Lil Wayne Admits Drake Made Him Change Verses ‘A Billion Times’ When They Worked Together

Earlier this week, Lil Wayne celebrated the tenth anniversary of his ninth album, The Carter IV. It’s an important one in the rapper’s career as it’s the first he released after serving an eight-month prison sentence for illegal possession of a weapon. A decade later, he rung in the anniversary by hopping on Twitter to answer questions from fans.

It was during this Q&A that Wayne revealed how often he changes his verses when working with Drake, whom he signed to Young Money more than a decade ago. “Everything Drake send back, I always have to go back and re-record,” Wayne said in a video response. “It’s always too hot. It’s always because he says something at the end that make me be like, ‘Oh, I could make more of the song and capitalize on what he just said.’ I have changed my verse a billion times because of Drake and that’s always the person.”

He added, “It’s always because he says something that sounds a whole lot more interesting and unique and I feel like we need to capitalize on whatever the hell he said.”

Wayne and Drake have collaborated several times, the most recent being “Seeing Green,” with Nicki Minaj, and “BB King Freestyle.”

Lil Baby And Jackboy Join Forces To Open A Hospital In Haiti

Last month, Haiti was hit with a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that caused more than 2,000 deaths and left over 12,000 people injured, with more than 300 people still missing. Since then, a number of celebrities have stepped forward to contribute what they can for relief efforts towards the country. The latest are rappers Lil Baby and Jackboy, who announced they plan on building a hospital in Haiti.

Recently Jackboy visited the country and spoke about what he saw. He revealed that many patients were forced to stay outside of the hospital because there wasn’t enough space for them inside. This pushed him to commit to building a new hospital in the area. He also announced that he would donate $100,000 towards relief efforts.

“I just walked through a hospital in Haiti & all the patients sleeping outside,” Jackboy wrote on his Instagram Story according to Complex. “I personally handed every single last 1 of them a envelope full of money but fr fr I feel like that ain’t enough…Who want to go half with me & get a hospital built it’s not really that much especially if we using dollars.”
Shortly after Jackboy shared the post on Instagram, Lil Baby replied and wrote, “I’m in.” It’s here that Lil Baby committed to helping Jackboy build the hospital in Haiti.

42 Dugg Marks The Deluxe Release Of ‘Free Dem Boyz’ With The High-Speed ‘Bestfriends’ Video

Building on the success of his breakout mixtape Free Dem Boyz, Detroit rapper and XXL Freshman 42 Dugg maintained his momentum with a deluxe edition re-release of Free Dem Boyz last week, adding seven new songs including features from Lil Durk, Moneybagg Yo, and Nardo Wick while shuffling some of the sequencing to make for a smoother ride.

Today, Dugg marked the release of the deluxe edition by sharing the high-speed video for one of the album’s original standout tracks, “Bestfriends.” Directed by DrewFilmedIt, the video captures an exuberant Dugg as he shops for jewelry, puts the pedal to the metal in his brand-new cars, and holds court at a neighborhood gathering, enjoying the attention of his community and the fruits of his newfound success.

Free Dem Boyz, which debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 in May after its release on May 21, gave Dugg his first top-10 placement on the albums chart behind hyperactive singles like “4 Da Gang” featuring Roddy Ricch and “Maybach” featuring Future and the continued support of post-release singles such as “Turnest N**** In The City” and “Rose Gold” featuring EST Gee, 42 Dugg’s fellow breakout star and compatriot on Yo Gotti’s CMG record label. Dugg is also headed on tour — more information for that is available here.

Meek Mill And LIl Uzi Vert Pop Wheelies And Flash Cash In The Gritty ‘Blue Notes 2’ Video

Philadelphian rappers Lil Uzi Vert and Meek Mill join forces to pop wheelies and flash cash in the video for their gritty new collaboration, “Blue Notes 2.” The latest addition to Meek’s growing collection of stylish collaborations over the past several weeks, the “Blue Notes 2” video taps into one of Philly’s favorite pastimes, with the two rappers and their cohorts racing ATVs through the streets at night while being trailed by a helicopter spotlight. The beat, produced by brothers Nick Papz and Xander, lays a moody, noodling guitar over roaring drums to reflect the gritty feel of the Philly rappers’ boastful, rapid-fire verses.

