Eminem Comes For Megan Thee Stallion, Paul Rosenberg, And His Own Kids On His New Song ‘Houdini’

Guess who’s back, back again? Shady’s back, quite possibly for the last time. Over the past few weeks, Eminem has been teasing a graceful exit. Earlier this month, he announced his 12th studio album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), teasing a potential bow-out from music. He continued to fuel rumors of his impending retirement in a teaser for his new single, “Houdini,” in a clip in which he tells magician David Blaine he plans to make his career disappear. Tonight (May 31), Eminem kicked off the end of an era with “Houdini.”

On “Houdini,” Eminem takes a look at the current cultural landscape, offering his takes on recent events.

Some lines are just plain tasteless

“If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me / Would I really have a shot at a feat.”

Some are boomer-coded

“My transgender cat’s Siamese / Identifies as black, but acts Chinese”

And some are callbacks to the old Slim Shady, who would diss everyone, even members of his own crew

F*ck Dre, f*ck Jimmy, f*ck me, f*ck you F*ck my own kids, they’re brats

The song marks a return to the irreverent form with which Eminem first stepped onto the scene. But who’s asking for this in 2024? The accompanying video — which features cameos from Dr. Dre, Pete Davidson, and Shane Gillis — continues upon his “Without Me” video from 2002, with current Eminem and 2002 Slim Shady examining all that has changed in the past two decades.

As the age-old adage holds, old habits die hard.

Eminem Disses Megan Thee Stallion On New Single “Houdini”

Eminem is back in Slim Shady mode. There are lots of different ways to tell. For one, the rapper’s new album will be called The Death of Slim Shady. The music video for his lead single, “Houdini,” features the classic, bleach blond Slim in action. The most telling side effect of a Slim Shady sighting, however, is the lyrical insult. Eminem’s alter ego loves to take shots at his peers, his predecessors, and pretty much any other person he can think of. He targets multiple people in “Houdini,” but the most notable is far and away Megan Thee Stallion.

Eminem turned the zaniness up to ten on the new single. He tells Dr. Dre to “f*ck off,” and does to the same to his children (one of whom just got married). Both Dre and his family are been topics of scorn and adoration over the years, however. Megan Thee Stallion is someone new. The rapper flipped a line about scoring a guest verse from Megan into a double entendre about Tory Lanez shooting her in the foot. “If I was to ask for Megan Thee (What?) Stallion if she would collab with me,” he raps. “Would I really have a shot at a feat? (Haha). I don’t know, but I’m glad to be back like.”

Eminem Mocks Megan Thee Stallion’s Shooting Injury

It’s a clever turn of phrase, but a topic that has not been received by the hip-hop community. Rappers who have poked fun at Megan Thee Stallion have either been scored by fans or Megan herself, in the form of a diss. Megan managed to win her battle with Nicki Minaj while dropping a number one single, “HISS,” in the process. The diss song, which dropped in January, is actually relevant to the current Em situation. Megan Thee Stallion made an oblique reference to Slim Shady on “HISS.” “I feel like Mariah Carey (Mariah Carey),” she rapped. “Got these n**has so obsessed (Damn).”

The line is meant to address Megan’s haters, but it’s also a reference to the 2008 Mariah Carey diss song “Obsessed.” The target of Mimi’s diss was, infamously, Eminem. The tension between the pop superstar and the rapper ran throughout the 2000s, and many feel like the former won out with a hit single. Eminem dissing Megan Thee Stallion over a subliminal actually makes a lot of sense. Eminem knows how to hold a grudge against rappers who slight him. He waited years to respond to MGK on record, and when he did, he demolished the pop-punk artist. It’ll be interesting to see if Megan Thee Stallion decides to respond.

GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, And Cardi B Join Hot Girl Forces On The ‘Wanna Be’ Remix

The hottest song of the summer just got even better. Last month, Memphis rapper GloRilla dropped her Ehhthang Ehhthang mixtape, which featured the Megan Thee Stallion collaboration, “Wanna Be.” Tonight (May 24) Glo and Meg have shared the remix to “Wanna Be,” which features a new verse from a fellow heavy hitter, Cardi B.

The three first teased the remix during the New York City stop of Meg and Glo’s Hot Girl Summer Tour, during which, Cardi made a surprise appearance. And of course, the three delivered.

Both Meg and Glo’s verses remain the same as their verses on the original version, but Cardi packs a punch with verse of her own.

On Cardi’s verse, she opens the song unleashing the heat, stacking up bars full of clever wordplay and warnings to the opps.

“These b*tches be boring, corny / Pop out, new bag with jewelry / Throwing ass all on my story / I make a photographer horny,” Cardi raps on her verse.

Granted, the original version of “Wanna Be” was already a hit, but Cardi joining in makes her the Blossom to Meg’s Bubbles and Glo’s Buttercup. The Powerpuff Girls of rap are running the game this summer.

