As of this writing, Kendrick Lamar has yet to take the stage for his The Pop Out — Ken & Friends set at Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 19, but the Juneteenth celebration has already been a star-studded event. DJ Hed opened the show and welcomed out a slew of guests, including Ray Vaughn, Westside Boogie, Bino Rideaux, and BlueBucksClan. Mustard was up next and took it to another level.
The acclaimed DJ & producer brought out Blxst, Ty Dolla Sign, Dom Kennedy, Steve Lacy, and Tyler The Creator before taking a moment to honor the late Nipsey Hussle. The Jumbotron displayed a photo of the beloved rapper alongside “RIP NIP: THE MARATHON CONTINUES.” Mustard played “Perfect Ten,” the title track from his platinum-certified 2019 album. The song featured Hussle. The crowd predictably erupted, and Mustard said, “Make some noise so loud that Nipsey Hussle can hear you” before playing Hussle’s “Last Time That I Checc’d” featuring YG.
Kia Forum got even louder when Roddy Ricch joined Mustard on stage to perform “Racks In The Middle,” Hussle’s 2019 song featuring Ricch and Hit-Boy.
Hussle was fatally shot on March 31, 2019, while visiting his Marathon clothing store in South LA. He was 33.

South Central Los Angeles rapper G Perico has been feeding the streets with multiple underrated projects in the last decade. After landing some significant feature placements with the likes of Nipsey Hussle, Royce da 5’9″, and J. Cole’s Dreamville, G Perico has continued to increase his base of listeners. His latest project, G Slim’s Revenge, sees the Roc Nation signee dropping some of his toughest gems yet, with numerous highlights across the project. G Slim’s Revenge runs 10 tracks over 22 minutes, with absolutely no skips. Without any further preamble, let’s dissect G Perico’s latest full-length effort, and review the material therein.
The intro track to G Slim’s Revenge is “Any Means,” an ultra-hard lyric-packed opener that perfectly sets the tone for the project. The lyrics explore G Perico’s neighborhood, reference iconic rap refrains, and describe the state of the Black American experience by invoking such significant figures as Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and Barack Obama. G Perico’s trademark blend of high-pitched vocal twang glides perfectly over the rough and rugged West Coast instrumental, even if he does, at times, sound like he’s doing an impression of Nipsey Hussle.
“Troll Patrol” continues this trend, with a swinging instrumental that allows G Perico to flow like a hot knife through butter. His cadence on this track is completely infectious, and may cause you to swerve side to side across a few lanes of traffic if you bump this record in your whip. Perico seems to have really found his groove on this album, as the flows and vocal melodies he presents are as smooth and effortless as they’ve ever sounded.
“How Will” Is A Microcosm Of The Whole Album
G Perico opens the third track “How Will” with a brief spoken intro, stating, “I ain’t gon’ lie man, I just wanna talk sh** on this beat right now.” Not only is that exactly what he delivers on the rest of the track, this statement could serve as the tagline for the entire project. G Slim’s Revenge may not have much of a high concept or a strong thematic through-line, but G Perico’s ability to completely turn out a beat with smooth, gang-heavy raps is all but unparalleled. The pitched-up R&B samples that break up his verses on “How Will” offer a melodic angle to the track. Perico leaps from topic to topic, offering his take on shallow women, his opps, the police, and the impoverished state of his home neighborhood.
Subsequent tracks on G Slim’s Revenge hone in on these topics singularly, with tracks like “She Sexy” offering a look into a particular woman who caught his eye. On the track, G Perico fixates on a woman with independent wealth, excellent taste in clothes and fragrances, and a bossed-up attitude that keeps her in her business. “Luxury” continues as a pop your sh** anthem, full of references to designer brands, expensive cars, and first-class flights. Wallie The Sensei appears as a vocal guest on the latter, with a laid-back melodic hook that perfectly clashes with G’s high-pitched twang.
While G Slim’s Revenge does only run 10 tracks, it is still impressive just how consistent the project is overall. G Perico never hits a lull or a dip in the tracklist and continues to close out the back half of the record as powerfully as the front half. “Throw It Up” offers the best guest verse, with Tiny Doo offering brash, raspy vocal textures that clash perfectly with G Perico’s higher-pitched rhymes.
“Identification” is undoubtedly the climax of the record featuring G Perico’s strongest writing abilities on the entire album. The track centers on snitches, and every single bar could be its own tattoo. The songwriting on this track is exceptional, with every word carefully chosen to further the record’s “stop snitching” message. G Slim’s Revenge closes out with “Outtie,” a brief outro that ruminates on the themes of the album and teases further projects and developments to come in the near future.
