Ice Spice Speaks On Nicki Minaj Taking “Princess Diana” To New Commercial Heights

Much like many other femcees of the contemporary era, Ice Spice sees Nicki Minaj as a massive point of inspiration. Their strong collaborative bond is well-documented at this point, and fans only hope that their story together isn’t over yet. Regardless, the Bronx MC has a lot to look forward to this year, such as her next album and more promo, media, and partnership opportunities than ever. But she took some time during a recent Billboard interview to shout out some unexpected and underrated bangers of hers. The 24-year-old remarked that “Princess Diana” was her favorite hit of 2023, but that she was disappointed that it didn’t chart -– until Roman stepped in.

’Princess Diana’ with Nicki [was my favorite hit of the year],” Ice Spice remarked to the publication. “Because I felt like ‘Princess Diana’ was already my best song on [Like…?]. But then it didn’t chart or anything until Nicki got on it. I was just so happy to have both of those worlds where I felt like it was culturally a great song, but also it charted. And then I had my dream collab fulfilled at the same time.”

Elsewhere during this conversation, Ice Spice also spoke on the most surprising commercial performances of her career so far. You might think that such a question would only focus on the positive ones, but she feels like she deserves a bit more love for one particular song. “I thought that ‘Actin a Smoochie’ would be a bigger song,” the 2024 Grammy nominee conceded. “Every time I hear it, I’m just gagged that it’s not bigger. [But] ‘Boy’s a liar, Pt. 2,’ I never thought that song would be as big as it is. I knew it would be a big moment, but I didn’t think it would be triple-platinum.”

Meanwhile, she also spoke on the creative process behind her next album Y2K and what drives her to write and record a track. “If the beat doesn’t instantly move me, like. if I don’t physically feel the beat of the speakers, then I’m just going to keep moving on to the next one,” the “Think U The S**t (Fart)” spitter revealed. “But as soon as I know, I know I have that beat. It’s up from there.” For more news and the latest updates on Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj, stick around on HNHH.

Erica Banks Calls Ice Spice “Everything” In Response To Recent Praise

Erica Banks recently returned the praise she received from Ice Spice on Twitter. Ice Spice had discussed making a viral “Buss It” TikTok challenge during an interview with Billboard. The New York rapper explained that Banks’ hit song inspired her to release her first track.

“It was so funny — I was already working on my first song ever that I was recording. I had already wrote little raps and sh-t before that, [but] it took me a lot to get to recording. I was halfway done with it when I did the ‘Buss It’ challenge. When I saw it going so viral, I was like, ‘Damn, imagine that was my song I was twerking to.’ The next month, I put out my first song and took it from there.”

“She’s everything,” Banks responded to the interview while adding several heart-eyed emojis. Ice Spice has been in the midst of a massive rise since releasing her break-out hit, “Munch (Feelin’ U),” back in August 2022. She recently teamed up with Nicki Minaj for “Princess Diana.”

Speaking further with Billboard, Ice Spice remarked that Nicki is one of her idols. RIOTUSA, one of her producers, added, “I’m listening to her. Who’s her idol? Nicki, Nicki, Nicki, Nicki, Nicki. My thing is, how do I get her Nicki? And it’s being persistent. It took months to get Nicki on board, and it happened.”

“Princess Diana” Remix Lands Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj At No. 4 On Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart

This past weekend, Ice Spice’s producer, RiotUSA, was accused of paying fans to listen to their “Princess Diana (Remix)” with Nicki Minaj. The highly anticipated track dropped earlier this month, and while it garnered plenty of attention on its own accord, social media users shared screenshots of the music maker offering them money in exchange for streams. Regardless of the validity of those claims, the numbers are certainly speaking for themselves on the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart. SZA’s “Kill Bill” from last year’s SOS album is still holding onto the top spot, and titles from Morgan Wallen and Miley Cyrus follow.

Coming in fourth place are two of our favourite rap divas, marking Spice’s biggest charting song as a lead artist so far in her short career. As XXL notes, she and PinkPantheress also made it into the top 10 earlier this year with their “Boy’s a liar Pt.2” collaborative effort. On today’s (April 25) update, it remains in the same position (having previously peaked at No. 3 thanks to growing popularity on TikTok), coming after The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s “Die For You (Remix)” and Drake’s latest official release, “Search & Rescue.”

