Eminem Teases New Album With Slim Shady Newspaper Obituary

Slim Shady will return. Well, technically. Eminem is gearing up for the release of his album The Death of Slim Shady, which will be the final chapter in his alter ego’s storyline. The catch is, like the title suggests, Slim is dead. The teaser that announced the album was structured like an old procedural show, in which witnesses reflect on what went wrong. It’s too early to tell how meta the lyrical content of the album will be, but the promo has definitely been consistent. Em has even posted an obituary in the newspaper.

“Slim Shady made lasting impression” read the Detroit Free press headline. The piece treats Slim like a real person, despite the comically exaggerated photo of him wearing a hockey mask above the headline. It does, however, address some of the satirical elements that Eminem has played with whenever he used the Shady moniker. “[His] audience was soon exposed to the extreme darkness of the muse/rapper,” the write posited. “As he led millions of music fans down a road glorified a demonstrably nihilistic worldview.” Slim’s background is common knowledge. It’s the revelatory details about his death, however, that make the piece fun to parse through.

Eminem Continues To Mourn His Alter Ego’s Death

The obituary notes that Slim Shady’s path was always going to come to a tragic end. “His complex and tortured existence has come to a close,” the writer posited. “And the legacy he leaves behind is no closer to resolution than the manner in which the character departed this world. May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that he could not find on Earth.” This is all consistent with the way that Eminem has talked about the Slim Shady persona over the years.

During a 1999 interview with Video Music Box, the rapper revealed that Slim Shady allowed him to free up his creative impulses without having to worry about whether they went too far. “Everybody’s got two sides to them,” he posited. “Slim Shady’s just an angry side for me to vent. Eminem is just me. When I sit down with a pen, sometimes I write Eminem rhymes, sometimes I write Slim Shady rhymes. It depends on what type of mood I’m in that day.” Two and a half decades later, it seems like the rapper is finally ready to let go of the Slim Shady safety net.

Childish Gambino Finally Completes “Atavista,” A Journey 4 Years In The Making

Childish Gambino, one of the most creative and unpredictable artists we have in modern hip-hop, has made a long-awaited return. Even after dropping 3.15.20 back in March of 2020, the California multi-hyphenate showed that he was far from done with it. Now, Childish Gambino is ready to show what he has been working on for these last four years with Atavista.

But now that it is finally here, Gambino has been blowing up social media with updates about his worldwide tour, as well as future plans for Atavista and other projects. In a recent post on X, he revealed that a “special vinyl [is] coming soon w/ visuals for each song.” Additionally, he let the cat out of the bag that “the all new childish gambino album comes out in the summer.”

Gunna Is Living Life Freely On “Hakuna Matata”

Gunna is refocused and all about being a better him on his brand-new album One of Wun. The fairly quick follow-up to a Gift & a Curse sees the College Park, Georgia flow master bring along just a few guests on his cruise to happiness. Offset, recent collaborator Normani, Leon Bridges, and Roddy Ricch, all do a solid job breaking some of the more monotonous stretches. However, Gunna still manages to be entertaining on his own, especially on “hakuna matata.”

It is clear that the trap veteran was not aiming for hits on this project. But “hakuna matata” is one of the tracks that comes closest to being easily digestible or one that could land on Spotify playlists. On this cut, Gunna raps about his new outlook moving forward, which is one of no regrets. Of course, Disney die-hards, or anyone who has seen The Lion King, knows this iconic phrase.

Young Wunna on tour, I BP the charter, livin’ hakuna matata (Hakuna matata) / Ain’t no more worries, I’m up at it early, yo’ n**** tryna figure out his problems (Figure out his problems).” Even though the beat on this song is reminiscent of a lot of the other cuts on One of Wun, it still sounds good. Gunna might also provide his strongest performance flow wise and slips and slides across the lowkey instrumental.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song “hakuna matata” by Gunna? Is this the best track from his new album One of Wun, why or why not? I put my trust in my faith, when I’m walking through straight, I don’t see no one else (See no one else)

Conway The Machine, Method Man, SK Da King, & Flee Lord Bring Straight Lyricism On “Meth Back!”

Conway the Machine assembled the Avengers for his brand-new album Slant Face Killah (SFK). His fourth studio album, and follow-up to WON’T HE DO IT, was rumored to be the side B of the latter. However, the prolific Buffalo-bred rapper decided to come through with a separate entity and it has been one of the stronger releases of the year. One cut that Conway the Machine provided on this LP that we have been spinning again and again is “Meth Back!”

This one of many tracks that boasts some incredible guest talent. Based on the title, you might have been able to guess that Wu-Tang legend Method Man was a feature. That assumption would be correct, but he is not the only G.O.A.T. joining Conway. Underground vets Flee Lord and SK Da King pop up for one the nastiest old school hip-hop tracks of 2024.

