Too Short Declares Kendrick Lamar The Winner: “We Can Retire Gangsta Drake”

Too Short says Kendrick Lamar emerged victorious from his viral beef with Drake and loved the way the West Coast stood up for him. He discussed the feud with Billboard while walking the red carpet at the BET Awards on Sunday night.

“I like the way a lot of people stood up and rode with the homie [Lamar] in this one because it seemed like he was supposed to be the underdog,” Short said while referring to his fellow West Coast native. He added: “I think he held his own pretty good. I think that in this situation… none of us would dispute that this battle was amongst two really good artists.” Despite adding that both Lamar and Drake are  “two great artists,” he suggested  “gangsta Drake,” is over but “R&B Drake” is still “for the ladies.”

From there, Short recalled the “most beautiful woman in the world” getting him hip to Drake back in 2007-2008. “The ladies are good judges of what good music is, they dictate a lot of stuff in the industry, so I say kudos to Drake cuz I wouldn’t have never knew about your music if it wasn’t for the baddest of the baddies,” he said. He recalled listening to the Comeback Season mixtape in particular. After the interview, Short performed his iconic song, “Blow The Whistle,” on the red carpet. Moneybagg Yo Teases A Possible Country Project After Success Of Morgan Wallen Collab

Moneybagg Yo is ready to don a cowboy hat and spurs it appears after showing some interest in going full country for a project. This news come from an interview surrounding the success of “WHISKEY WHISKEY” with Billboard at the 2024 BET Awards. For those who are not aware, this song lands on the Memphis rapper’s recent album SPEAK NOW. It sees him work with country star Morgan Wallen, someone who has been doing his own crossing over working with the likes of Lil Durk. These two genres melding together continues to grow more and more common, so seeing this trend is not all that surprising. Overall, it works pretty well, and “WHISKEY WHISKEY” is no exception.

The album cut debuted at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it is the only song to chart from it. Additionally, Moneybagg’s project is doing well too, sliding into 13th on the Hot 200. But due to him and Morgan Wallen displaying some solid chemistry he sees the vision and would not be opposed to dropping a country album or EP in the near future. The veteran hitmaker also mentioned to the publication that him and Morgan had been texting very often and that the latter was encouraging him to dive into this space.

Moneybagg Yo Is Down To Dabble In Country Music

Furthermore, he has been hearing from a lot of other country mainstays since the release of “WHISKEY WHISKEY”. Yo claims they are down to collaborate, but before that happens, he still has some ideas he wants to tackle first. “After these next two albums I’m fixing to drop before the summer is over, I think after that, going into the winter or something, I think I’m going to do a country album, a country EP or something”, Yo revealed. He did say during the rollout of SPEAK NOW that he was going to drop an R&B tape soon, so clearly it is a great time to be a fan of his right now.

What are your thoughts on Moneybagg Yo having interest in making a country project? Do you think this is something that he should genuinely pursue, why or why not? Have you been messing with “WHISKEY WHISKEY” from his recent album SPEAK NOW? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Donald Glover And Tyler, The Creator Are Making Exceptional Black Art (Regardless Of What The BET Awards Say)

During last night’s BET Awards ceremony, Donald Glover — who was there to present the award for Album Of The Year — took a bit of a digression during his time onstage to call out the show for never nominating him. Indeed, it’s one of the first times the network has even acknowledged Glover’s existence, and the fact he was also allowed to plug his quirky new film Bando Stone And The New World is probably a testament to the concessions BET’s programmers had to make to soothe his bruised ego over the years of neglect.

“This isn’t personal, but I just feel like I should have more BET awards,” Glover said. “I’m serious. It’s the Black Entertainment Television Awards. How much more entertaining do I have to do? Because it’s just the math of the fact. It doesn’t really make sense. I have more Grammys than Will Smith, which makes no sense, but I have the same amount of BET awards as Sam Smith.” Smith and Glover both have one BET Award each; Glover won Best Music Video in 2019 for “This is America”, while Smith won the 2015 award for Best New Artist. I don’t know if you noticed, but Sam Smith… also isn’t Black.

