Metro Boomin Partners With The NBA For New 2024 Finals Campaign

Metro Boomin revealed his collaboration with the NBA for their 2024 NBA Finals run. Metro’s music is included in a new TV spot for the partnership that will air tonight before the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks play Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Metro’s viral smash song “Runnin Outta Time,” featuring Future from their number-one album We Don’t Trust You is included in the commercial. Throughout the season, this campaign will be featured on ESPN’s social media channels and run across partners for ESPN/ABC.

Metro Boomin will also perform at the GQ x ESPN Watch Party and Concert to commemorate Game 1 of the NBA Finals in addition to the commercial debut. The kickoff for this private, invite-only event is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC. The goal of the performance is to infuse the finals with fresh energy, raising viewers’ and sports fans’ enthusiasm as they watch the Celtics and Mavericks battle for the title. Drake, the recipient of the Metro and future diss record “Like That,” coincidentally also has a deal with the NBA finals to produce special OVO jackets to commemorate the event.

Metro Boomin Gets NBA Finals Commercial

“Shot a cool commercial for the @NBA finals on @ABC! game 1 tomorrow,” the “BBL Drizzy” producer wrote to X when announcing the ad. It doesn’t appear like Metro Boomin and Drake are especially fond of one another. To put it mildly, that is. In conclusion, a rap beef between Drake and Lamar began with Metro and Future’s We Don’t Trust You track “Like That,” which included Kendrick Lamar. The battle included other diss tracks between the two artists, as well as Metro’s “BBL Drizzy.” Thus, in addition to pitting the Boston Celtics against the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals of 2024, it has also turned into a makeshift arena for Drake and Metro Boomin to go back and forth.

The NBA Finals begin in Boston on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. ET. Jayson Tatum and the Celtics will play Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Dallas Mavericks in a best-of-seven series to determine who will be holding the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Metro Boomin is making moves with his new commercial spot. Overall, the NBA Finals will be must see TV for hoops fans. All in all, it should be fun.

Childish Gambino Hilariously Shuts Down TikTok Critic With New Song Preview

It’s no secret that being a huge artist comes with quite a few perks, but it also means that your work is subject to intense scrutiny. This can likely get annoying to those simply trying to express themselves through their art, prompting them to fire back. Childish Gambino did just that earlier this week, getting creative with his response and giving fans a preview of some upcoming music in the process.

He shared a TikTok that begins with a fellow user criticizing him, saying “Here are the reasons I don’t f*ck with Donald Glover.” From there, the video cuts to Childish Gambino looking jaded with an unreleased song playing in the background. “He’s finding out that nobody gives a f*ck,” he sings on the track.

Childish Gambino Expertly Fires Back At Hater

Fans first got a taste of the upcoming song last week in another TikTok, which sees Childish Gambino sitting in a car, staring blankly as it plays. It’s tentatively titled “Lithonia (Nobody Gives a F*ck),” and listeners expect it to appear on his upcoming album, Bando Stone in The New World. The project, first announced in April of this year, will follow his latest release, Atavista. Reportedly, it will be the last album he drops under his rap moniker, and will also serve as the soundtrack for an upcoming film.

This isn’t the first time Childish Gambino supporters have gotten a preview of his new music, however. During a DJ set at the Gucci Cruise 2025 fashion show in London last month, KAYTRANADA debuted their upcoming collaborative track. It’s unclear if listeners can also expect to hear that on Bando Stone in The New World, or if it’ll be featured on a KAYTRANADA project. What do you think of Childish Gambino’s response to a fellow TikTok user criticizing his work? How does his unreleased song sound so far? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

A History Of Benzino & Coi Leray’s Turbulent Relationship

Benzino hasn’t always enjoyed the best relationship with his daughter and rapper Coi Leray. The pair have traded words on social media multiple times, but their issues got to a head in May when she said publicly that she wanted nothing to do with him. Coi’s outburst came after her father defended disgraced and imprisoned R&B legend R. Kelly. This isn’t the first time Coi Leray and Benzino have gone against each other. Their internal problems have played out publicly and seem never-ending. Here’s a history of the father-daughter pair’s turbulent relationship.

Coi Leray’s Childhood

Benzino, known for his rap career and co-ownership of Source Magazine, welcomed Coi in May 1997. Her mother remains unidentified and out of the spotlight. Growing up as the only girl among six children, Coi had a mixed experience of privilege and hardship. She described her childhood in an interview with Paper Magazine in 2019, revealing that after Benzino lost his job at Source Magazine and split from her mom, the family struggled financially. In another chat with Vlad TV, she recounted working at 16 and dropping out of school in the 10th grade, which humbled her.

