Drake Pleases PETA By Updating OVO’s Guidelines On Merch Materials

It’s been a tough year for animal rights activists to convince Drake to support their causes, because he couldn’t sniff them out with a massive slab of beef cooking in front of him. In the months since the release of WE DON’T TRUST YOU, we’ve spilled a lot of ink on the rap battle of the decade so far, and he’s been unable to let go of it no matter what he tries. But the Toronto superstar eventually cleared the air and moved on, and ironically, the lack of beef has now been matched with a righteous business decision. PETA thanked him on Twitter for his OVO clothing brand eliminating their use of animal fur.

“Here’s a toast to @champagnepapi!” PETA wrote in a statement. “Clothing and lifestyle brand October’s Very Own (OVO), cofounded by Canadian rapper Drake, has confirmed that it will no longer sell products with real animal fur. The decision follows pressure from PETA and more than 100,000 e-mails to the brand from PETA’s supporters urging the company to ban fur – including fur from rabbits and coyotes. In thanks, we’ve sent the company some delicious bunny–shaped vegan chocolates.”

PETA Thanks Drake

Still, there’s some more parallels to draw in this weird Venn diagram of PETA, Drake, and beef. The 6ix God is a pretty big hater of Pharrell, who recently spoke to GQ about how he didn’t really stress out over Drizzy’s disses. But an even bigger Pharrell naysayer is PETA, as animal rights protestors have directly confronted him on multiple occasions recently. One protestor interrupted a screening for his Piece By Piece biopic to speak out against Louis Vuitton, and another group of protestors confronted him after the GQ Men Of The Year party.

Meanwhile, later today, Drake will apparently hop on xQc’s stream to give away $500K for a gambling event, which should be pretty fun. We wonder if he will talk about Kendrick Lamar’s new album GNX, the beef in general, or updates on his PARTYNEXTDOOR collab album. In any case, it’s interesting to see this update to OVO clothing guidelines, and hopefully more big hip-hop brands can follow suit.

Drake And PETA Are Now On Good Terms After The Rapper’s OVO Clothing Brand Updated Its Featured Materials

Drake has a mountain of music enemies, and it seems to grow by the day. However, the “Family Matters” rapper has found a friend in an enormous organization.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), PETA announced that their beef has been traded in for vegan chocolate. In the post, PETA revealed that Drake’s OVO clothing brand has nixed its use of animal fur.

“Here’s a toast to @champagnepapi! Clothing and lifestyle brand October’s Very Own (OVO), cofounded by Canadian rapper Drake, has confirmed that it will no longer sell products with real animal fur,” wrote the organization.

PETA went on to brag that their stern advocacy and constant communication with the company played a huge role in the call. “The decision follows pressure from PETA and more than 100,000 e-mails to the brand from PETA’s supporters urging the company to ban fur—including fur from rabbits and coyotes,” PETA wrote. “In thanks, we’ve sent the company some delicious bunny–shaped vegan chocolates.”

The same can not be currently said of Drake’s foe Pharrell and Louis Vuitton.

Over the past few months Pharrell has been approached at least twice in-person. During a Piece By Piece screening, a protestor attempted to storm the stage to shame Louis Vuitton, where Pharrell serves as the Men’s Creative Director. He was also approached outside of the GQ Men Of The Year Party.

It looks like PETA’s work isn’t done just yet.

Pharrell Wasn’t Too Happy About Being Aggressively Confronted Seemingly By PETA Protestors (Yet Again)

Pharrell has found himself in the middle of controversy yet again. but this time it has nothing to do with his hot takes on celebrities’ involvement in politics.

In the famed producer’s animated biopic, Piece By Piece, he showcased his ability to maintain his cool under pressure. Following after the GQ Men Of The Year Party in West Hollywood, California onlookers witnessed it firsthand. As the “Happy” musician attempted to leave the annual shindig, held on November 14, Pharrell was aggressively confronted outside of his car service.

During the exchange, captured by The Hollywood Fix (viewable here), the animal rights advocates can be heard screaming: “Shame on you, you animal murder. You are a loser. What type of person still uses fur?”

Initially, Pharrell lashes back at the protester mocking them repeating back, “Shame on you.” Then as the cameras grew closer, Pharrell let his frustrations go. He then says, “I don’t use fur. God bless you.”

Afterward, Pharrell attempts to cut their tension with a hug. However, the activists were not open to the embrace. Back in September, Pharrell’s Piece By Piece screening, the event was crashed by PETA supporters carrying a sign which read: “Pharrell: Stop Killing Animals For Fashion.”

PETA and Pharrell jagged relationship is tied to his post as Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Creative Director.

Why Is PETA Protesting Pharrell?

Pharrell had a screening of his new biopic Piece By Piece at the Toronto International Film Festival yesterday (September 10), but the proceedings were interrupted by a PETA protestor. But, why?

Why Is PETA Protesting Pharrell?

