The-Dream Claims Rape Allegations Are Untrue And Defamatory

The music world has been the focus of grave accusations over the last few months. Diddy has been accused of assaulting multiple women, beyond the harrowing footage of him attacking Cassie. Kanye West has been sued for sexual harassing a former employee. And now, The-Dream is being accused of similarly horrible actions. Chanaaz Mangroe, better known as Channii Monroe, accused the R&B singer of assault and sexually violent encounters of an extended period of time.

Mangroe’s allegations were made public on June 4, and within hours, The-Dream issued a response. In a statement obtained by the New York Times, the R&B singer claimed that none of what Mangroe said was true. “These claims are untrue and defamatory,” the statement read. The-Dream also said he was firmly against harassment. “I oppose all forms of harassment,” he added. “I have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.”

The-Dream Has Previously Been Accused Of Assault

The-Dream’s comments have not deterred his accuser. Mangroe maintains that the R&B singer raped her on more than one occasion. She also claimed that The-Dream would “frequently” strangle her during “violent sex” that became so intense during one instance “she almost lost consciousness.” Other details paint a picture of The-Dream as a manipulative person who controlled every single aspect of Mangroe’s life. According to People Magazine, Mangroe is naming The-Dream and his label, Epic Records, in a suit for enabling “depraved behavior.”

The-Dream has a history of violent behavior. The singer was arrested for a domestic violence incident in 2013, but his girlfriend refused to press charges. He was arrested the following year on charges of felony assault and strangulation against the same girlfriend, Lydia Nam. The girlfriend claimed that The-Dream “punched, kicked, and strangled her” while she was pregnant with their son. She reported the incident seven months later, and the singer turned himself in for questioning. The charges against him were ultimately dismissed due to a lack of evidence.

Statik Selektah Calls Out Joe Budden For Giving DJ Akademiks A Platform

DJ Akademiks is one of the most controversial figures in the rap media. He’s beefed with numerous major stars of the genre and faced backlash from fans and fanbases on dozens of occasions. In recent years its been one controversy after another for the podcaster but one specific complaint has stood out. He’s been accused of mysogyny repeatedly especially in high-profile cases with Megan Thee Stallion and SZA. Now Statik Selektah is calling out one of the hosts who has enabled Akademiks’ rhetoric for years.

During a recent interview Akademiks comes up. Statik pivots the conversation to some of the people who give him a platform. He lists recent controversial stories Ak went through with artists like Freddie Gibbs and Erykah Badu as reasons why he shouldn’t be given a broad reaching platform. Then he specifically calls out hosts like Joe Budden and Elliott Wilson who enable Ak to continue causing controversy by inviting him onto their platforms. He also repeatedly claims that Ak is on his way out, something that fans debate in the comments. Check out the full clip of his discussion of Akademiks below.

Statik Selektah Calls Out Joe Budden For Enabling DJ Akademiks

The most recent controversy DJ Akademiks has found himself involved in is with Donald Trump. Fans came at him with pretty harsh criticism after he claimed that Trump’s recent conviction for 34 felonies made him want to vote for the former president even more later this year. When given the opportunity to correct the narrative he chose to double down on his pro-Trump talking points. That drew even more controversy. He’s also repeatedly confused even some of his most die hard fans with his takes on the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef.

What do you think of Statik Selektah calling out Joe Budden and Elliott Wilson for giving DJ Akademiks a platform to cause controversy? Do you agree with him that Ak would be on the way out if bigger platforms stopped inviting him on? Let us know in the comment section below.

The-Dream Accused Of Rape & Sexual Battery By Former Protegée: What We Know

Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, better known as The-Dream, a celebrated producer and songwriter renowned for his work with megastars like Beyoncé and Rihanna, is now facing serious accusations. A lawsuit filed on Tuesday by Chanaaz Mangroe, an artist The-Dream once mentored, alleges rape and sexual battery, The New York Times reports. The-Dream, with eight Grammy Awards to his name, has a legacy of creating hits that have defined the pop and R&B genres. However, these recent claims threaten to overshadow his achievements.

Details Of The Allegations

Chanaaz Mangroe, who performed as Channii Monroe, alleges that The-Dream manipulated her with promises of stardom to trap her in an abusive relationship. The lawsuit outlines numerous incidents beginning in 2015 where The-Dream allegedly forced her into sexual acts, strangled her, and recorded intimate moments, later using the footage as a threat. These abuses purportedly started shortly after their initial meeting in Atlanta when he invited her to collaborate on music projects.

The Influence & Manipulation

With a repertoire that includes hits like “Umbrella” by Rihanna and “Single Ladies” by Beyoncé, The-Dream holds substantial sway in the music industry. The lawsuit portrays him as exploiting this power, using career advancement as a lure to control Mangroe. She alleges he pressured her into sexual acts by claiming it was necessary for her professional success, effectively intertwining her aspirations with her abuse.