While this may not necessarily be a 10/10 album, G Perico has proven on G Slim’s Revenge that he is in rare form, and simply does not miss. The record is bound to be criminally slept on, as Perico currently touts just over half a million monthly Spotify listeners at this time. Still, the record genuinely deserves to be celebrated, and arguably has a place in the top 10 rap records of 2024 so far.
If you’re from the West Coast, or even if you’re not, chances are you’re bumping Dom Kennedy.
The Los Angeles native recently celebrated the 10-year anniversary of his critically acclaimed second studio album, Get Home Safely. The project features standout appearances from Nipsey Hussle, Ty Dolla $ign, TeeFLii, Skeme, and more.
Over the weekend, Dom Kennedy took the stage at the GRAMMY Museum in downtown Los Angeles for an event called Backstage Pass alongside producers Mike & Keys, who played a pivotal role in making the project a masterpiece. The conversation centered around the making of Get Home Safely, along with Dom’s role as CEO of his own label: OPM (Other People’s Money).
With Nipsey Hussle’s death anniversary recently passing, Dom Kennedy shared some words about his relationship with Nipsey and how they struggled together.
“That was a tough loss for everybody, musically,” Dom began. “But for us, as we sit here today, it’s nothing on this album that came out, that he wasn’t there when I recorded it. Or he didn’t hear the beat. And there’s nothing that came out that he made with them at the time, we were working on all of this together. We really were all working on all of this together. In those moments, in those years of struggling with somebody, seeing them day in and day out. Just working on it, unselfishly. It was days where I would record and Nip would sit there. It was days he would record and I’d sit there.”
Dom Kennedy proceeded to reveal that him and Nipsey used the same microphone.
“Crenshaw, Get Home Safely, same microphone,” he continued. “I can hear that microphone when I listen to his songs. The same microphone, I can hear the room in the songs. That’s how close it was. Man, a guy that I have so much respect for. Proud of him for sticking it through. They made Victory Lap, a lot of it. I was able to be on that album.”
Dom Kennedy was featured on “Double Up” alongside Belly, who’s official music video hails over 236 million views and counting.
“But in these times right here, we don’t have to overstate or understate it, but he was a part of it. Not just on a song or anything, he was really eating lunch with us. Driving. We had times, race to the studio. We’d see who’s car was there first. Putting in real work, it wasn’t pretty. On the floor, white t-shirts, house shoes. But with a dream and a vision and a purpose behind it, made it everything. With that attitude of: this is going to work. Every day, with LA confidence. We were never in doubt about anything that we were doing. I don’t think we ever was like aw, we gon’ get up outta here. It’s over. Or they finally got us, we done. No, that was never the case. That was never the case.”
It’s insane to think that Nipsey Hussle has been gone from this Earth in the physical form for five years. On the fifth anniversary of his death, Lauren London delivered a message remembering the love of her life.
Lauren London’s life was radically changed forever on this day (March 31), five years ago. Hip-hop heads know all too well that the start of spring is followed by the sadness of Nipsey Hussle’s untimely death, though his powerful legacy lives on far beyond his time on Earth. This is largely thanks to London, who shares heartfelt tributes to him on social media regularly, reminding us how impactful her partner’s energy was on the countless lives he touched.
On Sunday morning, the 39-year-old posted a handsome photo of Kross’ father. He poses with a stark white Puma tracksuit and an abundance of chains around his next. “If you know me, you know March is always tough for me,” London’s emotional post says. “31 days of holding my breath. This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024, interesting… Considering your name #GodWillRise,” the mother of two added. “Energy never dies… I love you. Eternal Eternal. ,” she concluded her annual memorium.
In the comments, several fans are sharing stories of their interactions with Hussle that are surely putting a smile on London’s face. “My husband was so excited as he had been a long-time fan. He was so kind, he waited for my husband to go back to the car to get his phone so that I could take a picture of them. I’m not going to lie, I was star-struck, but I told him that I loved you Lauren and that made him ,” one Instagram user recalled a chance meeting in St. Louis. “My husband took his passing very hard but tried to stand for the same things Nip stood for… community. Unfortunately, my husband was gunned down on Slauson last summer as well. I pray that their spirits are at .”
Losing her life partner has been hard on Lauren London, not only as a lover but also as a mother. Thankfully, in late 2023 it was confirmed that the black-haired beauty will receive half of Nipsey Hussle’s $11M assets on behalf of their son, Kross. Read all about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
Earlier this year during an episode of the No JumperPodcast a guest on the show made some wild allegations. Luce Cannon made some claims about the murder of Nipsey Hussle that got the attention of a lot of listeners. That’s because he and Wack 100 tried to connect Big U to the murder and claimed that he had something to do with the orchestration of it. Obviously, that allegation made waves online and now U is responding with a cease & desist letter.
