Why Is ‘We Want Cardi’ Trending On X (Twitter)?

Today (December 8) is Nicki Minaj’s day. It’s her birthday. It’s Pink Friday 2 release day. The Barbz are thriving in Gag City, and Cardi B’s fans are happily raining on their parade. Clearly, they didn’t get the memo from Beyoncé and Taylor Swift that powerful women don’t have to be pitted against each other.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), #WeWantCardi is trending. There are several potential reasons as to why that is trending. First, stanning is a full-time job. But also, Cardi B still hasn’t dropped her follow-up to 2018’s Invasion Of Privacy, and patience is running thin.

Why Is ‘We Want Cardi’ Trending On Twitter?

An initial cursory scroll through the #WeWantCardi trending topic would suggest that the Bardigang are relishing in the perception that Pink Friday 2 is “flopping” (their word, not mine). Some are claiming that Invasion Of Privacy is superior to Pink Friday 2 — and Cardi, the superior rapper — going out of their way to stream Invasion Of Privacy and (seemingly) prevent Pink Friday 2 from ascending the charts, or at least revive Invasion Of Privacy so Cardi is right next to Minaj on the charts.

According to the X fan account @CardiBCaviar, the goal was to “bring Invasion Of Privacy to No. 1 on iTunes,” and as of this writing, it had reentered the top 10 in the US (per Chart Data). See some of the posts below.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

How Nicki Minaj & J. Cole’s ‘Let Me Calm Down’ Came Together

On November 6, Nicki Minaj noticed #LetMeCalmDown was trending on X (formerly known as Twitter) asked her Barbz to weigh in on who she should recruit to feature on the then-unreleased song. “It needs to be a spitter,” she wrote. “A rapper rapper.” Fast forward to this morning, December 8, and Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 is finally here — with “Let Me Calm Down” featuring J. Cole, who definitely qualifies as a rapper rapper.

How Did Nicki Minaj And J. Cole’s ‘Let Me Calm Down’ Come Together?

In a post-Elon Musk buying Twitter world, Minaj had enough room to write a very detailed post about the moving pieces behind “Let Me Calm Down.” See it below.

“Hey- thank u guys for posting.

This man J. Cole had a 2 hour talk with me. 2. Two!!!! Didn’t realize I was sitting on a therapist couch but ummm 2 days later I heard this verse & couldn’t stop crying.

The end.

In a world where we know EXACTLY how & WHEN to tear each other apart, there are still Kings & Queens who know how to put ppl back together. Patch them up. Heal them. Empower them. Understand them. Listen to them. Make them do the most beautiful thing a human being can do.

Smile.

After having #papabear I couldn’t wait for the day he’d smile @ me. First smile? It was one day when I blew a kiss @ him. I said ‘papa mmuuuaahhhhh!!!!’ then? Time froze. Froze. He smiled? He smiled. At Me? Looking directly in my eyes? Yes.

Me? Held back the tears & just kept doing a billion more times. I cried later.

I’ve been trying to make him smile every day since…lol he actually makes me crack up laughing all the time. No idea where he got all that personality from but y’all pray for me

Anyway,

Cole…

It’s been a long time coming, but the barbz welcome you with open arms to #GagCity

We appreciate you.

We hope you stay [fingers crossed emoji]

North West Dances To New Nicki Minaj Album In Barbie Themed Fit

Overnight, Nicki Minaj finally released her highly-anticipated 5th album Pink Friday 2. She didn’t keep anything back from fans delivering a massive 22-song tracklist that added up to over 80 minutes of material. Included in the tracklist are singles dating back to last year like “Super Freaky Girl,” “Red Ruby Da Sleaze,” and “Last Time I Saw You.” The album is also packed full of high-profile features. J. Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Drake, Lil Wayne, Future, and many more pop up on some of the album’s most talked about songs. The project also contains some notable samples, including one from Billie Eilish on the opening track.

