It appears as though Walker likes to revisit the project just as much as supporters do, as evidenced by her latest Instagram post. She shared a clip earlier today, which shows her pretending to snort a powdery substance, with the album cover inserted on top. “Love this album forever stream ‘Over it,’” she captioned the post alongside a heart emojis.
While it’s clear that she was only messing around, and that the powder was likely just makeup, the video has prompted mixed reactions from her followers. Most found humor in it, and are reflecting on some of their own favorite music by Walker in the comments. Others are upset that she joked about something as serious as drug use. “So this why I’m addicted to this album!!!!” one Instagram user quips. Someone else says, “Careful what we make jokes about.” She appears to be unfazed despite potentially raising eyebrows with her post, in typical Walker fashion.
She seemed similarly unbothered earlier this month when she took to social media again to shut down critics’ negative comments about her body. “We have to release these unrealistic body expectations, I’ve had 3 children. #wombpolice,” she declared. Camila Cabello isn’t the person one typically goes to for a hot take on the latest rap world happenings, but it’s 2024: anything’s possible. Moreover, she recently shared her thoughts on the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef that has dominated this year’s pop culture cycle in magnanimous ways. However, the singer’s assessment of the whole matter has little to do with who had the better bars and songs, who had the better strategy, or what either artist should focus on in the aftermath. Instead, it was more of a comment on how these two MCs could probably get along and the annoyance that comes with hearing smack about a colleague.
“Drake is such a delight,” Camila Cabello reportedly expressed. “It’s so frustrating to see people talk about someone you know in a negative way. You’re like, ‘Dang, if only you guys could just have dinner or something.’” While there are no holes in this statement, a lot of folks might not give it the time of day because Cabello collaborated with the Toronto superstar on a track off her new album C,XOXO and even gave him a solo track on it to boot. Of course, Camila Cabello is far from the first person that’s late to the party on the whole Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef hot take extravaganza. Honestly, we doubt that fans will stop debating this at any point during the year… partly because there are still new additions to the saga. As for these C,XOXO collabs, they don’t have any conspiracy theories attached to them at press time, but we’re not ruling out sub speculation about a bar or two down the line. Either way you fall, you’re not getting over this yet.

Folks have discussed Drizzy’s biracial status for over a decade, and K.Dot has always found it hard to be the biggest rapper trying to say something deeper about the industry and systems that he found success in. On that last note, though, Brand Nubian’s Lord Jamar agrees with the Compton lyricist’s view that his Toronto rival’s use of the n-word is “cringeworthy.”
Moreover, Lord Jamar posited that Kendrick Lamar never said that Drake can’t say the n-word: just that it’s cringe. He thinks that Aubrey Graham uses too many accents and voices in his music for his use of the word to come off as genuine, calling out “all these different Drakes that this motherf***er comes out with.” “The only reason why he kind of gets away with it is that his father’s Black,” Jamar added later on. Not only that, but he pointed out that the OVO boss grew up with his white mother, not Dennis Graham.

Furthermore, Lord Jamar suggested that Drake did not engage with that word in the same way that biracial folks that grew up in a Black environment did. “That s**t is catchy, he do make some catchy f***ing s**t,” he conceded, albeit in a way that theorized on why he “gets away” with this. Overall, it’s a very complex issue that has much deeper roots than just hip-hop. But it’s important to understand that attacks on the “Tuscan Leather” MC can be misguidedly discriminatory, invalidating, and exclusionary, and that Kendrick Lamar’s criticism of his use of the n-word is not a simple matter of being biracial.
Meanwhile, folks will sadly always clown Drake for whatever reason, and it’s usually not as deep as this. But there’s a lot of nuance that every party involved in this specific breakdown is missing out on. As such, it’s key for media consumers to see both sides of the argument and reach a more comprehensive understanding of the matter, especially if they are not Black themselves. Until then, these words will inspire many more debates like this.
Charleston White is someone who’s become known for his questionable takes on a variety of different topics, and now, Kendrick Lamar is one of them. During a recent interview, the internet personality weighed in on Kendrick bringing rival gangs together for his upcoming “Not Like Us” music video. While the rapper was widely praised for doing so, White thinks it was only for optics, and not a real attempt to promote peace in his community.