Glover joked that he’d be willing to remake BET Saturday afternoon mainstay Baby Boy if it would get him more recognition from the network. “I’ll have Jonathan Majors put me in a headlock, shave my head, I’ll do it,” he said, referring to a scene in which Ving Rhames puts Tyrese Gibson in a headlock during a heated domestic dispute in the film.

Social media users on Twitter noted that Glover has kind of a point — he should not have the same number of BET Awards nominations as Sam Smith, regardless of whether he and Will Smith have the same amount of Grammys — and drew parallels to another recent addition to the BET canon, Tyler The Creator. The Hawthorne, California native also went unacknowledged by the network until 2021, when he was honored with a (the admittedly vaguely titled) Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award. During an interview about the award, he, too, acknowledged that he felt he “wasn’t accepted by that audience,” but that he held a deep reverence for the network growing up.

“I was so hype to perform at the BET Awards,” Tyler admitted. “I just never felt like my style of music would ever have been, not even appreciated, but allowed on there. And because of that, I would mock it. It was like a defense mechanism because I felt like I wasn’t accepted by that audience. But when they asked me this year, man, I was enthralled. I was so happy.” At first glance, it does appear that artists like Glover and Tyler contrast starkly from the usual BET fare. When they were both in the target demographic for BET’s old video countdown show, 106 & Park, they likely didn’t see themselves reflected in the usual rotation of artists like Soulja Boy, 50 Cent, or Hurricane Chris.

But over the years, they’ve each garnered mainstream acclaim for their creative works, which have always celebrated their Blackness and drawn extensively from deep cultural roots — even if they didn’t reflect the stereotypical looks and concerns promoted by not just BET, but mainstream depictions of Blackness in media in general.

Glover’s groundbreaking work in music and television includes the funk-soul revival album Awaken, My Love! and his paradigm-shifting dramedy Atlanta, which often addressed ongoing current events and made references to Black lifestyle deep cuts like the “haunted” Lake Rainier in his native Georgia. Meanwhile, Tyler’s multihyphenate takeover of hip-hop, fashion, and animation with albums like Igor, shows like The Jellies!, and his history-making collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Louis Vuitton, centered Blackness and posited a broader spectrum of possibilities for it. You can’t tell me you couldn’t see Carlton Banks decked out in Tyler’s preppy Louis pieces. There are all kinds of alternative expressions of Blackness, and neither artist allowed the fact they didn’t see those expressions on TV stop them from expressing themselves in full.

While it’s clear that BET’s definition of notable Black art is expanding — a net good for a network whose narrow typecasting of Black art has been criticized in the past — neither Glover nor Tyler should ever have fretted. They’ve been two of the most important Black artists of their generation all along. From the beginning, both artists have presented a dazzling, wide-ranging perspective of what Black art can be. Beyond BET, we would all benefit from recognizing those talents — and the talents of others who go against the grain — and letting Black art be more than what we’ve already seen.

Khalid has impressed recently with the singles “Adore U” and “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me.” Now, we know the fate of those songs: They’ll be included on Sincere, the new album (Khalid’s third) that was announced today, July 1. The project is set for release on August 2.

In a statement, Khalid says of the album, “Sincere is a combination of my life experiences, it takes inspiration from conversations that I have had with my fans, supporters, and the people that love me. When I listen back to this project, I hear a sound that’s so unique and represents me at my best. This album is me at 26, continuing to evolve with the knowledge that I have garnered throughout the years.”

The Young Thug Trial Has Reportedly Been Put On Hold Until A Recusal Judgment Is Made

Last month, the racketeering trial against YSL and Young Thug was sent into disarray as Judge Ural Glanville had Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, held in criminal contempt, sentencing him to a month of weekends in jail alongside his client. While that sentence was suspended while Steel appeals the decision, now the whole proceeding has reportedly been put on hold, as another judge must now review a recusal motion filed against Glanville by the defense.

