“10 MILL BOND, 1.5 MILL CASH BAIL WAS THE TICKET BAIL PAID SAME DAY ARE YOU DUMB, SHEFF G BACK NEW YORK. WE F***ING LITTTTT THEY COUNTED ME OUT!! THEY THOUGHT I WAS DONE , PEACE AND LOVE TO YALL LOL.” That is the energy that Sheff G is on across his new album, Proud Of Myself. If you remember, the New York drill rapper and songwriter was dealing with a gun possession case and multiple gang allegations. But that wasn’t going to keep him down for long. It’s a big day for Sheff G, as Proud Of Myself is a bit of a victory lap.
Themes of self-growth, success, and resiliency are peppered throughout the 15-song offering, his first since 2022’s From The Can. This project arrives at another opportune time for Sheff G, because pretty soon, a close friend of his is going to drop a LP in about two weeks. Sleepy Hallow is going to drop his project on December 6, perhaps as a continuation of this celebration of freedom. These two albums have a close relation to one another also because of the rollout. Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow were putting out singles together on two-packs. Overall, their brotherhood is real and it’s proving to be even more so over these next couple of weeks.
Prolific Dipset rapper Jim Jones is going to be wrapping up 2024 with a new album. It’s looking like it’s going to be a movie because him and Fivio Foreign are here with “Cinema.” The lead single also features Dyce Payso and Keen Streetz. There’s no true confirmation if this going to be a collab tape with the New York drill stalwart, but it’s sure being billed that way to some extent. Jim Jones shared a post to his Instagram announcing At The Church Steps, saying, “First single off my up comin album “At Th Church Steps.” “Cinema” ft @fivioforeign_8fs @dyce_payso @keenstreetz_ Let the 4th quarter begin. Album loading.”
Fivio was in the comments of that unveiling, hyping up the track as well as the album. “Oh yea it’s movie time ” Again, this is all speculation. But given that this track is a mixture of New York drill and some Jersey club, we wouldn’t be shocked if this was a Jones and Foreign tape. Everyone does a great job matching each other’s energy, which is through the roof by the way. The track creatively flips Future’s hit “March Madness” by pitching down the watery keys and slowing them down. There are also some dirty guitar riffs that add some extra character and grit to the club beat. Overall, Jim Jones has a winner with “Cinema” and hopefully the rest of the album will be one too. Right now, we don’t have any further information on At The Church Steps, but we will keep you all up to date when we find out something new. For now, stream “Cinema” below.
On his It Is What It Is sports talk show with Mase, Cam’ron recently claimed that he turned down an offer from New York City Mayor Eric Adams to receive the key to the city. This was apparently before Adams received a federal indictment over corruption-related charges, for which he pleaded not guilty. However, it was also after the mayor gave the key to Diddy in September 2023. You probably recall that the Bad Boy mogul returned the key in May of this year after his various sexual assault allegations poured in (plus the Cassie assault video), leading up to his current federal indictment.
As for how Cam’ron revealed this, he remarked on the matter after Mase threw some shots at his ex higher-up Diddy, which led Cam to bring up Eric Adams’ situation. “You know what’s crazy?” he asked. “This is word to everything I love. Last month, they called me to see if I wanted the key to the city. I said, ‘I don’t want to be involved with nothing.’ I said, ‘That ain’t really up my alley right now, I’m cool with the key to New York City, man.’”
Then, Cam’ron claimed that Eric Adams’ office were the ones to call him. “I don’t want nothing that has to do with the keys to the city, the n***as giving them out, or the n***as that previously had them,” he shared. “I don’t got nothing to do with the key to the city, I don’t got nothing to do with that.” Elsewhere, Killa Cam is actually gearing up for a new show Talk With Flee. In a trailer for it, he spoke on his relationship with Jay-Z, the Dipset versus The LOX Verzuz, and a whole lot more.
Meanwhile, we all know that It Is What It Is can turn into a roast fest more than a reflection on current events. For example, Cam’ron recently called Shannon Sharpe out for seemingly prioritizing advice from white men concerning his recent IG Live sex scandal. Cam and Mase felt like he insinuated that other Black commentators who criticized Sharpe are beneath him, so we can expect their animosity to develop further.
