Ab-Soul Hits Billboard Hot 100 With J. Cole Assist, A Career Milestone

Ab-Soul has a reason to celebrate! The Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) rapper has recently scored his first Billboard Hot 100 entry. The win is a courtesy of a collaboration with none other than J. Cole. Cole’s track “Pi,” featuring Ab-Soul and rising talent Daylyt, has not only made its mark on the Hot 100 but has also ascended to No. 29 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It appears on Cole’s mixtape Might Delete Later. For Ab-Soul, this achievement marks a significant breakthrough in his career. Moreover, it signals a new chapter of recognition and acclaim.

Furthermore, it’s worth noting that the track “Pi” received some backlash. J. Cole delivers verses that have stirred controversy due to his potentially insensitive content. In one segment, Cole’s lyrics raise questions, as they could be interpreted as containing casual transphobic undertones. He raps, “Is you a demon or is that demeanor for the ‘Gram? Tell us/They plead the fifth, I’m seeing hints of a trans fella/In cancel culture’s vicinity, he’s no killer, trust me/Beneath his chosen identity, there is still a pussy, period.” However, only time will tell if he plans on clearing it up or not.

GloRilla Has Wardrobe Malfunction During DUI Arrest In Georgia

GloRilla likes to have fun. Her biggest hits, “Wanna Be” and “Blessed,” are about dispatching the haters and living life to the fullest. Unfortunately, the “Blessed” rapper appeared to have too much fun during a recent stop in Gwinnett Country, Georgia. TMZ reported that GloRilla was arrested on Tuesday, April 16 on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was also charged with an unrelated traffic charge and possessing an open alcoholic beverage container.

GloRilla was pulled over at 4 AM ET on Tuesday morning, according to local police. She made an illegal U-turn at a red light, and was subsequently pulled over. The officer who filled out the arrest sheet stated that the rapper’s car smelled of alcohol and marijuana, but she refused to divulge how much she’d had of either. She then insisted that she was fine to drive, which led the officer to administer a field sobriety test. GloRilla failed each part of the test, per TMZ, and refused to take a breathalyzer afterwards. It was during said refusal that the arresting officer claimed that GloRilla suffered a wardrobe malfunction. Her breast slipped out of her dress, which she was unaware of until she was explicitly told.

GloRilla Was Charged With Having Open Alcohol In A Car

GloRilla was taken into custody around 6:12 AM ET, and subsequently released on bond. This is not the first time she’s run into trouble with the law. She admitted to serving jail time over an unspecified crime during an appearance on Cornbread TV. GloRilla neglected to reveal the details of the crime. She did, however, shoot down the rumor that she served three years in prison for stealing boxes of cereal from KMart. The rumor became so popular that the rapper actually mocked fans on X (formerly Twitter) for believing it.

“You hoes really sat y’all ass up there & believed I went to jail for 3 years for stealing cereal,” she tweeted in 2023. “Dats why you ho*s hearts be in y’all a*s today because y’all believe whatever a n***a tell you,” she wrote. “Dats da reason you N***as be taking care of kids dats not y’all’s till they 12 because you believe whatever a ho [sic] tell you!”

GloRilla has yet to publicly address her DUI charges.

It was an ordinary Wednesday night (April 17) until Lil Nas X decided to finally drop “Lean On My Body,” which might sound familiar to his most ardent fans and followers. On March 17, 2022, Lil Nas X posted a video appearing to casually walk on a treadmill while rapping bars from “Lean On My Body.” He resurfaced the post on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “I know I’m 10 years late but I’m dropping lean on my body in a couple minutes.”

As promised, “Lean On My Body” arrived on SoundCloud and YouTube shortly thereafter. Lil Nas X additionally that Nasarati 2, his forthcoming project, is indeed “OTW.”

Big Sean And Jhene Aiko Treat Fans To Romantic Coachella Performance

Big Sean and Jhene Aiko have chemistry. Anybody who has seen the two artists perform, or listened to their joint album, Twenty88, can attest to this. Both have lessened their output in recent years, but Aiko’s recent Coachella performance was a reminder of how charming they can be when performing alongside one another. Aiko’s weekend set was loaded with guests, including Omarion and Saweetie, but the real highlight was when Big Sean popped up to perform the 2013 single “Beware.”

Both Sean and Jhene were in top form as they traded verses. The part that really hit audience members in the feels, however, was during the song’s outro. The instrumental slowed down, and the artists looked into each other’s eyes while singing in unison. Aiko can be seen laughing near the eight-second mark of the accompanying video. The crowd helped them shout the chorus, and the two hugged and kissed as soon as the song ended. Big Sean gave Jhene Aiko a pat on the butt as he left the stage, and the latter urged the crowd to cheer on the father of her son, Noah. It doesn’t get more wholesome during a Coachella set.

