Elliott Wilson Ranks Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” As The Greatest Diss Track Of All Time

Elliott Wilson shared immense praise for Kendrick Lamar’s hit song, “Not Like Us,” while reflecting on 2024 for the latest episode of The Bigger Picture podcast. In doing so, he ranked the song above 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” and Nas’ “Ether” as the best diss track of all time.

“I feel like it’s bigger than ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ at this point. So, to do that is insane. I thought that would never happen. I thought no one would make a greater diss record than ‘Hit ‘Em Up.’ ‘Ether’ is what it is because I’m from New York, I know what that meant. Even against, Jay, my guy.” He explained that, earlier this year, he ranked “Not Like Us” as the third-best diss record of all time, but his opinion has since changed. “As time has gone on, yeah, ‘Not Like Us.’ Drake lost a battle to the greatest diss song ever against him and still hasn’t recovered.” He added that he doesn’t think Drake has made a single correct move since the release of “Not Like Us.”

Fans on social media have been disagreeing with Wilson’s hot take. “@ElliottWilson the amount of swallowing you do is insane. Levels of this magnitude of d riding has never been seen before,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) argued. Another wrote in response: “And this is why he will never be taken serious. Stop trying to get the young crowd u an old head. Have old head takes.”

In other news, Drake recently took legal action against Universal Music Group over the release of “Not Like Us.” He’s accused the company of defamation and also allegedly inflating the song’s sales numbers. Check out Elliott Wilson’s full discussion of “Not Like Us” below.

Billboard Reveals Massive Revenue From Drake And Kendrick Lamar Disses

Drake and Kendrick Lamar were the hip hop story of 2024. They dominated the conversation from the start of the year to the end. They were responsible for the most discourse, and their songs absolutely dominated the charts. Lamar managed to score two number one singles with Drake disses. To put this into context, Lamar only had two number singles in his career prior to the feud. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Drake and Lamar’s Billboard numbers are bonkers. What is a surprise, though, is just how much money they generated.

Billboard released the revenue from each of the diss songs that charted on the Hot 100. The numbers are staggering. In total, Drake and Kendrick Lamar brought in $15.3 million. That’s from six songs. Billboard is not even counting the disses that failed to make it to streaming. “Taylor Made Freestyle,” “616 In LA” and “The Heart Part 6” did not contribute to the $15.3 million, which makes the number even more shocking. Kendrick Lamar’s disses led the pack in terms of financially successful songs. “Not Like Us” generated a whopping $7.6 million, while “Like That” pulled in $4.6 million. These are the number one records we just alluded to. Drake, meanwhile, generated $981.3K for his scathing diss, “Family Matters.”

Drake And K. Dot Generated Over $15 Million

Drizzy may have been crowned the loser, but his disses were not slouches in terms of performance. His other diss, “Push Ups,” brought in $969.4K. Unfortunately for the 6 God, Kendrick Lamar takes the final two spots. He released more diss records, so it makes sense. “Meet the Grahams” earned $795.1 K, all while being one of the most unnerving and haunting songs of the decade. It’s also garnered attention as of late due to the timestamps that have been added to each verse on YouTube. Lamar’s “Euphoria” is the last entry on the list. The banger pulled in $441.3K.

There’s been talk about whether a “Big Three” ever truly existed. Some have said no, and argue that Drake and Kendrick Lamar are not as relevant as the “Big Three” narrative claims. Well, the numbers do suggest that these two still dominate the conversation. Spotify recently released its stats for the most streamed rappers in the world. Drake placed at number one (again), and Lamar placed at number five. These achievements, coupled with Billboard’s revenue chart, suggest that Drizzy and Kenny are going nowhere.

Wack 100 Alleges Drake Kissing Teenage Fan Led To Kendrick Lamar’s Predator Accusations

Back in November, Drake decided to take legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify over Kendrick Lamar’s hit diss track, “Not Like Us.” In a pre-action petition, he accused the two companies of artificially boosting the song using bots and payola. He also alleged that UMG could have prevented its release. Unsurprisingly, this earned mixed reactions among fans and peers. Some think there’s a chance he could expose alleged corruption in the music industry. Others think it simply makes him look jealous of the Compton rapper’s success.