Billboard‘s Latest Hot 100 Chart

On Monday (April 24), the “Bikini Bottom” hitmaker reflected on her latest W with a tweet. “So proud of ‘Princess Diana’ with Nicki, like my dream collab really came true. I can die happy now.” The mother of one also gave a shoutout to Spice on social media, writing, “Y’ALL!!!!! Two songs in the TOP 10 is crazy!!!!! Congratulations!!! Princesssssss @icespicee_ #PrincessDiana #HeavyOnIt.” Minaj also told the Barbz to “stay tuned,” and sent out plenty of love to her undeniably loyal fan base. “[Thanks] queen 🥰💕💕💕 We eatin’ good [tonight]!”

After dropping the first “Princess Diana (Remix)” on April 14, the duo returned four days later with six different versions of the catchy track for your listening pleasure. Among them were the “extendo clip,” sped up, slowed down, and instrumentals, as well as the 23-year-old’s original solo cut. RiotUSA Accused Of Paying Fans to Buy “Princess Diana”

This week, Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj dropped their highly-anticipated collab, a remix of Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana”. While the remix has not yet landed on the charts, it could be Spice’s third concurrent single on the Billboard Hot 100. “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” is currently at #8 while “In Ma Hood” is at #76. “Princess Diana” debuted at #22 in the UK charts while also going top-10 in The Netherlands.

However, while “Princess Diana” was a smash hit, the remix has some calling foul play. There are claims that the remix’s producer, RiotUSA, has been paying fans to stream the song in order to raise its eventual chart debut. Their evidence? A single, single-deleted tweet from the producer. Safe to say, Twitter went absolutely crazy over this new conspiracy.

Doubters Claim To Have Evidence Of Pay To Play

Fans point to a now-deleted tweet from RiotUSA as evidence of inflated sales. According to several videos posted online, the tweet read ““which big munchkin acc or barb acc can i trust to distribute funds for y’all to buy princess diana??” The tweet has met with shock from both fans and detractors before being deleted. However, detractors have gone as far as to claim they have contacted Billboard in an effort to get the song’s allegedly fraudulent chart position fixed. As the song was released in the last seven days, it is yet to debut on the charts.

But what is the truth behind the alleged pay-for-play tweet? On the one hand, the detractors could be completely right and this was a blatant attempt to artificially boost sales. However, this could also just be a poor-received joke. Looking at the situation, it’s more likely the latter. Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj are two of the most scrutinized modern artists. Therefore, it would be weird for an attempt to artificially boost their song to be so traceable. But the damage is also done, RiotUSA can’t come out and claim it’s a joke because that just leads to more drama. So instead, we must brace ourselves for the backlash when “Princess Diana” does debut on the charts.

Nicki Minaj Is Attending King Charles’ Coronation

Nicki Minaj will be sitting next to Prince Harry at King Charles’ coronation ceremony. Okay, maybe not, but she did say that she would be in a tweet. However, she was clearly just promoting her new verse on the “Princess Diana” remix. The track dropped Friday, and fans have been losing it ever since. Nicki had been rumored to collab with up and coming rapper Ice Spice for a while. The two were showing each other quite a bit of love on social media, so fans new it was only a matter of time. It also seems that Nicki may have signed Ice Spice to her record label, Heavy On It. That isn’t yet confirmed, however.

The “Princess Diana” remix doesn’t deviate significantly from the original song, apart from Nicki’s verse. Despite that, the track is impressive. The beat was already great, so there was not much of a need for further changes. However, Nicki’s verse adds a necessary variation that breaks up the track, preventing it from becoming monotonous. Now, with the differentiation between the Ice and Nicki’s parts, the song remains interesting throughout. The Queen of Rap was just what the track needed to make it a potential summer hit.

Nicki’s UK Plans

Nicki took to Twitter to joke about attending the coronation. It seems like the queen is in a good mood following the positive response to the remix. ” es, it appears there was one seat open right next to Harry,” Nicki tweeted. “I rang his telly & said: ‘You be Harry Potter, & I’ll be Hermione.’” She continued to show her humor with several follow-up tweets, delighting the Barbz who missed Nicki’s theatrical side. Nicki also took the opportunity to post a long voice note where she “spoke to” Prince Harry in her famous British accent.