One of the tracks that has stood out to fans immediately is “Everybody” with Lil Uzi Vert. One of those fans is Kim Kardashian’s daughter North West. She’s no stranger to being a fan of some of the biggest female rappers around. Recently she was starstruck when she got the chance to Facetime with Sexyy Red. Now she’s also proving to be quite a Barb. It seems like North stayed up late to listen to Nicki’s new album right when it dropped and took the event seriously while sporting a Barbie-themed fit. A video of her dancing to “Everybody” started making the rounds overnight just as other fans were digesting the album. Check out the full clip below.

North West Dancing To Nicki Minaj

In the comments, fans agree with North’s hype. “Nicki has a huge fanbase and she catered to ALL. It’s a song for everyone and their vibe. Love this song & the album!!” one of the top comments reads. “I love North. She’s so tapped into culture authentically. We was doing the same thing to our fav artist at this age too,” another comment agrees.

In the wake of Pink Friday 2‘s release fans quickly tried to break down its lyrical content. One of the standout points on the record features a bar about Tory Lanez that many are interpreting as a Megan Thee Stallion diss. What do you think of North West dancing to the new Nicki Minaj album shortly after it was released? Let us know in the comment section below.

“Pink Friday 2” Reactions: Nicki Minaj Stunned, Slayed, Shocked & Soured On New Album

Now that Nicki Minaj’s highly anticipated fifth studio album is finally here, the Barbz and music fans at large are spending a lot of time breaking it down. Of course, it’s pretty early to really come to a conclusion on what the consensus behind Pink Friday 2 is. We’re sure that some beats will grow on us, we will understand bars more with each listen, some features won’t be as exciting as when we first heard them, and so on. But on Onika’s 41st birthday, on the very first day we got our ears on it, how is it shaping up? Well, according to the fans… good! But it depends on who you ask.

Obviously, a lot of fans of Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, or other femcees probably don’t like Pink Friday 2 that much. Apparently Nicki Minaj had plenty of subliminal disses and shots for the female rap game, which is disappointing to see from just a solidarity standpoint. With these conflicts and comparisons in mind, you’ll obviously find a lot of hate towards the project online from other female rap fans, which is very understandable. If you’ve liked the Barb before, you’ll probably like this record, but if you prefer other styles, it might not do much for you.

Barbz Are Loving Nicki Minaj’s Latest

Furthermore, there’s also a lot of convo about the featured guests: Young Money (Lil Wayne & Drake), Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. Particularly, there was even some conversation around Drizzy’s appearance on here being better than a lot of what made it to For All The Dogs. That’s on the track “Needle” if you’re curious to check it out. If you want to see more wild reactions to Pink Friday 2, Nicki Minaj’s latest nuke-drop on the industry, check them out below.

Nicki Minaj Samples Travis Scott Track On “Pink Birthday”

Nicki Minaj has been teasing Pink Friday 2 for a very long time at this point. Overall, the fans have been worried about the album never actually coming out. She delayed the album twice, and this led to a lot of anxiety. However, on Friday morning, Nicki ended up blessing her fans by coming out with the project, once and for all. It was a triumphant moment for the Barbz, and they are most definitely appreciative of the fact that they now have this album to listen to in all of its glory.

Throughout the tracklist here, there are a ton of great songs. Moreover, there are a ton of features from big names. J. Cole, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Lil Uzi Vert are all featured here. Furthermore, there are quite a few samples that can be found throughout the album. One of these samples actually comes from a former foe of hers. Of course, we are talking about Travis Scott who outsold Queen with his album Astroworld. The song that she samples comes off Rodeo and is the intro track, “Pornography.”

Nicki’s performance on the track is great and the sample is used in a creative way here. Rodeo was a huge moment for Scott and for many it was the moment where he came into his own. Having said all of that, Nicki’s interpretation of the beat is pretty cool For hip-hop fans who didn’t like seeing these two at odds, this moment will be a nice one on the album. However, there are definitely plenty of other great tracks to get into here.

