Hitmaka Teases Posthumous DMX Collaborations: “We’ll Hear Them Soon”

Hitmaka has had quite the career. He rose to fame under the rap name Yung Berg, before making a shift to producing in the 2010s. His rebranding has resulted in high-profile collaborations with the likes of Big Sean, Chris Brown, and Lil Wayne among countless others. One artist Hitmaka placed high on his collab list, however, was DMX. He idolized the New York icon, and was fortunate enough to produce sessions for X shortly before his death in 2021. Will we ever get to hear them? Well, according to Hitmaka, we’ll get them sooner rather than later.

Hitmaka shed light on the DMX situation during a recent interview with AllHipHop. He revealed that he’s in possession of multiple X songs, and is simply waiting for the right time to release them. “[It’s] out of respect for the family,” he explained. “I’m just waiting for the right opportunity. I don’t want any money from ‘em but whatever the proceeds [are] should go to [them].” Hitmaka assured fans that he’s been communicating with DMX’s estate to make sure these songs see the light of day. “So whenever they handled that then I’m sure his estate—we’ll hear them soon,” he added.

Hitmaka Worked With DMX Right Before His Death

Hitmaka and DMX go way back. The former actually signed with DMX when he was only 14 years old, and received a placement on the soundtrack to the DMX film Exit Wounds (2001). The two eventually parted ways, but reconnected shortly before X’s death. It’s during this brief window that they churned out new music together. “We actually have a couple records that we did in a full circle moment after I became Hitmaka,” he noted. “In the position I’m in, I was able to tap back in with X in Atlanta. He hit me randomly like, ‘Shorty! Shorty! I need a studio.” Hitmaka considered the night to be a full circle moment for both him and X.

Hitmaka has reached a point in his career where he wants to make business strides and not just hits. He proved that he could deliver the goods as a producer, but he told Flaunt that he wanted to move beyond that and challenge himself. “I aspire to be super out of here,” he announced. “I really want to run one of these companies and be at the head of it, to open up doors for people like me. I’m just getting started forreal.” Fans will be in for a treat with whatever Hitmaka does next, especially if it involves the rapper who gave him his big break.

Why Fans Think Taylor Swift Wrote A Diss Track About Kim Kardashian

Taylor Swift’s animosity towards Kanye West and his 2009 shenanigans at the VMAs extends to his former spouse, Kim Kardashian, who, according to fans, caught a stray on Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. Social media has been in a frenzy since Friday morning as they unpacked the lyrics and album titles. However, it’s two songs in particular that turned netizens on their head, “Cassandra” and “thanK you aIMee.” On both records, T Swizzy fires back at her detractors but considering that just about everyone and their moms love the Nashville singer-songwriter, it seemed that Kim Kardashian may have been the only rational target. Below, we’ve unpacked the fan theories surrounding the songs, as well as a bit of history behind Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift’s rift.

“thanK you aIMee”: Is Kim K A Schoolyard Bully?

Though Taylor Swift is on par with the best of ‘em when it comes to dishing subs, many believe that “thanK you aIMee” is as direct as it gets. The capitalized letters spell out KIM, so there’s that. However, the song itself focuses on a bully-like figure named Aimee, who seemingly terrorized her life. On the hook, Taylor sings, “All that time you were throwin’ punches, I was buildin’ somethin’ / And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel / Screamed ‘F*** you, Aimee’ to the night sky, as the blood was gushin’/“But I can’t forget the way you made me heal.

Many believe these particular lyrics allude to the infamous 2016 phone call that Kim Kardashian leaked online after Taylor Swift expressed her disproval of Kanye’s “Famous.” Though the call suggested that T-Swift gave Ye her blessing, she allegedly wasn’t aware that Ye referred to her as a “b*tch” on the song and claimed the leaked footage was edited.

Elsewhere on the song, Taylor admits to have “disguised” the true identity of Aimee on the song, singing on the bridge, “And maybe you’ve reframed it/And in your mind, you never beat my spirit black and blue/I don’t think you’ve changed much/And so I changed your name, and any real defining clues.” One could argue that these lyrics paint an image of Kim Kardashian attempting to shift the optics of the damage that she caused. As People points out, many fans also theorized that another bar related to Taylor’s mother Andrea Swift’s feelings toward Kim. “Everyone knows that my mother is a saintly woman/But she used to say she wished that you were dead,” she writes.

“Cassandra”: Taylor Swift Likens Herself To A Greek Goddess

As People points out, once again, the Brooklyn Museum states, “The god Apollo, enamored of [Cassandra], granted her the power of prophecy but, when she rejected him, sabotaged that power with a curse that no one would believe her predictions.” On “Cassandra,” Taylor Swift refers to this specific tale while calling back to that time when KimYe fans flooded the singer’s Instagram comments with snake emojis. “So, they killed Cassandra first ’cause she feared the worst/ And tried to tell the town/ So, they filled my cell with snakes, I regret to say/ Do you believe me now?” she sings.

