Kendrick Perkins is someone who is very opinionated and is never ashamed to show that. Overall, he has had some very interesting moments on First Take. For the most part, he has actually even angered some folks with what he has to say. However, he does try to remain fair and objective on certain topics, as long as they have nothing to do with LeBron James. That said, Perkins was on First Take this morning as the show returned from the Christmas break.

Stephen A. Smith was not on the program this morning, so you know the takes had to be hot to keep fans engaged. Well, they spoke about none other than Steve Kerr, who was upset with the officiating while playing the Denver Nuggets. Kerr felt as though Nikola Jokic was trying to fish for fouls and that the officials were letting him do so. These complaints led to a take from Perkins in which he was actually quite annoyed with Kerr. Effectively, he thinks the Warriors head coach is a massive hypocrite.

Kendrick Perkins Speaks His Mind

Perkins said that the Warriors love to complain about the things that they have done for years at this point. He even invoked the lyrics of Finesse2Tymes, who once said “it’s cool when they do it, it’s a problem when I do it.” It was an interesting analogy to use although it certainly makes sense. At this point, the Warriors are a team in decline and they don’t seem to know how to handle that. As a result, they are complaining about everything, and players like Draymond Green are lashing out more frequently.

Kendrick Perkins Claims Kobe Bryant’s Comeback From Rape Allegations Gave Him “Best Story In NBA History”

In July 2003, a 19-year-old woman accused Lakers star Kobe Bryant of sexual assault. She alleged that Bryant had raped her in his hotel room at The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, Colorado. Bryant’s accuser, whose identity was later leaked to the media, worked at the hotel. Bryant initially denied that he had had sex with the woman. However, the discovery of physical evidence led him to change his story. Instead, Bryant claimed that he had consensual intercourse with the woman. After an arrest warrant was issued for Bryant, he surrendered to police in Colorado. Subsequently, he was formally charged with sexual assault.

The case was front-page news for months, with Bryant’s legal team painting his accuser as a promiscuous, mentally ill individual. Furthermore, multiple outlets leaked the woman’s identity, leading to her receiving death threats and other hate mail. The legal saga ended when the woman refused to testify at the trial, leading to the charges being dismissed. The following day, Bryant released an apology in which he denied that he had raped the woman. However, somewhat bizarrely, he said he understood how “how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.”

Kendrick Perkins References Rape Allegations While Hyping Kobe

Speaking on First Take in July 2023, Kendrick Perkins argued that the rape allegations, and Kobe’s subsequent bounce-back, gave the late Laker the greatest story in the NBA. “When it comes down to Kob winning three NBA championships with Shaq, Kobe was at his highest. I’m talking about when he was with Adidas, all of us had the 8s, the Kobs on our feet, rocking the Adidas,” Kendrick Perkins said. “And all of a sudden, Kob was dealing with the situation in Denver. And most people, when dealing with something when your livelihood is on the line, I wouldn’t have showed up to work, not to that capacity.”

He continued. “Kobe was still showing up to work and giving people that work on the floor, giving people straight buckets. Throughout that period he had lost endorsements, hundreds of millions of dollars, he was getting booed in every arena. He basically had to start from the bottom and work his way back to the top, and he did that in great fashion. As far as getting back his endorsements, as far as building back his reputation as one of the best players in the game, winning two NBA championships, two Finals MVPs, the list goes on.”

Kendrick Perkins was quick to give high praise to the Los Angeles Lakers. The ESPN analyst believes the Lakers have been crushing the free agency period this summer. Perkins isn’t the only one who seems to feel that way. Lakers star LeBron James recently shared photos of all the players involved in a free-agent move on his Instagram. The franchise realized they needed more talent to compete with a team like the reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

On Monday, Perkins appeared on First Take to praise Lakers GM Rob Pelinka. Pelinka has taken some heat in the past for not being as aggressive in bringing in free agents. However, that doesn’t seem like it is the case anymore in Los Angeles. “[Rob Pelinka is the] MVP of the free agency… What he added to this team while being able to keep the core of this group … He won,” Perkins stated. It is hard to argue that anyone is having a better off-season than the Lakers.