“Blue Notes 2” follows Meek’s prior releases “War Stories” and “Sharing Locations” with Lil Baby and Lil Durk, building momentum on his long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s Championships. In the interim, he’s complained about blogs only covering the “goofy sh*t” he does, so this string of releases may go a long way toward ensuring the focus returns to his music rather than the antics that have seemingly pursued him in the last couple of years.

Rico Nasty Gleefully Counts Her Money In The Electric ‘Buss’ Video

Rico Nasty‘s debut album Nightmare Vacation is less than a year old, but lately, it feels as though she’s already building up to its inevitable follow-up. Within the last two months, she’s released a pair of polished singles, “Magic” and “Buss,” and just weeks after releasing the video for the former, she’s already back with a new video for “Buss.”

The video brings plenty of visual flair to its rather plain concept, embellishing Rico’s frantic performances with sizzling neon lights and sending bright bolts of vibrantly colored electricity shooting across the screen and around Rico’s body. Whatever it is she happens to be working toward, it would appear to line up with the version of Rico first introduced on her candy-coated Sugar Trap mixtapes, returning to the synth-heavy, SoundCloud-friendly production style and cocky, straightforward raps she used to cross over in the first place — as opposed to the more experimental, hyperpop-laced material on her album.

In the meantime, she’s been semi-enjoying the “bittersweet” moments of motherhood, such as sending her five-year-old off to kindergarten, and contributing to her friend IDK’s No Label Academy at Harvard University.

Elton John Announces A Collaborative Album Featuring Lil Nas X, Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, And More

Elton John has spent a lot of time working with other artists over the past year or so, and now he’s commemorating that era with The Lockdown Sessions, a new album consisting of collaborations. While the project, which is set for release on October 22, is billed as a new album, it is like a compilation in ways, as it features previously released songs on which John is featured, like Gorillaz’s “The Pink Phantom” and Miley Cyrus’ cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters.”

Aside from the aforementioned, the album features collaborations with Brandi Carlile, Charlie Puth, Dua Lipa, Eddie Vedder, Lil Nas X, Nicki Minaj, Rina Sawayama, SG Lewis, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Surfaces, Years & Years, Young Thug, and others.

John says of the project:

“The last thing I expected to do during lockdown was make an album. But, as the pandemic went on, one‐off projects kept cropping up. Some of the recording sessions had to be done remotely, via Zoom, which I’d obviously never done before. Some of the sessions were recorded under very stringent safety regulations: working with another artist, but separated by glass screens. But all the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse, stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for, stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory. And I realized there was something weirdly familiar about working like this. At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that. I’d come full circle: I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”

Check out the The Lockdown Sessions art and tracklist below.

Isaiah Rashad Asserts His Stardom In The Mellow ‘Chad’ Video

In the video for “Chad,” the latest single from Isaiah Rashad’s long-awaited comeback album The House Is Burning, the Chattanooga rapper asserts his stardom alongside fellow Chat-town native YGTUT. Employing the “video shoot at a gas station” trope that has become so popular over the past year, Rashad fills the video with cameos from his friends in the music business. The cameos include Aminé, who appears as a delivery man, Denzel Curry, who maintains the gas station sign, and Dominic Fike, who appears to be assisting Rashad’s TDE cohort Jay Rock in some shady business. In addition, many members of the TDE posse show up, including new signee Ray Vaughn and Reason.

The video arrived just in time to highlight TDE’s next generation of stars as Kendrick Lamar departs the label after over a decade of partnership. Rashad recently had to clear up a fan misconception that one of his recent tweets dissed Kendrick for leaving; after a subtweet to his ex was interpreted as a shot at Kendrick, Isaiah deleted the tweet and explained the context on The Breakfast Club. It appears there isn’t really any bad blood between them, and Top Dawg himself wished the Compton rapper well in his future endeavors.

Isaiah, meanwhile, has been hard at work promoting his new album, releasing videos for “Runnin,” “Wat U Sed,” “From The Garden,” and now, “Chad” in relatively rapid succession while preparing to head out on Lil Sunny’s Awesome Vacation tour this month.