Since early 2023, Pharrell has been the Men’s Creative Director for Louis Vuitton. After the screening incident, PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman issued a statement after the incident, saying, “We would be happy to stop disrupting Pharrell’s appearances but despite a lot of lip service, he’s yet to ditch fur and exotic skins. Pharrell can decide in a heartbeat, today, to use his power for good and stop being complicit in cruelty — it’s quite easy to be kind.”

The statement also notes the protestor “blasted” Pharrell “for his disgraceful use of wild-animal skins and fur.”

After the protester was removed from the screening, Pharrell said to the audience:

“Let me address that. You know, Rome wasn’t made in a day, and sometimes when you have plans to change things and situations, you have to get in a position of power and of influence, where you can change people’s minds progression. That’s not necessarily the way to do it, and sitting in my position, when I have conversations on behalf of organizations like that, unbeknownst to them, they come out here and do themselves a disservice. That’s OK: When that change comes, everybody in this room, will remember that I told you we’re actually working on that, and if she would have just asked me, I would have told her. But instead, she wanted to repeat herself.”

Pharrell Williams Directly Deals With PETA Protestor At Private Screening Of “Piece By Piece”

Pharrell Williams is rolling out the red carpet for his upcoming LEGO biopic, Piece By Piece. The film is going to officially hit theaters on October 11, meaning we are one month away on the dot. To build some extra anticipation for the animated motion picture, the multi-hyphenate held a private screening for it. However, as Pharrell Williams was winding things down, a PETA protestor briefly interrupted the event, according to Uproxx. The woman actually was able to get onto the stage, sign and all. Speaking of which, the message was, “Pharrell: Stop Killing Animals For Fashion”. Most likely, this relates to his involvement with the French luxury apparel brand, Louis Vuitton.

He does hold a high position with the iconic company, as he is the Men’s Creative Director. Throughout the PETA supporter’s appearance both on the stage and off it, she repeatedly said, “Stop torturing animals!”. In a scenario like this, there’s high probability that a lot of people would escalate the situation further by yelling and scolding her. But Pharrell was extremely mature and graceful during the entire face-to-face interaction. “I know, you’re right”, and “I’m working on it”, he replied in a cool manner.

Pharrell Williams Addresses PETA Supporter & Backlash

He even said “God bless you” and encouraged the audience to repeat that and clap for the woman. Eventually, she was taken away by security and afterwards, Pharrell decided to address the now elephant in the room. “Let me address that. You know, Rome wasn’t made in a day, and sometimes when you have plans to change things and situations, you have to get in a position of power and of influence, where you can change people’s minds progression”, he began. “That’s not necessarily the way to do it, and sitting in my position, when I have conversations on behalf of organizations like that, unbeknownst to them, they come out here and do themselves a disservice”. He then concluded with, “That’s okay: When that change comes, everybody in this room, will remember that I told you we’re actually working on that, and if she would have just asked me, I would have told her. But instead, she wanted to repeat herself”.

The crowd the clapped for how the multi-talent handled everything. However, PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman was not as forgiving. She issued a statement following this protest, saying, “We would be happy to stop disrupting Pharrell’s appearances but despite a lot of lip service, he’s yet to ditch fur and exotic skins. Pharrell can decide in a heartbeat, today, to use his power for good and stop being complicit in cruelty — it’s quite easy to be kind”. Megan Thee Stallion’s time in Japan for the 2024 Anime Awards has been a sight to witness. From her over-the-top costume changes and fun choreography collaboration, the “P*ssy Don’t Lie” rapper has been living it up. Yesterday (March 7), Megan dialed things up a notch with an interesting culinary experience.

While dining out, Megan recorded herself trying a shot of Habushu (or Habu Sake). Although Megan enjoys a great cognac every now and again, this liqueur was no ordinary adult beverage. In fact, the slithering wine shot was poured directly from a bottle with an actual dead snake in it.

The video captioned: “LOL should I show y’all all of the food/drinks I’ve been trying out in Japan ? 😂 I just had to taste this dang snake drink 😂,” had fans crawling in their skin.

As Megan tried the shot, she couldn’t help but feel conflicted. “I didn’t even know snakes had a taste,” she joked. “But that, that tastes like a snake.”

Travis Kelce & Taylor Swift Face Backlash For Sydney Zoo Date

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are continuing to face a wave of backlash from PETA and other animal rights activists for their trip to Sydney Zoo last month. However, the couple has been given a “pass” by noted PETA supporter Jennifer Coolidge. While Coolidge said she “understood” why PETA was mad, she didn’t think that Kelce and Swift’s date was malicious. Instead, she saw it as just a public couple going on what they considered a romantic date.

The couple were spotted enjoying the popular tourist attraction last week between shows on Swift’s ongoing Eras Tour. Earlier in the week, Swifties had been gushing over Swift’s reactions to the various exhibits during a solo trip to the zoo. Kelce, who was spotted in Las Vegas earlier in the week, reportedly flew from LA to Hawaii. He then stayed the night in the island state earlier in the week. He then reportedly transferred to a private jet that departed for Sydney the day before he was spotted at the zoo.

