TOBi Comes Back After Three Years With New Album “PANIC”

Nigerian-born and Canada-raised, TOBi, is back with a brand new tape for his listeners. They have been clamoring for it and for good reason. It has been three years since the last full-length release from him. That last album was ELEMENTS Vol.1 and before that was his debut in 2019 with STILL. TOBi specializes in the hip-hop, rap, R&B, and soul genres. He does it all with a silky smooth voice on the mic. The anticipation for this latest tape, PANIC, began all the way back in September of last year.

The lead single was actually a song for the Netflix film, Do Revenge. It starred Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes and the movie and track came out on the same day. Following that, we would get seven more singles, so eight in total. Unfortunately, while the songs are well produced and performed with lots of charisma, the hype slowly trailed with nearly the entire album being put out little by little.

It is still a solid effort from TOBi, but there are only four new songs. Those are “Get Yours,” “Time Out,” “Protect You,” and “How Much Longer?” Fans should still enjoy this project given how diverse the sounds are and the messages in the songs. Pewee Longway Returns With New Album “Who Am I?”

One of the OGs of trap rap is Pewee Longway. Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia he familiarized himself with all of the legends of his time and now he continues to carry the subgenre forward. Of course, he has learned so much from his mentor Gucci Mane, who is undoubtedly one of those founding fathers. Pewee famously signed with Guwop’s 1017 label right before he went to prison.

He released many mixtapes and other projects throughout that time. While he is not making a lot of noise in the headlines as of late, that does not mean people are not eager to hear more music. It has been a year since the release of his last album, Live a Lil. On top of that, Peewee’s first solo single did not come until late August.

MIKE Drops Massive 24-Track Project “Burning Desire”

Abstract New York rapper MIKE is easily having one of the best years out of anyone right now. While some of our readers might not know who he is, MIKE has been dominant in the underground scene. He has landed on numerous projects of similar artists in his lane. One of which was the highly-anticipated release of Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist’s collaborative effort, VOIR DIRE.

However, his greatest moment, at least right now from critics and HNHH alike is his recent effort with The Alchemist. Cali and NY came together for an Album of the Year contender with Faith Is A Rock. It came out just a couple of weeks ago and he and his rapping partner, Wiki, were the perfect complements to the sonic backdrops. Now, MIKE might be competing with himself at this point with his album, Burning Desire.

DaBaby Drops Brand New Three Pack “LET’S DO IT”

DaBaby’s output in 2023 has been steady, however, there is no full project from him this year. It all started back on January 26 with the release of “JOC IN ’06.” Following that, we got a little three-pack, CALL DA FIREMAN. It was an appropriate title seeing as DaBaby was bringing plenty of heat to the table with tracks like “SHAKE SUMN.” It got even hotter when Sexyy Red joined in on the remix. Finally, on September 29, we got one more solo single, “TRICKIN’.” But, DaBaby was not satisfied with only releasing music on streaming platforms.

Over the course of just a few days, the rapper put his freestyle skills through the ringer. DaBaby tested his abilities to rap over four different beats. The first one saw him murder the “Peaches & Eggplants” beat. He slayed Ice Spice’s “Deli” next. Finally, he flexed his muscles on Gunna’s smash hit “fukumean” and Burna Boy’s “Sittin’ On Top Of The World.”

Now, DaBaby is here with another set of high-energy cuts with his second three-pack, LET’S DO IT. All three are solo tracks and the titles are “CRASH THE JEEP,” “NO FINSTA,” and “D!CK.” He teased this on his Instagram about six days ago in quick video of him working out. DaBaby captioned the post, “From da plane to da PAINT! ✈🌍🏋🏿‍♂️ #CRASHTHEJEEP 💨” Then, he let the cat out of the bag by posting the cover art and title about a day ago. He pays it forward to local North Carolina producers having them craft beats for every song. This “S*** HIT LIKE STARBUCKS IN THE MORNING & I HATE COFFEE ☕☕☕” We agree DaBaby, we agree.

Peezy Enlists Ty Dolla $ign, Larry June, BabyTron, And More For New Album “GHETTO”

Peezy’s strong year continues with the release of his brand new album, GHETTO. It is the Detroit MC’s 22nd (!) project to date, showing how quick and hard-working he is to get material out to his fans. This fast turnaround is nothing new for Peezy, considering he dropped five tapes in 2017. For 2023, the rapper already has two other LPs out now.

The first of them was a collaborative effort with Baltimore rapper Yg Teck on February 17. That was a 15-track album. The second was a shorter effort, standing at just eight cuts. Interestingly though, it is also called GHETTO, which was put out on April 21. This newer GHETTO is more of a full-fleshed-out set of songs. None of them from the one back in April appear in this October edition.

