.” “We’re devastated, we don’t know what to think, we can’t think straight right now,” the MC’s father Prosper stated. “He was always joking around, he enjoyed life, he had lots of friends. He was looking forward to being a father. His girlfriend is still in shock. He was looking forward to teaching his daughter how to talk and walking and all fatherly duties. He had wanted to be a father for a long time.” In addition, Director Amanda Rowe of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) informed the press that the charged officer is due at the Westminster Magistrates’ court today (Thursday, September 21).

“Our thoughts remain with Mr Kaba’s family and everyone affected by this tragic incident,” Rowe said. “It’s important now that criminal proceedings are able to run their course. We would reiterate the importance of not reporting, commenting or sharing information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings.” “We have fully supported the IOPC investigation as it has worked to establish the facts,” Met Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Helen Millichap added on. “Today’s announcement is a significant and serious development. We must now allow the court process to run its course so it would not be appropriate for me to say more at this stage. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this case.”
Rest In Peace Chris Kaba.

Gangsta Boo Murdered By Her Brother, Crunchy Black Claims

Gangsta Boo’s tragic passing due to an overdose continues to be a point of contention among the hip-hop community, and one that Crunchy Black recently reignited. Moreover, the Three 6 Mafia hype man claimed that her brother E Gutta (real name Eric Mitchell) is responsible for her death. Mitchell also overdosed the night that the Memphis MC passed away and was with her, but recovered in the hospital. Still, Black cited an Instagram comment from someone who allegedly went to jail with Mitchell and made several posts alleging this conspiracy. Despite people telling him to stop clout-chasing, the 48-year-old maintained that this was true and refused to back down.

“God is good,” Crunchy Black captioned his post with the aforementioned user’s message. “He sent me this to post and sure against the boo brother we on your ass. He was in jail y’all talking about how he hate her how he going to do something to her if anybody f**k with boo. You know she had a good heart. Things that she couldn’t do, she wouldn’t going to do it. Things that she could do, you can depend on her being there for you.

Blac Youngsta Mourns The Loss Of His Brother: “Life Will Never Be The Same”

Blac Youngsta recently suffered an earth-shattering tragedy in his life that made many fans reach out with their condolences. Moreover, the rapper’s brother unfortunately lost his life in a shooting at a Memphis gas station, reports indicated. At the time that these developments emerged on social media, no outlets were able to confirm in a surefire way that it was the CMG MC’s relative who had been killed. However, he took to his Instagram Story to share a brief but saddening tribute to his brother. While it was vengeful, heartbroken, and deeply tragic, we hope Youngsta finds the strength to heal healthily and privately amid this loss.

“I Love U Baby Brother Rest Up,” Blac Youngsta wrote along with several broken heart emojis. “I’m Gone Make The World Pay. I Swear To God Nobody Safe. Standing Over Everybody. Everybody #4LIFE. Gone Make Sure They Feel Me I Promise. Life Will Never Me The Same But God Got Me. I’m The Strongest Man N The World.” Furthermore, fans and regular viewers alike shared their sympathies and hoped that his other feuds and rap beefs, or just violence in general within their community, will not result in more bloodshed.

Blac Youngsta Speaks Out After Brother’s Death

As far as the tragedy itself, it took place on Friday (August 18) at a BP station on South Parkway East around 9:30am in Memphis. Police were able to confirm the event, but not the identity of the deceased individual in question. Regardless, it seems like outlets still caught wind of the relation, as publications like No Jumper claimed that the victim was Blac Youngsta’s brother, though no official source existed for it. With this new tribute message in mind, further details concerning the shooting will likely emerge in the coming days or weeks.

Meanwhile, it’s an especially disheartening loss, given that the two should’ve been enjoying the 33-year-old’s new music releases together. Still, memories live on, and surely Youngsta will continue to pay tribute to his brother’s memory throughout his life and career. It’s a hard time for Memphis, and stories like these remind us of the importance of coming together, not driving each other apart. Pop Smoke’s Murder Reportedly Connected To Rapper Found Dead In Barrel

Even though it’s been three years since, Pop Smoke’s tragic passing hasn’t gotten any easier to reckon with. In addition, it also remains a point of mystery and contention from a case perspective, with those accused of robbing him and taking his life either confessing or still in court. However, the case just got even murkier in relation to another saddening and grim murder. Moreover, local Los Angeles rapper Sirtanky was found dead inside of a barrel on the shores of Malibu earlier this week. Sirtanky, real name Javonnta Murphy, apparently has a link to the drill rapper’s case that caused police to investigate further.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told TMZ that the following connection is just one of many possible theories and motives for Murphy’s death. Furthermore, the publication learned that Sirtanky’s brother, Jaquan Murphy, is one of the men who authorities arrested for Pop Smoke’s murder back in 2020. He was cleared of this crime, though, and is not one of the men still facing justice for their crimes. Still, Jaquan Murphy is awaiting trial as of writing this article for an unrelated homicide charge in the area.

Pop Smoke Performing In 2019

Pop Smoke Murder Connected Dead Body Barrel

As such, police are reportedly investigating this as a potentially retaliatory attack. With the case details still being quite vague, it will be hard to identify a motive without further information. Regardless, law enforcement isn’t ruling any possibilities out when it comes to this grisly cases. When they initially found out about Sirtanky’s body, they suspected “foul play” due to his body being naked. “At about 8 p.m., there’s a high tide here,” Lt. Hugo Renaya told The Los Angeles Times. “There’s a possibility that the container could have come in from the ocean and then got stuck in the lagoon. But we don’t know.”

Meanwhile, one of the men accused of the New York MC’s murder, an 18-year-old, recently confessed to the crime. Others either pleaded guilty or are still awaiting trial and judgement for their involvement in the house raid. Even though this could be connected to Sirtanky’s death after all, it’s unclear how it would impact Pop’s case, if at all. With that in mind, for more news and the latest updates on these stories, stick around on HNHH.
Rest In Peace Sirtanky & Pop Smoke.