With Pink Friday 2 out right now, let us know what you think of the album so far, in the comments section below. Did it end up meeting your expectations or was it underwhelming? Fans Are Convinced That Nicki Minaj Dissed Latto On ‘Fallin 4 U’ From Her New Album ‘Pink Friday 2’

Nicki Minaj has helped save December, which often ends up being the most boring month of the year in terms of music releases, with her new album, Pink Friday 2. Since the project was released at midnight, fans have been appreciating the music and exploring Minaj’s latest lyrics. Some believe that at one point on the record, Minaj takes a stab at Latto.

Does Nicki Minaj diss Latto on “Fallin 4 U” from Pink Friday 2?

According to Genius, towards the end of the third verse of “Fallin 4 U,” Minaj raps, “Picture you endin’ up under the seat, where the dread at? / Picture not listenin’ when I said that you would dread that / I mean locs, ho, you-you’s a chop ho.” Some, though, have heard the final line as, “I mean locked, ho, you’s a chop ho,” or, “I mean Latto, you’s a chop ho,” as XXL notes.

The lyric as it appears on Genius seems to make the most sense logically, given that the reference to “locs” connects with the “dread” (as in the type of hair) lyric from the previous lines. Still, some listeners took to social media to comment about the supposed Latto diss.

Of course, there is some history here, as last year, there was some Twitter (back when it was still called that) beef between the two rappers.

Nicki Minaj “Pink Friday 2” Production Credits: BNYX, Atl Jacob, Hollywood Cole & More

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 is finally here, and the sonic pallet on display is definitely one of its most standout aspects. Whether you love it or hate it, its airy and dreamy presentation, accentuated by raw percussive elements and plenty of very direct samples and interpolations, fits quite well with the style that she’s going for performance-wise on this project. As such, we’re taking a look at the LP’s production credits. There were many talented beatmakers that went above and beyond on this sequel, and you can tell the effort that they put in to craft their material. Let’s see who could’ve been the key player here.

First off, the opener “Are You Gone Already” is produced by FINNEAS, as it’s a very generous sample of Billie Eilish’s “when the party’s over.” As far as other big names, Boi-1da has a couple of credits on Nicki Minaj’s new album, namely “Needle” featuring Drake (a collab with YogiTheProducer) and “Pink Birthday” (with 116, Apollo Parker, and Fierce). Atl Jacob is anther big name, and probably the most dominant producer on this tracklist. He masterminded “FTCU,” “Fallin 4 U” (with DB!), “Let Me Calm Down” featuring J. Cole (with Hendrix Smoke and Kuji), and the single “Last Time I Saw You.

After Their Missing ‘For All The Dogs’ Collab, Nicki Minaj And Drake Reunite On ‘Needle,’ Which Also Features A SZA Cameo

Nicki Minaj’s highly anticipated new album Pink Friday 2 has arrived as one of the final major releases of 2023. Given Minaj’s star power, she was able to pull some big-time collaborators into the fold for the project. That includes longtime associate Drake, who features on “Needle.”

The track also features a surprise cameo from SZA via a sampled voicemail that introduces the track. She says, “I mean, I don’t know if I like girls, I saw Sheila at Seraphin. Maybe we had too much tequila. Actually, yeah, we definitely had too much tequila ’cause I don’t know why I’m even playin’ on your phone right now. I’ma just block you, bye.”

Drake offers the song’s first verse and a catchy chorus, on which he sing-raps, “Pull up the Maybach and bend your leg back / Let’s engage that, don’t delay that / You’re like a needle, life’s a haystack / Friends they can leave us, you could stay back.”

This collaboration resolves the For All The Dogs situation: A link-up between the two was previously teased, but when Drake’s latest album dropped, Minaj was nowhere to be found on it. Now, though, they finally managed to make something happen before the year ended.
