Megan Thee Stallion Pays Homage To Beyonce & Britney Spears At The MTV VMAs

As host of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, there was a lot on Megan Thee Stallion’s mind last night (Wednesday, September 11). But one thing she certainly didn’t forget about was to pay tribute to iconic VMAs history, current big moments in pop culture, and two superstars who represent these pillars to a tee. The Houston femcee recreated Beyonce’s stunning one-piece outfit in red, white, and blue that she used to introduce Team USA for the 2024 Olympic Games. Then, she replicated Britney Spears’ classic outfit for her 2001 VMAs performance of “I’m A Slave 4 U,” complete with a snake that scared the living daylights out of her. “I tried to hold it down for Britney,” Meg shared.

Of course, we know how much Megan Thee Stallion loves her Houston, Texas sister Beyoncé. “Yall i have been ugly crying with my lace lifting all weekend lol,” she expressed on Instagram, where she posted a video of her performing with Queen Bey at their home city’s RENAISSANCE tour stop. “I will never stop screaming about this moment! I have loved @beyonce MY WHOLE LIFE. This means EVERYTHING TO ME!!! I love you [queen bee emoji] thank you thank you thank you for everything.”

Megan Thee Stallion’s Tributes To Beyonce & Britney Spears

Elsewhere, Megan Thee Stallion hasn’t said much publicly about Britney Spears to our knowledge, but this homage certainly makes that admiration and inspiration clear. Overall, it seemed like she had a great time as host and performer. However, now fans are wondering whether the “NDA” MC is sharing these moments with a special someone, as folks recently spotted her out with Torrey Craig in New York City. New relationship rumors are hot off the presses…

Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion might have even more stuff planned for 2024, as she just released a single with RM titled “Neva Play.” We wonder whether or not 2025 will be as busy of a year for her, although there’s certainly a lot to compete with when you look at the past nine months or so. A full album rollout and momentary Nicki Minaj beef sound absolutely exhausting. But when you don’t have a lot of motivation, inspiration, or energy, you can always count on the OGs to give you that spark again.

Eminem Throws It Back At The VMAs By Recreating Iconic Slim Shady Performance

24 years ago, Eminem brought his massive hit “The Real Slim Shady” to grace the MTV Video Music Awards. He and a whole host of doppelgängers took to the streets and then entered Radio City Music Hall, making their way to the main stage. It’s an iconic moment not just in VMAs history, but also when it comes to the Detroit legend’s performance repertoire. As such, it’s no surprise that his return to the ceremony’s stage (opening the show for the first time since 2010) chose to pay tribute to it. Furthermore, Em donned a blond wig and walked among the audience at the UBS Arena before joining his blond lookalikes and D12’s Mr. Porter onstage, performing “Houdini” and “Somebody Save Me” featuring Jelly Roll.

Of course, this also fits in pretty well with the themes of Eminem’s new album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). On that LP (and its upcoming extended version), he tackles his alter ego and tries to find a balance between his real self and his exaggerated artistic expressions. This is nothing new for Marshall Mathers. But it definitely carries a more overtly and critically nostalgic context compared to something like The Marshall Mathers LP 2 or Music To Be Murdered By.

Eminem’s MTW VMAs Performances, 24 Years Apart

Nevertheless, this VMAs performance and its homage to its 24-year-old predecessor was quite heartening to witness. Eminem actually reflected on the 2000 VMAs in his 2008 book The Way I Am. “‘The Real Slim Shady’ was my biggest hit then, and the 2000 VMAs were a real milestone,” he wrote. “I can’t front, I was nervous about that performance.

“When I saw all those lookalikes walking out of Radio City Music Hall, I was trying to be as cool as I could and keep my composure,” Eminem continued. “But for at least the first 30 seconds of the song I could not shake my nerves off. I watched a DVD of that night recently, and I can see how tense I was. That was one of those moments when I was thinking, ‘Hey, I think I’ve made it in rap. I’m a big-time rapper, rapping big-time!’”

“Complex” Raises Eyebrows With List Of Top 20 Rappers In Their 20s

Today, Complex unveiled yet another list, which has managed to spark yet another debate. The list in question is their ranking of the 20 best rappers right now who are in their 20s. Of course, lists like this one are bound to get readers to weigh in with their own personal takes. This list in particular, however, has earned the outlet a great deal of backlash.

Topping the list is Playboi Carti, whose reception tends to be mixed. While some commenters think this choice makes sense considering his influence and fanbase, others think he’s ranked far too high. Next up is Doja Cat, whose position doesn’t appear to be too widely protested. No. 3 is one of the most controversial choices yet, however, as the outlet went with Central Cee.