January 2021: The Beginning Of Coi Leray & Benzino’s Feud

Coi and Benzino’s relationship hasn’t always been rocky. He gave her the platform to rise to stardom via his YouTube channel. Coi also previously spoke about how her father’s work ethic inspired her. Despite the praise, she trashed Benzino in her 2021 song, “No More Parties.” Coi rapped, “My daddy let me down, but I promise you, I won’t let up/I wanna say f**k that man but the s**t won’t make me better.”

A displeased Benzino responded via Instagram, lamenting how Coi tarnished his name for a storyline. He also claimed to be there for Coi all her life and said she was raised in a mansion. He said, “Coi had everything she wanted. I was flying Coi to meet every summer, every Spring Break, every—she was in Miami. I got her in a movie… Every Christmas, Thanksgiving, she’s with me.” However, Coi responded to her dad on social media by saying she was embarrassed to be his daughter. Not backing down, Benzino said he found Coi’s comments disrespectful, adding that her words can never be forgiven or forgotten. He also blamed her mom and the industry’s corruptive forces for her behavior.

April 2021: Father & Daughter Settle

A month after trading words with her father on social media, Coi offered an olive branch to her dad by tweeting that she loves him forever and always. However, he called her out, saying she was insincere. Father and daughter eventually settled their feud. Benzino shared his love for Coi in another post. He wrote, “I have one daughter on this earth and I love her dearly. All this drama is now over, please respect that and move on.” In another post, he wrote, “Love you more CC and I’m sorry, if you felt wasn’t there when you needed me I should’ve been and I truly apologize, no excuses.”

April 2022: More Tensions

Coi and Benzino feuded again ahead of the release of her debut album Trendsetter. Coi went on social media and claimed her dad was sending threats to her and her mom because she called him “broke” during an appearance on The Breakfast Club. She asked Benzino to grow up and stop holding on to the past.

Benzino also almost ruined his daughter’s biggest collaboration after he announced her collaboration with Nicki Minaj before it was official. He later apologized for his actions. After the album’s release, Benzino appeared to make fun of Coi’s low album sales and was called out for doing so. However, he claimed his Instagram page was hacked and wondered why people would believe he could make fun of his daughter. Meanwhile, Coi stayed calm and remained positive about her album’s credibility.

May 2022: Coi Leray Supports Her Dad’s Music Rival Eminem

Benzino’s longstanding feud with Eminem reignited in 2022 when he criticized the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for inducting Eminem. A day after her father’s comments, Coi voiced her support for Eminem. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she said, “I’m about love, equality, respect and forgiveness. I have nothing against Eminem, 25 years of my life all I know is he a very talented artist and actor ! (8 Mile was great).” Coi concluded, “Let’s build bridges and get over them before you burn the bridge and burn with it.” Benzino responded to his daughter’s post by asking her to honor her father and mother. He also wrote, “As far as burning bridges, there no bridge bigger than the one you burnt with your own blood.”

July 2023: Coi Leray and Benzino At Peace Again

Coi and her dad seemed to take positive steps to repair their relationship in 2023 when Benzino attended her set at Rolling Loud Miami. This was the first time he had seen her perform live. During an interview with People, Coi shared that Rihanna’s forgiveness of her own father inspired her to mend her relationship with Benzino.

November 2023: Coi Leray Says Her Dad Is Envious of Her Success

In November 2023, Coi appeared on Angie Martinez’s IRL Podcast. During the interview, Angie asked her how her dad deals with her success. “At first it was rocky, because I felt like he couldn’t handle my success. I felt like it came from an envious place, which is okay, cause he’s human, and it’s fine,” she said. “He’s one of those people that feel like ‘Yo, I still have a story to tell.’”

Benzino responded to those comments via social media. In a now-deleted Instagram post, he described her words as the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard. Benzino also blamed the internet and the industry for messing with the young generation’s minds. He expressed frustration at how Coi pushed a false narrative about him, describing it as sad and embarrassing. He also said Angie manipulated Coi to say what she said.

May 2024: Coi Leray Disowns Benzino

After months of silence, Coi caused a stir on social media on May 1, 2024, after she disowned her father. Initially, she posted, “I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on. I haven’t spoken to him in over a year and I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on.” Coi expressed that she doesn’t respect her dad’s decisions and urged people not to think of her when they see him. She emphasized that DNA does not make a family, but loyalty, respect, and love do. Coi also expressed her desire to have a kid and show them love one day.

Coi’s posts came after her father’s comments about R. Kelly. Benzino appeared on the We In Miami podcast and declared that R. Kelly should be given a second chance. He said, “Everyone deserves a second chance. I know that [Elvis Presley], a lot of motherf—-s was f—g with young girls.” Days after Coi’s posts, Benzino confirmed they weren’t on speaking terms.