During a recent interview with VladTV, Wack 100 shared his take on the debacle, making it clear that he’s not siding with Drake. “The slander thing I don’t understand, because like the things you said about Kendrick was a direct shot at his wife, a direct shot at his child, and you had no physical video or audio proof of anything you were saying,” he claimed. “And a direct shot at his manager who is also his best friend.”

Wack 100 Discusses Drake’s UMG Petition

“So you’re lying on a man, you’re disrespecting a woman, and you’re attacking a child,” he continued. “Now, from what Kendrick said, respectfully, he has audio and video. Was pedophilia happening onstage, no. But you can see and hear what’s being said and the questions that’s being asked. You can hear the young lady state her age.” Wack is referring to footage of Drake kissing a 17-year-old fan onstage during a 2010 performance. The footage resurfaced shortly after Kendrick dropped “Not Like Us.”

In the footage, Drake is heard asking the fan her age and making suggestive comments about her body before kissing her. For obvious reasons, this behavior has since been called into question, sparking a debate about whether or not it was appropriate. The performance took place in Denver, Colorado, where the legal age of consent is 17.

Pusha T Trolls Drake For Taking Legal Action Over Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”

Pusha T weighed in on Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s ongoing feud during a conversation with Ari Melber at Art Basel in Miami on Friday. In doing so, he brought up the Toronto rapper’s decision to take legal action against Universal Music Group over the release of the diss track, “Not Like Us.” Drake filed petitions against the company accusing them of defamation for not stopping the release of the song as well as allegedly artificially boosting its sales.

“One thousand percent,” Push said when asked if Lamar was the winner of the battle. “I think Kendrick Lamar is a lyricist. And a lyricist that talks to your soul. You can be clever, you can say cute things. You can do things in cadences…but the truth really hurts. The truth cuts deep. What Kendrick was really doing was talking to his soul. I believe that. I believe that would cause you to tap out. That will cause you to sue. That will cause you to do a lot of things. It’s crazy.”

Push also went on to praise Lamar’s artistry overall, crediting him for platforming quality lyricism at such a high level. “It’s good to see lyricism be looked at and respected on such a high level and it’s dope because … what Kendrick did for what we do as rappers was very big,” he said.

Pusha T Weighs In On Drake & Kendrick Lamar

Pusha famously battled Drake himself back in 2018, dropping the wildly successful diss track, “Story of Adidon.” Lamar even referenced that beef in his own song, “Euphoria.” Check out Pusha T’s full discussion about Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef below.

Drake Trolls Kendrick: Disses & Drama In Hip-Hop’s Top Feud

As the kerfuffle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake enters the legal system, it doesn’t mean that Aubrey Graham’s trolling has come to a halt. Despite being one of the top-selling artists in the world, the OVO head honcho has had quite a rough year. His war of words with K.Dot has dominated Hip Hop conversations since its lyrical launch in the Spring of 2024. Now, Drizzy has set off a controversial lawsuit against UMG regarding allegedly using illegal bots to boost the success of Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” Some found it surprising, considering the seemingly organic global sensation that the hit track became, but the 6 God doesn’t seem to be taking his L in stride.

Yet, there are those who don’t believe that Drake suffered a loss in this Rap beef. Granted, it will go down in Hip Hop history as one of the greatest battles between chart-topping artists to date, making it an ongoing hot topic across outlets, podcasts, and social media users looking to spark discussions. A point that no one could ignore is Graham’s incessant trolling of his opponent, taking to the internet to drop off photos, comments, gestures, and the like to poke the bear. They are moves that Lamar seemed to reference in his lyrics, but it hasn’t stopped Drake from using trolling to show Dot’s attacks don’t faze him. We’ve gathered just a handful of Drizzy’s attempts at prodding Kendrick during their beef, and some believe that, often, Champagne Papi is his own worst enemy.

Targeting Kendrick Lamar’s Manager

In Rap beef, some say anything goes and no one is safe, and Drake made sure to include not only Lamar’s family, but to troll the rapper’s manager, Anthony Selah. Back in April, Drake added a photo of Selah to his Instagram Story, where he mocked the entertainment executive. In between turtle emojis, he wrote, “Wonder is today the day,” seemingly referencing that Kendrick was taking too long issuing a response to a track. That wasn’t all—Drizzy popped back up the following day with another image of Selah. This time, it was a photo of the music manager holding two large OVO bags with the caption, “We getting in our bag or nah?” It looks like Lamar’s camp certainly was.

