Compared to the majority of other young adults his age, 20-year-old NLE Choppa has accomplished a lot. The Memphis native has worked with the likes of Lil Wayne, 2Rare, Lil Baby, and Roddy Ricch so far, and only has his sights set on further rising his star within the music industry. Mid-way through the summer, Choppa began teasing a new track that finds him putting his spin on Nelly’s “Hot In Herre.” While “It’s Getting Hot” has gotten mixed reviews from listeners on the internet so far, the lyricist is feeling more confident than ever, according to one of his recent tweets.
“I’M THE GREATEST,” NLE declared on Monday (August 14) afternoon. “Y’ALL COUNTED ME OUT, NOW THEY LOST COUNT. I DO THIS TIME AND TIME AGAIN, HIT AFTER HIT, SONG AFTER SONG. DON’T PLAY WITH ME. [BETTER] NOT EVER TRY AGAIN, SHOW ‘EM MY STREAMS MAMAMMMMAAA #ItsGettingHot,” the Southern entertainer excitedly bragged. Of course, we have seen a number of Choppa’s songs go viral due to their catchy nature on platforms like TikTok, but there are still those trying to deny his success.
“Not to be dramatic when I say this but this might be the worst song of 2023,” one Twitter user dissed NLE’s work in late July. Rather than getting defensive or lashing out at his haters, the Cottonwood artist responded back with a string of “” emojis, making it clear that he finds humour in those attempting to tear him down. Even if not all listeners are feeling his new take on a classic, Nelly at least gave Choppa a shoutout on social media, cementing his all-important seal of approval.
No matter what the critics have to say about “It’s Getting Hot,” NLE Choppa continues to move forward with confidence. NLE Choppa has the summer on lock. With his bouncy Lil Wayne collaboration “Ain’t Gonna Answer,” along with his X-rated Sexyy Red remix of “Slut Me Out,” Choppa is slowing down. Tonight, he has dropped a nostalgic new single, “It’s Getting Hot,” which is inspired by an early aughts classic.
“It’s Getting Hot” features a prominent sample of Nelly’s “Hot In Herre,” and even features Choppa replicating the chorus.
“It’s getting hot in here / so take off all your clothes,” raps Choppa, to which a female voice responds, “I am getting so hot, I wanna take my clothes off.”
Of course, Choppa gives the song his own touch, with his raunchy bars throughout.
The song’s accompanying music video even features Choppa channeling Nelly, wearing baggy jeans, a wife-beater, and Nelly’s signature under-eye bandage. In the clip are several callbacks to the 2000s, including a part where Choppa is rapping in the booth, reading from a Sidekick phone. Elsewhere in the video is a woman swinging her hips, with “NLEVILLE,” printed on the backside — an allusion to Nelly’s 2002 album, Nellyville.

After previously teaming up with Lil Wayne on “Ain’t Gonna Answer” and flourishing St. Louis rapper Sexyy Red on “Slut Me Out,” NLE Choppa teams up with fellow Memphian Duke Deuce for his latest video for “Stomp Em Out.”
A hyperactive song sitting in the middle of the spectrum of raucous Memphis rap tradition, “Stomp Em Out” is an exuberant fight song that positions Choppa and Deuce as a pair of neighborhood tough guys ready to rumble with whoever. However, in the video, they show off a different kind of footwork, taking over Beale street with a crew of dancers to to jitterbug and two-step all over the pavement with the kind of energy that lets you know this shoot was a fun one.
The song appears on the deluxe version of Choppa’s new album Cottonwood 2, which is out now via Warner Records. Unfortunately, the touring future for Choppa is up in the air; while he was originally billed as an opener on Lil Durk’s Sorry For The Drought Tour, Durk’s recent health setback canceled all but a handful of the tour dates. We’ll see how NLE Choppa bounces back, but for now, you can check out his video for “Stomp Em Out” above.

“I don’t know, Doc. I just feel like people really be hatin’ on me for no reason, and they don’t really know what be going on. They just be going off of what they see on the internet,” DDG said in his newly dropped official trailer for Maybe It’s Me… while laying on what appears to be a therapist’s coach. “But if people knew what was really going on, like, I wouldn’t even be going through this mentally.”
DDG references “a little screenshot on Twitter scandal” that started his struggle, presumably the DMs exposed his ex-partner Rubi Rose, which has “been going on for, like, five, six months now.” The camera cuts to a young Woo Wop holding a notepad and asking DDG why he decided to DM his ex. DDG said he “was just being petty,” which directly nods toward his February single, “Way Too Petty.”
Woo Wop encourages DDG to “be the bigger person” because he’s “not in the same position as before.”
DDG is about to attract even more attention with the release of Maybe It’s Me…, and below is everything to know about the album so far.
Release Date
Maybe It’s Me… is out Friday, July 14, via DDG Entertainment Inc./Epic Records.
As confirmed by DDG’s Instagram post sharing the tracklist, the album’s featured artists are BIA, Luh Tyler, and NLE Choppa.

Singles
DDG released the sizzling single “This Summer” in early April, but it was quickly overshadowed by the sticky, self-aggrandizing “I’m Geekin.” DDG remixed “I’m Geekin” with Luh Tyler in May and again with BIA and NLE Choppa in June. Most recently, DDG dropped “Trynna Link” last week.
Tour
As of this writing, DDG had no announced plans for a subsequent tour.

NLE Choppa recently had what looked like an enjoyable trip to the zoo. While he was there, he even took the opportunity to shoot a quick music video. He did so with the assistance of a popular videographer, Will Freeark. The videographer, who is also known as SetWillFree, approached NLE Choppa on Saturday. He offered to shoot a music video for the Memphis rapper free of charge. Freeark has gained viral fame for his spontaneous-style video shoots. He has even previously worked with artists like Moneybagg Yo, Toosii, and Bobby Shmurda.
Although NLE Choppa initially seemed hesitant, he eventually agreed to the video. With that, the duo embarked the shoot a video for “Stomp Em Out” on the streets of New York City. It looks like it was an extremely fun shoot. The project involved interactions with locals and a carriage ride. In one scene, the rapper holds someone’s baby and dances with it while he smiles at the camera. It all culminated in a scene shot at the Central Park Zoo, where NLE Choppa dances around and raps in front of seals. The amusing video was later uploaded to Freeark’s official YouTube channel.
NLE Choppa’s Venture Into Sports
Filming spontaneous videos is not the only new thing on NLE Choppa’s plate. it appears that he has joined the ranks of celebrities stepping into the boxing ring. He was spotted in the gym throwing punches at professional boxer Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson. However, after three unsuccessful attempts, Choppa lost his balance. As such, he started running as Truck chased him around the ring. While Choppa has proven his skills in the studio, he has a long way to go in the boxing ring. The video of the boxing incident went viral. This prompted NLE Choppa to share it on his Instagram story and tag Simpson with a humorous caption. Simpson, in turn, shared Choppa’s story on his own profile.
It remains uncertain how far Choppa intends to pursue his boxing aspirations. Still, he clearly has much room for improvement. Unfortunately, luck hasn’t been on Choppa’s side in other sports either. Just two days after opening a basketball court in his hometown, the court burned down. It had been donated by Choppa, former WNBA player Nancy Lieberman, and members of the Memphis city council, as reported by local outlet WREG. What do you think of NLE Choppa’s new video? NLE Choppa’s recently donated basketball court suffered a devastating blow as fireworks destroyed it only a few days after its grand opening. The basketball court, a joint effort between the Memphis rapper and Nancy Lieberman Charities, gained attention on social media for all the wrong reasons.