Although straightforward, Taylor Swift previously opened up about this incident at length, namely when TIME named her Person Of The Year in 2023. Admitting it brought her to a dark place, she stated, “Make no mistake — my career was taken away from me,” Taylor said at the time. “You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar.”

Conclusion

At this point, it’s all speculation but considering that Taylor Swift has previously aimed at both Kanye West and Kim Kardashian on wax, it wouldn’t be a shock if “Cassandra” and “thanK you aIMee” were both targeted at the billionaire socialite. What do you think? Was Taylor Swift firing shots at Kim? Let us know in the comment section below.

Jermaine Dupri Blasts “Dangerous” AI Kendrick Lamar Diss Track

Jermaine Dupri has never been one to shy away from airing his opinions on new technology, and more specifically, artificial intelligence. That’s why it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise that the North Carolina-born record exec was quick to jump into the debate about the AI-generated Kendrick Lamar diss track that’s been making its rounds online this week. This track was created by a 23-year-old based in LA, Sy The Rapper, who has no connection to Kendrick, Drake, or anyone else involved in their feud.

While the track’s creator admits that he himself thought it would be unconvincing to listeners, he was quickly proven wrong. The song has gotten a ton of online attention, which prompted him to come forward to clarify that it’s fake. According to Dupri, however, it should have never been created in the first place.

Jermaine Dupri Calls Out 23-Year-Old For Fake Diss Track

Earlier this week, he took to Twitter/X to weigh in on the debacle, claiming that hip-hop is simply no place for antics like this. “This is the d*mbest most irresponsible thing I’ve seen in years,” Dupri replied to Complex‘s story about Sy, How a 23-Year-Old From LA Fooled The Internet With an AI Kendrick Lamar Diss Track. “Hip-hop is too dangerous and Hiphop has always gone against fake sh*t.” Many commenters fully back Dupri’s stance, and think AI-generated tracks using an artist’s likeness is a form of impersonation. Others disagree, and see the fake track as harmless, particularly considering the players involved.

“Yeah this is not cool it’s honestly scary,” one commenter says. “It’s a new era, adapt,” another urges. What do you think of the Kendrick Lamar diss track generated using artificial intelligence? What about Jermaine Dupri’s take on it? Do you agree that it could be dangerous, or is he overreacting? Kevin Gates Rants About Homeless Woman Not Eating Chick-Fil-A Sandwich: Watch

Earlier this week, Kevin Gates’ took to social media to air his frustrations with a homeless woman he ran into on the road. In a clip taken from his Instagram Story, the Louisiana-born performer explains that the woman was holding a sign asking for food, so he decided to order an extra sandwich at Chick-fil-A for her. Upon giving it to the woman, however, she didn’t eat it. Instead, she put it in her bag, leaving Gates annoyed.

“This kinda s**t piss me the f**k off,” he said of the incident. “I had got two sandwiches from Chick-fil-A., I gave this lady one of my sandwiches, right… I reach her this Chick-fil-A sandwich out the window, right. This muthaf**kin b***h done put my Chick-fil-A sandwich in her book sack and put the sign back up there.”

Kevin Gates Thinks Woman Should Have “Ate That B***h Right There”

While it’s certainly possible that the woman was just saving the sandwich for later, Gates didn’t stop there. He went on to suggest that she should have eaten it right in front of him, based on what her sign said. “Now, I thought you said you was hungry, you will work for food,” he explained, looking visibly irritated. “You shoulda ate that b***h right there, you so f**king hungry.”

While it’s unclear exactly what’s got Gates’ in such a bad mood, it’s possible that it could have something to do with all of the online clowning he’s been a victim of as of late. Earlier this month, for example, he debuted a bold Cuban link headband, which raised some eyebrows among social media users, who continue to question his sense of style. What do you think of Kevin Gates getting mad at a homeless woman for not eating the sandwich he gave her? Does he have a right to be upset, or is he just overreacting? Rowdy Rebel & Fetty Luciano “Splash Brothers 2” Review

Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano are two Brooklyn MCs from the GS9 imprint. Their latest collaboration, Splash Brothers 2, just released on April 19, following the first Splash Brothers release from 2023. On Splash Brothers 2, Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano flex their street ties and luxury lifestyles over drill beats for 11 tracks which span 25 minutes of run-time. Let’s dive into the body of Splash Brothers 2, and review the material therein.

The Project Begins With A Rocky Start

Splash Brothers 2 opens with the track “2024.” This song has a loud, abrasive vibe showcasing Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano’s drill influences, though the mixing on this record leaves a lot to be desired. Rowdy sounds like Bizarre from D12 drowning in reverb, while a vocal feature from Lil Tjay comes and goes in the blink of an eye. This track doesn’t effectively set the tone for some of the highlights to come and could have easily ended up on the cutting room floor.