The New York City Department of Social Services (NYCDSS) has called out Jay-Z in a federal court filing, accusing him of making “false” claims that have “poisoned” the upcoming auction of Damon Dash’s one-third share of Roc-A-Fella Records, which Dash planned to pay his substantial debts, including unpaid child support to two women.
In 1994, Roc-A-Fella Records was founded by Jay-Z, Damon Dash, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke. With an $823,000 judgment against him in federal court and $ 145,096 in unpaid child support, and an unpaid New York state tax bill of $8.7 million, Dash recently announced that he would auction off his one-third share in Roc-A-Fella. Although the auction is being held as part of the federal court proceeding, NYCDSS has priority to recover the unpaid child support amounts. Roc-A-Fella’s primary asset is Jay-Z’s album “Reasonable Doubt,” other entities now own the rest of the music initially released by Roc-A-Fella and not part of this dispute.
Jay-Z and Burke previously sought to derail the auction by intervening in the federal lawsuit and attempting to block the auction by arguing that changes to Roc-A-Fella Inc.’s bylaws required their approval of any sale. The court rejected their arguments, ruling that the changes to the bylaws were unenforceable because they had been made without Dash’s input and suggesting that Jay-Z and Burke participate in the auction and place their own bid.
Thereafter, Jay-Z made public statements claiming that he personally has a “termination right” under copyright law to take back ownership of the copyright in the album in seven years, so any purchaser’s rights would be strictly limited to that period.
On September 20, counsel for NYCDSS filed a motion in the federal court proceeding, writing that:
The motion further characterized Jay-Z’s statements as “false and extremely damaging to the City’s interests in ensuring that the auction will generate sufficient funds to satisfy all existing child support arrearages and secure future child support payments.” NYCDSS attached to its motion a copy of Jay-Z’s 1995 recording agreement, pointing to language that it claims to expressly contradict his claim of a “termination right” under copyright law.
NYCDSS’s motion seeks a court order staying the auction until the Court issues a ruling on whether Jay-Z possesses any termination right and ordering Roc-A-Fella to provide royalty records for the “Reasonable Doubt” album and to produce a witness for a deposition. The City of New York appears to have had enough of Jay-Z’s campaign to devalue Dash’s share of Roc-A-Fella before the auction, at the expense of all those to whom Dash owes money, including the mothers of his children, the plaintiff in the federal lawsuit, and the beneficiaries of Dash’s many millions owed in tax revenues.
Foxy Brown is a legend of the hip-hop world and throughout her career, she has certainly seen a lot go down. Overall, one of the biggest stories in hip-hop this year has involved rap mogul, Diddy. Diddy and Foxy Brown worked together, and she certainly has her own experiences with him. In fact, she came under fire last year when she defended the mogul following the various allegations that came out about him. Now, however, she is simply reacting to the newest development in the story.
As we reported last night, Diddy was arrested in New York City. This morning, an indictment is reportedly expected to come through. However, for now, the details of the arrest are still very sparse. The mogul’s lawyer has put out a statement, noting that they are disappointed with the recent developments. As for Foxy Brown, she took to her Instagram story with two wide-eyed surprised-face emojis. While she didn’t attach any real words to this, it seems quite obvious what she is talking about here.
Diddy had his homes in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami raided back in March of this year. Since that time, a Grand Jury in New York has been hearing evidence with the goal of deciding on whether or not an indictment is necessary. This morning, we will likely get an answer and some much-needed clarity. If one thing is for certain, it is that the entire hip-hop world is paying attention right now.
Let us know what you think of the Diddy situation, in the comments section down below. Were you surprised to hear about his arrest? Do you believe that there will be an indictment this morning? Be sure to stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects. In particular, we will keep on following the Diddy story, which has taken hip-hop by storm in 2024.
Overall, Jay Critch comes across as one of those MCs who stays to himself for the most part. He’s rarely causing drama in the public eye and seems pretty humble. Unfortunately, the Brooklyn veteran has occasionally gotten tangled up in some street fights here and there. It’s nothing that’s too out of the ordinary in general, but for some reason that’s what seems to be a reoccurring thing here and there. For example, around this time two years ago, Critch went viral for getting into it outside of a New Jersey nightclub alongside some of his boys.
