Dr. Mutulu Shakur Provides Health and Legal Update While Battling Stage 3 Bone Marrow Cancer

mutulu victorville 1024x694 1

Dr. Mutulu Shakur is battling stage 3 bone marrow cancer from prison. Shakur, the Black liberation icon and stepfather of late Hip-Hop legend Tupac Shakur, has been behind bars for three decades, despite being able to be released in 2016. An update to his official Instagram account, provide his most recent health and legal statuses:

First, we thank everyone for the outpouring of support for Dr. Shakur as he continues to battle stage 3 bone marrow cancer from prison.
He did have a stem cell transplant, but then experienced an early relapse necessitating a new and highly dangerous chemotherapy that still only delays the cancer’s progress. Leaving him in prison while the chemotherapy suppresses his immune system places his life in further jeopardy — Dr. Shakur’s immediate compassionate release is the only humane response.

Despite all this, in January 2022, he was denied compassionate release for the third time by the Central office of the Federal Bureau of Prison! He is currently recovering from his third infection with COVID-19, and consequent COVID pneumonia.

Earlier this month, Dr. Shakur won a significant legal victory. For years, he has been litigating a habeas corpus in the U.S. District Court of California, challenging the U.S Parole Commission’s 2016 decision denying him mandatory parole. In denying parole, the Parole Commission relied on a disciplinary ticket Dr. Shakur received for making a telephone call to an approved phone number, where a professor put him on speakerphone to talk to her class. The court found that Dr. Shakur’s conduct had not violated the regulation and ruled that it was a due process violation for the Parole Commission to rely on this incident in its decision to deny parole. The court ordered that he receive the “good time” lost for this incident (27 days) and ordered a new mandatory parole hearing where the Parole Commission cannot consider this incident.

Family and Friends of Mutulu Shakur and the legal team continue to double down on our efforts. If you are in contact with any members of Congress who may be willing to support Dr. Shakur’s release, reach out to us at [email protected] so that we can connect. We are asking that everyone continue to sign and share the online petition to help us reach 75,000 signatures.

The link to reach the petition is available here. You can see the full statement here.

NY Mayor Eric Adams Doubles Back On Vaccine Rule For Pro Athletes, Performers

kyrie irving new york city mayor eric adams

Professional athletes and performers in New York City no longer have to comply with the private sector coronavirus vaccine mandate. Mayor Eric Adams says he’s making an exemption because hometown teams had an unfair disadvantage because visiting players who weren’t vaccinated were allowed to play.

This now means unvaccinated Nets star Kyrie Irving no longer has to sit out home games and Yankees and Mets players who have not gotten the shot can play at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field once baseball season starts.

The mayor is getting backlash from some who say this is unfair to other employees who were forced to get the shot. Hundreds of city employees were fired for not getting the vaccine and Adams says they will not be re-hired.

Councilman Joe Borelli took to Twitter saying it’s unfair to exempt basketball players from the city’s private sector vaccine mandate but not arena ushers or janitors.

Missing Russian Model Who Criticized Putin Found Dead In Suitcase

Screen Shot 2022 03 18 at 7.46.41 AM

According to several confirmed reports, the Russian model who went missing after a video of her criticizing Putin went viral, has been found dead a year after her disappearance.

Gretta Vedler put out a video criticizing the Russian leader, saying, “Given the fact that Putin went through a lot of humiliation in [his] childhood, he could not stand up for himself due to his [slight] physical form, it is not surprising that he left after law school and joined the KGB,” Vedler said. “Such people are timid and fearful from childhood, afraid of noise and darkness, strangers, so traits such as caution, restraint, and lack of communication are developed early in their character.”

One month after posting the video, Vedler was never seen again. A year later, her death has been confirmed, but reports say that her death and the video she released are unrelated. According to reports, shortly after the video was made, Vedler was strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend Dimitry Korovin.

The 23-year-old killer slept with Vedler’s corpse in a hotel for three days while posting on her social media to not alarm people of her disappearance. Afterward, Korovin stuffed Vedler’s severed body parts into a suitcase and drove 300 miles away from the crime scene to the Lipetsk region of Russia, where he discarded her body.

It was the missing person’s report Korovin asked to file that eventually led to his arrest. Details of Korovin’s arrest are few, but TheSource.com will update the story as details develop.

No More Vodka From Russia, President Biden Announces Sanctions Amid Ukraine Invasion

biden putin

President Biden is calling for the removal of normal trade relations with Russia following its invasion of Ukraine. The move would allow for new tariffs on Russian imports, which Biden said would be a “crushing blow” to Russia’s economy.

Biden said Friday, “The free world is coming together to confront” Russian President Vladimir Putin,” and “we’re going to continue to squeeze” him.

The President is proposing the ban on imports of seafood, spirits and diamonds. This means no more caviar and vodka from that country. Biden is also calling for Congress to remove “favored nation status,” which makes it very hard for Russia to do business with other counties.

The U.S. The President said there’s bipartisan cooperation to stand up against Russia’s aggression in Eastern Europe. Biden added the U.S. will be going after Russian oligarchs as they support Russian President Vladimir Putin and harm Russia’s citizens.

Biden’s proposal would put Moscow’s trade relationship with the U.S. in the same category as North Korea and Cuba. The proposal would require congressional approval.

Jussie Smollett Sentenced to 150 Days in Cook County Jail & Probation for Hate Crime Hoax

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot says the city feels “vindicated’ by the conviction of Jussie Smollett.

The former “Empire” actor was sentenced on Thursday to 150 days behind bars for staging a phony hate crime in Chicago. “The criminal conviction of Jussie Smollett by a jury of his peers and today’s sentencing should send a clear message to everyone in the City of Chicago that false claims and allegations will not be tolerated. The malicious and wholly fabricated claim made by Mr. Smollett resulted in over 1500 hours of police work that cost the City over $130,000 in police overtime. The City feels vindicated in today’s ruling that he is being held accountable and that we will appropriately receive restitution for his actions.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is continuing to say he won’t make an exception for unvaccinated Nets star Kyrie Irving.

Mayor Adams told CNBC rules are rules and that letting Kyrie Irving play home games “would send the wrong message” to the rest of New York City.

The mayor’s comments came a day after he released a statement saying the city is looking at March 7th to lift vaccination requirements for indoor dining, fitness centers and entertainment venues.

“I can’t wait to get it done,” Adams said. “I take my hat off to New Yorkers — through masks, vaccines, through social distancing, we were hit with the uncertainty, the fear of COVID. I’m really proud of how we responded as New Yorkers. And every morning I meet with my health professionals. Because I always stated I’m going to follow the science. I’m not going to get ahead of the science, because I’m ready to get ahead of all of this and get back to a level of normalcy.”

“But they’re giving us clear instructions, they’ve given us benchmarks, we’re going to follow those benchmarks. But I look forward in the next few weeks of going through a real transformation — that I don’t have to wonder what you look like … We’re going to get the city back up and operating. And we’re going to be rolling out some things in the next day or so on how we’re going to carry that out.”
