Tekashi 6ix9ine Signs Massive New Record Deal With Kartel Music

Tekashi 6ix9ine does not have the hit-making capabilities that he once showcased. The rapper used to be able to top the charts with Nicki Minaj and Fetty Wap collabs. The more time that’s passed, though, the harder it’s become for 6ix9ine to generate interest in his music. He’s a celebrity more than an artist. Which is why the rapper felt the need to switch gears and sign a record deal with a brand new label. TMZ confirmed that Tekashi 6ix9ine recently signed to Kartel Music, and plans to drop an album with regional Mexican artists.

Tekashi 6ix9ine’s deal could potentially net him $6 million. His plan is to record an album that appeals to Spanish-language listeners. He also plans to tour it in Mexico, as well as Central and South America. TMZ analyzed the contract, and claimed that the rapper will be paid $1 million to complete an album with ten songs. He will subsequently be paid $250K for each concert date. All added up, this could result in the aforementioned $6 million. An impressive chunk of change for someone who, as was previously stated, has stalled on the hip hop charts. The deal came with specific conditions, however. Tekashi 6ix9ine cannot run into legal troubles, or get arrested, during the making of the album.

This is not the first time Tekashi 6ix9ine has catered to his Latino audience. His dropped a reggaeton album titled Leyenda Viva in 2023. It boasted appearances from stars like Angel Dior, Grupo Firme and Bulin 47. In addition to the album, 6ix9ine recorded collaborations with reggaeton star Anuel AA on his debut English-language album, Dummy Boy, in 2018. He has always been mindful of his worldwide audience, as he told fans via Instagram Live. He called out critics who claimed he switched up for clout. The rapper also asserted that he should be able to cater to different groups.

“You know how many Spanish n**gas is born and raised,” he asserted. “In the whole of New York City? What ya’ll trying to say, Spanish n**gas can’t eat? When you Spanish, you can only make reggaeton? It’s our culture, too, n**ga.” Tekashi 6ix9ine’s Spanish-language music has not been met with critical acclaim. That said, it hasn’t slowed him down. He recently dropped a diss song for his ex-girlfriend in Spanish. His upcoming album is set to be his most concentrated attempt at crossover success yet.

Lil Durk Divides Fans With His Dramatic “Deep Thoughts” Album Cover Art

Through the release of “Monitoring Me,” Lil Durk kicked off the rollout for his next album Deep Thoughts, which drops on Friday, October 18. He also shared the cover art with his social media followers: a black-and-white image of the Chicago rapper rising up from open water into the sky, adorned by an almost-fully covered crescent moon. Fan reactions were divisive, with some urging Smurk to get down from his high horse and others finding it to be quite the engaging image. It kind of reflects the overall reception to his music as of late, but he’s never backed down from the washed allegations.

However, some die-hards might be disappointed that Lil Durk isn’t coming out with two brand-new projects soon; just one. He called out a fake tracklist that circulated online for a hypothetical Love Songs 4 The Streets 3. It was quite an eclectic feature list, too: Future, Lil Baby, Rod Wave, Morgan Wallen, Sabrina Carpenter, and… Kai Cenat? And iShowSpeed? Well, we don’t blame fans for wanting to hear what this cocktail would’ve resulted in. Maybe later down the road…

Lil Durk’s Deep Thoughts Cover Art: See Comments For Reactions

Also, Lil Durk might not be giving these cover reactions much stock, as he has a lot of praise to fall back on from his Power Book II: Ghost costar, LeToya Tonodeo. “I thought he killed it!” she told TMZ of his performance. “And I hope he keeps going with it. Like, you know, it’s the series finale… *sighs* it’s coming to an end. At least Power Book II: Ghost. But you know what they say, power never ends. So we shall see. […] I think [Lil Durk has a magical quality]. I think so, I mean, he was dope to work with. Super cool, super chill. Yeah, I hope he keeps it going. I hope [we’ll see a lot of him in the future in Hollywood]. I hope so. You’d have to ask him, but in my opinion, I hope so.” Check out reactions to the Deep Thoughts artwork down below.

