Naturi Naughton Calls 50 Cent’s Comments About Omari Hardwick Overvaluing Himself ‘Insane’

Naturi Naughton Will Address 3LW Fallout on New Album: 'It Was a Tumultuous Breakup'

Naturi Naughton is not hearing what 50 Cent is trying to say about Omari Hardwick.

In case you missed it, 50 Cent and Omari Hardwick, once close collaborators on the STARZ series Power, appear to be at odds over Hardwick’s recent remarks regarding his compensation for the show.

In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson expressed frustration, saying he believes Hardwick “overvalues” himself, especially since the actor hasn’t been part of any notable projects since Power concluded in 2020.

“I think he overvalues himself,” 50 Cent told the show hosts. “Because… it’s been a long time since he’s been in Power, why are we not excited about the new projects?”

Charlamagne Tha God, seeming puzzled, asked, “What new projects? I didn’t know…”

“See, that’s what I’m talking about,” 50 replied. “If there was noise going on, if he was that big of a draw, then we would see noise, we would see new things happening. We’d see you out where you’re actively in a place where they’re looking for you.”

When asked if they still have a good relationship, 50 responded bluntly: “No, because you leave it like it’s me not giving you the money.”

“That’s insane to me,” Naturi Naughton said to TMZ in response to 50’s statements. “Omari is literally the epitome of Power. Omari Hardwick started this amazing journey and I don’t know all of what happened with 50 and O. But I’ll say this: I love Omari Hardwick. He’s an amazingly talented human and he’s also a good person. But there would be no Power without Ghost.”

If you don’t know the why of it all, the tension traces back to a June 2022 episode of The Pivot podcast, where Hardwick shared that he earned $150,000 per episode on Power, a figure he felt was too low given his role as “the face of the network.” Hardwick revealed, “I still haven’t made what I should have made. I still never made the money—no, the money, I never made what I should have made. Never. Period. It’s happening now, finally.” He added that he had to borrow money from 50 Cent to support his family during production breaks and was proud to have repaid it. Hardwick suggested that 50 and series producer Courtney Kemp knew he was being underpaid, although he primarily blamed STARZ.

As for 50 Cent, even a minor mention of his name alongside Hardwick’s compensation issues was reason to take offense. “If you’re saying, ‘Courtney and 50 know,’ you’re saying that, but they don’t know who Courtney is—I introduced people to her. They don’t know who she is, so you’re leaving it as, ‘50 didn’t make sure I got paid.’ Mary [J. Blige] will tell you, she got paid a lot of money on the show the whole time. I made sure that sh*t was right.”

50 Cent Reveals Omari Hardwick’s “Power” Character Originally Had A Much Different Ending

50 Cent discussed his relationship with Power star Omari Hardwick and his controversial comments about working on the show during a recent interview with Gillie Da Kid. 50 began by explaining that Hardwick’s comments about feeling underpaid weren’t directed at him. He revealed that the actor hit him up in the DMs after the story broke, claiming that his quotes were misleading. He continued: “At the end of the day, Ghost was supposed to die when I died. I extended it… The problem with working with 50 Cent is, it’s 50 Cent’s show.”

When The Neighborhood Talk shared 50’s comments on Instagram, fans jumped in the comments section to share their opinions on the situation. “I hate how slow yall are. He not saying he didn’t wanna pay him clearly Starz didn’t & instead of killing him off when they initially wanted to, he extended until Season 5. Simple,” one user wrote. Another had a different take, writing: “But he was the FACEEEEEEEEEEEEEE of the show and network. That’s different than being some regular character. When you thought of the show you automatically pictured him!”

As for Hardwick’s criticism, he complained about the finale of Power while speaking at a panel during the TriBeca Film Festival. “I’m with y’all in this sense, I’m with you in the sense that the way the story was sold and told to me is not befitting of the way it ended, guys. So y’all have every right to be like, ‘It didn’t end right,’” he said. “And because we don’t honor our fans enough, and I know me, Matt, and Trey are different. We honor y’all, we honor our fans, man. We often forget that the fans are being sold and told a story that has a genesis, and that it has to end the way that it was sold.”

50 Cent Speaks On Omari Hardwick

50 previously addressed Hardwick’s complaints in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “This [ninja emoji] is a strange bird,” 50 said at the time. “The f*ck is he talking about? I never done nothing but look out for him. If he needed something I gave it to him. I understand now, that shit didn’t matter at all.” Check out his latest remarks below. 50 Cent Dismisses Omari Hardwick’s Complaints About How “Power” Ended

Arguably the biggest star from 50 Cent and Courtney Kemp’s hit series Power, Omari Hardwick, recently spoke out about fans’ disappointment in the ending and how he agrees that the network and show-runners didn’t do justice to his role (the main character Ghost) with his eventual death. “I’m with y’all in this sense,” Hardwick remarked at the Tribeca Film Festival recently. “I’m with you in the sense that the way the story was sold and told to me is not befitting of the way it ended, guys. So y’all have every right to be like, ‘It didn’t end right.’

“And because we don’t honor our fans enough, and I know me, Matt, and Trey are different,” Omari Hardwick went on. “We honor y’all, we honor our fans, man. We often forget that the fans are being sold and told a story that has a genesis, and that it has to end the way that it was sold.” Well, it seems like this didn’t sit well with the brain who turned Power into a multi-series juggernaut. 50 Cent recently took to Instagram to react to Hardwick’s comments, and he voiced some striking disappointment.