June 2024: Benzino Brings Up Daughter’s Virginity While Defending R. Kelly Comments

Benzino caused more stir with his comments during an appearance on the Famous & Wealthy podcast. He said about his daughter, “She made a comment about the R. Kelly situation and said that she doesn’t want to have anything to do with me.” The 58-year-old recalled Coi’s interview with Matt Hoffa in which she revealed she lost her virginity at 14. Benzino claimed he didn’t know Coi lost her virginity at 14 and questioned her moral grounds for disowning him over his comments on R. Kelly. He said, “Since you did involve yourself, which is what you do, alright? How can you say that when you just said that you lost your virginity at 14? So is the guy that you lost your virginity at 14 [to], is he a pedophile?”

Benzino faced backlash as people on social media wondered how he could use his daughter’s virginity loss at 14 to defend his support for a convicted criminal. Coi has yet to respond to her father’s most recent comments. However, it is unlikely they will mend their broken relationship soon.

Gordo Claims “Honestly, Nevermind” Will One Day Be Revered Like “808s & Heartbreak”

All the way back in 2008, Kanye West released his 4th album 808s & Heartbreak. The project opted for neither the throwback rap style of West’s first two projects or the ultra-contemporary bling rap of his third album Graduation which it succeeded by just a year. Despite that shift, the album did have hits like “Heartless” and “Love Lockdown” but it was met with mixed reviews. In the years since, the record has been upheld as an influential early innovator of the trap stylings that would eventually go on to dominate the rap world. Through that lens the album has garnered much more critical acclaim in retrospect.

Now, producer Gordo thinks there’s another album that could follow a similar path to eventual acclaim. Honestly, Nevermind was met with much harsher criticism when Drake dropped the surprise shake up back in 2022. Fans called the project boring and forgettable despite his shift into an entire new style, house music. Like 808s, the album did produce some hits like “Jimmy Cooks,” “Sticky,” and “Massive.” During a recent interview with Complex, Gordo shared his full thoughts on why he thinks the album is destined to eventually achieve more acclaim than it currently gets. Check out what he had to say below.

Gordo On “Honestly, Nevermind” Becoming A Classic

He cited what he sees as the influence of Honestly, Nevermind after it dropped. “We all know that when Drake does something, everyone follows. Kanye does something, everyone follows. There’s a couple people who when they do something, everyone follows,” he began. “And that album, I feel like everyone ended up following, and people who don’t know house music and don’t know that type of vibe, especially the Afro-House vibe that was on that album, is the most popular sh*t out right now,” he elaborated.

What do you think of Gordo’s claims that Honestly, Nevermind will eventually be revered in the same way 808s & Heartbreak is? Do you agree with him that the house album turned out to be more influential than it currently gets credit for? Let us know in the comment section below.

Ice Spice Defends Controversial “Y2K!” Album Cover & David LaChapelle

Earlier this week, Ice Spice finally announced an official release date for her highly anticipated debut album, Y2K! The project is scheduled to drop on July 26 and is available for pre-save now. Alongside the exciting announcement, the Bronx-born performer unveiled cover art for the upcoming release. In it, the hitmaker is seen perched up against a wall alongside a New York City subway.

Unfortunately, social media users were quick to react to the artwork, and many of them were less than satisfied. While some took issue with the Graffiti-inspired being placed on a trash can, others weren’t feeling the inclusion of her signature. They’ve been sounding off about it online, and calling whoever was behind the cover into question. Of course, this person is David LaChapelle, an award-winning photographer and music video director.

Ice Spice Says Y2K! Cover “Means Everything” To Her

Luckily, it doesn’t appear as though the criticism fazes Ice Spice. Earlier today, she took to social media to praise LaChapelle amid the backlash, making it clear that she loves the cover art. “David LaChapelle is #Y2K! soooo sweet + legendary he didn’t even charge me cus he f*cks wit a real b*tch,” she captioned a photo of the two of them together. “Thank U for all the incredible art you’ve put out through the years this cover means everything to me & yes Y2K was placed on the trash can on purpose can u guess why?”

Her Twitter/X replies are now flooded with guesses about the album title placement, though it’s unclear whether or not she plans to reveal its meaning. What do you think of Ice Spice and David LaChapelle receiving backlash for her Y2K! cover art? Do you think it’s warranted, or are social media users simply overreacting? What about the femcee coming to LaChapelle’s defense and confirming that she loves the album cover? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z & More Appear As Their LEGO Renditions In Pharrell’s Upcoming Movie

Pharrell’s upcoming LEGO-created biopic Piece By Piece lands in theaters later this fall, and we just got our first trailer for the creative’s film. Moreover, the teaser showcases some mini-figure renditions of some of your favorite rappers, including Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and many more. Of course, people are reacting quite curiously to these versions, particularly K.Dot’s rendition since it doesn’t overtly look like him that much. But there’s only so far you can go with trying to make a real person seem like themselves in LEGO form. Maybe we should be giving more due credit here instead of expecting Bionicle levels of detail.