“Pistons” is another song that does very little to establish Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano’s stage presence, as JB completely steals the show with his guest verse. Sonically, the instrumental sounds so similar to Ice Spice’s “Deli” that you could make a sound argument that Spice deserves a writing credit. Later in the tracklist, “Can’t Talk Hot” features a nearly identical instrumental as well, without the powerful guest vocals of JB. As a result, “Can’t Talk Hot” sounds like a poorly conceived B-side of “Pistons,” which already sounds like a B-side of “Deli.” While Splash Brothers 2 does go on to reach some major highlights, opening with this one-two combo of mediocre songs was certainly a bad move from Rowdy and Fetty.

As stated, JB has the most compelling verse on “Pistons” by a country mile. This is not an isolated incident on Splash Brothers 2 as Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano are outshined by their guests numerous times. The track “Shake” is one of many examples of this phenomenon, with Rowdy and Fetty both completely drowning their vocals in autotune effects that make them sound like they just discovered the technology for the first time. The vocal mixing completely drowns out Rowdy to the point of near incoherence while Fetty’s interpolation of “I Don’t Want To Wait” by Paula Cole sounds embarrassing and unintentionally hilarious. D Sturdy completely sweeps them both on the back end of this track, with one of the hardest guest features on the album.

Things aren’t all bad for Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano. The pair hold their own against some other banging features elsewhere on the record. “Pissing Me Off” sees Fivio Foreign stealing the show, though both of the main Splash Brothers artists manage to keep up with some of their best lyrical showings on the album. “Pissing Me Off” is track 3 on Splash Brothers 2, but really sounds like it would have made a better opener.

Then there are tracks like “Spin First” and “My Block,” which see guest vocalists Curly and Chubbs blending in perfectly with Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano respectively. The former is a thumping club shaker that sounds like it could soundtrack a fight scene in a bodega in an episode of Mr. & Mrs Smith, while the latter sees Rowdy and Fetty trading bars back and forth with Chubbs, who compares and contrasts the street life of Chicago with the streets of Brooklyn.

The Album Has Some High Highs

“My Block” is probably the best cut on Splash Brothers 2, but it’s not the only highlight. “Twin Story Pt2” shows Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano rapping with no assistance, and illustrates their chemistry better than any other song on the project. The track is a direct sequel to track 6 off the first Splash Brothers album from last year and gets straight to the point as to why these two teamed to make an album together in the first place. Subsequent tracks such as “Pop Out (Yeah Yeah)” and “Good Night” also bring the heat, with the former serving as a street anthem loaded with references to smoking opps and luxury whips. “Good Night” brings some sonic diversity to the production which is severely lacking on most of the album, and showcases some versatile flows from Fetty Luciano especially.

At the end of the day, Splash Brothers 2 is more of the same from this crew. If you’re a fan of Rowdy Rebel and Fetty Luciano’s previous work, you’ll likely find 3 or 4 new tracks here to add to your playlist. If you’re a die-hard hater of the GS9 crew, this album will definitely not do much to change your mind. Overall, the team has created a solid project, albeit with a few duds thrown into the mix.

Kendrick Lamar May Be Saving His Drake Response For A New Album In May

Last month, Drake sparked the biggest rap beef of the year, or at least the biggest since Megan The Stallion and Nicki Minaj went head-to-head in January. He called out both Drake and J. Cole on the Future & Metro Boomin song “Like That” and things have moved VERY quickly since then. Cole released a diss track of his own only to quickly apologize and delete it. Drake dropped a response that just hit streaming services earlier today. And now fans are anticipating Kendrick’s next move.

Rory & Mal‘s podcast has been discussing the beef as it unfolds and occasionally sharing some insight. During a recent episode Mal claimed that a “little bird” passed some information along to him. The news he shared is pretty big, claiming that the reason Kendrick hasn’t released a response yet is that he’s saving it for a new album coming later this year. In fact, he pretty confidently declared that the project was coming in May, far sooner than even some of the most optimistic Kendrick fans imagined. He took a full 5 years break between DAMN and Mr Morale & The Big-Steppers, which dropped less than two years ago. Check out the claims Mal makes in the clip below,

Kendrick Lamar May Drop A New Album Next Month

Another podcast has been talking about the Drake and Kendrick beef quite a bit, Joe Budden’s. He’s been calling together emergency podcast episodes to cover nearly every development in the rap drama so far. In his most recent episode, some more insight was shared about a potential Kendrick response. One of his co-hosts compared Kendrick’s supposed response to “Hit Em Up” by 2pac. It’s unclear if the two reports contradict each other and only time will tell which is more accurate.

What do you think of Mal sharing the rumor that Kendrick Lamar could be dropping a new album next month? If he is, do you think saving a Drake response until then is the right move? Let us know in the comment section below.