“Anyway, I’m on the G – Harry, is this a G5 or a G6? Have they prepared my landing strip? We need to notify the Barbz of where we’re landing so that they could be outside waiting for me,” Nicki said in the voice note. “And when we get back, make sure to call up… Yes. Make sure she handles the press on all this. Queen sh*t. Brrr!” What do you think of the “Princes Diana” remix? Let us know in the comments!

Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj Are Pretty, Pink, And Bootylicious In The “Princess Diana (Remix)” Music Video

Hours after sharing her highly anticipated remix of “Princess Diana” featuring Nicki Minaj on YouTube, Ice Spice is back with an accompanying music video. As expected, it’s set in a pretty pink bedroom, where we see the Bronx baddie looking like hood royalty in a sparkly pink outfit worn under a feather-trimmed robe. Director Edgar Esteves is responsible for the video, which sees the redhead rocking both her signature afro as well as long, straight locks that reach all the way down to her hips. As she spits the chorus and her first verse for the camera, we see Spice in a series of rosy looks, many of them showcasing her various assets.

“Like, grrah, keep it a stack / Bitches move wock’ ’cause they know I got bands / They be chattin’, I don’t give a damn / And I’m still gettin’ money, I know who I am,” she confidently rhymes. Of course, “Princess Diana” quickly became a fan favourite when it landed on Spice’s Like..? EP earlier this year, but after seeing the close bond she’s quickly formed with Minaj, fans couldn’t wait to hear what the rap divas would cook up for their first collaboration. Based on the reviews of the remix so far, they managed to satisfy the masses.

Ice Spice is Unstoppable

For her part, the Queen of Rap pays homage to the song’s late namesake by giving listeners her best English accent. “I, I, I be eatin’ my spinach, they tried to clone my image / They burned they London Bridges, none of them bitches British,” her verse begins. Elsewhere, she left us shocked with bars like “Like grrah, keep it a stack / Bitches is ass if we keepin’ it crack.” In the “Princess Diana (Remix)” visual, Minaj also stuns in various looks, many of them showcasing her famously curvaceous behind, which she doesn’t hesitate to shake.

Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana (Remix)” With Nicki Minaj Has Twitter Singing The Rap Divas’ Praise

It’s Ice Spice season. Since blowing up with “Munch (Feelin’ U)” last summer, the 23-year-old drill artist has been achieving one major career milestone after another. She earned a co-sign from Drake early on and now, she’s collaborating with one of the biggest names in hip-hop. Spice likely never saw this sort of success coming her way so quickly, though she’s obviously taking advantage of it. This New Music Friday (April 14), the famous redhead was joined by Nicki Minaj on the remix of “Princess Diana.” The song originally comes from her Like..? EP, which arrived earlier this year to great reviews.

The song begins with Isis Gaston reciting her famous bars from the chorus over production by RIOTUSA. “They be chattin’, I don’t give a damn and I’m still gettin’ money, I know who I am,” the Bronx-born lyricist reminds listeners. “And I just fell in love with a gangsta / So he put my name in a tat’,” she flirtatiously rhymes while beginning the first verse. “But I don’t let him come to the crib / So we get it on where we at.” Following that the Queen of Rap comes through with some heat, leaving the Barbz applauding her wit and flow.

Nicki Minaj Slides on the “Princess Diana (Remix)”

“Like grrah, keep it a stack / Bitches is ass if we keepin’ it crack,” she hilariously rhymes near the end of the remix’s second verse. “Bad little redhead, she ’bout to black / We come out, it’s a movie, but we don’t do BAP.” Since arriving at midnight, the song has garnered plenty of strong reactions from social media users. For the most part, they’ve been incredibly positive. “Twitter was praying that Nicki would start some kind of beef with Ice Spice only for Nicki to hop on the ‘Princess Diana’ remix and sign her under her new record label on a partnership deal,” one person proudly pointed out.

Another chimed in with, “The way Nicki bodied her ‘Princess Diana’ verse is insane, like the bars the metaphors, the energy. Mother slid! I’m not over this serve literally fkn still gagged.” Keep scrolling for more Twitter reactions to Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Princess Diana (Remix).” After reading be sure to tell us your thoughts on the hot new collaboration in the comments.