Complex Calls Playboi Carti The Best Rapper In Their 20s

From there, it goes Megan Thee Stallion, Yeat, Latto, GloRilla, Lil Yachty, and so on. Needless to say, commenters are sounding off about the list in NFR Podcast‘s replies, making it clear that they’re not rocking with it. “#1 being carti makes sense considering he’s running the game rn while barely dropping rest of this list is insane to say the least lmao,” one X user writes. “Throw the whole damn list away,” another says. This is far from the first time Complex has received backlash for one of their lists, however.

Last month, the outlet unveiled its list of the best rappers from Atlanta, which had social media users up in arms. JID’s exclusion from the top 25, Latto’s ranking as the top female rapper from the city, and more sparked some heated debates among readers. What do you think of Complex‘s list of the top 20 rappers in their 20s? Do you agree with their lineup or not? What would you change about the list? Harvey Weinstein Indicted On New Criminal Charges Ahead Of Sexual Assault Retrial

Harvey Weinstein might be facing a retrial in New York following an overturned 2020 sexual assault conviction, but it’s not all good news for him these days. Moreover, he also faces new criminal charges thanks to a recently issued indictment from prosecutors representing new accusers. Manhattan attorneys divulged in a hearing on Thursday that a grand jury sent more charges up. It seems like the specific nature of these will stay secret until authorities arraign Weinstein after he leaves the hospital. These potential criminal complaints apparently stem from 2005, 2006, and 2013, per TMZ‘s report. According to their alleged sources, prosecutors from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office asked a grand jury to convene and requested that the disgraced film and media executive testify.

Harvey Weinstein reportedly refused to issue a testimony on his own behalf during this hearing. This decision, from what this report suggests, is because prosecutors did not budge on revealing the identity of his new accusers. Per Manhattan’s D.A.’s office, these women brought their cases forward after his 2020 sexual assault conviction (his first). For those unaware, an appeals court overturned this ruling in April after concluding that they found the court liable for violating Weinstein’s constitutional rights.

Furthermore, prosecutors’ next attempt at holding Harvey Weinstein accountable will tentatively take place during November’s retrial. As always, these court dates are subject to change. Ahead of this controversial procedure, his attorneys have reportedly expressed determination and eagerness to supposedly prove his alleged innocence. On the other hand, prosecutors likely want to try that much harder in their attempts to prove Weinstein’s alleged crimes. But this also becomes much more complicated when you take into consideration his health issues.

One of the ways in which Harvey Weinstein’s health has impacted these procedures is actually alleged in this report. For example, he apparently did not go to court as scheduled today due to an emergency heart surgery that officials rushed him to this week at Bellevue Hospital. Reportedly, Weinstein’s attorney Arthur Aidala claimed that he almost passed away from this scare. We’ll see if anything else important comes up for this retrial.

Cam’ron & Mase Have A Wild Theory About Shannon Sharpe’s Instagram Sex Scandal

If you haven’t heard what happened with Shannon Sharpe and you’d rather keep your innocent energies intact for today… Maybe you should stop reading here. But for the rest of the world, the Internet is going wild with memes, jokes, reactions, and questions concerning Shannon Sharpe’s recent Instagram Live. He had apparently never gone Live before and accidentally did so while he was sharing an intimate moment with a partner. Moreover, Cam’ron and Mase (and guest Michael Irvin) discussed this bizarre moment on their sports talk show It Is What It Is, and they have a staggering theory as to why this is the new hot topic of discussion. Well… Cam discussed it, since he had to update a puzzled Mase on what was going on

Cam’ron posited that Shannon Sharpe went live during intercourse on purpose, something that he denies outright. He suggested that it was because the former football star hadn’t gone viral in a while, and also theorized that you need to press way too many buttons to go on IG Live for this to be a mistake. For what it’s worth, Sharpe first characterized this leak as a hack by taking to his Instagram Story. Later on, during a new episode of the Night Cap podcast with Ochocinco, he issued a formal apology and explained that it was an accident on his behalf.

It Is What It Is Discusses The Shannon Sharpe Situation

Elsewhere, Cam’ron just kept clowning the situation itself, whether it was the loudness of the vocals in the leaked clip or how much he bragged in his apology video. Irvin didn’t really say much on the matter, but he did call it very interesting. Mase, on the other hand, had some funny reactions and first-time observations about the whole thing. Needless to say, Shannon Sharpe is probably quite embarrassed about everything, but also likely amused by all the reactions and discussions.

Meanwhile, this comes as ESPN has decided what will happen to Shannon Sharpe as a result. Do you think this was a fair outcome or that something else should’ve been the answer? Either way, Club Shay Shay has jokes for months now. Pretty much every future guest will probably tease him over it, and we’re sure that he will tease them back.

