E-40 Thanks Kendrick Lamar For Letting Him Narrate The “Pop Out” Show

Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” show has been the defining concert event of 2024. The rapper repped the West Coast with pride, and made sure to include every artist and celebrity that he considered vital to the California scene. Naturally, E-40 was among these artists. The Oakland icon had the unique but crucial job of narrating the “Pop Out” show, and to no one’s surprise, he crushed it. E-40’s voice was instantly recognizable, and perfectly suited to sound and feel of the event.

Like everything else related to the “Pop Out,” E-40’s involvement was a surprise. The rapper was tight-lipped about his involvement with Lamar’s pgLang team. He did, however, detail the way his narration came to be on Instagram. E-40 claimed that K. Dot reached out to him while he was on the road, and requested that he carve out time to provide recordings. The interaction reportedly happened over the phone while the rapper was in Washington. “After landing in Washington, DC from Aspen,” he wrote. “I rushed to the hotel to answer the call and contribute some authentic game to what I knew was going to be a monumental night for The West Coast.”

E-40 Recorded His “Pop Out” Narration In DC

E-40 couldn’t attend the “Pop Out,” but he thanked Kendrick Lamar for making him feel included. He also showed love to the West Coast, which seemed to be the overriding sentiment of the event. “I feel honored to be considered for moments like this,” he added. “Sometimes the West Coast is overlooked. But not tonight. I’m glad I was able to play my part and Sprinkle a little Game on this historical moment.” E-40 dubbed the “Pop Out” concert “one of the biggest nights in hip-hop history,” and the public seems to agree.

Of course, E-40 couldn’t wrap up his message without praising the man of the hour. The West Coast may have won last night, but Kendrick Lamar is the rapper who made it possible, and E-40 made sure to emphasize Dot’s importance. “From the beginning I knew @kendricklamar was gonna be special,” the Oakland icon asserted. “He’s always shown me the utmost love and respect.” Lamar obviously feels a similar reverence for E-40, as he referenced the rapper on his now-classic Metro Boomin collab, “Like That.”

Mustard Will Join Kendrick Lamar For “Pop Out” Show With Friends

“Not Like Us” is going to ring off with particular hype at Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming “Pop Out” show in Los Angeles on Juneteenth. Moreover, a big part of this is that Mustard recently announced that he will be in attendance at the concert at The Forum, which is an expected but still exciting first announced guest. We don’t know whether other folks that will make it to the “Ken & Friends” event will announce their participation beforehand or if it will mostly be a surprise. Either way, fans can’t wait to catch this live and feel the built-up energy from this Drake beef that this performance will take to a boiling point.

Furthermore, if you’re not in Los Angeles, no worries: there will be a livestream of Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” event via Amazon Prime and Twitch. As such, you can still see Mustard spin “Not Like Us,” and we’d guess that this is going to be a really fun moment for the song’s producer. After all, this is his most high-profile collaboration in a while, and the chance to celebrate the song’s achievements on a special holiday in his home city is a very heartening development. We can’t help but wonder what other friends will make an appearance…

Mustard Will “Pop Out” For Kendrick Lamar Show

Meanwhile, Mustard has some big moves of his own to look forward to very soon, including his recently announced upcoming new album Faith Of A Mustard Seed. With just a single track, it’s already been a massive year for him so far, so to see this full-length return in such a grandiose way is a very exciting move for 2024. Overall, there are a whole lot of reasons to be excited for this “Pop Out” show from Kendrick Lamar. But folks like ScHoolboy Q think that this represents something bigger for the West Coast this year, as it’s been one heck of a run for the region in the past few months.