You can listen to the “Wanna Be” remix above.

Kehlani Finds Their Peace ‘Next 2 U’ On Their New Single

Kehlani is opening themselves up to love. Ahead of their upcoming forth album, Crash, they’ve shared “Next 2 U,” their soft, sweet romantic ballad.

On “Next 2 U,” Kehlani finds themselves smitten and in a state of infatuation. But now, having experienced heartbreak in different forms, they are ready to let down their walls and invite in the feelings of love and infatuation.

“You’re more than the sun, you’re why the sun beams / Your love is high, wide like a river / And if I die, I already fell in love / I know what it’s like to feel like I’m dyin’ in peace,” Kehlani sings on the song’s chorus.

Kehlani has never been one to shy away from any emotion, but when speaking with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe about their upcoming album, Crash, they revealed that they had the most fun making this project, compared to their others.

“I wanted to make things for once that didn’t feel reminiscent,” said Kehlani. “For once, I’m not attached to some story or some public thing or some trauma or some deep explanations. As we go out this process and we have to talk to each other a bunch to all these people, I have nothing but joyful things to say to you.”

Normani Can’t Help But Draw All The Attention On Her New Single, ‘Candy Paint’

We are just two weeks out from Normani’s long-awaited solo debut album, Dopamine. And tonight (May 31), the starlet on the rise dropped the viral “Candy Paint.”

Normani has been teasing “Candy Paint” for quite some time. The song appeared in a campaign for Bose last summer. And over the course of the past few weeks, the “Candy Paint” dance challenge has been a trending move on TikTok. And the full version delivers on it’s banging promise.

Over a clangy, bumping beat, Normani pops in, fully aware that all eyes are on her. She can’t help that she’s young and beautiful, nor can she help whose heads turn in her direction. Taking inspiration from her hometown of Houston, she draws attention like the lowriders in the 713.

“If you let me take him, you might never get him back / I’m a baddie and I don’t know how to act / Booty candy painted with the diamond in the back,” she sings on the chorus.

It’s been six years since Normani’s former girl group announced their indefinite hiatus, and since Normani first starting teasing her solo album. But “Candy Paint,” along with the previously released “1:59,” precedes a project that already seems to be worth the long wait.

Dopamine is out 6/14 via RCA. Find more information here.

Fred Again.., Anderson .Paak, And Chika Set The Sexy Summer Vibes On Their New Collab, ‘Places To Be’

This summer, we’re all gonna be outside. And Fred Again.. just dropped a hot contender for the song of the season. Joined by Anderson .Paak and Chika, Fred is setting the sexy vibes with his new single, “Places To Be.”

Over an energetic beat, listeners can feel their hearts racing, instantly calling back their favorite summer fling. On the chorus, Chika and Paak repeat “Hello, I got places to be / Got me next to you, and you next to me,” utilizing a sample of a poem called “Intimacy,” first shared to Soundcloud by Chika in 2017

Paak takes the bridge, delivering his signature raspy vocals, as he promises his loyalty to a woman, and simply asks the same in return.

“Baby girl, there’s nothin’ that could keep from you / Haters always wanna keep me from you / Got me pickin’ out my speed now for ya / Please be loyal,” he sings.

The song’s speed slows down toward the end, sonically symbolizing winding down in the summertime heat, with your favorite person by your side.

In addition to this instantly iconic track, Paak is gearing up to release more music this summer. Next Friday (June 7), Paak will release his new collab album with Knxwledge as the supergroup NxWorries, called Why Lawd?.

In the meantime, you can listen to “Got Places To Be” above.

Snoop Dogg Loved Luka Doncic Trash Talking A Heckler Behind Snoop’s Seats In Minnesota

Luka Doncic is one of the NBA’s best players when it comes to ripping an opposing team’s heart out on a big stage. There have been some pretty prominent examples in the past of Doncic finding a level that no one else in the league can reach when the Dallas Mavericks really need it — just ask the Phoenix Suns, as Doncic famously once walked into their building and ended their season in a Game 7 with an absolutely stunning performance.

While it’s not happening in a Game 7, Doncic painted his latest masterpiece on Thursday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The game took place in Target Center, and a win would mean that Dallas would move on to the NBA Finals. As such, Doncic had 25 at halftime, the Mavs went into the locker room with a 29 point lead, and everyone in the building was just totally deflated. In fact, Doncic got to use the second half of the game getting into it with fans, namely this one guy who appeared to call him a crybaby.

Well, Doncic finished a layup through traffic and drew a foul, and right after, he turned to the guy and had something to say. Sitting in front of the heckler was none other than Snoop Dogg, who thought Luka tearing into some dude was absolutely hilarious.

Doncic wasn’t going at Snoop here, but boy, it would’ve been something if he did.