Omar Apollo Drops A Heavenly EP With “Live For Me”

If you are looking to get into artists like Daniel Caesar, SZA, Kali Uchis, and others, you have to check out Omar Apollo. While he does not have the mass appeal of those aforementioned singers, he has a stunning voice. On top of that, he possesses a great ear for production. Combine both of those qualities and you have yourself a terrific do-it-all musician. Omar is finally back after a year-long bridge between his last project. That would happen to be his album, Ivory. He tapped, you guessed it, Daniel Caesar and Kali Uchis as his only two guests.

Ironically, though, Apollo was not really inspired by these artists. He drew from a wide pool including names like Prince, Alicia Keys, and Sly And The Family Stone. Omar’s name has been blowing up recently, too. He opened for SZA during her SOS Tour and appeared on the latest Caesar project, NEVER ENOUGH. Based on all of the names we listed, he pulls from plenty of sounds to make him sound unique. The Indiana-born singer dabbles in genres of alternative R&B, pop, soul, bedroom pop, and more.

Listen To Live For Me From Omar Apollo

On this latest EP, Live For Me, Apollo goes into his bedroom pop and alternative R&B side. It is a tight four tracks and runs just under 16 minutes. What is even better is that all of the songs here are terrific and sound different. He utilizes a touch of autotune on some of the vocals as well. This a easy-breezy listen that will have you in your feels and floating at the same time.

Recently, Roddy Ricch took to social media to flex the impressive amount of work he got done in the studio in only one night. The performer shared a screenshot of various recordings on his phone, revealing that he managed to squeeze 10 recordings in during one session. “10 in 1 night,” he wrote. “Catching a tempo…”

The revelation has left social media users split. Some fans are looking forward to the rapper’s new music, while others urge him to focus on quality over quantity. The performer previewed one of his new tracks on Instagram Live back in July, but as the snippet played, around half of his viewers left the stream. This resulted in some clowning for the Compton-born rapper, but clearly he hasn’t let it discourage him too much.

Roddy Ricch Recorded 10 Songs In One Night

Though things may be looking up for Roddy Ricch in terms of his musical career, things in his personal life have gotten rough recent months. The mother of the rapper’s three-year-old, Alexandra Kiser, filed for full custody of the child earlier this year. Her petition cited some concerning alleged behavior from the 24-year-old. She accused him of being addicted to lean, being affiliated with a gang, and more. “Since his birth, I alone, spend 98% of the time with him while Rodrick lives his life without any regard to his parental obligation or responsibility to spend time with Kadence,” her petition states.

Kiser further alleged that Roddy Ricch “prioritizes being high over being a father to their child.” She is seeking over $20K per month in child support payments. Little Brother Releases Two-Track EP “Wish Me Well / Glory Glory”

Durham, North Carolina rap duo, Little Brother, has just made a triumphant return. In fact, it has been four years since the release of any new material. The last time we got music from Phonte and Big Pooh was back on August 20, 2019. It came in the form of an album called, May the Lord Watch. It was a 15-track 37-minute-long project with no features. After that, we have not heard anything from them.

However, the legendary East Coast group is having a little celebration coming up next month. The special occasion is for their debut album which has now been out for two decades. They felt it was only right to throw a block party for one day on October 7. Little Brother announced this back on August 8 on their Instagram. The name if the event is “Made In Durham: A Little Brother Block Party.” Some special guests will also be a part of this full-circle moment, including Big K.R.I.T.

It has been a busy year to say the least for Brooklyn’s own, Ransom. The storied career of this hip-hop artist will go down as one that is iconic but also underappreciated. A true wordsmith and intimidating MC, Ransom has been pumping quality since the late 2000s. Already this year, the prolific rapper has put out two EPs and an album to boot.

The first of which was the LP, Directors Cut 4. It featured artists such as Nicholas Craven, Che Noir, Tali Kweli, and more. Then, after that, only a couple of weeks went by before we were delightedly treated to Ransom’s first EP of the year with Deleted Scenes 2. That was a full collab effort with Nicholas Craven in the booth. The song titles were cleverly named after movie titles of different genres.

Killer Mike’s Deluxe Version Of “MICHAEL” Adds JID, T.I., Jacquees, And Young Nudy

Back on June 16, 2023, one-half of Run The Jewels released their first solo album in over 11 years. That would happen to be the Atlanta, Georgia native Killer Mike. It was a follow-up to his critically acclaimed R.A.P. Music and it delivered on many fronts. For example, Mike gathered a massive list of A-listers to help make a grand return. Some of those names include André 3000, Future, Young Thug, CeeLo Green, Ty Dolla $ign, and a plethora of others.

Mike also laced the stacked tracklists with great writing and storytelling on tracks like “MOTHERLESS” and “SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS.” Finally, the production credits here are more than respectable. DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, André 3000, El-P, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., James Blake, and more assisted in the diversity of sounds. It was a tour de force for Killer Mike and he just added some more heat to the record.