“Heard it. sH*t go dumb. LA bout to do it again… LA up tHis year,” ScHoolboy Q tweeted about the new Mustard album, adding onto the hype around his own LP Blue Lips, the new Vince Staples album Dark Times, and so much more. Whether you’re K.Dot or another L.A. artist, you’ve got a lot to be proud of these days, and we’ll see how this continues to evolve throughout the year. Maybe this is going to really be the year of the West Coast when we look back at it. As long as we don’t start underrating all the other scenes, it’ll be a pretty fun time.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out Ken & Friends” Concert: Artists Fans Want To See

Kendrick Lamar has just announced his upcoming “Pop Out – Ken & Friends” concert in Inglewood, California. The live show will kick off at 3 PM on June 19. Fans expect a wide array of on-stage performers, though they have not announced any to the public yet. The show will also be Kendrick’s first outing since the dust has settled on his brutal beef with Drake. Billed as “Ken & Friends,” the event has already excited many fans about the possibility of their favorite rappers joining Kendrick on stage. Let’s take a look at a few favored artists who would surely turn heads at the event.

7. Mustard

Given that this “Pop Out” concert is Kendrick Lamar’s first live show since the Drake beef, the number one question on everyone’s mind is, will he perform “Not Like Us?” On one hand, it seems like a no-brainer, as the platinum-selling single has been touted as a massive summer anthem, and has drawn throngs of crowds worldwide. On the other hand, Kendrick Lamar may very well eschew this performance in favor of tracks that promote peace and togetherness due to the concert’s Juneteenth setting.

Either way, if Mustard takes the stage, we’ll know that an earthquake is coming, as the acclaimed DJ will surely have the crowd stomping from the moment they hear his iconic producer tag. Mustard has also announced plans to release an album this summer. This means the DJ could preview a wide array of previously unheard cuts at the show.

6. Future & Metro Boomin

As long as we’re cool with playing Drake disses on stage at the “Pop Out” concert, Kendrick Lamar should absolutely bring Future and Metro Boomin into the mix. For starters, the trio could perform the explosive track “Like That,” which kicked off the beef back in March. Beyond that, Future and Metro have 2 full albums of brand-new material to showcase to the world. The albums, We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, are some of the biggest releases of 2024. The Inglewood audience would certainly be welcoming to the iconic hip hop duo.

5. Kodak Black

Kendrick Lamar has made no secret of his kinship to Kodak Black in recent years. Yak was featured all over Lamar’s last album Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers, in the form of numerous spoken interludes and two highly-favored verses. Fans would certainly love to see Kodak Black live in concert alongside Kendrick Lamar, especially if it means seeing them perform “Silent Hill” together. If the rumors are true that Kendrick has a new album coming out in the near future, Kodak is a likely candidate to be on it, meaning the duo could even perform new unreleased music to the crowd.

4. Baby Keem

This one is almost a certainty, as Kendrick and Baby Keem tend to move as one unit together these days. It’s well known that the “Hillbillies” MCs are cousins, and Keem was placed in a number of front-and-center moments during Kendrick’s Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers album. Baby Keem also toured with Kendrick throughout the entirety of his record-shattering Big Steppers tour. Rumors have been bubbling for months now that there may even be a Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem joint album in the works, though no confirmation has been provided on that front from either artist just yet.

3. Kanye West

This is arguably the biggest long shot on this list, but it is still technically possible for Kanye West to make an appearance. West and Ty Dolla $ign have been making the rounds at numerous stops across the country to promote their ongoing Vultures album series. Kanye also firmly sided with Kendrick during the latter’s beef with Drake, even dropping a “Like That” remix. Despite this, people largely view Kanye as radioactive these days due to his outspoken antisemitism and public controversies.

Plus, Kanye did take subtle shots at Kendrick before dropping his “Like That” remix, arguing on a social media post that he “washed” Lamar on their 2016 collaboration “No More Parties In L.A.” While fans would love to see Kanye take the stage at Pop Out, nobody really knows the status of his working relationship with Kendrick right now.

