Rihanna Provides Rare Update On New Music & Explains How The Process Is Different This Time

Rihanna confirmed that she’s working on new music during her cover story for Interview Magazine published on Tuesday. She had the conversation with the publication’s editor-in-chief, Mel Ottenberg, who used to be her stylist. This time around, she says she’s approaching the process of making music from a different angle.

“I have a lot of visual ideas,” she began. “It’s weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I’m having all of these visuals, and I don’t have the songs for them yet, but maybe that’s the key, this time. Maybe the visual ideas are leading me to the songs that I need to make.”

From there, she began trying to switch topics. “Random ideas, quirky ideas, things that have nothing to do with me at all. I mean, I can’t tell you. The opps is watching,” she joked. Ottenberg obliged and the two moved on to more innocent topics such as Rihanna’s favorite cities.

Too Short Praises Tupac’s Lightning-Fast Writing Process: Watch

Too Short worked with Tupac Shakur often throughout his career, so there are few that witnessed the greatness of his pen and performance prowess. Moreover, he recently spoke to HipHopDX at the OneMusic Fest in Atlanta last month about ‘Pac’s writing process. According to the Bay Area native, he had a unique skill of barely having to prepare before going into the booth and spitting a killer verse. Such praise also falls on rappers like Jay-Z, who are well-known for their off-top freestyles that end up being studio quality. But with Death Row’s leading star, Short maintains, there was just a special fire.

“I know you’ve heard from a million people about Tupac, man,” Too Short began his praise. “He wrote rhymes as fast as he could write words. Like, I write a rhyme- I think about it, write it down. Think about it, write something that rhyme with it. Think about it, you know, I’m writing a story, telling something, and I’m writing. But he just goes [mimics writing on paper] and he’ll go, ‘Alright, I’m ready to go in the booth.’ Like what? He can’t be ready. And it’s just dope as f**k. So I don’t how his mind was working to be able to make such prolific statements in a rhyme and then go in and put a pattern to it. And it really wasn’t like he was going in the booth and f***ing up. He’d just go in there and spit it.

“So I don’t know, some people have the gift, you know?” Too Short continued. “I saw my man Erick Sermon so many times like put on the beat, the beat bumping and he like, ‘Let me in the booth.’ Like you ain’t got a pen, paper, nothing. And he’d get in there and say some funky-a** s**t and I’m like, he just got it. Some people just got it.” Earlier this year, he shared another story of his relationship with Tupac to the 85 South Show. “I’ve been platinum before most n***as,” the 57-year-old recalled. “Shock G was the leader of Digital Underground, but Tupac was the little homie in the crew. But Tupac started coming of age and I looked at him, I liked the n***a. But I’m an East Oakland n***a, right?

“And I seen him, he used to always keep his little thing, he was not a punk,” he concluded. “He was ready for whatever. He was a real one. But I was like, ‘I cannot bring this n***a around my homies ‘cause it’s going to be like oil and fire.’ When Tupac got to L.A., he went 10,000 mph. I knew it! I was like, ‘I cannot bring this n***a around my homies.’ So I literally made a conscious effort to not ever bring Tupac to- he found his way to Richie Rich; he gave ‘Pac the town. I said I wouldn’t do it ‘cause I wouldn’t want that guilt. I can’t bring ’em around them n***as ‘cause the kind of n***as I was running with the time, they would have been like, ‘Oh you wanna be a G? Sampha Returns With “Spirit 2.0,” First Song In 6 Years

Sampha has made his long-awaited return with his first new song in six years. The English singer dropped “Spirit 2.0” for fans on Wednesday. He worked with Yaeji, El Guincho, and Ibeyi’s Lisa-Kaindé Diaz, among others on the effort. Sampha previously previewed the song during recent concerts in New York and London.

“It’s about the importance of connection to both myself and others, and the beauty and harsh realities of just existing,” Sampha said of “Spirit 2.0” in a press release. In the song, he sings, “Now I’m drifting into open skies/And I ain’t scared as before.” Check out the full song below.

He continued in the press release: “It’s about acknowledging those moments when you need help—that requires real strength. I hope people can enjoy that feeling of someone being there for you, even if that person doesn’t have the answers. Just calling someone up without overthinking… letting go and just dancing… wanting to see past the mundanity of things and appreciating the magic of it all, from birds nests to spaceships.”

Despite not releasing any solo music since his full-length debut album, Process, in 2017, Sampha has collaborated with numerous other artists in the time since. He’s appeared on Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers (“Father Time”), SBTRKT’s The Rat Road (“L.F.O.“), and Stormzy’s This Is What I Mean (“Sampha’s Plea”), among others.

As for upcoming releases, Drake recently teased on his Instagram Story that the two have something in the works. “@sampha and me cooking up something cr*zy,” Drake captioned a photo of the two of them. “Weird you lost your London accent, but whatever people evolve I guess.” Sampha has yet to confirm any details on a new album, but back in April, he released a vinyl repress of his 2013 EP, Dual, and wrote on Instagram: “Once again thank you for those who are still listening.. Tyrese Details Divorce Process

For those unaware, screen star and R&B artist Tyrese is undergoing thorough quite the arduous divorce process with his ex-wife Samantha Lee. Not only that, but the actor vocalized his thoughts and process throughout this process quite strongly, whether on social media or in press conversations. Most recently, he called his relationship with his ex-wife “just a transaction” as their court battle rages on. On that side of things, the Fast & Furious star expressed a will to challenge the judge’s decision to have him pay $650,000 in child support and legal fees to Samantha and her team. During an interview with The Shade Room at the BET Awards on Sunday (June 25), he answered a question about an update concerning his legal stance and where the courtroom’s at right now.

“Well, everything is being appealed,” Tyrese remarked. “Like, everything. You know, I don’t want to get into the legal rabbit hole. But I can just tell y’all to keep it simple. If you argue about the validity of a pre-nuptial agreement, then it’s considered a contested- that’s legal language. If we not arguing about the prenup or the validity of the prenup, it’s non-contested. Nothing to talk about. But if it’s contested, then we’re trying to creatively argue about the validity of this paperwork that we did.