Kendrick Perkins Praises Rob Pelinka

Although there have been other teams find success this summer. Including the Phoenix Suns. The Suns acquired former Wizards star Bradley Beal in a blockbuster move that ultimately sent Chris Paul to Golden State. The Suns have bolstered up their roster. Making the team a massive threat to win the Western Conference. However, the Lakers and others are taking notice in making their own massive moves. The Nuggets will be tested when next season rolls around.

The Lakers desperately needed to make improvements. However, they also needed to bring back some key pieces. Bringing back Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura was vital. Kendrick Perkins isn’t ready to wave the white flag for the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland had an abysmal 2022-23 campaign, resulting in a top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. However, the current situation in the organization is to win now, not later. Trail Blazers star guard Damian Lillard has let his feelings be known on numerous occasions that the time to win is now. Because there may not be a later for Lillard in Portland. The NBA All-Star is on the fence about rejoining the team if there’s no plan to build a winner.

However, Perkins believes that the Trail Blazers can still accomplish that. In fact, the former Oklahoma City Thunder big man believes that the blueprint has already been created. “I’m challenging Chauncey Billups and Damian Lillard to gather the troops and go out there and do what the Kings and Heat did… Put the world on notice,” stated Perkins in an appearance on NBA Today. Kendrick Perkins Sees A Winner In Portland

In the clip above, Perkins exclaims that the Trail Blazers already have the pieces to be a successful team next season. With Anfernee Simons and Scoot Henderson in the mix, a young core is there. Rick Ross Supports Kendrick Perkins “Ja Morant To Miami” Take

There has been a lot of debate surrounding the future of Ja Morant. The NBA is expected to announce a punishment for Morant in the coming days after he was caught on Instagram Live flashing a gun last month. Despite claims from Morant’s team that the gun was fake, the league is expected to hand out a significant suspension.

2023-24 marks the first year of a five-year, $194.3 million extension that Morant signed with the Grizzlies. Furthermore, there is a poison pill trade restriction in place until July 1, if the Grizzlies wanted to trade. However, that hasn’t stopped speculation. Speaking on First Take, Kendrick Perkins said that he wanted to see Morant playing in Miami. “We just got talking about the Miami Heat. That’s the culture and the organization I think he should go to,” Perkins said. “They got the godfather, Pat Riley. There’s nothing that goes down in that city without him knowing about it.”

Morant to Miami is an interesting, if unlikely, proposal. While the organization would likely be a good informative culture for Morant, it’s hard to see them swinging a trade. First, there are Morant’s behavioral issues. Riley runs a fairly no-nonsense organization, so it’s difficult to see him bring in a rehabilitation project like Morant. Second, Miami is already $87 million over the salary cap and eyeing a blockbuster trade to acquire Bradley Beal.

However, the proposed move has gotten very prominent vote of confidence. Taking to Instagram, Rick Ross posted a simple message to his story. “I can mentor #jamorant in Miami’. While somewhat unorthodox, especially given the recent news of Morant rejecting outreach from the likes of Lil Wayne, it could be just what Morant needs. An influential figure like Ross could get through to Morant in a way that an exec or cultural administrator like Riley couldn’t. So, while the move is unlikely, it’s good to know that there are people willing to help facilitate Morant’s rehabilitation, even if that means moving him away from Memphis.

Stephen A. Smith and JJ Redick have proven to be a fun duo on First Take. Although they do get into their fair share of arguments, the show is at least interesting. Overall, they make for great TV, and Smith has not been challenged like this since Max Kellerman was on the program. Redick brings that firsthand NBA experience to the show, while Smith has his journalist lens. It makes for a solid dynamic that is only backed up by just how compelling the NBA Finals have been.

Additionally, Kendrick Perkins makes the show a lot of fun as well. Perkins is someone who is quick with the hot takes, and he clashes with JJ Redick quite a bit. However, if you watch First Take, you know that Perk is always making noises in the mic. He breathes incredibly loudly, and it can be very distracting. “Perk, is that you moaning in my ear over & over again?” Redick asked with an annoyed tone. Subsequently, Smith followed this up by saying, “Yeah, I know. I was getting ready to ask that. You sound like you got sleep apnea, Perk.” Overall, it was a pretty hilarious moment as Perkins got ganged up. Although, it is clear that he took it all in stride and kept it moving. In the future, however, the First Take crew will need to find a way to mute his mic whenever he isn’t talking. Otherwise, this will continue to be an issue for the foreseeable future.

