Terrence Shannon Jr, Illinois Basketball Star, Arrested On Rape Charge

Terrence Shannon Jr, a star guard for the Illinois Fighting Illini, has been arrested on an outstanding rape warrant in Kansas. Shannon Jr turned himself in to police in Lawrence over an alleged sexual assault incident that reportedly occurred in September. Shannon posted a $50,0000 bond and returned to Illinois, where he was subsequently suspended from team activities. This was in accordance with university policy. “The University and [the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics] have shown time and again that we have zero tolerance for sexual misconduct. At the same time, DIA policy affords student-athletes appropriate levels of due process based on the nature and severity of the allegations. We will rely on that policy and our prior experiences to manage this situation appropriately for the University and the involved parties,” Illinois’ athletic director said.

The charge stems from an alleged incident when Shannon Jr traveled to Kansas to attend an early-season football game. Illinois officials noted that Shannon Jr was “not in Lawrence on official University business, nor was he a member of the University’s travel party.” Police in Lawerence have been investigating the allegations since September but only chose to charge Shannon Jr this week.

Terrence Shannon Jr Proclaims Innocence

Since posting bond, Shannon Jr proclaimed his innocence through his attorney. “Since September, when these allegations surfaced, Terrence has cooperated with law enforcement throughout the investigation, declaring his innocence from the beginning. Now, several months later, my office learned that formal charges were filed against him yesterday in Lawrence, KS. In less than 24 hours, my client responded, and he voluntarily surrendered to local authorities for processing and release. Terrence is innocent of these charges, and he intends to take his case to trial,” Mark P. Sutter said.

Shannon Jr is the nation’s 8th-best scorer at 21.7 points per game. However, with Shannon Jr suspended, Illinois will need to play around his absence as conference play begins. Ranked No. 11 in the latest AP poll, Illinois is 9-2 on the season, only falling to then-No. 4 Marquette and then-No. 17 Tennessee. Illinois ends their non-conference slate against Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday. They then properly open Big 10 play against Northwestern on January 2.

Marcellus Wiley, Ex-NFLer And Former “ESPN” Analyst, Accused Of Rape

Marcellus Wiley, the former Dallas Cowboy and ESPN analyst, has been named as the defendant in a troubling lawsuit. An Ivy League professor alleges that Wiley “raped her multiple times in her dorm room” while they were both attending Columbia in 1994. “[Wiley’s] actions were intentionally designed to cause plaintiff severe emotional distress or were taken with reckless disregard of the significant and/or substantial probability of causing plaintiff severe emotional distress,” the lawsuit reads. Furthermore, the victim alleges that she attempted to report Wiley at the time but was rebuffed by school administrators. The victim claimed administrators “expressed a fondness for Wiley” and tried to convince her that “the event was a misunderstanding”.

At the time, Wiley was placed on “academic probation” for “poor grades”. However, more students would come forward with similar allegations about Wiley, but none of the accusations went anywhere. As a result, Columbia is also named in the suit for their “callous, negligent, reckless and deceptive response to, and handling of, plaintiff’s and other students’ allegations was an unconscionable revictimization of the plaintiff, which caused psychological injuries, financial and academic damages.”

Cuba Gooding Jr Sued

The lawsuit against Wiley was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act. The act is a state law that lets women sue their alleged abusers beyond the initial statute of limitations for the crimes in question. However, the law is set to expire tomorrow. Other high-profile cases under this law include the recent suits against Axl Rose, Russell Brand, and Diddy. Also being sued is Cuba Gooding Jr, who was sued by two women earlier this week.

Jasmine Abbay accused Gooding Jr of “forcibly kissing her without consent” when she was working as a cocktail waitress in midtown Manhattan in September 2018. Meanwhile, Kelsey Herbert claimed Gooding Jr “groped her breast” at a different Midtown bar in June 2019. “Our clients were deprived of the justice they sought in the criminal case. They are now seeking justice and accountability in their civil cases”, said the plaintiffs’ lawyer, Gloria Allred. Allred has risen to prominence in recent years, representing clients in cases against Bill Cosby and Donald Trump.

Bill Cosby’s First Accuser Files New Lawsuit

Joan Tarshis, the woman who became the first to publicly accuse Bill Cosby of sexual wrongdoing in 2014, has filed a new lawsuit against the disgraced comedian. Tarshis’ new suit alleges that Cosby drugged and raped her on multiple occasions during the 1970s. She claims the first incident happened when she was 19 and was invited to the set of The Cosby Show. The second, reportedly a year later, happened at an event where Cosby was performing. In both instances, Tarshis claims to have been drugged via a drink from Cosby and later woken to find him assaulting her. Tarshis is suing Cosby for an unspecified sum.