“Beware” was a fitting choice for Big Sean and Jhene Aiko’s lone Coachella performance. It was the first collaboration between the two artists, and would eventually be certified three times platinum. They have since gone on to record several collabs, including “Moments” (2017) and “Body Language” (2020). Aiko told Elle that she and Big Sean have very different approaches to making music, but she feels they bring the best out of each other. “I work on songs little by little, and he doesn’t,” she explained. “He’ll finish a song in one night. It motivates me. I’m never mad at it because it does help me be more productive. It’s always a good time, though, because we’re always just being silly and making jokes.”

Despite having an infant son at home, Big Sean and Jhene Aiko have big career plans for 2024. Sean will release a book titled Go Higher on October 8, and he released his latest single, “Precision,” on March 22. Aiko doesn’t have a solid release date for her next project, but the tentatively titled JA4 is also theorized to drop this year. Both have credited parenthood with redefining their approach to art. “It’s funny how [kids] end up being the teachers,” Sean told People Magazine. “Even though you’re there to guide and teach them, they teach you. That’s something I really appreciate.”

NBA YoungBoy’s New Mugshot Surfaces Online Following His Latest Arrest

NBA YoungBoy has had his fair share of legal issues in the past, and unfortunately, they don’t show signs of slowing down anytime soon. Earlier this week, it was revealed that the rapper was arrested at his Utah home, which he’s dubbed Gravedigger Mountain. He’s been on house arrest there, awaiting trial for a federal gun charge, for two years.

YB was booked for “patterns of unlawful activity, procuring or attempting to procure drugs, identity fraud, forgery, possession of controlled substances, and possession of a dangerous weapon.” He was taken into custody yesterday (April 16) following a search of his property. It remains unclear exactly what he’s accused of. Either way, the arrest could certainly threaten his ability to await trial at home.

Amid all of the chatter and questions remaining about YB’s legal drama, his latest mugshot has surfaced online. In the photo, the 24-year-old looks relatively unbothered, though it’s hard to tell by the low-quality image. Regardless, he’s got a lot to worry about these days, particularly if he’s found guilty of what he’s being accused of. This isn’t the first time his house arrest privileges were threatened either. At the end of February, prosecutors filed a request to address his allegedly “non-compliant behavior,” accusing him of doing drugs despite strict orders not to. It’s not been revealed exactly which substances YB was accused of using, however, he allegedly told supervising officers he had “no intentions” of stopping.

Jermaine Dupri Claims AI Music Generator Is “Disrespectful” To Artists

Jermaine Dupri knows talent when he hears it. The producer has worked with some of the most popular artists of the last few decades, including Mariah Carey and Usher. He’s also a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which is a testament to his musical versatility. It’s for these reasons and more that Dupri is upset with the current state of the industry. During a recent interview with AllHipHop, the producer said that he was “disgusted” by the advent of the AI music generator Udio. In his estimation, the generator should be boycotted by real artists.

Udio is an AI music generator that allows users to create a song within 40 seconds. It does not require knowledge of musical scales or instruments. Dupri believes the low barrier for entry is an insult to those who had dedicated time to mastering their craft. “N***as that’s been playing music they whole life that take piano lessons, keyboard lessons, whatever, guitar lessons,” he said. “We’re allowing a company of people that are probably not musicians to say, ‘We making an app so everybody and anybody can make music and be a music virtuoso’.” Furthermore, the producer points out that Udio could hurt the financial earnings of artists.

Jermaine Dupri Thinks Udio Will Hurt Music

Jermaine Dupri criticized former So So Def affiliate Chris Lyons for his involvement with Udio, and likened the music generator to the lack of music regulation on TikTok. “I ain’t understood this for a long time,” he admitted. “It’s starting to be more apparent now. It’s the same reason that [Universal Music Group CEO] Lucian [Grainge] pulled the plug on TikTok. That’s what I’m saying. I don’t understand why we keep allowing this s**t to happen.” The resentment on Dupri’s end largely stems from the fact that those pushing Udio are not part of the music business.

“Why do we keep having or keep allowing people from different backgrounds, people from different walks of life, come in our business?”, he asked the AllHipHop interviewer. “You don’t do this to the NBA. They don’t do this to football. They don’t do this to no business because the business don’t allow this.” Dupri’s comments about AI could not have come at a better time. Fake AI diss tracks have run rampant in the last few weeks, especially in relation to the ongoing Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud. Dupri may have a point.

SZA Delivers A Pro-Palestine Message During Recent Concert

Her latest single “Saturn” is right there beside it having peaked at number 6 earlier this year. Now she’s listening to the requests of much of her fanbase and putting her superstar status behind a major social and political issue.

She’s currently on the international leg of her SOS Tour where she stopped in New Zealand for a three night stretch of shows. During the final night she soared through some of her biggest hits and fan-favorite songs as usual. But during a break in the music she took the opportunity to express solidarity with the people suffering in Gaza as a result of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