Megan Thee Stallion Explains Why “HISS” Single Helped Her Depression

Megan Thee Stallion may be one of the most popular rappers in the world, but she’s had a difficult path to success. Her rise to fame coincided with a lengthy legal battle against Torey Lanez. The battle ended with Lanez receiving jail time, but a lot was said about Megan’s character that affected her self esteem. The rapper admitted that she felt ganged up on by the rest of the music industry as a result. She talked about this difficult period during a recent profile with L’OFFICIEL, and how the single “HISS” helped her get out of it.

Megan Thee Stallion told the outlet that she fell into a depression during the Lanez trial. “I felt so awful every day,” she admitted. “It was such a hard place to get out of. I don’t even want to care who hates me, really. What I should be focusing on is the love that I do receive.” The rapper said that this period helped her develop a thick skin. “That’s what I’m trying to get better about now,” she asserted. “Everything is not going to be great all the time. If I’m going to be here for the cheers, I got to be here for the boos.”

Megan Thee Stallion Felt Validated By The Song’s Success

It’s fitting that music was the thing that revived Megan’s spirit. The rapper was being attacked from all sides, including from Nicki Minaj. The two had thrown shots at each other previously, but it turned up a notch at the top of 2024. It was, in many ways, a precursor to the year of rap battles that we’ve had so far. Megan Thee Stallion put out the Nicki Minaj diss “HISS,” and it went straight to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. “Hiss” marked the rapper’s third number one single and first as a solo artist. It also was a shot of confidence at a much-needed time in her life.

“It felt good to finally be able to just talk my talk because I was in a place where I was so down, and I didn’t want to do anything to disrupt any kind of peace,” she opined. “I felt like, ‘Oh, Megan Thee Stallion, everybody hates you right now. Don’t you say a word. Just be quiet.’” “HISS” was also an opportunity to prove that she had what it took to go at the queen of hip-hop, Nicki Minaj, and come out the victor. This came as a surprise to even Megan herself. “I absolutely did not know it was going to do all of that,” she told the outlet. “I had no clue that was going to happen. It felt like everybody was kicking me when I was down.” If that’s not a remedy for depression, we don’t know what is.

DJ Akademiks Gets Dragged For Defending Donald Trump After Guilty Verdict

Earlier today, Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an alleged hush-money scheme, in which he was accused of paying off adult film star Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence on their alleged affair. He’s now the first president in U.S. history with a felony, and his sentencing has been scheduled for July. “This was a disgrace,” Trump said following the verdict. “This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt.”

As reactions to the news continue to pour in, DJ Akademiks has taken to Twitter/X to share his take on Trump’s conviction. According to him, everyone is simply overreacting. Moreover, he admits that the guilty verdict has made him want to vote for Trump in the upcoming presidential election.

OVO 40 Allegedly Threatened DJ Over Playing Drake Diss “Not Like Us”

OVO 40 has been in Drake’s corner since day one. He codified the rapper’s signature sound on So Far Gone, and has since become known as the architect of what’s been dubbed the “Toronto Sound.” There is no 2010s without 40. This venerated status is partially why the producer feels so protective of Drake. More protective than fans would expect, if recent allegations are to be believed. DJ Cipha Sounds said that 40 threatened him with violence if he dared to play any Drake disses in Toronto.

DJ Cipha Sounds went on the Juan Epstein podcast and recounted the run-in he had with OVO 40. He claimed that the producer told him no to play the Kendrick Lamar song “Not Like Us” in Drake’s city, and if he did, 40 would take immediate action. “How about I go to your city and play a song where someone calls you a ped*phile,” OVO 40 allegedly told the DJ. “It’s on sight, when I see you, I’m gonna smack you in the mouth.” Cipha Sounds was completely taken aback by the interaction. The thing that bothered him the most, however, was the statement OVO 40 made afterwards.

OVO 40 Allegedly Told The DJ “It’s On Sight”

“He goes, ‘I know you never liked us,’” Cipha Sounds recounts. The DJ took particular umbrage with this claim. “How, why?” he responded. “I’m only, only supportive and play everything you put out. What are you talking about.” OVO 40’s frustration is not surprising, given the producer’s passion for Toronto and the OVO legacy as a whole. He appeared in a 2022 documentary titled Toronto Rising, in which detailed his desire to leave an impact on the city. It’s a desire that’s allowed him to combat the complications of an MS diagnosis and oversee some of the most impactful albums of his generations.

“As long as I had like one finger that still worked, no matter what the world took from me,” OVO 40 said in the documentary. “I could play the keyboard and I could make music. All the things in my life just kind of pointed me in one direction. I’m here to play my part and to leave my impact.” 40’s concern regarding Drake also makes sense. The “Family Matters” rapper has been forced to deal with some dangerous situations since his battle with Kendrick Lamar. There was a shooting outside of the rapper’s Toronto mansion that injured a bodyguard, as well as numerous trespassers.