2. SZA

Kendrick and SZA haven’t collaborated since the “Not Like Us” rapper departed their shared label, TDE, though they have been known to have exceptional chemistry on wax. Some fans have suggested that SZA has sided with Drake in the recent beef. These rumors are unsubstantiated, though SZA has worked with Drake in the last year, and the Toronto native even shouted her out while dissing Kendrick on the song “Push Ups.” An appearance from SZA at Pop Out would be a perfect way to solidify that she’s still cool with Kendrick while also promoting her long-awaited upcoming project Lana, which she has teased since late 2022.

1. Black Hippy

Speaking of TDE, Kendrick Lamar’s former label-mates ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and Ab-Soul would also be perfect picks to appear at the Pop Out concert. All three of the Compton MCs have deep roots in the neighborhood, as well as long-running relationships with Kendrick. Fans have demanded a Black Hippy collaboration album from the four artists for over a decade now, though it seems clear that it will never happen. At this point, a Black Hippy stage reunion would be the best that the fans can hope for. It would also make perfect sense as ScHoolboy Q recently dropped one of the hottest albums of the year with Blue Lips, while Jay Rock and Ab-Soul are each rumored to be working on new music behind the scenes.

Blueface Posts Chrisean Rock Popping Her Tooth Out And Back In

Blueface and Chrisean Rock have a pretty volatile relationship online, the reasons for which vary wildly. However, they still have a lot of fun with each other and come through with plenty of teases and jokes on social media. For example, and most recently, the California rapper posted a video of Rock popping her fake tooth out of her mouth. It seemed that he was trying to promote or shout out the PackStreetBoys, a lifestyle brand, and had Chrisean do her thing for the clip. Then, she popped the tooth back in and Blueface eventually sat right beside her, with them looking comfy.

Of course, this is a pretty big contrast from the usual antics that these two find themselves in with each other. During a recent Instagram Live session, Chrisean Rock spoke about how they’re going through something at the moment, although that’s nothing new for frequent followers of the relationship. After all, she did throw a vase at him recently, and they then just shrugged off the whole ordeal, joking about coverage of the incident. However, they might have bigger things to fight about in the future after Blueface’s comments about every man being a cheater.

Chrisean Rock Pops Her Tooth Out For Blueface’s IG Post

“Let me break it down for you,” the “Thotiana” MC said in a RapTV interview. “Every man you’ve ever been with has cheated on you. Whether they are gonna tell you, whether you find out after, before whenever. They have stepped out of the relationship. Even the guy you with now. He’s cheating on you. I guarantee it. It’s just a manly thing. Men are hunters. We go hunt. We not gon’ tell you everything we knocked down, everything we hunted. Be realistic.

“I don’t think cheating and loyalty are in the same bracket,” Blueface continued. “It’s a moment of vulnerability. I think loyalty is more of, ‘I’ma always make sure you straight.’ Mentally, financially. I could be with a b***h right now. If I make sure you straight, I consider that loyalty.” Fans will have to wait and see whether Chrisean Rock has anything to say about that assessment. Regardless, return to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Blueface, Chrisean Rock, and their endlessly eventful relationship.

Erica Banks Releases A New Club Anthem, ‘Pop Out’

Last year, Erica Banks took over the world with her fierce, bass-heavy single “Buss It” that showcased her knack for intense beats and flawless flow. It became so big that it prompted the #BussItChallenge and celebrities like Chloe X Halle got involved. DaBaby even invited her to join his label Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment, but she turned it down.

Now, the viral star is back with the equally as addictive “Pop Out,” a club anthem with a very pink music video. The bass is as prominent as ever, and the song opens with a nod to iconic rapper Nelly’s “Hot In Herre”: “Hot off in the club, clothes off / I’m Nelly,” she raps.

That hit is actually also sampled in “Buss It,” about which she told Uproxx: “I have not talked to Nelly. It would be dope if I got to talk to him but I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to him. However, he did hit me with a follow on Instagram the other day. He also reposted his girlfriend dancing to the song, doing the ‘Buss It’ challenge. So, he has let me know that he does see me.”

Watch the video for “Pop Out” above.

Erica Banks is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