Childish Gambino Promises Fans “Best Live Show” They’ve Ever Seen Or Their Money Back

Last month, Childish Gambino kicked off a tour in support of his last album under his moniker, Bando Stone and The New World. It was initially expected to wrap up in October of this year, but it’s since seen some delays. Earlier this week, the performer took to Twitter/X to announce that he’d be postponing the remainder of the tour.

“Hey everyone. unfortunately i have to postpone the rest of the north american tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks. hold onto your tickets. This means that fans will have to wait a bit longer to see him in select cities. According to him, however, it’ll be well worth the wait. During a recent interview with Wall Street Journal, he even promised ticket buyers their money back if they’re not satisfied with the show. According to him, he realizes that tickets are pricey, and doesn’t take his fans’ support for granted. “I do not take it lightly that people spend hundreds of dollars to see me. I know that’s a lot of money, especially now, when everyone’s broke, everything’s too expensive. If this isn’t the best live show you’ve ever seen, after the first song you can literally leave and get your money back,” he told the outlet.

What do you think of Childish Gambino offering a money-back guarantee for his “New World” tour? What about him postponing the remainder of his North American performances so he can focus on his physical health? Charlamagne Tha God Has A Meesage For Kendrick Lamar

The hip-hop world is ablaze today thanks to Kendrick Lamar’s new song, with every corner of the culture chiming in either with a dismissive “No thanks” or enthusiastic breakdowns. Many folks wonder whether this is a Drake diss, an album rollout kickoff, or something else entirely. But the main point of discussion for many in the rap game is all the criticism that K.Dot has for the culture: the media industries, the consumers, the influencers, etc. Well, The Breakfast Club discussed this new untitled track, which is going by many names in the discourse right now. Charlamagne Tha God’s take was particularly interesting because of its assessment of Kendrick’s goals.

“It’s very dope,” Charlamagne Tha God said of Kendrick Lamar’s new song. “Like you said, Lauren, I don’t believe the record is just about Drake. I think he’s talking about just the culture. People in the world, society, the industry, media. And I’ma tell you something, Kendrick: you gon’ drive yourself crazy, okay? The only thing you can do is continue to be the change you want to see in the world. ‘Cause this ain’t stopping no time soon. It’s just not. You know what I mean? *laughs* We’re too far gone. Like, God himself would have to come back, and even then, they would not believe it! *laughs* Even then, man, Wu-Tang’s ‘Triumph’ could start playing and a big toe could come from the sky and Jesus himself could come down, and they would make him have to prove himself. ‘That ain’t walking on water, that’s A.I.’”

Charlamagne Tha God Speaks On Kendrick Lamar’s New Song

Of course, this is a pretty common sentiment online, at least for those that agree with Kendrick Lamar’s thoughts on the culture. Many see the fight for hip-hop’s “soul” as a losing battle, much like what Charlamagne Tha God expressed. But there are hundreds of turns of phrases we could use here to symbolize that change doesn’t happen overnight. It’s clear that there’s still a lot more left in this saga that will inform this move.

Meanwhile, a lot of folks wonder what Kendrick Lamar’s next move will be. While this seems like a pretty surefire album rollout, we also can’t really predict anything when it comes to him. With that in mind, we’ll just have to be patient and stay on our toes.

DJ Akademiks Says He’s “100% Sure” Young Thug Will Be Found Guilty

Last month, republican Fulton County D.A. candidate Courtney Kramer took to Twitter/X to announce that she’d free Young Thug if she got elected. The rapper has been locked up for over two years on RICO charges and is currently in the middle of a high-profile trial. While her promise certainly got a lot of attention online, many don’t believe she stands a chance against current D.A. Fani Willis.

This includes DJ Akademiks, who weighed in during a recent interview with VladTV. According to him, most voters think that Willis is doing a good job of reducing local crime rates, and want to see her reelected. Moreover, he believes that Young Thug will ultimately be found guilty.

DJ Akademiks Discusses Young Thug’s Ongoing RICO Trial

“As far as the trial, sh*t show,” he explained. “What’s most likely gonna happen, I 100% do believe that he’s gonna be found guilty. They’re throwing everything and the kitchen sink… So much taxpayer money has gone into it, they don’t want to do a mistrial at this point. I think it’s gonna be guilty but I think it’s gonna be overturned on appeal, and I think once it’s overturned on appeal, absolutely not they will not try it again.”

While it remains to be seen whether or not Ak is correct, most can agree with his “sh*t show” remark. Now that Lil Woody is off the stand, the trial has been making fewer headlines than usual, but some moments have stood out. Recently, for example, Young Thug’s lawyer Brian Steel said in court that he sees himself as a civil rights leader. What do you think of DJ Akademiks theorizing that Young Thug will be found guilty in his RICO case? Do you agree with him or not? What about his comments about Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis?