As mentioned, Tarshis was the first woman to accuse Cosby back in 2014. That led to the infamous interview with Don Lemon in which the CNN host asked Tarshis if she could have “stopped” Cosby forcing her to perform oral sex on him. After an incredibly awkward few moments for everyone, Tarshis admitted that she wished she could have but simply didn’t feel able to in the moment.

However, 2023 has seen an uptick in legal battles for Cosby. Back in September, Donna Motsinger claimed that Cosby had drugged and raped her after inviting to her a stand-up show. She claims that Cosby raped her in his dressing room at the Circle Star Theater. Furthermore, Motsinger alleges to remember waking up at her home in a state of undress. She is suing Cosby for an unspecified amount for emotional damage and distress.

Going back further in 2023, Cosby was also served a suit in August by singer Morganne Picard. Picard alleged that she formed a close bond with Cosby and his wife on the set of The Cosby Show. However, Picard claims that Cosby used that relationship to ply her with alcohol and rape her on multiple occasions. All of these suits are currently being litigated. Fif has made sure to joke about this on numerous occasions, even if Puff probably hates it. Now, however, Sean Combs is going through a larger legal battle. His ex Cassie recently hit him with a $30 million lawsuit with some heavy allegations. For instance, she claims that he allegedly raped her and made her have sex with numerous men.

Furthermore, Cassie made the allegation that Diddy had a hand in blowing up Kid Cudi’s car. Overall, there is a lot here and while he denies all of the allegations, the ensuing case will be interesting to watch play out. Moreover, fans have been curious to see how Fif would respond to all of this. Well, we got our answer last night as he took to Twitter with a selfie in which he looked especially confused. Conor McGregor Dodges Charges On Alleged NBA Finals Rape

Conor McGregor will not be charged after being accused of raping a woman at Game 4 of the 2023 NBA Finals. Prosecutors in Miami declined to charge the MMA fighter due to insufficient evidence and a lack of corroborating witnesses. While prosecutors acknowledged that CCTV footage showed McGregor and his accused did enter a men’s bathroom for approximately five minutes, they stated that there simply wasn’t proof that McGregor sexually assaulted the woman. Furthermore, prosecutors pointed to comments the alleged victim made to law enforcement in which she appeared to ask if they thought McGregor was likely to financially settle the case.

“After a thorough investigation, including a review of videos and interviews with eyewitnesses, the authorities have concluded that there is no case to pursue against my client, Conor McGregor. On behalf of my client, his family and his fans we are pleased this is now over,” Barbara Llanes, an attorney for McGregor, told TMZ this week. McGregor had proclaimed his innocence throughout the investigation. Furthermore, the fighter’s team had dismissed the claims from the start as nothing more than financial intimidation.

McGregor Rejoins Testing Pool

Meanwhile, McGregor is taking significant steps in his fighting career. McGregor officially rejoined the USADA drug testing pool last week. Returning to the Octagon after two years battling a leg injury, McGregor has previously been reluctant to rejoin the pool. This led many people to believe that he had been using steroids during his rehabilitation. According to the UFC’s agreement with USADA, a fighter who rejoins the testing pool must remain in it for six months and pass two random tests before they can fight again. While appeals were made to eliminate the six-month waiting period for McGregor, the anti-doping agency held firm.

It’s unknown who McGregor’s first fight back will be against. Many assumed that it would be against Michael Chandler after the two went head-to-head on The Ultimate Fighter. However, McGregor has spent his time away calling out anyone and everyone who comes to mind. That said, many people are now eyeing UFC 300 as McGregor’s return. That would give him plenty of time to fully recover, as well as arrange a fight for himself.

The ongoing battle between Kenneth Petty, husband of Nicki Minaj, and his alleged rape victim, Jennifer Hough, continues to heat up. For some background information, Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in 1995. As a result, he served over four years in prison. Furthermore, almost 20 years later, Petty still did not register himself as sex a offender. Subsequently, the judge sentenced him to one year of home confinement and three years of probation.

Fast forward to the present, Petty accused Hough of going out of her way to publicly shame him. Another important piece to this puzzle is that Hough filed a $20 million lawsuit against Petty and Minaj for terrorizing her so she could drop the case. Hough firmly believes that she has been forced to live in constant fear from the couple’s supporters, to continuously move and that it has affected her ability to work. Additionally, Hough is trying to amend her argument to bring up new evidence.