Meanwhile, DJ Akademiks recently previewed a collab between Lil Durk and Drake that many hope will end up on the former’s new album. Let’s see what the future holds…

Tee Grizzley & G Herbo Skate On Their Latest Collaboration “Swerve”

Tee Grizzley has just put out Post Traumatic, his twelfth project and follow-up to Tee’s Coney Island. The Detroit native has won our support for it, as we really appreciate some of the chances he took with it. There are some nice sample flips and more R&B-like cuts on this 24-song set that go over better than some may expect. What’s also nice about this tape is that Grizzley is giving his fans what they know him for as well. That is hard-hitting trap and hardcore rap bangers with intense flows. Tee Grizzley and G Herbo are doing that and at a high level on “Swerve.”

If you can believe it, this is just the third occasion in which they have been on a song together. The most recent is on YG’s latest record, JUST RE’D UP 3, on the track “MALIBU.” Prior to that, the Midwest stars linked on Tee’s Built For Whatever cut, “Never Bend Never Fold.” On “Swerve,” Herbo and Grizzley equally trade verses and in thrilling fashion. Aiding that sensation is that the fact that they both rap with ease over a dramatic piano trap beat. They indeed slip, slide, and “Swerve” all over the production and it’s one of our go-to’s from this tracklist. Listen to it below and see what you think.

Tee Grizzley Recounts His Troubled Past On “All I Wanna Do”

Tee Grizzley has some pretty underrated skills and one of them is his ability to get reflective. “First Day Out,” his 2017 breakout hit, should have told us this from the start. However, given that his themes usually revolve around street violence and gang activity, it’s gotten lost in the shuffle for us to some degree. But Tee Grizzley is here to remind us of this skill on one of his new songs, “All I Wanna Do.” This lands on the Detroit rapper, singer, and songwriter’s brand-new album, Post Traumatic.

One thing we have praised this record for so far is some of the chances it takes. While it might not sound like much, Grizzley isn’t one to rap over soul samples. He does that on “All I Wanna Do” and it sounds really good, so we are hoping for more of this in the future. On this 2:06 cut, the hitmaker raps in first and third person about his troubled past, including his lengthy prison sentence. He uses these experiences as life lessons, and he expresses how he wants to be inspiration for his close friends. “My street niggas, let me be your motivation / You can make it, I was broke before, I’m talkin’ so hungry that I was shakin’ (Man).” It’s a moving track and one of our favorites so far.

Told him he wasn’t s***, but he was great the whole time

Megan Thee Stallion Continues To Drop Exciting Hints About “Megan: Act 2”

It’s been a busy year for Megan Thee Stallion. The Houston hitmaker made her way across the world on her “Hot Girl Summer” tour, released her third studio album Megan, and more. Luckily, it doesn’t look like she plans on stopping anytime soon. Last month, she unveiled a teaser for her upcoming project, Megan: Act 2.

Since then, she’s been dropping hints here and there about what’s to come. Earlier this week, for example, she took to Twitter/X to promise the “hardest mixtape of 2024.” This suggests that Meg plans on unleashing the project sometime this year, though she’s yet to announce an official release date. This isn’t all she’s spilled about Act 2 so far, however.

Megan Thee Stallion Teases Her Upcoming Mixtape On X

Recently, she also teased a feature from fellow Southern femcee GloRilla. When Glo asked Meg to send her the project, she replied “I just approved your mix.” It won’t be the first time they team up, as GloRilla joined Meg on her tour this summer and recruited her for the track “Wanna Be.” Fans can agree that they work well as a duo, and can’t wait to hear what they’ve come up with. This hint arrived just a few days after Meg previewed a new track, which does not yet have an official title. “Almost done working hotties brb [butterfly emoji] (the song is not out yet),” she wrote at the time.

For now, it remains unclear if Megan: Act Two will be completely separate from Megan, or a deluxe edition of the album. The fact that she’s called it a “mixtape,” however, appears to indicate that it’ll be separate. What do you think of Megan Thee Stallion seemingly dropping hints about her upcoming project? Are you looking forward to finally hearing Megan: Act 2 when it drops? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Toosii Brings His Signature Melding Of R&B & Trap On “JADED”

Toosii is an underrated master of nailing catchy melodies in the R&B/trap space. Granted, it might be because he’s only been in the industry for about four years. But overall, he’s someone you are going to want to stay tapped into moving into the rest of the 2020s decade. He’s got some elements of Gunna and Bryson Tiller, so if you are into those artists, that’s another reason to check out what he’s got cooking. Speaking of which Toosii is cheffing up those exact vibes on his newest album, JADED. This follows up his June 2023 offering NAUJOUR, which is led by his most popular song to date, “Favorite Song”.

