Laila! & Queen Naija Take The Reins On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

Welcome to autumn, where the influx of new R&B-related tracks isn’t slowing down. Moreover, we’ve got our latest R&B Season playlist update here to round up the best of the best around the genre that came out this week. This time around, we wanted to first shout out the new Laila! album, Gap Year! It’s a 17-track of some really funky and lush bedroom pop mixed with R&B-style vocal melodies, infectious basslines, airy deliveries, and a lot of fun-loving charisma. As one of the rising stars within the game this year, she’s displaying her versatile talents even more here thanks to excellent cuts such as “Want 2.”

On a more classic R&B tip, we have the new Queen Naija single “Good Girls Finish Last.” It’s another example of acoustic guitar balladry, but the earthy percussion pattern does a lot to separate it from the more sad and down-trodden style associated with that archetype. Some harmonious backing vocals and a tight lovelorn narrative also help to center this track into more of its own identity. If you’re looking for some tender jams this week to soothe you, then this should be right up your alley.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist: Stream

Another project we wanted to highlight on this R&B Season update is RINI’s new seven-tracker, Lucky 7. Its sonic character is mostly built around dreamy guitar tones, softly buzzing bass, crips drums, and an overall atmospheric approach to indie and R&B fusions. One particular standout is “Far Away,” whose chime embellishments and measured vocal approach closes the project out quite well. But don’t let that fool you: the rest is just as worth it.

Finally, we’d be remiss not to mention the genre-fusing full-length from Fred again.., ten days. While not all of it takes influence from R&B, as it’s mostly an electronic experience, “fear less” with Sampha is among its most interesting and well-developed experiments. Tyrese Claims That He Could Be Arrested Soon Over Ongoing Divorce & Child Support Drama

Tyrese Gibson dropped another bombshell claim about his ongoing divorce with Samantha Lee on his Instagram on Sunday (September 8). Moreover, he fears that authorities will arrest him in Atlanta court tomorrow due to Lee’s lawyers allegedly being allies of the judge in the case, Kevin M. Farmer. The judge apparently demanded that the actor and singer cancel his press run for his movie and album, and Gibson said that they will appeal all the rulings after trying multiple times to assure Farmer’s recusal. Also, he claims that the judge illegally cracked his prenup agreement to increase one of his child support payments.

As you can see in the IG post below, this is all a very complicated and contentious situation, one that Tyrese has been very open and emotional in speaking on. His recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, for example, was a tough moment for him. It didn’t help that Joe Budden and others online called this appearance “bitter” and felt like the Los Angeles native was doing too much. Gibson actually called Budden out on social media, stating that he can’t relate to how he actually feels because he’s never been married.

Tyrese Fears That He Will Be Arrested In Court

Another point of contention for Tyrese was how there are co-hosts on Joe Budden’s podcast that are more loyal and respectful to him than the Slaughterhouse MC himself, despite their long bond. This all arrived at a very difficult time, because Gibson had planned a social media break. As we see now, this clearly didn’t last long. Considering all that’s going on right now, we don’t even know if this is a possible avenue anymore. Nevertheless, all we can hope for is that he prioritizes real-life fulfillment, peace, and satisfaction rather than ignoring that to seek online validation.

Meanwhile, on a lighter note, Tyrese discussed an interesting question with Shannon Sharpe during their Club Shay Shay conversation. “Who’s a bigger rapper globally? Most famous of the two. Jay-Z or Snoop Dogg?” he inquired. “If Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg were in a mall in Moscow, who would shut the mall down? [Snoop Dogg is the] biggest f***ing superstar in the world. That’s my big homie. Kendrick Lamar finally popped out again after his Drake battle to announce that he’s hitting up an even bigger stage next year. The hip-hop world is very excited to see what he does for his Super Bowl LIX halftime show in New Orleans on February 9, and if not, they’re morbidly curious. Moreover, Jay-Z issued a statement as the NFL’s entertainment curator, contributing to the many Drizzy fans angry at him for allowing this to happen. Jokes aside, let’s not forget the reason why the sports league brought Hov into the fold in the first place, and how many issues of social justice and the treatment of the Black community in the league are still prevalent and unaddressed.

“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” Jay-Z said of the battle victor who wants “no Round 2s” with Drake. “His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.” Here’s Kendrick’s own brief statement on the matter: “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. While this is all incredibly exciting, even the biggest Kendrick Lamar Stans on the planet have their reservations about this. As mentioned before, the shadow of the NFL looms large, especially considering that Kendrick omitted his line about police when he performed “Alright” at the 2022 halftime show. Also, many fans think that Lil Wayne was more deserving of this spot since he’s actually from New Orleans. Even his longtime engineer and producer seemed to speak out against the NFL’s decision.

Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see what happens with Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show. It’s going to be a massive moment and will surely be an impressive and compelling affair despite these qualms and debates. Elsewhere, other fans are hoping that his good friend is correct in previewing a possible collaboration with Playboi Carti. So many hip-hop fans are excited for Kendrick Lamar’s recently announced Super Bowl LIX halftime show in New Orleans on February 9, 2025. However, even some of his strongest supporters admit that Jay-Z and the NFL missed out on a massive and more well-deserved opportunity to bring Lil Wayne to the massive stage. Whether it was Young Money goons or people who are typically Drake/Weezy haters, a lot of people discussed this move and made their case for the Cash Money icon. Not only that, but Tunechi’s engineer and producer Fabian Marasciullo took to his Instagram Story on Sunday (September 8) to seemingly react to Kendrick’s announcement.

“Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all. Inspired,” he wrote on IG, which led many to assume that he was talking about the NFL picking Kendrick Lamar instead of Lil Wayne. “Will never again be in a position or have the [goat emoji] in a position where we are at the mercy of someone elses decision. We will make the decisions.” Of course, another element to consider is Wayne’s loyalty to Drake in regards to the Kendrick battle, plus the fact that the Compton lyricist mocked his Toronto rival’s teases toward a “Game 2.”

But maybe this conversation would all become moot if the pgLang creative brings Weezy out in February. It’s very unlikely when you consider Young Money’s family ties, but Kendrick sticking up for Wayne on “Not Like Us” indicates that he still has a lot of love for him.
