However, he does try to remain fair and objective on certain topics, as long as they have nothing to do with LeBron James. That said, Perkins was on First Take this morning as the show returned from the Christmas break.

Stephen A. Smith was not on the program this morning, so you know the takes had to be hot to keep fans engaged. Well, they spoke about none other than Steve Kerr, who was upset with the officiating while playing the Denver Nuggets. Kerr felt as though Nikola Jokic was trying to fish for fouls and that the officials were letting him do so. These complaints led to a take from Perkins in which he was actually quite annoyed with Kerr. Effectively, he thinks the Warriors head coach is a massive hypocrite.

Steve Kerr addressed the indefinite suspension of Draymond Green after the Warriors dropped their third consecutive game on Thursday night. “The one who choked Rudy, the one who took a wild flail at Jusuf, the one who punched Jordan last year — that’s the guy who needs to change. This is not just about an outburst on the court. It’s about his life. It’s about someone who I believe in, someone I have known for decades, who I love for his loyalty. There is a lot of this that has to happen with people who are experts in this field. My role in this is to support Draymond as best I can. We want to give him the space, time and assistance he needs to make a significant change. We’re not qualified to offer some of the things he needs,” Kerr said.

However, some believe that the Warriors are no longer in a position to help Green. Sources who spoke to ESPN this week said the Warriors had “lost their leverage” with Green after failing to adequately punish him for punching Jordan Poole last season. Stephen A. Smith said on First Take that “no one would blame” the Warriors if they sought to trade Green.

However. Kerr wasn’t the only person to address Green’s suspension Thursday night. “I have empathy for him. You see somebody that’s not well inside and suffering. You take away the game and all that, and you want somebody to be well and be able to do what we do every night and compete and be happy,” Rudy Gobert told ESPN.

However, Gobert, who was placed in a chokehold by Green during an altercation last month, believed the indefinite suspension was necessary. “I’m not sure what that really means, so it’s hard to tell. I mean, you don’t want someone to get badly hurt. You’ve got to fix that. That’s it,” Gobert said. Furthermore, the Warriors lost their first game of Green’s latest suspension, falling 121-113 to the Clippers.

Steve Kerr has publicly supported the five-game suspension leveled against Draymond Green. “He took it too far. Draymond was wrong. He knows that. It’s a bad look, and the five games are deserved,” Kerr said Thursday night. Green picked up the longest suspension of his career after putting Rudy Gobert in a chokehold earlier in the week. Three other players, including Gobert, received $25,000 fines but no suspension. The severity of Green’s behavior, plus his history of “unsportsmanlike conduct” contributed to the length of his ban.

“I don’t have a problem with [Green] trying to get Rudy off of Klay … but he’s got to let go. He hung on for six, seven seconds. It was a terrible visual for the league, for Draymond and for everybody. Draymond has to find a way to not cross the line. I’m not talking about getting an ejection or a technical, I’m talking about a physical act of violence. That’s inexcusable. We have to do everything we can to give him the help and assistance he needs to be able to draw that distinction between being an incredible competitor … but he can’t cross that line. He crossed it the other night, for sure,” Kerr added. Green was most recently suspended after stomping on Domantas Sabonis during the 2023 playoffs.

However, he went on to specifically call out the Green-Poole fight as the inciting incident. “There’s no hiding from it — the incident with Draymond and Jordan at the beginning of the year played a role in that,” Kerr said. “It’s hard for that not to impact a team.” However, Kerr stated that he is eager to rebuild that trust and move forward with both players on the team. “Look, if Draymond is not back, we’re not a championship contender,” Kerr said. “We know that. He’s that important to winning and to who we are. I absolutely want him back.” 2023/24 is a player option year for Green, meaning that his future with the Warriors lies solely with him.

Steve Kerr Wants a Warriors Home Game on Christmas Day

“Since we left shootaround, 14 children were killed, 400 miles from here. And a teacher,” Kerr said, referring to the mass shooting that occurred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, earlier Tuesday.

According to a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, the death toll has since risen to at least 19 children and two adults. The 18-year-old suspect, a student at Uvalde High School who entered the elementary school with a handgun and possibly a rifle, is also dead, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

It was not immediately clear how many people were wounded, but the school district’s police chief, Pete Arredondo, said there were “several injuries.”

“When are we going to do something?” Kerr yelled, slamming his fists on the table. “I’m tired. I am so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families that are out there. I am so tired of the excuse, I am sorry, I am tired of the moments of silence. Enough!”

Kerr has been a long-time advocate of this country to have better gun laws. Kerr’s father was assassinated in a terrorist attack in Beirut back in 1984. For most of Kerr’s adult life, he has championed this country to do much better for their citizens when it comes to gun reform.