Kenneth Petty and his lawyer believe this is all a publicity stunt. Of course, though, Hough’s lawyer, Tyrone Blackburn, totally disagrees. He says, “Now, [Hough] has secured confirming evidence…she is somehow ‘acting in bad faith.’ If anything, [Hough] is acting in good faith, as she is solidifying a position that she has had concerning the rape in 1994, which is that she did not ‘lie on that man [Defendant Petty].” The evidence that Hough presented included photos of her showing where she was choked, as well as the knife that possibly was used, along with the rooms in which the forceful acts were supposedly committed by Petty.

In July 2003, a 19-year-old woman accused Lakers star Kobe Bryant of sexual assault. She alleged that Bryant had raped her in his hotel room at The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, Colorado. Bryant’s accuser, whose identity was later leaked to the media, worked at the hotel. Bryant initially denied that he had had sex with the woman. However, the discovery of physical evidence led him to change his story. Instead, Bryant claimed that he had consensual intercourse with the woman. After an arrest warrant was issued for Bryant, he surrendered to police in Colorado. Subsequently, he was formally charged with sexual assault.

The case was front-page news for months, with Bryant’s legal team painting his accuser as a promiscuous, mentally ill individual. Furthermore, multiple outlets leaked the woman’s identity, leading to her receiving death threats and other hate mail. The legal saga ended when the woman refused to testify at the trial, leading to the charges being dismissed. The following day, Bryant released an apology in which he denied that he had raped the woman. However, somewhat bizarrely, he said he understood how “how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.”

Kendrick Perkins References Rape Allegations While Hyping Kobe

Speaking on First Take in July 2023, Kendrick Perkins argued that the rape allegations, and Kobe’s subsequent bounce-back, gave the late Laker the greatest story in the NBA. “When it comes down to Kob winning three NBA championships with Shaq, Kobe was at his highest. I’m talking about when he was with Adidas, all of us had the 8s, the Kobs on our feet, rocking the Adidas,” Kendrick Perkins said. “And all of a sudden, Kob was dealing with the situation in Denver. And most people, when dealing with something when your livelihood is on the line, I wouldn’t have showed up to work, not to that capacity.”

He continued. “Kobe was still showing up to work and giving people that work on the floor, giving people straight buckets. Throughout that period he had lost endorsements, hundreds of millions of dollars, he was getting booed in every arena. He basically had to start from the bottom and work his way back to the top, and he did that in great fashion. As far as getting back his endorsements, as far as building back his reputation as one of the best players in the game, winning two NBA championships, two Finals MVPs, the list goes on.”

She alleges that security guards separated the alleged victim from her friend and forced her into a men’s bathroom. McGregor was allegedly already waiting in there for her. The MMA fighter then proceeded to “violently kiss” the woman before forcing her to perform oral sex on him, Mitchell alleges. McGregor has denied the allegations. A representative for the fighter said, “Mr. McGregor welcomes the investigation, which he firmly believes will show the claims against him are false. After not responding to the demand for money made by claimant’s counsel, she turned to the media to apply pressure. This is no more than a shakedown.”

After the story was broken by TMZ, the outlet also published a video shot prior to the alleged assault. According to TMZ, the newest video they have obtained was shot at 12:40am on the morning of June 10. It shows McGregor and his alleged victim talking inside the Kaseya Center club. TMZ claims that this video was shot around 30 minutes after the victim claimed to have been raped by McGregor. McGregor’s attorneys have once again proclaimed the fighter’s innocence based on this evidence. “”While the claimant’s story has changed yet again,” Barbara R. Llanes said in a statement, “our account of the evening has never changed. This video only reinforces our position. We look forward to the swift conclusion of the investigation.”

However, the alleged victim’s attorney, Ariel Mitchell, has provided a different side to the story. She claims that the new video shows the pair “visibly awkwardly interacting”. Additionally, she states this was not the case before they went into the bathroom. “My client has always stated that there would be video of before and after, and in those videos she emphasized that the difference in the interactions between them would be visibly noticeable,” Mitchell told TMZ. “This again is another video that supports what my client has been saying and supports what she told the police since the inception of this incident.” This is a developing story and we’ll have any updates here at HotNewHipHop.

The woman reported the assault on the morning of June 11. She was reportedly encouraged to retain an attorney by a police officer whom she spoke to at the time. In Mitchell’s letter, which was sent earlier this week, the attorney lays out her client’s preferred method of restitution. According to Mitchell, her client is seeking a settlement as opposed to litigation. The letter reportedly did not specify the amount of damages being sought.

McGregor had a fairly prominent role in Game 4 of the Finals. As well as attending the game, he was scheduled to do an advertisement for a brand of pain relief spray. However, his involvement will be remembered for hospitalizing the man playing the Heat’s mascot during the promotional skit.