The defense moved to have Judge Glanville recuse himself a couple of times in this case, but he’s refused on every occasion. On June 18, he denied the most recent motion, which stemmed from a secret meeting between the judge and a witness for the prosecution — the same meeting that prompted Steel’s supposed contempt of court when the defense attorney demanded the minutes from the meeting and refused to tell Glanville how he found out about it.

According to WSB-TV Atlanta, the case will now be on hold until another judge has made a decision on whether Glanville can continue to preside over the case, which has been underway for 100 days today.

Young Thug is accused of being the ringleader of a criminal organization, YSL (Young Slime Life), which has been credited with a wave of crimes across Atlanta, including armed robbery, drug trafficking, and attempted murder.

Rick Ross Gets Ripped To Shreds By Tia Kemp After Viral Attack In Canada

Over the weekend, Rick Ross ran into some trouble after his set at the Ignite Music Festival in Vancouver. Reportedly, he instructed his DJ to play Kendrick Lamar’s hit track “Not Like Us,” prompting some tension among attendees. In various clips making their rounds online, he’s seen getting punched in the face, prompting his crew to jump in. The men who went after Ross are rumored to be Drake fans, though this is still unconfirmed at the time of writing.

As countless social media users and peers share their reactions to the unexpected debacle, Ross’ ex-wife Tia Kemp also decided to jump in, roasting the father of her child on Instagram Live. “They f*ckin’ his fat a** up,” she says in a clip from the stream. “I’m glad they smacked the sh*t out yo big a**.”

Tia Kemp Reacts To Rick Ross’ Vancouver Altercation

Kemp continued, also mocking Ross relentlessly for what she saw as his failed attempt to fight back. This doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, considering the nature of their relationship these days. Nonetheless, some viewers think she should have at least an inkling of sympathy for her former partner. Fortunately, he doesn’t appear to be too fazed by the shocking incident, based on some of his latest social media posts.

As footage of the fight circulated earlier today, he took to his Instagram Story to send a brief message to his followers. “Vancouver was fun, til next time,” he wrote. He also took to the comments section of The Shade Room to joke that he thought his attackers were simply “bottle service boys,” making light of the bizarre incident. What do you think of Rick Ross’ ex Tia Kemp roasting him for getting jumped in Canada last night? Has she gone too far or not? Young Thug Trial: Judge Puts Proceedings On Hold As Recusal Motion Goes Under Review

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville has put the trial for Young Thug and YSL on hold after the defense filed a motion for him to recuse himself over a controversial ex-parte meeting with the prosecutors and star witness Kenneth Copeland. Glanville says the trial will not resume until a separate judge reviews the case and decides whether he should continue on the bench. Additionally, he’ll be releasing a full transcript of the meeting with Copeland “so everyone will have a chance to look at it.”

The move came as a surprise to both sides of the case. When the prosecution asked how long this will take, Glanville replied: “I don’t know. I don’t have anything to do with that.” The criminal trial has already become the longest-running in Georgia history, going on 18 months with no end in sight.

Young Thug’s Lawyer, Brian Steel, Arrives At Court

Brian Steel, attorney for rapper Young Thug, arrives at the Fulton County Courthouse on November 27, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. Opening statements are set to begin in the case against 31 year old US rapper Young Thug and 28 others, who are facing a racketeering indictment accusing the defendants of a number of offenses that support an overarching conspiracy charge, including murder, assault, carjacking, drug dealing, and theft. As for the controversial ex-parte meeting that caused the latest stall, Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, became irate in court, earlier this month, after learning it took place. He accused the judge of working with the prosecution to allegedly coerce Copeland into testifying. In turn, Glanville placed him under arrest for contempt of court and took offense at the suggestion.