“Kendrick did that for a video shoot,” he claimed. “He didn’t do that to bring n****s together. Them n****s just found something to dance to.” White also went on to argue that Kendrick’s effort to promote up-and-coming artists at “The Pop Out” fell flat. “They ain’t going nowhere. Ain’t nobody finna to listen to no up-and-coming L.A. artists, but L.A. artists in their neighborhood. Don’t nobody want to hear that sh*t,” he said.
Elsewhere in the conversation, White made it clear that he supported Drake amid his viral rap beef with Kendrick. He also insisted that he’s a far better artist overall, and claimed that it’s not even a close call. “Let me just say this,” he began. “Drake a way better rapper. I know Drake’s songs, I ain’t never heard a n***a in Texas pull up bumping Kendrick’s sh*t or nothing. I was just going against the grain. Let’s be clear. Kendrick can’t compare unless you like twisting your fingers up like the r******* people. That’s the only way you gonna like Kendrick, you’ve got to be r*******.”

Over the past few years, Lil Wayne has spent a lot of time thinking about who he considers to be the top five rappers of all time. In 2020, the list featured Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., Noreaga, Cam’ron, and Missy Elliott. In January 2023, his list changed to include Jay-Z, Biggie, Missy, Goodie Mob, and UGK. That August, he again discussed the topic, and his top five remained the same.
Recently, though, he again spouted off a top-5 list, and there were some changes. Jay, Missy, and Biggie all remained, but two different acts made the list this time. Wayne said, “My top 5 rappers of all time are Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Eminem, um… The Notorious B.I.G. — oh, and this is no specific order right here — and Drizzy.”

Notably, the updated list includes Drake, but not Kendrick Lamar, despite many people believing that Lamar came out on top of his recent feud with Drake. Given how flexible Wayne seems to be with his top 5, though, Kendrick could end up making the cut if you ask Wayne again in a few months.
Though it doesn’t appear on his latest album One Of Wun, Gunna’s “Bittersweet” couldn’t be more representative of his current era. With somber guitar strums as the backdrop, Gunna reflects on life’s past dealings, his reluctant acceptance of it, and how it all changed his outlook on fame, optimism towards better days, ability to trust, and much more. If the Atlanta rapper’s 2023 album A Gift & A Curse was a comeback album of sorts, re-establishing Gunna as a beloved artist and granting him a song of the summer title thanks to “F*kumean,” then One Of Wun solidifies and cements the artist that emerged from the YSL RICO trial fire which changed the way many fans and collaborators viewed the rap star.
Gunna approaches the record like a winter breeze – dry, straightforward, and undeterred by the circumstances. “Got me a taste of this fame, it was sweet, now it’s bitter,” he quips on “Bittersweet” before expounding on this point with lines like “Careful with your choices ’cause you can’t make it twice” and “N****s show they hate before they do something positive.” It’s only fitting that Gunna’s now-concluded The Bittersweet Tour shares a name with the somber pre-One Of Wun single. The month-long run of shows proved that Gunna’s status as a top-level hip-hop figure was still intact despite the snitching allegations he weathered and has continued to since his winter 2022 prison release.
Gunna was supposed to celebrate these moments with the same cast of peers-turned-brothers that he was often beside from the underground days of Drip Season 2 to his breakout with Drip Season 3 to his chart-topping moments with DS4EVER. Nowadays, these names, which include Lil Baby, Young Thug, Lil Durk, Future, and others are not only nowhere to be found beside Gunna, but they’ve also seemingly taken a stance next to Young Thug and the snitching allegations lodged against Gunna. These, among other things, are where the bittersweet feelings Gunna speaks from are rooted in. Just recently, after Gunna confirmed that he is still signed to YSL Records, Young Thug, the label’s founder, seemingly responded in a tweet, writing, “whateva wham say goes.” “Wham” is a nickname for Lil Baby which led to fans resurfacing a video of Baby at a music video shoot where it appears that he dissed Gunna. “N****s taking pleas, I know that Slime ain’t happy,” Baby raps in the video. Everything changed for the Atlanta star, just as things were getting good for him. If that isn’t bittersweet, I don’t know what is.
Back against the wall and with resources thinner than usual, Gunna came back swinging with A Gift & A Curse and One Of Wun, projects that impressed and showcased his ability to stand above adversity and triumph above critics. First-time collaborations with the likes of Normani, Tyla, IDK, Leon Bridges, Victor Thompson, and Sarz replaced his work with once-frequent collaborators mentioned earlier. DS4EVER teased this, but Gunna’s work with these artists added a new layer of diversity to his artistry. His style is unique and present in enough ways to be paired with artists in different lanes. Additionally, it proved that Gunna is a sought-after artist who will not fade into the background anytime soon.