Jokes aside, this is looking like a really interesting, ingenious, and fun-loving film centered around Pharrell’s life and career, one of a couple of movies he’s got reportedly slated on the release block. That other project doesn’t have a title yet, though, and it’s also about his childhood in Virginia Beach. We’re not so sure on why the accomplished musician is putting out what seems like multiple biopics around the similar time, but he’s definitely worthy of documentation. After all, Piece By Piece‘s celebrity roster alone should speak to his reach, influence, talent, and level of earned respect in the game.

Piece By Piece Trailer: Watch

Elsewhere, many folks also found this notable thanks to the context offered by 2024’s biggest event so far: the rap beef. Kendrick Lamar and frequent Pharrell hater Drake recently had a great showdown, and one that had folks looking at the Neptunes producer and the Compton lyricist’s relationship a little differently. This is because studio footage of the two now carries a more overt anti-Drizzy tone. That’s just speculation and confirmation bias at play, but it’s still an interesting reevaluation.

Your Favorite Rappers (Plus Justin Timberlake) As LEGO Mini-Figures In Pharrell’s Upcoming Movie

Meanwhile, Pharrell’s got some more heat in store for the year, including a teased collaboration with NAV. With Piece By Piece and other exciting new moves on the way, maybe another biopic-style film wouldn’t be that unnecessary at all. Hopefully none of these endeavors stifle his versatile work ethic, though, After all, when you’ve got so much to handle in the fashion and business realms too, music and movies can be an easy distraction.

Janet Jackson Interpolates Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Into Her Live Show

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” is the song that just keeps spreading and spreading. Since debuting at number one on the Hot 100 last month it’s only been surpassed by one song. That was Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help”. The song has spread to all kinds of surprising places. It’s one of the big favorites to be the defining song of the summer. It’s popped up in the live set of multiple artists in recent weeks including numerous members of Kendrick’s former label Top Dawg Entertainment like Doechii and Isaiah Rashad.

Now another, even more surprising artist is slipping the mega-hit into their live set and doing it in a pretty subtle way. Videos are making the rounds online of a recent Janet Jackson show where attentive fans noticed a familiar song. Of course, it’s nestled into another familiar song, Jackson’s own smash hit “Nasty.” During the breakdown of the song, you can hear her slip the chorus of “Not Like Us” into the backing track which some fans were able to catch on video. Check out the clip of Jackson’s newest show where the song appears below.

“Not Like Us” Slipped Into Janet Jackson’s Set

Fans may get the opportunity to see Kendrick Lamar perform the song himself later this month. He just announced a new “Ken & Friends” show taking place in Los Angeles later this month on June 19. The song has broken multiple records on Spotify including some previously held by Drake. The song surpassed Drake and Lil Baby’s “Girls Want Girls” for the most streams in a 24-hour span by any rap song. In total the song has generated more than 275 million streams on Spotify already.

What do you think of Janet Jackson interpolating “Not Like Us” into her live performance of “Nasty?” Are you surprised that Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track is one of the biggest hits in all of music right now? Let us know in the comment section below.

Jelly Roll Explained Why He Hasn’t Toured Overseas And Says It’s A ‘Legal Puzzle’

jelly roll
Getty Image

The career of rapper turned country star Jelly Roll has been the definition of a “glow up.” The Tennessee native saw his public fame increase dramatically just a few years ago after he released the song “Son Of A Sinner” in 2021. Since then, he’s been hotly demanded in the country music space, performing at this year’s Stagecoach Festival and winning a bunch of trophies at the 2024 CMT Awards. But for all those achievements, there’s still one thing he hasn’t been able to do: perform overseas.

With his Beautifully Broken Tour launching late this summer, Jelly Roll explained his international touring dilemma to an astonished Jon Bon Jovi in Interview magazine. When Bon Jovi asked, “Have you taken it overseas yet?” Jelly Roll confessed, “Not yet. I’m so excited. We’re figuring out the final pieces of some legal puzzles for me to get overseas.”

He expressed optimism that it’d work out, explaining, “America has finally agreed to let me leave and give me a passport, but some countries won’t let me come because of my felonies. We’re working on that. I think it’s going to work in my favor.” The Tennessean has spent time in jail for armed robbery and possession of marijuana; many countries have rules that deny visas to felons.

He’s not the first hip-hop artist to go through issues getting a visa. 21 Savage notably could not leave the country due to his ongoing efforts to secure citizenship, only recently acquiring his green card with the help of Drake, of all people. Hopefully, Jelly Roll’s past won’t hold him back too long from his bright future.