Boosie Badazz Has An “I Told You So” Moment After Rick Ross Vs. Drake Fight

Boosie Badazz has let the world know how he feels when it comes to rap beefs. In fact, he has made it abundantly clear, constantly repeating the same mantra. That being that nothing good comes from in it and that they can lead to devastating violence. Perhaps one of the most legendary rants from the Louisiana rapper happened just three months ago surrounding this topic. “EVERYBODY GASSING UP RAP BEEF SMH ALL EXCITED SAYING THIS HIP HOP. WELL EVERYONE N THE CREW NOT GO SEE IT THAT WAY. N WHEN IT POP OFF ‘IT REALLY GOES DOWN. SO WHEN SOMEONE FROM ONE OF THESE CREWS DIE, DONT SAY THEY ST*PID SMH GO SUPPORT THEM N COURT LIKE YALL SUPPORTED THE RAP BEEF”. Well, those words almost were reality for Boosie after Rick Ross and his crew got into a heated fight over the weekend.

It went down at the Ignite Music Festival in Vancouver after DJ Sam Sneak at the event played “Not Like Us”. There are talks that Ross was the one who asked him to play the Drake diss track. That is what supposedly led to the brawl. The former and his crew were beat down pretty ruthlessly, with Sam Sneak allegedly being knocked out cold. On top of that this entire beef has also led to people being shot up outside of Drake’s house earlier this year.

It seems that this fight the other night was the final straw for Boosie Badazz to tell everyone teasing him for his take “I told you so”. He reacted to the news on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “THIS WORLD GO START LISTENING TO MY WORDS ONE DAY SMH #ispeakthetruth”. 50 Cent is another rapper to speak out about the violence, although he was doing it more so to tease Rick Ross about getting pummeled. “LMAO 🤣 THE GREAT ESCAPE! MEEKA CALL ☎ THE CHASERS, THEY ARE CHASING ME. 😆 LOL”, the G-Unit boss wrote on IG.

What are your thoughts on Boosie Badazz’s reaction to the viral Rick Ross fight? Does he have a point with his previous comments about rap beefs, why or why not? Drake Didn’t Win Any BET Awards Despite Having The Most Nominations This Year

Drake is still at the top of the hip-hop game, and despite having the most nominations at the 2024 BET Awards with seven nods, the fact that he didn’t win any of them isn’t really a strong indicator of any waning success or all that important at the end of the day. Well, that would be the case if rap fans didn’t have a clear example to clown him over when it comes to this year’s awards concerning his big beef. Kendrick Lamar beat Drizzy in the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist category, an outcome that many folks online seem to agree with.

Regardless of what you think of the battle and who won it, it’s pretty wild that the Toronto superstar dropped two projects over the last year and lost to someone with… what, five or six songs including features? Nevertheless, Drake fans can rest easy. Award shows aren’t the end of the world, and this is just a result of this rap beef taking over every other pop culture narrative (the 6ix God didn’t lose his awards because of the battle; just because other nominees got more pull this time around). We’ll see whether his new collabs with Camila Cabello go the distance next year.

Drake At A Houston Rockets Game

Drake BET Awards Lost Kendrick Lamar Nominations Hip Hop News

Also, we doubt that Drake cares at all about this. In fact, he’s probably feeling very giddy and vindicated right now because, as he lost his nominations at the 2024 BET Awards, one of his big rivals right now learned a lesson about playing with him in his country. For those unaware, a group of OVO die-hards recently attacked Rick Ross and his crew for attempting to play Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” at a Vancouver, Canada festival. Everyone involved in this heated feud has trolled a whole lot during it, but these folks learn time and time again that online and on sight are two very different dynamics.

Meanwhile, Drake is still pretty mad about the beef. He’s embracing many of Kendrick’s disses against him online, claiming Spotify validated fake streams for “Not Like Us,” and there are rumors that he might drop another diss track when that West Coast banger’s video drops. The tides are shifting, the game is figuring itself out, but we doubt that some BET Awards losses will be the end of the story. You can never count The Boy out, even during arguably his lowest point in public discource.