“They Have Nothing To Drop”

Although the tension between Drake and Kendrick didn’t begin in 2024, it indeed reached its peak this year. Two days after trolling Anthony Selah, DJ Akademiks reposted a message from L.A.’s REAL 92.3’s DJ Hed. The media personality didn’t take kindly to the way Drake was moving on the internet. “The Canadian ‘responded’ after over a decade of being dared to come outside,” Hed wrote. “Still has yet to officially claim said ‘response.’ He’s now taunting Ant in attempts to garner a reaction. If you enjoy microwave meals that’s on you. We prefer cooked food on this side.” Akademiks also caught a stray when DJ Hed told him “to post that.” Later, Drizzy took to trolling Hed by replying, “Use me as a ‘they have nothing to drop’ button,” egging on the opposition and their supporters.

Compton Community College ‘Fit

April was a busy month of trolling for Drake because a little over a week after prodding Selah and firing back at DJ Hed, another photo stirred controversy. The OVO star is known for posing on the ‘Gram, showing off his luxury fits, jewelry, and vacations. However, some believed he was throwing shade at Kendrick Lamar by rocking a Compton Community College sweatshirt, a school with which Dot has been actively involved for many years. Further, Lamar has always carried his hometown of Compton on his back throughout his career and activism.

This was a blatant dig, but it didn’t do much—other than that, in June 2024, in the throes of the Rap beef, Dot made a surprise appearance at Compton Community College. There, he delivered an inspiring commencement speech. “I wanted to come out here just to tell y’all how much I appreciate y’all. I’m proud of the city of Compton, I’m proud of Compton College, most importantly, I’m proud of the graduates out here,” said Lamar. “I know what it takes. You had a lot of hardship, not only in your house, in your communities, but most importantly, in yourself, and that’s the toughest thing to overcome. We still growing day by day, brick by brick, making sure we develop, not only in the physical form but in the spiritual as well.”

Tupac & Snoop A.I. Verses

One of the strangest parts of this Rap beef between these two heavy hitters had to be Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle.” The track perplexed listeners not only due to its A.I.-generated verses from Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur but also because many didn’t understand why Drake would think this was a flex. Additionally, it caught the attention of U.S. Senator Tom Tillis from North Carolina. Drizzy and Co. wanted to use the two West Coast, Los Angeles legends’ voices to mock Lamar, but it backfired across the board.

Later, Tupac’s estate emerged with a reported cease and desist letter, while Snoop shared a video on social media, evidently addressing the controversy. Moreover, Drake decided to remove the song from the internet, avoiding the legal drama. As far as Senator Tillis is concerned, he has long advocated for protecting entertainers’ likenesses and voices when addressing the future of A.I. Tillis played a portion of the A.I. verses from “Taylor Made Freestyle” in Congress. He punched the importance of lawmaking surrounding the topic. “So, we’ve got work to do and legislation addressing the misuse of digital replicas will have a multi-billion dollar implication,” said Senator Tillis. “We’ve got to get it under control.”

Wearing A Tupac Shirt Amid Beef Battle

Both Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been outspoken regarding their admiration of the late Tupac Shakur. Both have cited him as an influence, but for some, Dot has exemplified Pac’s character and talents. Yet, although Southern California wasn’t Shakur’s birthplace, he is long hailed as a West Coast G.O.A.T. from the Bay to L.A. This is felt throughout Hip Hop, as artists from California often call on Tupac as their inspiration. This includes Lamar, who never skips a beat to praise the activist, lyricist, and Hip Hop icon as a motivator in his career.

This is why, when in July, Drizzy posed, once again, on the ‘Gram to show off another gossip-worthy ‘fit. While he trolled Kendrick with the Compton Community College shirt the first time around, he returned with a Tupac look that made fans think he was subliminally targeting Lamar. Drake’s “Only God Can Judge Me” t-shirt wasn’t exactly subtle, especially considering his A.I. Tupac verse. Lamar mentioned Drake’s admiration of Pac during their battle on “Not Like Us.” He rhymed, “You think the Bay ‘gon let you disrespect Pac, n*gga / I think that Oakland show gon’ be your last stop, n*gga.”

Custaaaard!