Video Of Travis Kelce Causing Chaos At The White House Resurfaces

Meanwhile, a video of Travis Kelce causing chaos at the White House has resurfaced online. During the Chiefs’ White House visit last year, Kelce had to be pulled away from the Presidential podium by Patrick Mahomes. While President Biden was busy taking photos, Kelce was spotted stepping up to the podium. He began to say “So I’ve been waiting for this moment…” before Mahomes managed to get to him. It’s generally considered a faux pas for a civilian to speak from the Presidential podium without permission.

However, Kelce will likely be soon on his way back to the White House. This is given that the Chiefs repeated as Super Bowl champions this year. Despite the invitation, it will likely remain to be seen if Kelce attends. After all, reports suggest that he might be following Swift as she travels across Asia and Europe on her Eras Tour.

We can’t publish the video of Coolidge in this article. However, you can find it at the Via link below.

Rappers Who Have Angered PETA

From lyrics to lifestyle, the world of rap has often attracted controversy, stirring debates and sparking outrage in equal measure. Among the myriad of issues that have ignited public scrutiny, one recurring theme is the clash between rappers and animal rights activists. Over the years, many rappers have angered PETA in several different ways. The renowned organization advocating for the ethical treatment of animals has frequently found itself at odds with Hip-Hop acts. Here’s a list of rappers who have upset PETA and found themselves in the organization’s crosshairs.

Offset

On Cardi B’s 31st birthday in October 2023, Offset went above and beyond with the gifts he got her. The “Stir Fry” rapper gifted his then-wife three expensive crocodile skin Birkin bags. Obviously, PETA frowns heavily upon such things, and the organization wasted no time in expressing its frustrations. Soon after the photos of the bags hit the internet, PETA vice president Lisa Lange dropped a statement addressing the issue. “Instead of using his wealth and influence for good, Offset chose to funnel hundreds of thousands of dollars into a gruesome, violent industry that electroshocks crocodiles, shoves metal rods into their heads in an attempt to scramble their brains, and mutilates them while they’re still alive,” she wrote.

Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion

On August 7, 2020, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion dropped their smash hit, “WAP.” The song was accompanied by a music video which PETA subsequently blasted the two rappers for. Three days after the video dropped, PETA aired its opinion on the video’s apparent use of live tigers. Their statement read, “If Tiger King taught us anything, it’s that tigers and other wild animals are abused for music videos, selfies, and gawking roadside zoo visitors. So if real animals were used instead of computer-generated imagery, the message sent is that animal exploitation is Okurrr—and it isn’t. If Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion really care about p**sy liberation, they wouldn’t use suffering big cats as props.”

Valee

When Valee dyed his little dog red in 2019, the rapper probably didn’t think it would cause any outrage. However, the opposite happened as he joined the list of rappers who got on the bad side of PETA. On May 27, 2019, he uploaded a video on his Instagram, showing off his newly-dyed red dog. A month later, on June 28, 2019, he revealed on Twitter that PETA had sent him a letter. It reads, in part, “Valee should know that putting dye on animals is extremely dangerous. Although the dye used on Valee’s dog was reportedly non-toxic and vegan, no animal has a natural desire to be dyed.” While they also implored him to take down the video, Valee has left it up since then.

Big Boi

When Maroon 5 headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2019, they were briefly joined on stage by Big Boi. One-half of the iconic Hip Hop duo OutKast, the rapper donned a fur coat as he delivered a great performance before stepping off the stage. Following the event, however, PETA wrote a letter to Big Boi expressing their disappointment and disapproval of the rapper’s fashion choice. The full letter reads:

Dear Antwan, Our hearts sank when you took the stage during the Super Bowl in a fur coat. You have many, many fans here at PETA and around the country who love your music, and were thrilled when it was announced that you’d be involved in the halftime show. Can we please convince you to make that your last appearance in a fur coat? We can help you donate any furs you have to people in need as we’ve done numerous times over the years with the thousands of coats donated by people who, once seeing how horribly animals are treated on fur farms and trapped in the wild, gave them up. We’ve given furs to homeless shelters in this country and sent donated furs to Syrian refugees who desperately need the extra warmth. We’d be honored to add your furs to this donation program. There will soon be a gorgeous faux fur on its way to you that offers a look that kills that no animal had to die for. The animals need you on their team, what do you say?

Kanye West

Kanye is one of a few rappers to successfully rile PETA up multiple times. He did it in 2010 when he arrived at a fashion week event in a fur coat. After he released “Theraflu,” in 2012, he angered the organization again. In the song, Kanye raps, “Tell PETA my mink is draggin’ on the floor,” lyrics which earned him another scathing statement from the group. Most recently, in 2022, Ye came under fire when he used the photo of a skinned monkey to promote a song. On January 14, 2022, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk gave a statement to Billboard addressing the topic.

“The photo is reminiscent of the monkeys PETA has found, sometimes heads, sometimes hands, sometimes the whole body, in meat markets around the world and it makes it clear that when you remove the fur you can’t miss that there’s a person in there, that they are fellow primates, and do not belong to us to abuse for any purpose — not in laboratories, roadside zoos, movies, or meat markets,” Newkirk said.