The letter he sent cites specific moments and even quotes comments from the podcast episode. In particular, they highlight one claim. Luce claims that he received a call from Big U claiming that Nipsey had been killed before it actually, happened. In fact, he even claims to have called Nipsey to confirm that he was still alive, only for him to be murdered 30 minutes later. “I probably could’ve stopped it” one particular comment highlighted in the letter reads. Check out the full letter asking all parties to cease their claims about Big U below.
In the comments of a post sharing the cease & desist letter, fans react to it. “I’ve never met a bunch Og grown adult men that keep bringing up a man that’s no longer with us. Nobody had thus energy when Nip was alive. I’m so sick and tired of people using Nip for click bait,” one of the top comments on the post reads. “Gangsters sending cease and desist letters: The Rap Game is Over” another comment claims.
Wack 100 and Big U have quite a bit of history together. Despite their beefs in the past, Wack claimed he regretted the hostility and reached out an olive branch a few years ago. In response, U claimed that he didn’t accept any apologies. What do you think of Big U sending a cease & desist letter to the No Jumper Podcast? Do you believe Luce Cannon’s allegations about Nipsey’s murder? Let us know in the comment section below.
Five years have passed since the tragic shooting of rapper Nipsey Hussle outside his Los Angeles clothing store, a moment that sent shockwaves through the music industry and beyond. While his legacy continues to inspire millions, the legal aftermath of his untimely death has been a complex journey, with recent developments shedding light on the ongoing struggles faced by his family.
According to reports from Radar Online, a recent ruling by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has cleared the path for Nipsey Hussle’s children to finally receive their rightful inheritance from his estate. This decision came after the judge dismissed a creditor’s attempt to delay the estate’s closure, ensuring that Nipsey’s offspring are set to receive their first inheritance check.
The creditor in question, songwriter Tasleema Yasin, had filed a motion seeking to keep the case open, citing an alleged debt owed to her by Nipsey Hussle’s estate. Yasin claimed unpaid royalties for her work on the track “Hussle & Motivation,” which was released prior to the rapper’s tragic death. Despite her efforts, the court denied Yasin’s plea, emphasizing the need for a fair and just resolution while suggesting she pursue action against another party involved in the dispute.
Nipsey Hussle’s brother, Sam, opposed Yasin’s request, arguing that she had previously reached a settlement with All in Money LLC regarding the alleged debt. Sam maintained that Yasin’s claims should be directed towards this entity rather than Nipsey’s estate. Ultimately, the judge found insufficient evidence to support Yasin’s case, granting approval for the final report and paving the way for inheritance payments to Nipsey’s children.
Amidst the legal proceedings, Nipsey Hussle’s family continues to struggle with other challenges, including a custody battle over his 15-year-old daughter, Emani. Despite the bitter dispute, the court has appointed Nipsey’s relatives as co-guardians of Emani’s finances, ensuring her well-being alongside her brother, Kross.
The significance of Nipsey Hussle’s estate cannot be understated, with assets valued at approximately $11 million. As a result of the recent ruling, his children are poised to inherit a substantial portion, with Emani and Kross expected to receive around $5 million, alongside ongoing annual payments from the estate.
Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign have finally dropped their collaborative album Vultures, the first in what’s supposed to be a series of album drops. Two more collab volumes are supposedly on the way, plus a Ye solo album called Y3; that last one is according to EPMD legend Erick Sermon. While we’ll never believe a Kanye album rollout until we actually get a release, it’s at least nice to see folks fully react to these new tracks. Moreover, one of the most fun and simple bops on the whole project is “Do It,” which features guest vocals from Nipsey Hussle and YG. Nip’s appearance is actually a sample from the late legend’s leaked song “I Just Wanna Know” song with Cardi B and Ty himself.
That section opens up the track, which then goes into a party banger with a West Coast bounce, soaring string-like embellishments, and haunting background vocals. Ty Dolla Sign delivers a killer hook melody and previews the song’s hedonistic and lustful themes. To no one’s surprise, Kanye West indulges in this theme with no hesitation, including some cheeky lines about Apple Pay. YG does his thing towards the end with a nonchalant demeanor over a beat that sounds perfectly suited to his style. Along with the likes of “Fuk Sumn,” this record encompasses what makes Vultures a fun listen, albeit one that is pretty one-note.