Hip Hop exploded when Kendrick Lamar dropped his surprise GNX, an album hailed as a classic within 24 hours. One word has taken over social media timelines as his lyrics, cadence, and musicality continue to be dissected. On the Lefty Gunplay-assisted “TV Off,” Dot yells, “Mustaaaaard,” referencing famed L.A. producer DJ Mustard, who is also one of the primary producers of “Not Like Us.” The shout from Lamar on the “TV Off” has become a cultural phenomenon, with billion-dollar corporations like McDonalds even jumping in on the fun.

Drake has also seen the hype because he dropped in the comment section of LosPollosTV’s Livestream. The discussion was focused on comparing Drake’s Certified Lover Boy to Lamar’s GNX, and Drizzy slid in with a quick message: “CUSTAAAARRRRRD.” He kept things going by asking viewers to back up his trolling with, “We need a donut emoji in the chat custarrrrddddd.”

Taylor Swift Producer Jack Antonoff Roasts Drake By Joking About Universal Lawsuit

Taylor Swift producer Jack Antonoff got some jokes off at Drake‘s expense while giving his acceptance speech at Variety’s Hitmakers Brunch on Saturday (Dec. 7). Referring to Drake’s lawsuit with Universal Music Group, Antonoff told the audience he has plans to sue the music giant as well. “I’d like to announce that I’m suing Universal,” he said for laughs. The joke received mixed reactions. Resulting in Jack suggesting it was good laugh, saying, “That’s a pretty good joke you f*ckers.”

Drake and Jack Antonoff’s issues have never been addressed. Antonoff was instrumental in the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The producer contributed to Lamar’s “Euphoria” and the entire GNX album. Antonoff was honored with Producer of the Decade at the Hitmakers Brunch while GNX continued to run rampant on the Billboard charts.

Jack Antonoff Jabs Drake With Universal Lawsuit Joke At Variety Hitmakers

Drizzy has never commented on Jack Antonoff. Drake has been the only one receiving jabs by Antonoff in 2024. The producer joked about Ye over the summer while on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Referencing Ye while discussing why he doesn’t like working with men in the music industry.

“I think men… There’s two people that I think are almost too over-sensitive to even function, and it’s men and members of the music industry,” explained Antonoff to Jimmy and the audience. “The amount of sensitivity… it’s sort of like watching Kanye. By the way — and Jimmy, you might like this because I know that you have your own relationship with the right and how you interact with them, and you’re much closer to how I see these things than other people. So I just do more of this, like… like if I saw Kanye, I would run up to him and be like, ‘The diaper… your diaper is so full, we have to change your diaper. Your diaper needs to be changed, there’s a huge problem.’”

Pusha T Explains Why Kendrick Lamar 1000% Won The Beef Against Drake

Pusha T believes “1000%” that Kendrick Lamar beat Drake in their iconic rap battle earlier this year. Speaking to popular journalist Ari Melber at Saint Sessions Live, King Push was asked about the beef and delivered a meticulous answer about Lamar’s win. “Kendrick is a lyricist that talks to your soul…,” Pusha T replied. “The truth really hurts. The truth cuts deep. I think Kendrick was really talking to [Drake’s] soul.” Arguably one of the only other people to defeat Drake in a battle, Push added: “That would cause you to tap out. That’ll cause you to sue.”

Pusha T is referring to Drake’s pending lawsuit against Universal Music Group, which was announced last week. Drizzy is accusing the music giant of using “payola” tactics to boost the sales of his rival Kendrick Lamar’s massive single and diss track against the 6 God, “Not Like Us.” UMG has denied any payola advancement claims. The lawsuit claims UMG advised Drake to sue Kendrick Lamar instead of them and would assist with an additional lawsuit against Kung Fu Kenny if Drizzy filed against him. Pusha T has been very vocal throughout the battle as he and Drizzy have previous beef.

Pusha T Explains How Kendrick Lamar Won The Drake Battle

Pusha T and Drake’s beef produced infamous diss tracks “Duffy Freestyle” and “The Story of Adidon.” Many argued that Drake suffered his first loss to King Push, which claims to have resulted in the loss of a high-profile brand partnership for Drizzy with Adidas. Like Pusha T, a beef between Kendrick Lamar and the 6 God had been brewing for years.

Kendrick Lamar continues to criticize Drizzy on his latest album, GNX, which will tour nationwide in April. Drizzy claims to be unfazed by the battle, as he announced an Australia and New Zealand tour last week that kicks off in February. Drake was announced as the Spotify most streamed artist of 2024 this week. As for Pusha, fans are awaiting the highly-anticipated Clipse reunion album produced entirely by Pharrell Wiliams coming soon.