The Bittersweet Tour is proof of this, too. Though the tour is highly similar to his A Gift and A Curse 2023 one-off shows in New York and Los Angeles, respectively, bringing these performances nationwide allowed fans who stuck by Gunna to see that a new era for the rapper is in progress. Furthermore, Gunna gave attendees a slew of memorable moments to walk out with by the end of the night. There was the silky smooth pairing of “South To West” and “On One Tonight” tied together by a satisfying transition, the performances of beloved YSL collaborations like “Hot,” “Ski,” “Pushin P,” “Oh Okay,” and more, and the explosive transition between “F*kumean” and “Rodeo Dr” brought to life for everyone who loved the experience it offered on A Gift & A Curse. There was something for every Gunna fan on The Bittersweet Tour.
After a string of electric performances, Gunna ends The Bittersweet Tour performances with a period of reflection through performances of his more introspective songs. Accounts of drug addictions which led to health scares and his current healthy lifestyle are given through “Livin Wild.” Next is “Time Reveals, Be Careful What You Wish For,” a two-part track that begins as a rags-to-riches tale for Gunna, tied with the newfound realization of life’s true meaning, before winding into a cautionary tale about the perils of fame. “Who You Foolin,” a fan-favorite, follows as it disposes of Gunna’s naivety and highlights his longtime experience in the game. Finally, the night closes with Victor Thompson & Ehis ‘D’ Greatest’s “Blessings” which Gunna remixed last year. The record is anchored by a line the trio sings together: “Everything I’ve been wanting, manifesting for my life.” Gunna has everything he’s worked towards attaining for the better part of a decade, and though it was nearly taken from him, it’s overcoming these hardships that allow you carry a title like “One Of Wun.” Gunna is that, and though it’s bittersweet, it’s still good enough to relish in. A smile and a wave goodbye to fans in attendance at the The Bittersweet Tour proves that he’s doing just that.
Nearly five years have passed since Chance The Rapper released his last album, The Big Day. But fans’ wait for a follow-up may be coming to an end very soon, if the Windy City rapper’s latest estimate of his new album’s status is accurate. Whether it is or isn’t, though, it can be said that it was very specific.
Chance first began teasing the new album, Star Line Gallery, in 2022. Since then, he’s gotten either “83,” “83.5,” or “82.7” percent of the way done, according to a new interview with Complex. Asked about the album’s progress, he initially said 85 percent, but then backtracked, joking, “That’s a little generous. I’ma say 83. 83.5, 82.7. We’re living in the project right now. The thing is, no one has the attention span for what the conversation needs to be. So, I’m piecing it together and living in it with my fans… so I’m really enjoying the process time.”
The process so far has included a slow but steady stream of new songs including Chance’s “Writing Exercises,” “The Highs And The Lows” with Joey Badass, the Afrofusion experiment “Yah Know,” and more recently, the singles “Buried Alive,” “Together,” and “Stars Out.”
With Chance’s single releases becoming more frequent and his album at least over 80 percent done, Star Line Gallery could be on the way sooner rather than later (even if it did technically miss his target release window).
Today, Megan Thee Stallion finally unveiled her anxiously awaited new album, Megan. The project has already managed to make waves, as fans unpack rumored Nicki Minaj jabs, anime references, and more. Meg revealed that the project would revolve around concepts of “renewal and rebirth” ahead of the release, which it certainly does, among other things.
One track fans are especially hard at work dissecting is “Down Stairs DJ,” which is among the most NSFW cuts of the album. On it, the Texas-born performer raps about masturbating, and she doesn’t hold back in the slightest. Cabello has seemingly been watching, and she doesn’t love how Drake gets treated. People would like Drake if they got to know him, she reckons.
In a recent interview with The Times (as NME notes), Cabello called Drake “such a delight,” adding, “It’s so frustrating to see people talk about someone you know in a way that is negative. You’re like, ‘Dang, if only you guys could just have dinner or something.’”
Meanwhile, in a May interview, Cabello spoke about working with Drake, saying, “He’s the f*cking GOAT, so it felt like shooting for the stars. I showed him the album when I felt comfortable enough and he really liked it. [The feature] came out of a non-transactional place. He had this idea of a song called ‘Hot Uptown,’ and it just felt like I was in the city. I was in Miami.”