Heading into this game, most people believe the Celtics will end up winning. Overall, this is due to the fact that they have momentum on their side. Moreover, the Heat look pretty cooked right now. They can’t hit big shots, and Jimmy Butler has been outplayed. Not to mention, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown should be enough for the team to get over the hump and win. All-in-all, the pundits have the Celtics pulling off the comeback of the century.

Kendrick Perkins Would Love To See JJ Redick Coach In The NBA

Kendrick Perkins and JJ Redick haven’t always seen eye-to-eye. With both serving as ESPN contributors, they have often taken opposing sides on hot-button issues. In March, they notably clashed when Perkins claimed that MVP voters value Black players less. However, that doesn’t mean the two of them actively dislike each other.

Furthermore, Redick could be leaving ESPN in the near future. The 15-year NBA veteran has reportedly been interviewed by the Toronto Raptors during their head coach search. However, Redick is just one of several candidates being considered by the Ratpors and there is no evidence to suggest that he is a front-runner. That hasn’t stopped Perkins from sharing his thoughts on the potential hire.

Perkins Supports Reddick Interview

Speaking with TMZ, Perkins put his full support behind Redick potentially landing an NBA coaching gig. “I honestly love it,” Perkins said about Redick’s reported meeting. “One thing about JJ is that he knows his shit. Also, on top of that, every time you see a former player who played the game get an opportunity to sit in that seat, you love to see it. Obviously, he’s jumping ahead of a few guys who I would love to see get an opportunity that’s been waiting in line. You hate to see it because those guys have been serving as assistants for 15, 20 years. But I still wanna see a guy like JJ do it.”

Redick is certainly an unorthodox choice. Despite this 15-year career in the NBA, Redick has no coaching experience at any level. He has previously garnered interest from teams, such as the Boston Celtics, but opted to pursue broadcasting rather than coaching. That could put him at a disadvantage compared to some of the other candidates. Fellow outside candidate Becky Hammon spent eight years with the Spurs before taking a WNBA head coaching position. Kenny Atkinson spent four years as head coach of the Nets. Redick is the only currently-named candidate without any coaching experience on his resume. However, that’s not going to stop Kendrick Perkins from believing in him.

Kendrick Perkins had the same reaction as every fan that watched the Warriors and Kings on Sunday. The pivotal Game 7 matchup saw Steph Curry and the Warriors once again make playoff magic. The Warriors took down the Kings 120-100, giving the team another day as reigning league champions. But the performance isn’t just being filed in great playoff performances. Because Perkins had plenty to say about Curry and the Warriors dynasty moving to the second round.

“That was one of, if not the greatest, Game 7 performances I’ve ever seen… When I look at Steph Curry and the performance that he had today, I’m like, ‘Did he just crack the top 10?’ And the answer is yes. That was a masterpiece.” Perkins believes Curry’s performance on Sunday was one of the greatest of all time. As well as cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players to ever play the game. Many were ready to write off the Warriors when the series with Sacramento became official. However, the team had other plans.

Kendrick Perkins understands how serious the De’Aaron Fox injury is. It was announced on Monday that Fox has fractured his index finger in his left shooting hand. The injury will for sure put the Kings in a tough spot in winning the series over the Golden State Warriors. However, Perkins believes that Fox could play through the injury. Because the former NBA big man has dealt with an injury like this before. While discussing Fox’s injury on NBA on ESPN, Perkins showed off his damaged finger for the audience.

Perkins’ finger looks like it never properly healed. Leading one co-host of the show, Richard Jefferson, jokingly telling Perkins to “Don’t do that on TV!” Everyone involved in the segment gasped when Perkins revealed his bust finger to the camera. The image of Perkins’ finger can put into perspective just what Fox is dealing with. Yes, Perkins is probably having a little fun at the expense of himself and that finger.