“This [ninja emoji] is a strange bird [bird emoji],” 50 Cent wrote in the caption of the post above. “The f**k is he talking about, [raised-eyebrow emoji] I never done nothing but look out for him. If he needed something I gave it to him. I understand now, that s**t didn’t matter.” Of course, the G-Unit mogul definitely could’ve gone way harder, as he proves time and time again with his Diddy disses. But this is more of a question about storytelling and satisfaction rather than gratitude and assistance, so perhaps Fif needs to shift gears.

Meanwhile, last year, Omari Hardwick revealed that Starz offered him to come back to the Power universe, but 50 Cent and the team couldn’t make it happen on Hardwick’s terms. “It would have to be the perfect thing,” he remarked. “They asked me before to come back. They asked me in the last year and a half to come back. When [they] offered this, when I was in Boston reading this script, I was in Boston saying ‘and then this.’ And then the ‘then this’ went to Starz and then they didn’t come back. They didn’t give me what I wanted on the ‘then this.’ So if they gave me the ‘then this’…but it would need to be the right ‘that.’”

Vic Mensa officially shared an updated tracklist for his forthcoming sophomore album VICTOR (out this Friday). The new project will include features from Omari HardwickJay ElectronicaCommonRapsodyDIXSONLekanAnt ClemonsD Smoke, and Mr. Hudson. Earlier this week, the multi-platinum selling, GRAMMY-nominated rapper/producer also released an additional single from the record titled “LVLN UP” as part of the NFL and Roc Nation’s Songs of the Season initiative through the NFL’s Inspire Change social justice platform. Vic’s song is the newest addition to the multi-tier, season-long initiative that will highlight superstars and emerging artists of all genres. States Vic, ““LVLN UP” is a centerpiece of the VICTOR album. I made it in Ghana using samples of Ebo Taylor, a highlife pioneer from the 60s & 70s that was a contemporary of Fela Kuti. I produced the record and wrote the hook out there, but it wasn’t until I got locked up in early 2022 that I really got the inspiration to complete the record. It’s a super anthemic joint so to have it used in NFL Songs Of The Season works perfectly.” To celebrate the project, Vic Mensa will be hosting an album release event in his hometown of Chicago labeled as the “The Mensa Melee” in which Vic will set up a boxing ring and put on a boxing exhibition soundtracked by the album. Omari Hardwick Says He Was Made An Offer To Return To “Power”

Power and its various sequels have been a smash hit for Starz and series creator 50 Cent. The original show, Power, ran for six seasons from 2014 and 2020. It centered on drug dealer James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) as he tried to leave the world of crime behind.

However, Hardwick was left behind when Power ended in 2020. While three spinoffs/sequels (Ghost, Raising Kanan, and Force) have been created and enjoying equal success, Hardwick has not returned. Even though one of the sequels, Ghost, bares his character’s name, he still hasn’t appeared. Instead, the show focuses on his character’s son as he tries to navigate his own life, as well as his father’s legacy.

Starz Allegedly Ghosted Hardwick

During the press tour for the upcoming The Mother, Hardwick was asked whether he would reprise his role as Ghost. “It would have to be the perfect thing,” Hardwick lamented before revealing a shocking twist. “They asked me before to come back. They asked me in the last year and a half to come back. When I was offered this, when I was in Boston reading this script. I was in Boston saying “and then this”. And then the “then this” went to Starz and then they didn’t come back. They didn’t give me what I wanted on the “then this”. So if they gave me the “then this”…but it would need to be the right “that”.”

Despite Hardwick helping make Power what it is today, it appears that Starz wasn’t willing to pay out to get him back. Perhaps this is part of the reason that 50 Cent is looking to move away from the network. However, this is sadly nothing new. Neve Campbell did not return for 2023’s Scream 6 after being lowballed by studio executives. Despite the fact there would be no Scream franchise without Campbell, the rights owners weren’t willing to pay her a fair rate. Since leaving Power, Hardwick has enjoyed a modicum of mainstream success. He has appeared in Army of the Dead and its unreleased spinoff Lost Vegas. Furthermore, he has appeared in Fantasy Football and Pieces of Her.

Omari Hardwick Says He Was Paid $150k Per Episode On “Power”

Omari Hardwick Recalls Denzel Washington and His Wife Taking Him in As Their Own Son During Early Days of His Career

Power might’ve been one of the most popular shows on tv until its original un-ended in early 2020, but with the success of its many spinoffs, it has continued to be one of the most popular shows on tv. Despite the show’s success, Omari Hardwick, who rose to fame after playing James St. Patrick, recently revealed how much he made per episode and how he even had to borrow money from 50 Cent at one point.

Hardwick appeared on The Pivot podcast where he revealed that he was not earning what he thought he should have been earning. “I still haven’t made what I should have made. I still never made the money—no, the money, I never made what I should have made. Never,” Hardwick said. “Period. It’s happening now, finally.” He noted that he fianlly felt like he made it when he landed the role in Power.

Hardwick then went into detail about how he was borrowing money from 50 Cent in the summers after the first and second seasons of Power. “He gave me $20,000 and the next summer he gave me $23,000,” Hardwick said, adding that he might’ve done it because of how much he adored Hardwick’s wife, Jennifer, and their two kids. “He might like them more than me. It was absolutely given in a way of, like, you know take care of the family bro, use that,” Hardwick added.

Hardwick went on to say how even by the show’s 6th and final season, he “never” go the salary he wanted. “How much do you think I made a week? An episode,” he asked the hosts. One guessed around $150,000 per episode. “You got it right, yeah,” he replied. “First time I’ve ever disclosed it.”