Instrumental alone, this track is incredible. Daringer, fellow Buffalo resident and in-house producer for Griselda, lays down a simple but effective beat. The ghostly woodwind loop on top of the dirty drums is a lethal combination. Then, we you add in everyone’s terrific pen game and intimidating cadence, it is a recipe for straight gas. It is hard to pick who had the best outing, but Meth’s might take the cake for us.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song “Meth Back!” by Conway the Machine, Method Man, SK Da King, and Flee Lord? Where does this track rank amongst the rest on Slant Face Killah (SFK)? Ice Spice Reveals What Inspired Her Upcoming Album “Y2K”

Earlier this week, Ice Spice unveiled her newest track “Gimmie A Light” alongside a smoke-filled accompanying music video. The Sean Paul-sampling single has since garnered mixed reactions from fans. While some think it’s sure to be the song of the summer, others believe that her signature sound needs a revamp. With that being said, there’s much more on the way from the Bronx-born performer, who’s currently in the process of readying her new album Y2K.

Ice Spice has been teasing the project for months now, giving fans a taste of what’s to come with various singles. She’s yet to confirm an official release date. In a recent conversation with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s New Music Daily, she opened up about some of the things that inspired her upcoming debut. According to her, it all goes back to her upbringing.

Ice Spice Says Her Mother’s Aesthetic Is Her Inspiration

“Thankfully, I had my mom, so growing up I’d see her really embody the Y2K aesthetic in its truest form,” she explained. “It’s duck nails, it’s a tramp stamp. It’s brown lip liner no matter where you go. So thankfully I had her as my inspo growing up.” She then went on to discuss how she chose the title of the project, describing how after coming up with countless different ideas, she ultimately opted to keep it short and sweet.

“I have a book full of pages of album names and different ideas, and I just really find the beauty and simplicity,” she said, “I was just like, ‘You know what? I want it to be short, I don’t want it to be this super long phrase.’” What do you think of Ice Spice revealing some of the things that inspired her upcoming album, Y2K? Gunna & Roddy Ricch Are Doing Some Self-Healing On “Let It Breathe”

Ever since Gunna addressed the YSL RICO fiasco on his fourth studio album, a Gift & a Curse, it is clear that he has been doing some self-reflection. That has been evident from the College Park, Georgia rapper and singer working on his physical and mental health. The 30-year-old has posted tons of pictures on his social media platforms and his transformation has been nothing short of incredible. This new mindset that Gunna has is the main theme of his fifth LP One of Wun.

On “let it breathe,” for example, Gunna speaks about how he has been distancing himself from others and sit down with himself. Across the moody piano-backed instrumental, he decides that he is going to fortify his mental strength by hitting the gym and choosing who he surrounds himself with. Joining him on this journey to becoming a new man is Compton’s own Roddy Ricch. To be honest, we do not think there was anyone better to accompany Gunna on this track in particular.

Listen To “Let It Breathe” By Gunna & Roddy Ricch

His style is almost identical and a track with this kind of message comes a great time for Roddy. It seems that the narrative has shifted for him after his impressive debut album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial. Many felt he took a dramatic step back on his following effort LIVE LIFE FAST, and even on Feed Tha Streets III. “Lately, I’ve been slow to speak, still stay out they reach, ” Ricch says on the first line of his verse. That could refer to a lot of things, but it could be seen as he is taking time before making a new project. All in all, “let it breathe” is a strong offering from Gunna and his equally wounded partner.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song “let it breathe” by Gunna and Roddy Ricch? Is this the best track from his new album One of Wun, why or why not? Who had the stronger performance on this cut? Where do you rank this project amongst the rest of his catalog and is it better than the original? Kalan.FrFr Vows To “MAKE THE WEST GREAT AGAIN” On Latest EP

You could argue that the West Coast hip-hop scene has been run by Kendrick Lamar for the better part of a decade. If not, it is undeniable that he has been taking over for the last several weeks. His diss tracks and verses have been playing all throughout the streets of California in particular. “Not Like Us,” his most recent diss and perhaps the Drake kill shot, has sort of become the anthem out West. With that in mind, artists of lower stature, such as Kalan.FrFr, really have to come through with some major heat.

Kalan.FrFr is looking to put on for his hometown, and the state at large, with a new EP called MAKE THE WEST GREAT AGAIN. The 29-year-old multi-hyphenate might not have the fan base of a K-Dot, but he certainly has the backing of a major label (Roc Nation), and the co-signs from plenty of big fish. Giving this new tape that West Coast street cred are fellow veterans YG, Ty Dolla $ign, as well as G Herbo and Spooky Jay. Kalan.FrFr is following up on a December 2023 EP, NOT HARD 2 UNDERSTAND, as well a 2022 LP, 222. Furthermore, leading up to MTWGA, the “Right Wit It” MC dropped one promo track, “EVERYBODY,” which called out all the gangs.

