Nicki Minaj Teases The Female Rapper Posse Cut We’ve All Been Waiting For

It sounds pretty unbelievable, but it has been nearly 24 years since rap last saw an all-women posse cut — and even longer since one had any commercial impact. The last two times more than three female rappers were on a song together spitting verses, Bill Clinton was still in office, the first PlayStation was out, and Cardi B still looked like she bit people. This week, that long drought is about to be broken thanks to Nicki Minaj, of all people.

With her new single “Super Freaky Girl” earning her first solo No. 1 (also the first for a female rapper since ’98), Nicki is upping the ante (super bonus points if you get what I did there) with a remix featuring the first all-women lineup since either Nicki D’s promo record “Six Pack” or Queen Latifah’s “Brownsville.” It’s unclear which actually dropped first — the internet back then wasn’t what it is today [*reminisces in dial-up*].

Today, Nicki finally teased the lineup for her remix, sharing the bootylicious cover art, which only shows the six women from behind, all wearing matching boots and teeny silver bikinis. The clues to their identities come in the form of a suitcase at the forefront of the picture featuring stickers with the women’s origin cities on them. They read: Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, and New York.

Naturally, fans are already speculating on just who the guest rappers might be. Considering the cities involved, it would seem that Boston’s the easiest to guess: That would be BIA, who Nicki previously collaborated with on the remix to “Whole Lotta Money.” It only makes sense that she’d return the favor. Meanwhile, Miami would almost certainly be City Girls, although Trina wouldn’t be out of the question, as they’ve worked together before. Chicago gets a little iffier — the only really viable acts from there are acts like Dreezy and the unpredictable Cupcakke, with fans leaning more toward the latter.

Atlanta’s also obvious: If it ain’t Latto, I’ll eat my hat. Despite Latto previously worked with Nicki’s longtime rival Cardi B, the Atlantan rising star was also careful to avoid picking sides when media goaded her to. And as far as New York goes, sure, that could be Nicki herself, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see her roll the dice on a DreamDoll feature, which would launch the bubbling artist into the stratosphere. There’s one other female rapper from New York that would blow fans’ minds, and I wouldn’t put it past Nicki to use this opportunity to really surprise people, but the main reason it’d be a surprise is that it’s so unlikely. Some fans also seem to be projecting a Flo Milli appearance, but there isn’t a Montgomery, Alabama sticker on that suitcase.

The good news is, we only have to wait a work day to find out. Nicki says she’ll be premiering the song on her Queen Radio podcast at 8 pm ET and 5 pm PT, unless she has those timezones mixed up, in which case, it’ll be 11 pm ET and 8 pm PT. Stay tuned.

Nicki Minaj Thanks Jay-Z And Beyoncé For Their Thoughtful Video Vanguard Award Congratulations Gift

Nicki Minaj is still flying high after receiving MTV’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at Sunday’s VMAs. Yesterday, she posted a gracious “thank you” note addressed to Beyoncé and Jay-Z for the thoughtful gift they sent to congratulate her. Although the power couple did not attend the VMAs in person, they did make sure to acknowledge Nicki’s achievement with a bouquet of white roses, which Nicki captured in a video posted on her Instagram Story. “Congrats on your beautiful award,” the accompanying card read. “Sending you all of our love. Hov and B Holla.”

In turn, Nicki gushed back, “Thank you so much. The both of you. For everything.”

Both of the music stars turned moguls were instrumental in Nicki Minaj’s success. In her Video Vanguard Awards acceptance speech, she named both as inspirations. Jay-Z was among the artists she cited for inspiring her flow along with Doug E. Fresh(!?), Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill, Lil Wayne, and Slick Rick (Lil Kim was noticeably absent, as fans pointed out on Twitter). Meanwhile, Nicki mentioned Beyoncé as one of the “people who gave me huge opportunities that I’ll never forget,” which also included Britney Spears, Eminem, Kanye West, Madonna, Mariah Carey, and Rihanna.

Those contributions and more have launched Nicki to heights last seen over 20 years ago; her new single, “Super Freaky Girl,” was the first by a solo female rap act to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998.

Nicki Minaj Receives Video Vanguard Congratulatory Flowers From the Carters: ‘Congrats on Your Beautiful Award’

Nicki Minaj Performs Nine-Song Medly and Accepts Video Vanguard Award at MTV VMAs

Nicki Minaj is running the rap world right now. This past Sunday, Minaj accepted the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she also hosted and performed.

Showing that she is still marveling at the moment, Minaj revealed she received flowers celebrating the moment from JAY-Z and Beyoncé.

“Congrats on your beautiful award. Sending you all our love. Hov & B Holla,” the note read.

With a marathon nine-song performance on her “Barbie Dream House” stage, international superstar Nicki Minaj was celebrated with MTV’s coveted Video Vanguard Award.

Minaj’s set included the hits “All Things Go,” “Roman’s Revenge,” “Monster,” “Beez in the Trap,” “Chun-Li,” “Moment 4 Life,” “Super Bass,” “Anaconda,” and the world premiere of her brand-new song, “Super Freaky Girl.”

Additionally, she gave a moving acceptance speech in which she emphasized the value of mental health and thanked her devoted “Barbz” for their continuous support.

Nicki Minaj and her new single “Super Freaky Girl” debuted on top of the Billboard Hot 100. The single is Minaj’s third time on top of the chart, but her first time unaccompanied. She previously appeared alongside 6ix9ine on top with “Trollz” and with Doja Cat on “Say So.”

In addition to the top of the Hot 100, Minaj’s new single tops the Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales charts.

Adding to the moment, Minaj topping the charts follows “Break My Soul” by Beyoncé and “About Damn Time” by Lizzo, making for the first time in this century that three solo Black female artists have topped the Hot 100. Minaj is also the first solo rapper to debut on top of the Billboard Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill in 1998.

Nicki Minaj Is A Neighborhood Menace In Her Dollhouse-Themed ‘Super Freaky Girl’ Video

Nicki Minaj really leans into her Barbie doll aesthetic in the video for “Super Freaky Girl,” portraying a plastic version of herself that is something of a neighborhood menace. While all the Ken dolls can’t seem to get enough of Nicki, lavishing her with attention, she instead carelessly lays waste to their picture-perfect cul-de-sac, threatening them with scissors, setting them on fire, and running them over with her hot-pink roadster. Despite her star status, she’s definitely bringing down the property values in this neighborhood.

“Super Freaky Girl” is Nicki’s most successful single in nearly a decade, since “Anaconda” peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in 2014 and was the first rap song by a woman to reach a billion views on YouTube. This time, though, she surpassed her previous peak, landing at No. 1 ahead of her accepting a Video Vanguard Award, hosting, and performing at the 2022 MTV VMAs. Like “Anaconda,” “Super Freaky Girl” samples a hit from the ’80s — Rick James’ “Super Freak,” a hip-hop favorite if ever there was one — but hopefully, she won’t grow to regret the new song as she did “Anaconda.”

Along with videos for “Do We Have A Problem?” with Lil Baby and “We Go Up” with Fivio Foreign, the success of “Super Freaky Girl” suggests that Nicki is gearing up to release her first album since the 2018 album Queen. Stay tuned.