Drake’s Petition Against UMG & Spotify Over “Not Like Us” Gets Hearing Date

Late last month, Drake decided to take legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) over Kendrick Lamar’s hit diss track “Not Like Us.” In a pre-action petition, he accuses UMG and Spotify of using bots, payola, and more to artificially inflate the popularity of the song. He also accuses UMG of defamation, alleging that they could have prevented the release of the song in which Kendrick accuses him of being a sexual predator.

“UMG did not rely on chance, or even ordinary business practices,” the petition alleges. “It instead launched a campaign to manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves.” Now, a hearing has been scheduled for December 20, according to Kurrco. It remains to be seen what exactly will play out in this case, but of course, social media users have their theories. There have been mixed reactions to Drake’s petition since news of it hit the internet. Some think Drake has a chance of exposing alleged corruption in the music industry. Others think this just makes him look jealous of Kendrick’s success.

During a recent episode of his Apple Music show, for example, Ebro shared why he thinks Drake will end up taking a loss. “I’ve worked in the radio business and the media for 30 years,” he said. “There’s allegations of payola… I’ve been investigated, people I’ve worked with been investigated and nothing has ever come to fruition.” Funkmaster Flex, on the other hand, thinks Drake is in the right.

“DRAKE IS 100% RIGHT!” he wrote in part on X. “NATIONAL PLAY! (PER SONG) DRAKE DONT $ FOR PLAY! Apple Music’s Replay 2024 Is Here (With Some New Features), As Are Apple’s Year-End Charts

It’s officially December, which is when folks tend to start looking back on how their year went. That perhaps most notably applies to the music world, as early December is when users of streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify get their year-end listening activity recaps that take over social media. Well, Apple Music’s version of that, Replay 2024, has arrived today (December 3).

The experience is available now via either the Apple Music app (for iPhone users on iOS 18.1 or later) or replay.music.apple.com.

Aside from the usual look at a user’s most-playing songs, artists, and albums of the year, Apple has introduced some new features this year. Previously, users could see if they were among the top 100 listeners of a certain artist or genre, but now that has been expanded to the top 500 and top 1,000. Users can also learn the most consecutive days they’ve listened to Apple Music.

Other highlights include the top artist streak, which lets users see if they’ve had an artist as their top artist for consecutive months. There’s also a monthly replay, and a date of first play, so users can see when they first listened to their top song, artist, and album.

Meanwhile, Apple Music also unveiled its year-end charts today. Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” was the top-streamed song on Apple Music globally, Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” was the most-identified song on Shazam, and Dua Lipa’s “Houdini” is the most-played song on radio worldwide.

Drake All Smiles At The Club After Threatening UMG Over “Not Like Us”

It’s been a difficult year for Drake. The Toronto rapper went head-to-head with Kendrick Lamar in a viral rap battle, and according to most, lost. Earlier this month, Kendrick unleashed his new album GNX by surprise too. It’s been a major success, prompting big reactions from internet trolls. Just a few days after the unexpected drop, Drake also decided to take legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) over Kendrick’s hit diss track “Not Like Us.”

He accuses the label and Spotify of manipulating streams through botting and influencers. He also alleges that UMG could have stopped the song from being released. In turn, this would have prevented the spread of allegations that he’s a predator. Of course, he’s been getting clowned for this as well, though some think there’s a chance he could make a serious change in the music industry. Regardless, social media users can be ruthless, especially when it comes to Drake these days.

Drake Appears Unbothered In New Clip Despite UMG Drama

Luckily, however, it doesn’t look like Drake has let all of this get him down too much. In a new clip shared by Akademiks TV on X, he’s seen smiling and laughing at a club with some friends. He appeared to be in shockingly good spirits despite everything going on, and his supporters are glad to see it. While this indicates that Drake isn’t completely hung up on the drama, it seems like he’s at least a bit tuned in. Earlier today, for example, one Instagram user shared a post asking followers whether or not Drake could win the legal battle with UMG and “declare war on the music industry.”

Timbaland responded with a GIF of someone shaking their head, suggesting that he’s not entirely convinced this is possible. Internet sleuths then quickly realized that Drake unfollowed Timbaland, meaning he could have taken offense to his comment.