Listen To MAKE THE WEST GREAT AGAIN By Kalan.FrFr

So, how does Kalan.FrFr perform on this new EP? To be quite frank, it comes across as run of the mill West Coast fare. The track that managed to stand out to us was “NO MUNYON NO FUNYON” with G Herbo. The Chicago native brings an animated performance to break up the flow that Kalan brings, which is his trademark smooth flow. Additionally, Spooky Jay, has probably the most unique outing that will definitely grab your attention. But back to Kalan, he sort of recycles that formula across the rest of the tape. On top of that talking about the same topics (flexing and being around women), it gets even more redundant. The beats are passable and non-offensive, which is fine, but it just does not move the needle. Still, give the tape a chance with the links above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP MAKE THE WEST GREAT AGAIN by Kalan.FrFr? What tracks have you been gravitating toward? Who had the strongest guest performance? Where do you rank this project amongst the rest of his discography? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Kalan.FrFr. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

  1. BAD B**** ON SEEN
  2. CAN’T GET IN (JEALOUS)
  3. EVERYBODY
  4. COOL DOWN (feat. YG)
  5. SILHOUETTE (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)
  6. ANDFUK
  7. NO MUNYON NO FUNYON (feat. G Herbo)
  8. KEEP GOING (feat. Spooky Jay)

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony Tease Reunion For 30th Anniversary

The pride and joy of Cleveland hip-hop is back. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, the iconic 1990s group, is celebrating three decades of music. While the specific circumstances under which the celebration will happen is still unclear, Lazyie Bown took to Instagram on May 10 to assure fans that something is going to happen. This is a huge deal, considering the five-man group haven’t put out new music since 2017 or toured since 2022. Apparently, all it took was an anniversary to bring them back together.

Layzie Bone posted a video on his Instagram to confirm that June 23 is a day that Bone Thugs-n-Harmony fans need to clear on their calendars. “We celebrating 30 years now,” he explained. “June 23, 1994, is the day that ‘Thuggish Ruggish Bone’ came out. The celebration of 30 years.” Layzie went on the mention some of the artists that the group has worked with over the years, it’s basically a who’s who of 90s icons. “Now you know you got your Bone and Biggies,” he added. “You got your 2Pacs and your Mariah Careys. And JDs, and Bow Wow. We done mixed and mingled with a lot of people.”

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony Haven’t Toured Since 2022

Then, the bombshell. “Now, on the 30th year anniversary,” the Bone Thugs-n-Harmony rapper stated. “We’re gonna do it again.” It’s about as exciting as an announcement can be while still being vague. Layzie doesn’t clarify whether the group is getting back together to record a new song, new album, or perform a show together. It’s worth noting that the last time Bone Thugs were doing shows, they were pitching it as their “farewell tour.” The group has been through turmoil and inner-conflict over the years, with members coming and going.

Part of the appeal of the so-called “farewell tour” was that all five members agreed to come back and dazzle fans with their flows. Layzie, Krayzie, Wish, Flesh and Bizzy Bone set their differences aside to go out on a high note. It’ll be interesting to see whether this 30th anniversary celebration will follow suit, or if it will see key members sitting out.

Tems Reveals Release Date For New Album “Born In The Wild”

Tems has become a household name in a head-spinning amount of time. The Nigerian songstress went from critically acclaimed artist to pop star thanks to collabs with the likes of Future, Wizkid, and Drake. She even appeared on the soundtrack for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. Tems is officially a big time name, and she hasn’t even dropped an album. At least, so far. She hopped on social media on May 10 to unveil the cover AND release date for her long-awaited debut.

The artwork for her debut album, Born In the Wild, is absolutely striking. The singer is barely illuminated against a black backdrop. All you can see is her eyes, her jewelry, and loose outline of her body. It fits her soulful, ethereal aesthetic to a T. The bigger revelation, though, was the album’s release date. Fans have been waiting for a Tems album for close to five years, so to call a proper release date a huge deal is an understatement. The singer confirmed that Born In the Wild will be dropping on June 7th.

Tems’ Anticipated Debut Will Drop June 7th

Born In the Wild is a long time coming. Tems first teased the album’s existence in 2022 via X (formerly Twitter), and it was originally supposed to drop in May 2024. She didn’t reveal the reason for the delay, but she did reflect on feeling the pressure to deliver during a Billboard profile. The singer claimed she wanted to push the boundaries of what Nigerian performers could get away with. “Is it possible to make this type of music even though I’m Nigerian,” she asked the outlet. “Is there a limit to what I can make? I wanted to find out.”

Tems has released three singles ahead of the album’s release. “Me & U,” “Not An Angel,” and “Love Me JeJe” have all been warmly received by fans and critics.”Me & U” has done particularly well, earning an Outstanding International Song at the 55th NAACP Image Awards. Tems described each of these songs as being powerful because they came from an honest place. “I feed myself with truth and I pray a lot,” she told Apple Music. “I think attaining knowledge and gaining understanding is how you stay grounded.” Now that a proper release date has been dropped, the prayers of Tems’ fans have also been answered.