Escalating Abuse & Control

the-dream lawsuit

The complaint describes a disturbing escalation in Gesteelde-Diamant’s behavior. Mangroe alleges Gesteelde-Diamant placed her in a hotel under surveillance by his security team and faced verbal abuse for minor grievances. The lawsuit also claims The-Dream provided her with drugs and alcohol and forced her into non-consensual sexual activities. In one of these instances, she claimed that it took place in a movie theater.

“What Dream did to me made it impossible to live the life I envisioned for myself and pursue my goals as a singer and songwriter,” Ms. Mangroe said in a statement. “Ultimately, my silence has become too painful, and I realized that I need to tell my story to heal. I hope that doing so will also help others and prevent future horrific abuse.”

Mangroe’s lawsuit also implicates Epic Records, a Sony subsidiary, for their inaction when she reported the abuse. She claims an executive dismissed her concerns and suggested she reconcile with Gesteelde-Diamant. By 2016, she alleges that Epic dropped her due to his influence. The lawsuit leverages the Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act. This permits older cases of sexual assault to be prosecuted beyond the standard limitations period.

Responses & Historical Allegations

the-dream lawsuit

Gesteelde-Diamant has denied the allegations, calling them false and defamatory. He stressed his opposition to harassment and commitment to supporting fellow artists. “These claims are untrue and defamatory,” he said in the statement. “I oppose all forms of harassment and have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.” However, this isn’t the first time he’s faced such accusations. In 2014, he was accused of assaulting a pregnant former girlfriend. However, the court dropped the charges due to lack of evidence.

Mangroe is represented by Douglas H. Wigdor and Meredith A. Firetog, the same lawyers who represented singer Cassie in a notable case against Sean Combs. They argue that Mangroe’s case exemplifies a broader issue of powerful men in the music industry abusing their positions. They hope this lawsuit will expose these practices and contribute to preventing future abuses.

Conclusion

The allegations against The-Dream highlight severe issues of exploitation and abuse within the music industry. As the legal proceedings unfold, they may bring increased scrutiny and potentially lead to significant changes in how such allegations are handled. This case underscores the misuse of power and the bravery of those who come forward to tell their stories.

The Alchemist Has Jokes When Asked About Kendrick Lamar Using His Beat For “Meet The Grahams”

The Alchemist says he didn’t have any issues with Kendrick Lamar using one of his beats for “Meet The Grahams.” The iconic producer discussed his reaction to the diss track during a Q&A with fans on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. When asked about the song, he downplayed the seriousness of the situation with jokes about Cap’n Crunch cereal.

Questlove made it known that you weren’t aware Kendrick was going to use your beat for meet the graham’s. Did it bother you that Kendrick did that?” one fan asked. “Was it okay with you that Questlove gave us that information?” In response, Alchemist explained: “Nah but I was extremely bothered and downright livid when I realized that all these years I did not know that Cap’n Crunch’s full name is Horatio Magellan Crunch.”

Lamar released “Meet The Grahams” back on Friday, May 3rd, immediately following the release of Drake’s song, “Family Matters.” On the song, he gets extremely personal with Drake while criticizing his relationship with several family members. He followed it up with the hit song, “Not Like Us,” the next day, before Drake eventually retaliated with “The Heart Part 6.” In the weeks since that chaotic weekend, both artists have been silent on the diss track front. Drake, however, just dropped the viral “Wah Gwan Delilah” with Snowd4y.

Kaytranada And Channel Tres ‘Drip Sweat’ All Over The Dance Floor In Their Pulsating New ‘Timeless’ Single

The video for “Drip Sweat,” the new single by Kaytranada and Compton house-hop rapper Channel Tres from Kaytra’s upcoming album Timeless, is slippery, steamy, and wet. The two dance music mainstays throw a packed rave in a building’s lobby, complete with strobe lights and a blasting sprinkler system. Think of the rave scene from Blade with more Black people and less blood.

The song is the second single from Timeless after Kaytranada revealed that the previously released “Lover/Friend” with Rochelle Jordan and “Stuntin” also with Channel Tres, were the introductory singles for the album cycle. The album is Kaytra’s first since 2019’s Bubba, which won a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album and a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for its single “10%.”

Although Kaytranada hasn’t released a solo album in five years, he maintained a presence in the limelight thanks to his collaborations with IDK (Simple) and Aminé (Kaytraminé). He also produced underground hits for R&B stars like Anderson .Paak, Joyce Wrice, Ravyn Lenae, and Victoria Monét, playing at last year’s Coachella with a slew of guest stars, including Kali Uchis. This August, he’ll be one of the performers at Aminé’s inaugural festival, The Best Day Ever.

Timeless is out 6/7 via RCA Records. Find more information here.