Kanye West & Ty Dolla Sign’s “Do It” With YG: Listen
Meanwhile, amid rumors that the duo will hold another listening event for Vultures in Las Vegas for Super Bowl weekend, maybe we’re far from done with this rollout. After all, we apparently have more projects to listen to, and more bangers to discover. If nothing else, Kanye West, Ty Dolla Sign, and YG prove that they can still make a simple hit without resorting to grandiosity or controversy. If you haven’t heard “Do It” or the rest of Vultures yet, find it on your preferred streaming service… unless they took it down again. Peep some notable lines down below and, as always, check back in with HNHH for more great music releases around the clock.
Quotable Lyrics Spendin’ all this money like it’s free to me, That s**t fall off trees to me, We ain’t even stress, we the new kings and sheiks, We done made a mess, they gon’ have to clean for weeks
When you’re a star, one of the highest honors you can receive is a wax figure. In most cases, Madame Tussaud is responsible for the many meticulous sculptures, which can take up to 20 different artists to complete. The wax museum has locations all over the world, which all create their own wax renditions of different stars.
Other than Madam Tussaud, there is only one other artist that has earned quite a buzz by creating very realistic wax figures. Just recently on Jan 29, artist Mr. Officials, (@mr.officials.llc) posted his tribute re-creation of the late Takeoff. With over 66,000 likes, even celebrities are commenting on how the sculpture is one of the most realistic they’ve seen. Here’s a list of celebs with the best wax figures we’ve seen over the years.
In Sept 2022, Madame Tussaud’s Hollywood unveiled its uncanny, yet faultless wax sculpture of rapper Lil Nas X. The wax figure dons a replication of the gold Versace armor suit Nas wore at the 2021 Met Gala, including a Versace earring, choker and nail art. But the most intricate detail about the “Old Town Road” singer’s life-size sculpture is a replica of his diamond grill, making it the first wax figure in Madame Tussaud’s history to wear one.
Drake
One night in Sept 2021, Drake surprised his London fans with a legendary performance at the Wireless Festival. In tribute to that night, Madame Tussaud’s London created the Canadian rapper’s outfit from that special show. The OVO Sound CEO wore a camouflage shirt and matching pants, a bright green puffer jacket, and white Nike Air Force 1s. His tattoos and ear piercings are included on the wax figure. Further, his signature facial hair and the heart-shaved into his hairline represent his Certified Lover Boy era. According to Madame Tussaud, his likeness also sports replica pieces of Cartier and Van Cleef jewelry.
Nipsey Hussle
In 2022, Mr. Officials (@mr.officials.llc) created the wax figure of the late rapper/activist Nipsey Hussle.Taking nine months to create, an Instagram video shows the process. “The most tedious part, however, is making the hair,” Mr. Officials said. The wax figure also has exact replicas of Nipsey’s tattoos and his signature jewelry. This is reportedly the only Nipsey Hussle wax figure and is not a part of Madam Tussaud’s. However, it did debut in the SouthPark Mall in Cleveland, OH.
Tiffany Haddish
Tiffany Haddish met her wax figure in Sept 2021 at Madam Tussaud’s Las Vegas. The figure wears the infamous Alexander McQueen dress that Haddish wore on multiple occasions. This included her Saturday Night Live performance, the 90th Academy Awards Show, also the red carpet premiere for her movie Girls Trip. The outfit holds special meaning for Haddish; a symbol of her breaking the rule of wearing a dress multiple times.
Jack Harlow was immortalized in July 2023 by Madame Tussaud’s Las Vegas. And the “What’s Poppin” singer could not believe the similarities of his wax figure. It wears a custom-designed suit from his music video for “Churchill Downs”(feat. Drake.) Additionally, his wax figure’s hands are draped in a crystallized necklace with a Kentucky state-shaped pendant. It took the 20 artists six months to create the figure.
Missy Elliott’s wax figure is a recreation of her legendary appearance at the 2019 VMAs, where she was awarded the Video Vanguard Award. Twenty artists went over approximately 200 measurements and photographs of Elliott to capture her exact features. Having creative control over her figure’s fashion and accessories, the result makes it hard to tell the two apart. The figure dons one of her signature tracksuits with an intricate hand embellishment. It also includes a pair of her own Versace sneakers—which she donated. Her elaborate braid design was done “strand by strand.” The doppelgänger is a part of Madam Tussaud’s Las Vegas collection and debuted on Nov 4, 2022.
Kourtney Kardashian & Kris Jenner
Of all the “Kardashian Klan,” it’s Kourtney and momager Kris Jenner who have the most amazingly real-looking wax figures. In May 2019, fans visiting Madame Tussaud’s in New York City were able to see the figures together. The likeness was even more uncanny because Kris wore the exact ensemble to her unveiling. Making it impossible to tell the difference in pics posted on her official X (Twitter) page.
Lauren London, the partner of late rapper Nipsey Hussle, continues to honor his legacy and keep his name alive.