Ironically, the Humble Giant is making headlines for the same reason again as video footage below shows. It isn’t much, as the clip is only five seconds. But it appears that Critch was jumped in the streets of New York as an assailant hits him in the face with what is said to be his shoes. Like the NJ debacle, there isn’t any word on how things unraveled. But unlike last time, we have some physical evidence of Critch and one of his alleged “6” attackers jawing at each other after the fight online.
“I popped on U first 1 vs 6 and left chains. U Lost”, the MC says to the user dottydot_ on IG. He then replies, “@jaycritch I beat you out ua sneakers before they even got there, and I let you have ya chain”, he began. “I took it off ya neck…. You thought it was lit when you backed out that camera dummy”. Later, to try and put away any doubts that Critch wasn’t telling truth, he added on his IG Story, “End of story!”, with his aforementioned quote above. Maybe this time we will learn the cause of this brief and viral clip.
What are your thoughts on Jay Critch getting jumped and punched in the face in New York? What do you think escalated this brawl? Whose side do you believe more in this debate? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Jay Critch. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.
Joey Badass says he isn’t a fan of Cardi B’s breakthrough single, “Bodak Yellow,” despite having nothing but love for his fellow New York rapper. Speaking with Method Man in an interview for Billboard, Joey explained that the track shouldn’t be labeled a “New York” anthem, considering the flow is from Florida’s Kodak Black.
“This is my disclaimer with ‘Bodak Yellow.’ First of all, I love Cardi B … But, for me, ‘Bodak Yellow,’ is literally a Kodak Black flow,” he argued. “Like, it’s a Florida flow, you know what I’m saying? … We having a conversation about New York anthems. While, okay, yes, I think that it definitely was an anthemic record for beyond New York, I think that it just has this DNA of not a New York song. Let’s be real about it. If Kodak Black didn’t exist we would have never have gotten ‘Bodak Yellow.’”
Joey Badass Attends “Power Book II: Ghost” Season 4 Premiere
Cardi released “Bodak Yellow” back in 2017, interpolating Kodak Black’s iconic track, “No Flockin.” In doing so, she gave Kodak a credit on the song. It blew up and became the lead single from her debut studio album Invasion of Privacy. It also went on to earn Cardi nominations for both Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the 60th Grammy Awards.
Joey Badass Speaks On “Bodak Yellow”
Other songs Joey and Method Man discussed from New York included “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See” by Busta Rhymes, “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” by JAY-Z, “N.Y. State of Mind” by Nas, “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” by DMX, and more. Check out Joey’s comments on Cardi B with Method Man below. Be on the lookout for further updates on Joey Badass on HotNewHipHop.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams honored Fat Joe in his hometown on Tuesday night by presenting him with a key to the city. All his legendary — his music, a real brother, authentic — we want to give you this key,” he said.

38 Spesh, Rochester, New York rapper and producer, is always going to be active year in and year out. You can pencil him in for at least 2-3 projects every 12 months, and sometimes even more. With him dropping Mother & Gun, 38 Spesh is already over that quota, and there’s still about three and half months to go. This new 10-track offering follows up a trio of collaborative efforts that saw the veteran go behind the boards for. The most recent of them was Grafh’s God’s Timing, which dropped back on July 26. The other two works that Spesh has been involved in include The Musalini’s In God We Trust and Rasheed Chappell’s Checks & Balances.
Besides this being his first solo album of the year, 38 Spesh is also making this release a big deal content matter wise. When he announced Mother & Gun back over a week ago via social media, he mentioned how this record has lots of emotional weight. “Im dropping my album next Friday 8/16 and it’s called “Mother&Gun”. This is the most intimate and personal project I ever made. I can’t wait until yall hear it.” You’ll be able to feel that right away on the opener “Early Morning”. In some of the first few lines, Spesh mentions how this is a tribute to his late mother. Overall, the project also delves into resiliency, his past, and other personal anecdotes. See what all the hype is about with the links below.