Across JADED, you are getting nonchalant Toosii that’s pushing any sort of feelings (especially of true love) down. Yes, there are some love cuts within the 13-songs. However, they are more about lust and sneaky links. Most of the time, the Raleigh, North Carolina native is rapping about reaching his own goals and living lavishly. “Champs Elysees”, one of the lead-off tracks featuring Gunna, is an example of this. Speaking of singles, “Fuk You Mean” is the only other song to have been released prior to JADED. There are some duds in the tracklist such as “She Doesn’t Mind”. But for the most part, Toosii does have more W’s than L’s here. Give it a try with the links below to see how you’re vibing with it.

Jordan Ward & Joony Ruminate On Love On New EP “JRNY”

After bursting onto the scene with his 2023 sophomore album FORWARD, St. Louis singer Jordan Ward has solidified himself as a player in the future of R&B. The album received praise from critics and fans alike. Fans who heard the album thought it had an outside shot at winning the crowded “Best Progressive R&B Album” category at the most recent Grammy Awards. Unfortunately, it did not receive a nomination. It got so much love that he earned a co-sign from SZA, the woman who did eventually win in that category. SZA is the biggest name in R&B today and one of the most acclaimed artists of her generation. Needless to say, that is a high honor. “IDC,” the second track on FORWARD, featured a verse from Maryland rapper Joony, also a budding name. Now, the two are further exploring their musical chemistry on JRNY, their new extended play and first project together.

The two mull over the difficulties of love, a recurring theme on Jordan Ward’s previous album. He sings about infidelity, jealous partners, and other aspects of heartbreak. The production is varied, and both he and Joony sound at home over it. They really do work well together, as they take different approaches to similar subject matter. Ward with his singing and Joony with his bars. Jordan Ward even does a bit of rapping on the last track, showing off his versatility as an artist and reaffirming why people thought so highly of FORWARD. At six songs and only 13 minutes, it does not overstay its welcome, and even if you are not previously familiar with Jordan Ward or Joony, this should still be on your radar. Stream the new offering from the duo below.

Leon Bridges Pours His Heart & Soul Into Self-Titled “Leon” LP

If you have a fondness for 60s era soul, then you may want to check out what Leon Bridges in bringing on his latest effort, Leon. The Columbia records signee from Fort Worth, Texas is giving audiences a heavy dosage of that, as well as some hints of country, gospel, and R&B. Across the 13-song project, you are getting a lot of mellow and soft instrumentation. Summer may be over, but this album’s soundscape has us daydreaming about those perfect temperature evenings while you take a ride in a 60s convertible around the coast. Right from the opening track, “When a Man Cries”, you can tell just how much love and emotion went into creating Leon.

Part of the reason for that is because Leon Bridges says this album has a lot of personal weight for him. In statement, he explains, “In many ways, Leon has been in the works since my childhood. This record is about simpler days. It’s about time spent in my beloved Fort Worth and the experiences that made me the man I am today. It’s soulful music in the truest sense; it’s imbued with my soul.” Moreover, he says that the style you are hearing on the record is something that he felt needed to be expanded upon and seen further. Leon had been working on this self-titled endeavor since his last record, 2021’s Gold-Diggers Sound. “They didn’t fit what I was trying to do with that album, and I tried moving on. But I couldn’t shake them because they’re part of me. And, if I’m honest, also because I think this is some of my most excellent work yet.” We certainly agree and it’s why you need to spin this immediately.

310Babii Drops Sophomore Album “310Degrees”

Rising Inglewood rapper 310Babii unloaded his latest album, 310Degrees. The 18-year-old has been earning some buzz online thanks in part to his 2023 viral hit, “Soak City.” The track earned him his first spot on the Billboard Hot 100 (peaking at #53) as well as a platinum certification. He also had the first major festival performance of his career, delivering a set at Rolling Loud Cali in March. Additionally, he performed “Soak City” on the red carpet at the BET Awards. 310Degrees features a lengthy guest list. Roy Woods makes multiple appearances. OhGeesy, BlueBucksClan, Luh Tyler, Saweetie, and others round out the list. 310Babii blends familiar sounds from across popular hip-hop, but his California upbringing cuts through everything else and it is still a West Coast album at its core.
